dominant banking sector. Supervisory capacity needs to be expanded in line with new regulations
and to keep up with the growth and increasing sophistication of financial institutions. The further
expansion of the Islamic sector, the development of housing finance, and the deepening of securities
markets are important for the future growth of the financial system. The banking and insurance
sectors will eventually undergo consolidation .The government has used its modest oil revenues to
build an advanced infrastructure in transportation and telecommunications. Bahrain is a regional
financial and business centre. Tourism, especially from the region, has proved another significant
source of income. Bahrain has benefited from the oil boom since 2001, with economic growth of
5.5%. It has succeeded in attracting investment from other Persian Gulf states partly because it used
the revenues of the 1970s–early 80s boom to invest in infrastructure development and other projects
to improve the standard of living; health, education, housing, electricity, water, and roads all
received attention. The success of ventures such as the Bahrain Grand Prix has raised the Kingdom
's international profile, and combined with the boom in Islamic banking, has encouraged major
airlines to resume services to the country, with Lufthansa announcing on 14 March 2006 that it
would schedule three flights a week to Manama from Frankfurt. As part of its efforts to build a

Dubai: The Land of Miracles.
There are many incredible cities around the world. Some of which are famous for its history, while
other cities are famous for its malls and entertainment attractions. However, the city of Dubai is one
of the United Arab of Emirates cities, and it is known for many different aspects. Dubai is the
biggest economic city in the golf region for the past decade and it is indeed a city of contrast. In
other words, the city combines the old fashion with new fashion in a unique way that makes it
attractively special. The old and the new are being juxtaposed at almost every street corner.
Furthermore, Arabic tradition contrasted with the surge of (mainly Western) tourism, Arabic markets
competing for space with pristine shopping malls. Therefore, this paper will concentrates on the
events that made Dubai a global city as well as a business and financial center. It is also going to
discuses why and how it became a tourist destination for many people around the world.
Geographic and Economic Information:
The city of Dubai is known as one of the wealthiest cities among other Middle Eastern cities
although it is the smallest in term of area; however, Dubai has several unique things that feature the
city to be better than other cities. Dubai has a magnificent location, the ability to expand to twice its
size, and the major port in the Middle East area.

The Economic Development Of The Middle East
This economic modernization in the Middle East, could only be a short term success which does not
guarantee the successful and stable economic development of oil rich states and the region as a
whole in the long term. The Middle East, despite its vast reserves of oil, is still considered a
developing region due to the high reliance on oil revenues and rather weak production sector of the
economy as well as due to some political factors such as lack of democracy, corruption, reluctance
to the reforms and other issues. There are various reasons as to why the Middle East is still
considered a developing region despite its oil wealth. Natural resource revenues have also been
linked to slow economic growth rates, inequality, and poverty. One culprit may be "Dutch disease,"
which was discussed earlier. Other factors may include the volatility associated with commodity
prices, which can have especially negative impacts on weak–state economies; and the
underdevelopment of agricultural and manufacturing sectors during boom periods in resource–based
economies. And even when oil abundance produces high growth, it often benefits only a few corrupt
elites rather than translating into higher living standards for most of the population. Corruption is
one of the economic deficiencies which can weaken economic growth and development; thus it is
considered as an important impediment to economic growth and political stability, particularly in
developing countries. The dependence on a

Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking. Kafala System in...
Summary
Since the introduction of Kafala system, also known as sponsorship system, in the GCC (Gulf
Cooperation Council) along with Lebanon and Jordan in Mashriq region, some serious human rights
violations have aroused. Kafala system is a sponsorship system designed to regulate and employ
migrant workers in countries compromising of GCC states (Qatar, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, United
Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Bahrain, Kuwait, and Sultanate of Oman), Jordan, and Lebanon.
Under the sponsorship system, a contract is signed between worker and recruitment agency for a
minimum of 2 years, in which sponsor assumes full legal and economic responsibility of the
migrant, including visa status, residence, living conditions, wages, and health ... Show more content

