The books The Absolutely True Diary of a Part–Time Indian (written by Sherman Alexie) and The
House on Mango Street (written by Sandra Cisneros) follow young adolescents as they come of age
throughout the novel. In the former, Alexie writes about Junior's struggle to come to terms with both
his place in his Native–American heritage and his new found home in an all–white school. The later
contains the story of a young Hispanic girl striving to defy the gender roles set in place by her

The main two artists that will be looked at are Shepard Fairey and Blek le Rat. Although these two
artists have very different styles of art, they are connected by the fact that they take inspirations
from social or political dialogue. Fairey is a street artist located in New York, with a following

growing, yet awfully poor, family. Finally, her and her family moved ended up in the house on

The House on Mango Street For my second quarter book report, I chose to read the classic book,
"The House on Mango Street" by Sandra Cisneros. The novel is a coming of age story about a
young girl finding her place in the world. The story tells about a young girl finding who grows
throughout the story. She goes through puberty. As she is going through this change, she realizes her
and her friends are starting to like the attention of boys. Along the way, she is brought down, pushed
away, and even sexually assaulted. The young girl's name is Esperanza, and she is trying to find her
place on Mango Street. The story takes place over one year, (a date that is not stated) in a poor
Chicago neighborhood for Latinos. The protagonist in the book is Esperanza, the narrator. Her
opposing forces are her neighborhood and the world. Esperanza is a round character, because she is
very outgoing, experimental, and curious. She is also a dynamic character. Throughout the story she
experiences hormonal changes that affect her feelings, thoughts, and friendships. Because the
antagonist is not a human, it has no character traits. Esperanza feels like she belongs somewhere
other than Mango Street. She feels as if she cannot live her life to the fullest potential there. She
strongly wishes she could leave her neighborhood behind. She observes other women, and makes

The House on Ferree St. I didn't always live in California. Before California I lived in Denver,
Colorado. Before Denver I lived in Aurora, Colorado. When we moved to california we had a family
of five. We moved to California, when I was six, Then we lived at my grandma's house in Riverside
for a year. We found a place on Ferree Street and that became our home. The area wasn't too bad,
but to newcomers it was an area that made you want to drive past the houses or walk faster when
your alone. I went to the school that was down Hardt Street. Victoria Elementary, it was called.
Every day and night there was the occasional speedster who sped through the stop signs as if they
were red flags then meant the racer was close to finishing the race. There were multiple candle areas
