Personal Experience on Microcultures
Most of my feelings I have towards microcultures are all based of personal experiences. I think
everyone always has some sort of feelings that come to mind when they see or interact with a certain
microculture and I am no exception. When it comes to rich people, I feel annoyed, envy, and
optimistic. I sometimes wish I had a lot of money and that feeling makes me optimistic about my
future. I think rich people are greedy because even though they have a lot of money already, all they
want is more. I also think rich people often believe they are superior to others because of their
money. They think because they are rich that they are above everyone else. These feelings and
opinions come from personal experiences I have dealt with before. I ... Show more content on

To me poor people offer help to others than some rich people. Towards African American people I
feel frightened, sorry, and easy going. I never mess with African American people because I feel
they could instantly beat me up if they wanted to, so I try not to insult them in any way. Also black
people get so much hate and criticism that I sometimes feel sorry for them and some of the stuff they
have to deal with. I think African American people are sore losers and aggressive. When they start
losing in sports especially football and basketball, some start trash talking and playing dirty. In high
school when I played with some of friends in basketball versus 5 black people, they started pushing
us, slapping our arms when we shoot, calling fouls when nothing even happened just because they
were losing. I think that anyone hates to lose, but black people get angrier than most people and start
resorting to violence as the answer. This does not happen every single time but when it occurs
multiple times you start to judge by those experiences. When it comes to Asians, I feel at ease,

Self Reflection Paper
1) Emotions are feelings or thoughts that are hard to express to family or loved ones, the actual
taught definition of the word emotions is "Emotions are processes shaped by physiology,
perceptions and social experience." (Lecture 3, Slide 3). When thinking about all the emotions an
individual could have, two emotions that are difficult for me to express would be sadness and
affection. When experiencing emotions from someone else it's difficult for me to handle grief and
anger, due to certain situation I personal had to deal with and situations I seen people around me
dealing with. When looking back at my notes, lecture two, slide six has taught me how that there are
major influences on us and that determines the relationships we have with ... Show more content on

c) When the emotion of sadness does come upon me, some things I do or tell myself when I do start
experiencing this emotion is to keep in controlled meaning to keep my calm, and not to overthink
the reason behind the emotion, exactly name what I'm feeling (Lecture 3), name it and understand
why the reason behind the emotion is making me feel sadness. Telling myself that everything is
going to be okay and that feeling this emotion isn't the end of the world is something natural and
calming treatment I end up doing mentally.
d) Some indirect ways that I express the emotion of sadness is by making sure that the topic that are
sad are talked about and shared upon a group of friends or family member another way I show
sadness is when someone is going through a rough time involving something personal, I try to
connect on that individual's level. Showing feelings that are out of your comfort is a good way to
over come an emotion.
e) I would strongly like to change the way the emotion of sadness makes me feel, I want to be able
to express sadness and not be a closed off person no matter who im showing the emotion towards. In
another class discussion, the class shared countless stories about their past and how they got to
where they are today and the part that really touched my heart was when my classmates were
sharing the struggles that came along the way, and hearing their story and not being to react using
sadness was unbreakable.
1a) For my other emotion that is difficult

The Human Emotions and Experiences expressed in "The Whipping" and "My Papa's Waltz" "The
Whipping" and "My Papa's Waltz" both deal with critical and serious issues that lie within the
human mind. The issues being compared can be viewed as abusive, emotional or confusion. The
reader can possibly be drawn by the poet to experience their own memories, emotions, and
experiences in similar situations. These childhood memories can easily be revisited as adults and
their life experiences can be viewed differently as they enter into adulthood. Both pleasant and
unpleasant memories stay with a person throughout his or her lifetime. In each of these poems the
poet expresses similar situations in his own journey through his eyes as a ... Show more content on

The young boy loves when his father comes home and spends time with him. The child becomes
unhappy and saddened when the playfulness is abruptly ended and he is forced to go to bed as stated
"Then waltzed me off to bed/ Still Clinging to your shirt." (lines 15–16). The third area being
discussed is the confusion expressed in "The Whipping" by the child running from his mother who
is trying to give him a whipping. The child is being chased uncontrollably like an animal in the
woods as stated in the second stanza: Wildly he crashed through elephant– ears, pleads in dusty
zinnias, while she in spite of crippling fat pursues and corners him.(lines 5–8) The child is trying to
escape and figure out why he is in trouble and why he has is so fearful of his mother. A similar
circumstance unfolds in "My Papa's Waltz" where the child desires attention and acceptance by the
parent. The small boy enjoys spending time with his father and clings to him for attention as they
waltz around the kitchen before heading to bed. The small child's only focus is on his father and the
joy he is experiencing. In conclusion, "The Whipping" and "My Papa's Waltz" both share