However, as Qatar started its colossal preparation and constructions for FIFA World Cup 2022,
massive human rights violations were recorder by Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International,
sparkling heavy criticism and condemnation throughout the world.
In this document I will identify human rights violations in GCC countries and Lebanon under the
Kafala system and try to explore how thousands of employers abuse millions of migrant workers. I
will also document the problems of "exit visa" in Saudi Arabia and Qatar, scarce living conditions
and health problems of migrant workers, violence against migrant domestic workers in Lebanon,
violation of freedom in Saudi Arabia, and violation of basic labor rights in Qatar during the
preparation of FIFA World Cup 2022. I will conclude the report by identifying the violations under
Intentional Law and giving recommendations to countries which use Kafala system.
Background
Historically, the Kafala system was never intended to be the main source of exploitation and abuse
of migrants. Khan and Harroff–Tavel claim in their article that, "The sponsorship system is a time–
honored tradition of the Bedouin principle of hospitality, which sets obligations in the treatment and
protection of foreign guests" (Khan & Harrof–Tavel, 2011, p. 294). However, over some period of
time, its purpose and practice has dramatically changed. The necessity of Kafala system was
increased after the discovery of

The Positive Economic Impact Of Tourism In The World...
The World Tourism Organization (WTO) approximated that 903 million tourists spent 625 million
US dollar in 2007 (Bogari, Crowther & Marr, 2013). They also supported a global system with
about 100 million employees in experience industries and modern leisure. International tourism
formed a vital industry globally and tourism activities generated approximately US $ 3.6 trillion in
2000 (Sadi & Henderson, 2015). Increase in expansion rates heightened the international arrival
rates by a mean of 4.3% between 1996 and 2006 (Burns, 2016). Mainly, developing nations form the
forefront contributors of such upward trend. That was prompted by positive economic impacts,
which included income, foreign exchange, and internal investments. Tourism was also a catalyst for
the national growth and diversification means because of some of its disadvantages as a driver for
economic development. According to Henderson (2013), it was responsible for 19% of exports in
the developing world and at least 40% of the gross domestic product. Besides, Rimmawi and
Ibrahim (2015) stated that more than 65% of jobs in developing nations were associated with
tourism. Conversely, Ahmed (2012) asserted that tourism was unevenly distributed globally, but
Europe and the U.S were the key dominants as both generators and contributors to the industry.
Middle recorded tourist arrival of 34.1 million in 2012, and that was approximately 3.4% of the
world total. In many societies within the Middle East, Western

My Timbuktu
It is difficult to overstate the importance of culture. Culture is one of the building blocks of life. It
provides us with vital parts of of everyday life, like clothing and cuisine. It also serves as a pointer
for larger–scale items, such as our heritage, customs, and traditions. Unfortunately as time has
passed, certain cultures have faded away. They have been superseded by other cultures, and while
the spreading of cultures can be beneficial, it is important to not neglect one's own culture. This
process has seen an increased frequency in recent years, due in part to the expanding globalization
in our current world. Personally, culture is one of the main cornerstones of my life. This is partly due
to its importance back home. My experiences would be different from the rest of the class, due to
the fact I am in the minority of being a foreigner in the United States. Living in Boston showed me
the cultural differences in the world, and I was able to use that experience to be able to distinguish

This article explores the history of Mali, focusing on music and its effect on history. Music is a key
aspect of culture. It is a medium for expression, and a strong distinguisher for many cultures. It often
bridges cultural gaps, and when paired with dancing, is one of the most expressive mediums in the
world. Mali has a complicated history with music. The medium was banned by Islamist rebels, a
sort of oppression that can be very detrimental to the country's culture. While Bahrain does not share
the exact feelings, similar sentiments are shared across the region. The entire country of Saudi
Arabia does not have movie theaters, which leads to a flooding of Saudis in Bahrain during the

The war lasted six months, three weeks and five days. However, Operation Desert Storm officially
ended on 30 November 1995. The war took place in Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Israel. The
initial conflict was to expel Iraqi troops from Kuwait. This conflict was between Iraq and a Coalition

November 2015 The new borders created after World War 1created long lasting conflicts that
continue to cause strife even today. At the end of WW1 the French and the British sat down to
recreate the borders for the Middle East because they thought the local population would benefit
from European rule. Prior to WW1 the region was based on tribal borders as represented by the
following map.
After WW1 Mark Sykes, representing the British government, and Francois Georges–Picot, from
the French government, agreed upon new borders they had created in 1916; the problem for the
locals were that they were straight ones. At a meeting, Mark Sykes pointed to a map and told the
prime minister: "I should like to draw a line from the "e" in Acre to the last "k" in Kirkuk." And that
was that the countries agreed on an arbitrary line pulled from thin air. The key tenets of the
agreement they had negotiated in relative haste amidst the turmoil of the World War One continue to
influence the region to this day. But while Sykes–Picot 's straight lines were proved helpful to
Britain and France in the first half of the twentieth century, their impact on the region 's peoples was
quite different. The map that the two men drew divided the land that had been under Ottoman rule
since the early 16th Century into new countries without any regard to local tribal rulers; and
relegated these political

