• In the UK, government laws have been introduced
which give rights to all.
• E.g. The Race Relations Act in 1968 gave rights with
respect to employment, housing, commercial and
other services to all races.
• Sporting bodies have helped too. E.g. FIFA’s
#saynotoracism campaign. This has been promoted
worldwide through football matches.
7. How has the spread of global culture created
new opportunities for disadvantaged groups?
• A recent shift in attitudes towards disabled people
has taken place and global media has helped to
turn the Paralympic games into one of the worlds
biggest sporting events by celebrating the physical
achievements of elate athletes with disabilities.
• Paralympics started as an event for war veterans in
1948.
• In 1988 for the first time the Paralympics were help
immediately after the Olympics.