The Dropbox Documentary Analysis
Different news outlets, social media accounts, and TV stations are constantly filling our minds with
information every day. Whether we are aware of it, or not, every media source will use multiple
persuading elements to create different emotions or attitudes towards the information being
presented. Three documentaries are guilty of using persuasive techniques similar to various media
outlets. The Dropbox, a documentary directed by Brian Ivie, explains how a controversial invention,
which allows mother to anonymously drop off their unwanted babies, is impacting a small
community in South Korea. Blackfish is produced by Gabriela Cowperthwaite, and it shows the
harsh treatment of Orcas who live in captivity and perform shows for entertainment. Finally, in Race
to Nowhere, Vicki Abeles displays how children are becoming overworked and overscheduled by
their schools. Each one of these documentaries use the rhetorical tool of pathos in order to make the
audience feel a sense of displeasure towards those in authority.

Ivie displayed the struggles of women who get pregnant out of wedlock to reveal the helplessness
that they face. Cowperthwaite presented the misjudgements made by Seaworld authorities to
construct a feeling of disappointment with those in charge. Finally, Abeles used the personal
experiences from students, parents, and teachers to compel the audience to be frustrated with the
educational system. Every director produced a feeling of displeasure by their choices of media. The
selected testimonies and visuals generated an emotional tie between the audience and the
documentary, which produced these feelings of discontent. Whether it is media outlets, social media
accounts, TV shows, or even documentaries, directors are using rhetorical tools to shape the way

States Of Feelings Through Collaboration Or Series
States of Feelings through Collaboration or Series
Everyone has feeling whether they show them or not, and they have a great impact on how, what
and why we create art. However, how much of our emotions are shown through our facial
expressions? How well can another read those expressions versus how well can we read that same
person's of state of emotion through their art. None the less anger may result in strong gestural
painting. Addition to anger any strong emotion can come through in whatever we create.
History shows us that great works can come from a highly agitated state of emotion. This goes along
with what Edvard Munch said about The Scream (1893), "For several years I was almost mad... You

What is the juxtaposition between the feeling in the photograph and the title.
If we observe the color pallets used in the examples we can see that they inspire melancholy in the
audience. Color can be pivotal when expressing your state of feelings.
How much do our deeper emotions drive our creations and do we ever hold back for fear of
repercussions from our audience? Are you willing to put raw emotion out there for others to judge?
How would you feel about sharing that with someone else? Collaborating on a piece that is deeply
involved with your feelings. Would you feel safe to express your state of feeling through a work
with another. Art evokes strong feelings in those that perceive it. When we look at art our state of
feeling changes depending on what you see.
Feelings are a fluid experience, constantly changing throughout the day. What would happen if you
recorded your state of feeling over a period of time? The picture to the left is of the National
Geographic's Girl with the Green Eyes. The photograph was taken years apart yet it still elicits a
strong emotional response from the viewer.

The Process Of A Counselling Relationships
The process involved in establishing a counselling relationships includes many factors to ensure that
a client feels safe and comfortable with a counsellor to explore his or her feelings with them. The
counsellor must offer a clean, uncluttered, protected environment with no distractions and is safe
from others hearing the conversations, and greet the client in a friendly welcoming manner. The
room which the counselling takes place can have a great influence on the relationship so make sure
it is welcoming and relaxing. The counsellor must build rapport with the client for the client to trust
them and allow free flow of information. Rapport is the sense of connecting with someone. It is
something that builds up over time by showing the client they can trust the counsellor and made to
feel comfortable. As a counsellor/client relationship, although not friends it is important to highlight
common interests between them, be empathetic and develop understanding. The client will
unconsciously notice similarities and start to feel in tune with the counsellor. To build rapport with a
client a counsellor can – – Offer a clean, uncluttered, safe–environment with no interruptions or
distractions – Revise key notes before and after session to remember issues, names of partner etc.,
(forgetting things like this that are important to the client can damage the relationship) – Remain in a
professional manner regardless of issue or behaviour – Don't be judgemental as rapport can be
effected