The biggest war that any country can engage in is that of development. Although it is a long and
costly war, the number of soldiers increases instead of decreasing. So let's take part in the war of
development together, and let our victims be poverty, ignorance, and backwardness. – Sheik
Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai1 Dubailand, designed to be the
world's largest amusement park, was rising out of a stretch of desert near Arabian Gulf. As
envisioned, the complex would cover three times the surface of Manhattan, or 45,900 acres, and

hailed from Asia, 15% came from other Arab countries, and 5% were from Europe. All key positions
in the Dubai government however were occupied by members of a ruling family–their authority

Comparison of Crime Statistics
Crime statistics endeavour to provide statistical measures of crime in societies. They provide a point
of analysis and comparison, allow countries to form long–term patterns and trends and can help to
develop and reform criminal justice policies as well as being more meaningful than raw numbers.

which surround crime statistics such as biases, agendas and general influences like education and
religion; this essay will be focused around analysing the statistical factors and wider influences
which can allow a country to have low or high crime rates.

Wider Influences:
Bahrain is a country which operates on all levels in relation to the teachings of the Qur'an. This
makes up the fabric of life for the Bahraini people, the influence of the Islamic religion can be seen
in the economic, political and social pathways of life within the culture of the country. In Bahrain,
religion is the most important structure. The Islamic religion opposes wrongdoing in all its forms
and that any wrongdoing can lead to the downfall of society. The teachings of the Prophet attempt to
get rid of all forms of crime before it happens by influencing the individuals who follow the
religion. Acts against the law therefore is not only a crime against society in the eyes of Bahraini
people it is also a violation of the principles of God. In Bahrain there are even 'moral police officers'
who regulate the dress and public behaviour of citizens (Helal, 1991). As the Qur'an provides the
basis for society, it also provides the base for which laws are made. All laws however have major
influence from the Western cultures, apart from marriage, divorce and succession which all fall
under the Shari'ah. (Souryal, 1988)Therefore religion is a major influence

So for any kind of comparison of crime rates to work at all, it is crucial that the definitions of crimes
and the categories they are placed in are similar. The next issue with definitions is that even the
different organizations that compile crime statistics differ within their own definitions. INTERPOL
for example defines murder as: Any act performed with the purpose of taking human life, excluding
abortion but including infanticide (and including attempts).(Kalish, 1988)
While the World Health Organization (WHO) does not distinguish between intentional or
unintentional homicides but does not include attempts under this organization attempts fall under a
separate legal distinction(Kalish, 1988). And again, the United Nations have a different definition
for homicide: Death purposely inflicted by another person, including infanticide. (Kalish, 1988)
Due to major issues with the above topics across all countries, due to definitional and categorical
differences, crime statistics can differ significantly.
In Bahrain, crimes against the individual are ranked in relation to the seriousness of the offence,
murder, attempted murder, murder by error, assault, threatening and others. In the United States,
offences are not classed separately, but into broad categories which are homicides, robberies and
assaults. Bahrain does not report rape as a single category and in response, no reports of rape have

Openness And Foreign Direct Investment
Openness to foreign direct investment. According to The World Bank (n.d.), "Foreign direct
investment is a category of cross–border investment associated with a resident in one economy
having control or a significant degree of influence on the management of an enterprise that is
resident in another economy." In 2014, the flows of FDI into Qatar reached more than USD 1,040
million See Fig. 1 ("Qatar Foreign Investment," 2016). Qatar is exceptionally open to FDI, as its
objective is to become a world–class leader in terms of its business environment for foreign direct

FDI laws and regulations. Qatar's investment–stimulating policies are proceeding on a steady basis,
in an effort to protect Qatari–owned companies from significant competition. The chief legislation
governing foreign investment in Qatar is Investment Law No. 13/2000. This law permits foreign
investors to hold 49% of the capital while a Qatari partner holds at least 51%. However, Investment
Law No. 13/2000 provides leeway for 100% ownership with special government approval. This
leeway is limited to investments in certain sectors, including: "agriculture, industry, health,
education, tourism, development and exploitation of natural resources, energy, mining, sports and
entertainment services; and banking and finance" ("Investment Climate," 2015). Significantly, the
investment must contribute to the long–term development of Qatar's human resources and
technology.
In addition to the previously stated Investment Law No. 13/2000, another law which governs FDI is
Law No. 23/2006. This piece of legislature provides foreigners the right of land use over real estate,

Globalization And The Middle East
Introduction
There are many significant change in the world economy occurred, marked by globalization each
country has different speed of development under different political and cultural background.
During this period, Such as the United States of America 's economic status from the rapid
development to the decline, then move to the current stable trend. Brazil, Russia, India, China,
which named 'BRCIS' those developing countries' economic performances are very catch the
attention in recent years. The decline and rise of these countries ' commercial economy are closely
related to their political culture. Therefore, it attracted the attention of scholars and research circles.
Through reading the case: "Globalization and the Middle East" in John S. Hill's book, International
Business: Managing globalization, PP.124 to 132. Have had a further understanding of the political
and religious culture of the Middle East countries, and have had a research for the following
questions also written down my own opinions.
Q1: What are the major contrasts between the political and cultural institutions of the Middle East
and those of the Western world? Which do you think is the most important? Why?
Culture is not only a reflection of current social phenomena, but also is a long period of
accumulation and the formation of the creation and development of the historical heritage, such as
religions, beliefs, lifestyles, values, and so on. Therefore, different cultural backgrounds will

The Arab Spring : Anti Government Protests
The "Arab Spring," was a chain of violent and nonviolent anti–government protests that spread in
the Arab world in 2011. This movement was widely popular and appealing to the people
participating in these protests. The Arab Spring symbolized patriotism and giving citizens a chance
to remove unjust, corrupt leaders, social and economic unrest, and demand more rights. It was a
universal message that was put forth through a series of major international events. Many had
positive outcomes which made the Arab Spring much more impactful. The movement began in
Tunisia where the suicide of a local vendor unleashed the widespread injustices of the public and
eventually led to the downfall of the corrupt and cruel policies of the president. Almost immediately,
the protests began to spread to other Arab nations. Egypt and Libya also voted for new leaders due
to similar existing corruptness and injustice of its leaders. Through the use of social media and many
rallies being gathered online through Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, Arab citizens attacked the
injustices in their countries. Countries like Bahrain and Syria mostly protested the unfair treatment
of the Shiite sect because of a harsh Sunni government ruling. They demanded equal rights and took
to the streets and online for these rights (Al–Rawi, 2014). With the lack of a political solution, the
crisis still continues, and in Syria, a civil war broke out and the brutality and injustice continues.

The Plummeting Oil Prices: Comparison of Policy Between Kuwait & the UAE
Introduction
The Gulf Cooperation Council states (GCC) are heavily dependent on oil to generate economic
growth. Oil and natural gas are the two main sources of capital inflow that enters into these
countries. GCC countries' dependency creates economies that are sensitive to any decline in oil
prices. After four years of relatively stable oil prices of around $105 per barrel (bbl), a sharp and
notable decline occurred in June 2014. In the face of the plummeting oil prices, most GCC countries
have cut their spendings to cope with the significant reductions in their revenues.
Given than oil prices fell by 29% in 2015 and 44% in 2014, the GCC countries are facing economic
crisis that could translate into economic deficits for some. Economists suggested that Bahrain and
Oman are the two GCC states that are most severely affected by the drop in oil prices, while Kuwait,
Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar are in good standing. The reasoning behind it, is
that Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar, are considered as major oil
producers. Whereas, Oman and Bahrain do not contribute as much to the production of oil and
natural gas. Major oil producers among the GCC are well–equipped to deal with such economic
upheavals, as they own financial wealth in the form of foreign exchange reserves, as well as in
sovereign wealth funds. Regardless of the economic standing of some