The Importance Of Personal Counseling In Nursing
A patient on the nursing unit had a right knee replacement, and the patient is post–operative day
two. The patient did not complain of pain, but the staff could tell that the patient was in pain because
the patient would grimace when she was moved. The patient's sister was also present at the bedside,
and the sister would answer for the patient majority of the times. After the sister left in the
afternoon, the patient's own personality started to shine, and a better relationship was gained with
the patient because she was able to express her own needs. This event was a significant event in the
ways of knowing because the patient had a quiet voice when the sister was present, but when the
sister left, the patient developed her own voice. Personal knowing is important in this situation
because it allows nurses to actually listen to what the patient is saying to develop a therapeutic
relationship with the patient (Fawcett, Watson, Neuman, Walker, & Fitzpatrick, 2001). Overall, the
therapeutic relationship was not completely built until after the patient's sister left, and the patient's
own voice was heard. During this situation, feelings were mutual because the patient was becoming
frustrated with the sister because the sister was not allowing the patient to be her true self. There was
a gut feeling by the nurses that the sister was overbearing to the sister because she would not let the
patient answer for herself most of the time, so the nurses decided that it would

Peer Couseling Refleciton Paper
Coming from prior experience of having to go to counseling as a teenager, being a client in a peer
counseling was acceptable and familiar. The experience within the session in class was sufficient
enough to help deal with a particular problem I had been going through and wanted to search for a
possible resolution or change towards the problem for the near future. Though I did not know the
helper personally, I had known the helper through another sports team, and being friends within the
class helped with being comfortable talking about an issue within my own respective sport. Going
into the session being both athletes at the University of Maryland was comforting due to
understanding where we both were coming from. The helper concentrated working through each of
the different skills through the 3–stage model learned throughout the entire semester to help with my
particular issue within the training staff. I noticed her help and focus of wanting to guide through my
initial emotions of the situation, moving towards providing advice and insight about the problem,
and lastly providing possible recommendations and solutions towards confronting the issue at hand.
It felt good and promising receiving possible solutions on how to work through the problem for any
future issues relating towards the initial problem. Listening to the helper coming from a different
perspective on the issue helped see from a new perspective outside my own opinions about the

Analysis Of The Poem ' Rich 's ' Diving Into The Wreck '
RICH:
1. If you were asked to paraphrase "what happens" in the poem, what would you say? What does it
mean to dive into the wreck? Taking Adrienne Rich's "Diving into the Wreck" at face value, one
may literally summarize the poem by stating that an individual, hearing stories about a wrecked
ship, decided to dive down to the fabled ship alone to see it for themselves and found it. However,
reading between the lines, one may also feel that the poem is more than just an adventure for the
narrator, but rather a personal journey as well. At the beginning of the poem, the narrator describes
hearing about the wreck and preparing to visit it alone, descending the ladder and entering the water
below. However, the narrator seems to feel apprehensive and a bit fearful, referring to their scuba–
suit as "body–armor" (Rich 5) and describing the growing foreboding feeling as the water gets
darker. But these feelings soon vanish, for the narrator comes upon the wreck, captivated by the
ship's figurehead who is forever trapped at the bottom of the ocean. However, at this point in time,
the narrator seems to have a sort of epiphany while engrossed by the image of the ship that is a bit
difficult to describe. The narrator states, "I am she: I am he" (Rich 77) in reference to the
figureheads after traveling into the ship's hold, eventually emerging from their adventure as a
different person who now identifies with the forgotten, damaged, and lost articles of the ship (which

The Teacher Who Changed My Life Nicholas Gage Analysis
When a child enters school, he or she becomes totally engrossed in his or her environment. The
people around that child, and all of the surroundings really leave a huge impact on him or her.
Therefore, the most important person in the classroom, the teacher, can thoroughly influence
students. Teacher's can change students' lives for the better and evolve them to excel in many fields
of not only academics, but also everyday life. This is precisely what the author, Nicholas Gage
admitted to experience in his article "The Teacher Who Changed My Life". Gage writes about the
tough childhood he faced as a new orphan that emigrated from his homeland, Greece, to the United
States of America. His English teacher, Miss Hurd, was a great influence on him. She brought
boundless, fantastic opportunities to Gage that later allowed him to taste the beautiful flavors of
success in which he devoured. In his article, the author opts for narrative writing where he expresses
his personal encounters and experiences that eventually shaped him into becoming the man he is
today. He appeals to readers by narrating his story with emotion. Also, he cunningly tries to oblige
readers to side with his own political conceptions. By expressing ... Show more content on

that it is predominantly woven with typical language and informal, recognizable phrases.
Additionally, the article can be seen as a very creative eulogy to both the writer's mother and
teacher. Finally, readers are generally fascinated by the author's unique way of narrating his life
story while dedicating it as a eulogy to both of the most important women in his