These Islamic Fundamentalist groups continue to rise and gain power everyday.
Islamic Fundamentalism is extremely common in the Middle East. The Middle East is a pretty big
region that is located where Asia, Africa and Europe meet. There are many different ethnicities in
the Middle East but the most dominate is Muslim. This region is mostly poor and poverty stricken,
but there are a few countries that are technologically advance and wealthy. These few countries are
wealthy for their abundance of oil to export to nations such as the U.S. Also a few countries like
Qatar are extremely wealthy for their tourism. Their technological cities makes people visit their
wonderful sites. Religion tends to be a major problem in the Middle East. The different religions
such as Judaism, Christianity and Islam fight over who should have control of the land. The most
popular religion in the Middle East is Islam.
One cause of Islamic Fundamentalism is religion. Religion is extremely complicated in the Middle

Islam. Muslims believe in one holy book called the Qur'an, but groups of people want to restore

The UAE government are creating substantial opportunities for foreigners to invest and doing
business in the UAE. Tourism creates jobs in the tertiary sector, but also on the secondary and
primary sectors of the industry as well. This creates the multiplier effect, which proves how the
money spent by tourists circulates in the country's economy, from one hand to the other, therefore
tourism directly helps the development of the hospitality industry but also indirectly in other sectors
of the economy. For instance, a number of tourists spend money in the hotel, the hotel needs to buy
linen from a supplier, the supplier needs to buy raw material from his supplier, etc.

Qatar Airways and Emirates Airline have a clear vision of extending their network to cover the
globe and have placed large orders from both Boeing and Airbus. The most popular plane ordered
by the region is Airbus's A330 representing 13% of total orders placed from 1980 to 2005. This is
closely followed by Boeing's 737 with 11% of the total. (zawya.com 2006) Besides the conventional
H&S carriers, low–cost carriers (LCC) were recently introduced in the region. In 2003, Air Arabia
was established in the U.A.E. introducing the first LCC in the region. LCCs are airline companies
typically of one service class dedicated to providing the best service at the lowest price possible.
Also known as the no–frills airlines, these carriers mainly serve short–haul routes and have high
aircraft utilization rates. Currently there are two additional airlines within this class, Al Jazeera from
Kuwait and the newly established Sama Airlines from Saudi Arabia. However, more of such airlines
are expected to appear as regional traffic increases.

Speech On Indian Diaspora
The Indian Diaspora today constitutes an important, to some extent unique, force in world culture. It
is estimated to be the second largest in the world. Colonialism generated economic compulsions in
the 19th century which paved the way for the people of India to migrate to overseas. This is a unique
diverse pattern compared to any other Diaspora. Indians spread initially to the countries of Africa,
Southeast Asia, Fiji and the Caribbean and later to the Middle East, the U.S, Malaysia, and South
Africa. After the British abolished slavery, enormous demand for cheap labour arose in 1833–1834.
It was succeeded in the later 20th century, by a steady outflow of some of the best professionals of
India to the already developed countries such as the US, Canada and Australia. Some of India's
skilled and semi–skilled labour moved to West Asia and the Gulf in the 1970s in the wake of oil
boom. Today, the Indian Diaspora ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

which has been affected vastly by the impact of global financial crisis, terrorist attacks, globalisation
of the hospitality and tourism industry, the uncertainty surrounding the sovereign dept of some
countries in EU, development of emerging markets, the rapid dissemination of global lifestyles and
other economic and political uncertainties in the past few years. Fairmont is also affected by
technological innovation as well as other broad macro environmental trends.

Thus they face more complex and changing environments where they operate and compete than
other industries. In order to survive and prosper, the essential is to take account of, and adapt to, fast
changing environmental conditions. To see and take advantage of marketing opportunities while at
the same time anticipating any threats to their business. By indentifying environmental trends soon
enough, management should be able, at least in part, to anticipate where such trends are leading and
what future conditions are likely to result from such changes. (Lancaster et al. 2002, Palmer 2008).
Explain how changes in the socio–cultural environment affect marketing decisions
The UK population will rebalance by 2015 – families will be the most prevalent group, and the
retired will have increased in number fastest.
One–person households are set to increase fastest into 2015, following the trend witnessed into
2010.

Bahrain : Culture, Culture And Culture Of Bahrain
Bahrain Culture makes a country or set of people who they are; culture defines a country. According
to Merriam–Webster, the definition of culture is, "the customary beliefs, social forms, and material
traits of a racial, religious, or social group" (Merriam–Webster, 2016). Bahrain is no different when
it comes to the definition of culture. Bahrain has a long history of rulers and protectorates dating as
far back as the 7th century. Throughout ruling by the Portuguese and Persians, it has remained an
Arab nation since the 7th century. In 1783, the Al Khalifah family began to rule, continuing to this
day (Crystal, Smith, 2017). From 1820 until 1971, the country remained a protectorate of Great
Britain, meaning Great Britain remained responsible for the defense of the country while helping it
maintain relations with other world powers (Crystal, Smith, 2017). In 1971, the United Kingdom
and Bahrain signed a treaty of friendship, effectively terminating status as a British protectorate and
allowing Bahrain to claim independence. At this time, Bahrain became a member of the United
Nations and Arab League. The need for protection stemmed from the location of Bahrain, being
easily accessible by water, the trade route kept the country alive and open to outside influences.
Bahrain, meaning Two Seas in Arabic, is just that, an island in the Persian Gulf surrounded by seas.
The location of the country results in very arid, somewhat pleasant winters, but

The United States And The Arab Countries Essay
of either the capitalist block, led by USA or the Socialist block led by the former USSR. In that
global division of Africa and Arab Countries, both Ethiopia and the Gulf Arab Countries was strong
adherent with the capitalist block. Both enjoyed American and West European political patronage
and protection. Thus imperial Ethiopia and the Gulf Arab Countries were partners against the spread
of socialist and radical political ideas in this part of the world (Hoynes 1993).
Surprisingly, their strong and pro–capitalist political alliance did not led to significant involvement
of the rich Gulf Arab Countries in Ethiopian economic development during the rule of Emperor
Haile Sillassie. We are not very sure about the rate of involvement Gulf Arab countries in other
African Countries during the same period. But it is still very curious to know the reasons for
complete absence of GCC Arab Countries investment in the Imperial Ethiopia.
One may assume that the political crisis that erupted after formal abolition of the federal status of
Eritrea in 1962 ignited resentment and anger in the Arab World including the Gulf Arab Countries
(Bahru, 1991). The Eritrean Federal status, prescribed by the UN General Assembly provided that
Arabic would be the second official language Muslims of Eritrea would enjoy full fleshed equality
in both cultural and political terms. Thus the abolition of the Federal status could evoke anger and
frustration in Eritrea and the neighboring Muslim Arab World.