The fear of the inner monster is scary, overwhelming feeling. We keep it hidden inside of us for
personal reasons. My inner monster is the fear of not knowing what is next in life. It creeps me out

not knowing what might be my next chapter in life makes me feel nauseous. I'm the type of person
who likes to have everything in my life planned. From one thing to another, I consider myself to be
a proficient. Every Time I'm put in a situation where I'm supposed to keep moving on and can't

Reflective Reflection
For the last six weeks in both mental and acute setting, I have reflected on events that I had met in
each week. Now, I am going to identify essential personal learning outcomes from those events and
will include personal awareness of strengths and weaknesses. Among the different models of
reflection, I will use the Gibbs model of reflection which entails six stages such as description,
feelings, evaluation, analysis, conclusion, action plan.
Description
In the past six weeks while I was on placement, I was able to critically reflect on my performance on
a weekly basis. I was able to pin–point my own practises that breached the infection control protocol
such as forgetting to put–on gloves when I administered intramuscular injection as well as not
wearing the personal protective equipment when entering into the room for a contact precaution
patient. Some situations not only gave me an opportunity to learn from others but also to seek
feedback to improve my communication skills especially in providing health education to
indigenous patients. Lastly, there were instances that my critical thinking was challenged and I was
able to prevent an event that could endanger a patient's life by advocating for the patient.
Feelings
In every situation I have met, there was always a positive and some negative emotions. Sometimes I
got anxious when my facilitator was around while doing health education to a patient and also got
nervous that it makes my hands shake when I administered an

Persuasive Essay On The Giver
Have you ever wondered what it is like to take medication to get rid of unwanted emotions? In The
Giver, by Lois Lowry there is a community run by a chief elder and a committee of elders that create
rules forcing many to take medication that keeps away feelings and relationships with others in the
community. There is a lot of evidence in the text that talks about, lack of emotion, lack of choices,
and lessons that will not be learned throughout life without the choices of love and having
relationships. Therefore children entering puberty should not take medication to keep away feelings
with another person.
Children entering puberty should not take medication to keep away feelings in order to prevent loss
or lack of emotion. In the real world many children fall in love young which creates relationships
between students in all grades. Some children or teens are also not responsible enough to take
medicine daily, and can be pressured out of taking it. In The Giver by Lois Lowry, the children and
adults have to take medication to keep away any unwanted feelings or relationships. The chief elder

And sometimes you are very confused or pressured that you don't take your medicine or you start to

medication or things that are put inside of the medicine. If that is a problem then how will children
keep away feelings and other emotions? That problem can concern parents of children that are
allergic to the medication. Nothing around us can really keep away feelings or relationships with
another person, because of how most of us are, and how we have problems following commands or
directions. Therefore the children are going to have those personal feelings anyway even if they are

1. Discussion of your personal reactions and experiences (thoughts, feelings, behaviors) during the
session. I am approaching this journal entry in hoping I can make sense out of group and my
feelings. After last session, I felt angry, misunderstood, disconnected, and untrusting of one of the
leaders. After this session I feel the same, but towards both of the leaders because I felt like the other
leader picked up where the first left off. I have never felt so uncomfortable with a facilitator, leader,
or therapist in my 40 years of both group and individual therapy. With that said; I was impressed
when one of the leaders spoke to her point of view and feelings about last week's session openly and
honestly. By her doing this, it opened up empathy and compassion in my heart for her. The other
leader continued to humanize both leaders by talking about their group experience together and tried
to bring our group into a realm of reflection about pain and its connection to growth. Each member
shared on this topic, even though it changed frequently, as I sat by and actively listened to each
individual share with no intention of sharing anything that would rock the boat because I am tired of
being singled out in the group. Twenty five minutes before the end of the meeting, one of the leaders
(the one I don't usually have an issue with) stated that we were going to talk to Alan now. I shared
openly and honestly about the way I felt and shared my gratitude for the other leader's