Dominant Banking Sector

  • 1. Dominant Banking Sector dominant banking sector. Supervisory capacity needs to be expanded in line with new regulations and to keep up with the growth and increasing sophistication of financial institutions. The further expansion of the Islamic sector, the development of housing finance, and the deepening of securities markets are important for the future growth of the financial system. The banking and insurance sectors will eventually undergo consolidation .The government has used its modest oil revenues to build an advanced infrastructure in transportation and telecommunications. Bahrain is a regional financial and business centre. Tourism, especially from the region, has proved another significant source of income. Bahrain has benefited from the oil boom since 2001, with economic growth of 5.5%. It has succeeded in attracting investment from other Persian Gulf states partly because it used the revenues of the 1970s–early 80s boom to invest in infrastructure development and other projects to improve the standard of living; health, education, housing, electricity, water, and roads all received attention. The success of ventures such as the Bahrain Grand Prix has raised the Kingdom 's international profile, and combined with the boom in Islamic banking, has encouraged major airlines to resume services to the country, with Lufthansa announcing on 14 March 2006 that it would schedule three flights a week to Manama from Frankfurt. • 3. Dubai : The Land Of Miracles Dubai: The Land of Miracles. Abdullah Alhajji English 104 Professor McNett 3 April 2015 Dubai: The Land of Miracles. There are many incredible cities around the world. Some of which are famous for its history, while other cities are famous for its malls and entertainment attractions. However, the city of Dubai is one of the United Arab of Emirates cities, and it is known for many different aspects. Dubai is the biggest economic city in the golf region for the past decade and it is indeed a city of contrast. In other words, the city combines the old fashion with new fashion in a unique way that makes it attractively special. The old and the new are being juxtaposed at almost every street corner. Furthermore, Arabic tradition contrasted with the surge of (mainly Western) tourism, Arabic markets competing for space with pristine shopping malls. Therefore, this paper will concentrates on the events that made Dubai a global city as well as a business and financial center. It is also going to discuses why and how it became a tourist destination for many people around the world. Geographic and Economic Information: The city of Dubai is known as one of the wealthiest cities among other Middle Eastern cities although it is the smallest in term of area; however, Dubai has several unique things that feature the city to be better than other cities. Dubai has a magnificent location, the ability to expand to twice its size, and the major port in the Middle East area. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Economic Development Of The Middle East This economic modernization in the Middle East, could only be a short term success which does not guarantee the successful and stable economic development of oil rich states and the region as a whole in the long term. The Middle East, despite its vast reserves of oil, is still considered a developing region due to the high reliance on oil revenues and rather weak production sector of the economy as well as due to some political factors such as lack of democracy, corruption, reluctance to the reforms and other issues. There are various reasons as to why the Middle East is still considered a developing region despite its oil wealth. Natural resource revenues have also been linked to slow economic growth rates, inequality, and poverty. One culprit may be "Dutch disease," which was discussed earlier. Other factors may include the volatility associated with commodity prices, which can have especially negative impacts on weak–state economies; and the underdevelopment of agricultural and manufacturing sectors during boom periods in resource–based economies. And even when oil abundance produces high growth, it often benefits only a few corrupt elites rather than translating into higher living standards for most of the population. Corruption is one of the economic deficiencies which can weaken economic growth and development; thus it is considered as an important impediment to economic growth and political stability, particularly in developing countries. However, as Qatar started its colossal preparation and constructions for FIFA World Cup 2022, massive human rights violations were recorder by Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, sparkling heavy criticism and condemnation throughout the world. In this document I will identify human rights violations in GCC countries and Lebanon under the Kafala system and try to explore how thousands of employers abuse millions of migrant workers. I will also document the problems of "exit visa" in Saudi Arabia and Qatar, scarce living conditions and health problems of migrant workers, violence against migrant domestic workers in Lebanon, violation of freedom in Saudi Arabia, and violation of basic labor rights in Qatar during the preparation of FIFA World Cup 2022. I will conclude the report by identifying the violations under Intentional Law and giving recommendations to countries which use Kafala system. Background Historically, the Kafala system was never intended to be the main source of exploitation and abuse of migrants. Khan and Harroff–Tavel claim in their article that, "The sponsorship system is a time– honored tradition of the Bedouin principle of hospitality, which sets obligations in the treatment and protection of foreign guests" (Khan & Harrof–Tavel, 2011, p. 294). It provides us with vital parts of of everyday life, like clothing and cuisine. It also serves as a pointer for larger–scale items, such as our heritage, customs, and traditions. Unfortunately as time has passed, certain cultures have faded away. They have been superseded by other cultures, and while the spreading of cultures can be beneficial, it is important to not neglect one's own culture. This process has seen an increased frequency in recent years, due in part to the expanding globalization in our current world. Personally, culture is one of the main cornerstones of my life. This is partly due to its importance back home. My experiences would be different from the rest of the class, due to the fact I am in the minority of being a foreigner in the United States. • 22. Understanding The Middle East 9 Understanding The Middle East Understanding the Middle East Josh A. Snyder S.N.H.U. November 2015 The new borders created after World War 1created long lasting conflicts that continue to cause strife even today. At the end of WW1 the French and the British sat down to recreate the borders for the Middle East because they thought the local population would benefit from European rule. Prior to WW1 the region was based on tribal borders as