Self Care Activity Of Meditation
There is nothing good that I can say about today. I have felt sick and nauseated all day. The events
that occurred in this city today are unspeakable. I am usually in complete control of my emotions,
but to my embarrassment, I lost control of them and I cannot seem to regain control. At first, I felt
shocked, when the media released the name of the shooter, I felt like someone had punched me in
the stomach. I thought there was no way it could be the same person, there was no way it could be
my former co–worker and friend's brother. Turns out it was. I am heartbroken for the marines who
were murdered and their families who have been so heinously, irrevocably altered, but I am also
heartbroken for my friend and her family. I feel guilty for the last sentiment, in light of everything,
but I can help but be heartbroken for them as well. I have decided to use the self–care activity of
meditation to try to process my feelings and regain some emotional control. Right now, I am in a
very bad mental and emotional state; I hope that his activity will help. The meditation was extremely
difficult, but I feel like I am in a better emotional state. I felt the need to lie down, so I lay on my
couch and tried to meditate. It lasted a little over twenty minutes. I am not comfortable talking about
the thoughts that processed through my head, they are much too personal at the moment, but I will
discuss the feelings. Initially, I became more upset, angry, confused and emotionally out of

To What Extent Does Shared Knowledge Shape Personal Knowledge
To what extent does shared knowledge shape personal knowledge? Knowledge can be split into two
categories; shared knowledge, and personal knowledge. Shared knowledge is knowledge that is
deemed to be universally accepted and thus has the reliability to be shared in means such as
disciplines taught in school whereas Personal knowledge is often built through ones feelings,
emotions, perspectives and opinions, as well as how an individual would interpret the world around
them, through their senses, and often is not shared, due to its subjectivity and lack of reliability
following suit. Shared knowledge shapes personal knowledge to a great extent, in terms of
provoking an emotional response through one's agreement or disagreement, which then ... Show

However, a close companion recently tells me that she is contemplating suicide. She begs me not to
tell anybody due to fear of being ostracized due to the stigmatization of mental illness and suicide,
in the culture that we share, as mental illnesses challenges the Asian philosophy of "social harmony"
in terms of face, meaning that one's ailment reflects on their family negatively, and thus telling an
adult, who would then notify her family would not be helpful, and may even prove to be
counterproductive, as she might face additional distress if her parents choose to scold and berate her.
However, I am well aware that the efforts I would make in order to emotionally coach her, would a)
be a short term solution and b) tire me out, leading to my coaching being less effective, and is not
guaranteed to prevent her from endangering herself. Thus I do not consent/allow for the shared

Lord Of The Flies By William Golding
In William Golding's novel Lord of the Flies, we can see that Jack faces his own personal battle
between himself and his want for power. Jack's desire for dominance led him to commit evil acts for
his own personal gain, than the greater good for all boys on the island. Jack claimed that he was fit
for the role of leadership several times during the early chapters of the book. Golding stated that it
was between Ralph and Jack who would lead and that Jack believed he should be chosen saying, " 'I
ought to be chief,' said Jack with simple arrogance, "because I'm chapter and head boy. I can sing a
C charp." (22). This is where Jack lists all the reasons that he is the best selection of a chief over
Ralph, he wanted to persuade the rest of the boys for their vote. Towards, the end of the book we see
Jack try to reclaim the already lost authority from Ralph. Jack induces the boys by saying, " 'I gave
you food' said Jack, 'and my hunters will protect you from the beast. Who will join my tribe?" (150)
Jack tries to make all the other boys, besides the hunters who already sided with him, to join his new
tribe. This attempt for power with going against Ralph, clearly the most knowledgeable leader,
displays how Jack only cares to satisfy his coveting of power.

Challenges Faced By Employees And Their Personal Feelings
There are many challenges that supervisors face but over the years I have learned that the most
import challenges are the employees and their personal feelings. Many employees have a problem
balancing home and work because of the current impact of societal and demographic trends.
Employees have a tendency to come to work with attitudes and take it out on the other employees.
As the Program Manager at MCIA, the first thing I had to do was to be able to deal with the
different personalities on a day to day basis because no matter what, as the supervisor you are
always in the middle of any incident. Whether it is the perfect employee or the troubled employee
your responsibility is to keep things moving on the job. Other challenges that a supervisor face are
ensuring that your employees understand your expectations, establishing a positive relationship,
delegating work, keeping your employees motivated, determining ways to reward employees with
company guidelines and by me having a solid relationship with my manager. An employee will
respect you if you set your expectations from the very beginning. The first thing I did as a supervisor
was to get the position description for each employee, ensure they had a copy, read it, understood it,
and set up a one on one meeting to discuss their position and my expectations. The position
description contained specific duties that can lead into the expectations. If one of the duties is that