represented by the following map. After WW1 Mark Sykes, representing the British government, and Francois Georges–Picot, from the French government, agreed upon new borders they had created in 1916; the problem for the locals were that they were straight ones. At a meeting, Mark Sykes pointed to a map and told the prime minister: "I should like to draw a line from the "e" in Acre to the last "k" in Kirkuk." And that was that the countries agreed on an arbitrary line pulled from thin air. The key tenets of the agreement they had negotiated in relative haste amidst the turmoil of the World War One continue to influence the region to this day. But while Sykes–Picot 's straight lines were proved helpful to Britain and France in the first half of the twentieth century, their impact on the region 's peoples was quite different. The map that the two men drew divided the land that had been under Ottoman rule since the early 16th Century into new countries without any regard to local tribal rulers; and relegated these political ... This makes up the fabric of life for the Bahraini people, the influence of the Islamic religion can be seen in the economic, political and social pathways of life within the culture of the country. In Bahrain, religion is the most important structure. The Islamic religion opposes wrongdoing in all its forms and that any wrongdoing can lead to the downfall of society. The teachings of the Prophet attempt to get rid of all forms of crime before it happens by influencing the individuals who follow the religion. Acts against the law therefore is not only a crime against society in the eyes of Bahraini people it is also a violation of the principles of God. In Bahrain there are even 'moral police officers' who regulate the dress and public behaviour of citizens (Helal, 1991). As the Qur'an provides the basis for society, it also provides the base for which laws are made. So for any kind of comparison of crime rates to work at all, it is crucial that the definitions of crimes and the categories they are placed in are similar. INTERPOL for example defines murder as: Any act performed with the purpose of taking human life, excluding abortion but including infanticide (and including attempts).(Kalish, 1988) While the World Health Organization (WHO) does not distinguish between intentional or unintentional homicides but does not include attempts under this organization attempts fall under a separate legal distinction(Kalish, 1988). And again, the United Nations have a different definition for homicide: Death purposely inflicted by another person, including infanticide. (Kalish, 1988) Due to major issues with the above topics across all countries, due to definitional and categorical differences, crime statistics can differ significantly. In Bahrain, crimes against the individual are ranked in relation to the seriousness of the offence, murder, attempted murder, murder by error, assault, threatening and others. In the United States, offences are not classed separately, but into broad categories which are homicides, robberies and assaults. The movement began in Tunisia where the suicide of a local vendor unleashed the widespread injustices of the public and eventually led to the downfall of the corrupt and cruel policies of the president. Almost immediately, the protests began to spread to other Arab nations. Egypt and Libya also voted for new leaders due to similar existing corruptness and injustice of its leaders. Through the use of social media and many rallies being gathered online through Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, Arab citizens attacked the injustices in their countries. Countries like Bahrain and Syria mostly protested the unfair treatment of the Shiite sect because of a harsh Sunni government ruling. They demanded equal rights and took to the streets and online for these rights (Al–Rawi, 2014). With the lack of a political solution, the crisis still continues, and in Syria, a civil war broke out and the brutality and injustice continues. Many of these street protests ... • 44. The Oil Prices : Comparison Of Policy Between Kuwait And... The Plummeting Oil Prices: Comparison of Policy Between Kuwait & the UAE Introduction The Gulf Cooperation Council states (GCC) are heavily dependent on oil to generate economic growth. Oil and natural gas are the two main sources of capital inflow that enters into these countries. GCC countries' dependency creates economies that are sensitive to any decline in oil prices. After four years of relatively stable oil prices of around $105 per barrel (bbl), a sharp and notable decline occurred in June 2014. In the face of the plummeting oil prices, most GCC countries have cut their spendings to cope with the significant reductions in their revenues. Given than oil prices fell by 29% in 2015 and 44% in 2014, the GCC countries are facing economic crisis that could translate into economic deficits for some. Economists suggested that Bahrain and Oman are the two GCC states that are most severely affected by the drop in oil prices, while Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar are in good standing. The reasoning behind it, is that Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar, are considered as major oil producers. Whereas, Oman and Bahrain do not contribute as much to the production of oil and natural gas. Major oil producers among the GCC are well–equipped to deal with such economic upheavals, as they own financial wealth in the form of foreign exchange reserves, as well as in sovereign wealth funds. Regardless of the economic standing of some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to Merriam–Webster, the definition of culture is, "the customary beliefs, social forms, and material traits of a racial, religious, or social group" (Merriam–Webster, 2016). Bahrain is no different when it comes to the definition of culture. Bahrain has a long history of rulers and protectorates dating as far back as the 7th century. Throughout ruling by the Portuguese and Persians, it has remained an Arab nation since the 7th century. In 1783, the Al Khalifah family began to rule, continuing to this day (Crystal, Smith, 2017). From 1820 until 1971, the country remained a protectorate of Great Britain, meaning Great Britain remained responsible for the defense of the country while helping it maintain relations with other world powers (Crystal, Smith, 2017). In 1971, the United Kingdom and Bahrain signed a treaty of friendship, effectively terminating status as a British protectorate and allowing Bahrain to claim independence. At this time, Bahrain became a member of the United Nations and Arab League. Thus imperial Ethiopia and the Gulf Arab Countries were partners against the spread of socialist and radical political ideas in this part of the world (Hoynes 1993). We are not very sure about the rate of involvement Gulf Arab countries in other African Countries during the same period. But it is still very curious to know the reasons for complete absence of GCC Arab Countries investment in the Imperial Ethiopia.