Personal Narrative: Goliath Not Feeling Well
Goliath Not Feeling Well
I didn't even want a dog. My ex–boyfriend wanted a dog and since I had the credit to get him, I was
the one who bought him. I didn't want the responsibility because I was in my mid 20's and could
hardly take care of myself. But after about 1 day of having Goliath, I knew I would be with him till
the day he died.
My boyfriend and I broke up when Goliath was about 4 months old. I was friends with Saverio at
that time (who is now my current husband), so Saverio has known Goliath pretty much as long as I
have.
My Miniature Pinscher has survived some pretty traumatizing things. I was so clueless when it came

Goliath Sitting With His Leg Funny: Back Spinal Issues
Next, he started walking funny. It was like his front feet moved too fast. He would put his head
down and his front feet would walk close together and quickly. At first we thought it was him being
shy or awkward because it happened a lot when we were at my parents and they were babying him.
But, it started happening every time we came home from a long walk, and we knew something more
was happening.
Goliath has climbed mountains and has always been able to go for hours at a time without any
issues, so this was an obvious problem.
Then he started tipping. His back end would tip to the right or left, and he would almost fall down.
Again, this seemed to happen after long walks, but it also occurred in extreme cold or heat. He
would be better after some rest, so we chalked it up to leg and back problems from over–exertion,
and we tried exercising his legs and stretching his back to help him get stronger and looser. It
seemed to help a little, so we thought maybe it was going to go

and what it means to its audience? To do this, the idea of what art means must be applied to the idea
of what art is. In Dorothy Allison's This is Our World, the author touches on points of what art is and
what it means to its viewers. These points and supporting stories point to the idea that art is
subjective, personal, and provocative. This allows Allison to draw her conclusion that arts purpose is
to depict the deeper meaning into situations and incidents that occur in our world. In Dorothy
Allison's journal, one can see how the author effectively conveys the ideas of art being personal and
subjective, but fails at detailing how art can be subjective. One idea that Allison points to throughout
her essay is that art is subjective, stating that every person sees art differently. While doing this she
adds her ideas of what art should be, indicating that art is meant to tell a story and tell the reality of a
situation. For example, Allison references a memory of her friend Jackie criticizing her black and
white photos; which in Allison eyes captures the stories of the people within them, making it art
(Allison). In this moment one can see how one form of art can be seen as nothing more than a
common object depending on perception. Another example of this is how in the 21st

Similarities Between Catcher In The Rye And Othello
Things don't always appear, sound or act the same however, things will appear, sound and act in
similar ways. This quite clearly connects with J.D Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye and William
Shakespeare's Othello because they both have similarities based on the realism of the characters in
terms of psychology. Two different books written by different authors, at different time's and both
books that portray two different plots have one unique similarity. Both the central protagonists,
Holden and Othello, show realistic human characteristics and emotions which makes them both
equally realistic characters in terms of psychology. Although Holden and Othello have many
differences from each other such as age, lifestyle, profession, and the society they live in, this
understandable make them quite diverse however, in terms of psychology, both major characters that
play vital roles and both characters who are the protagonists depict human characteristics and
emotions which makes them both realistic characters. When characters share things, and do things
that are relatable to the audience, it makes the audience connected with the characters which results
in catharsis and thus, the realism in the characters are experienced in the audience through the
relatability and connection. Holden, who is the protagonist and the narrator of the book called The
Catcher in the Rye, show human characteristics through his emotions of remorse and regret which
makes him a realistic character. Holden

Lsi Life Styles Inventory Paper

LSI Paper
The life styles inventory is a survey of questions that help us to gain an insight into our own
personality and what type of behaviors we exert to others as individuals. It helps us to look at the
positive and negative qualities of our personalities and ways to improve upon them. A look at my
LSI styles complex radiates that my primary thinking style is linked to the avoidance category. The
avoidance scale states that I tend to use the strategy of withdrawal by hiding my feelings and being
shy to express myself. It also states that as things become more threatening to me the more I tend to
avoid those situations. These thinking styles are linked to feelings of denying responsibility for my

There are times where I feel the need to dominate and lead the way such as when working with my
dad in his apartment management company. I observe him overruling his tenants and exerting his
power to put people in their place and follow the complex rules and regulations, and have somehow
manifested those qualities into myself, like in example, if I am at work and he is not there then I do
find myself to be quite dominating and exerting my power to get tenants to do what there suppose to
do or pay their rent. I also find myself being dominating to people I know are weaker than me or just
shy and not outspoken about their feelings. The other style that I was tied with is the conventional
scale which measures my tendency to act in a conforming way. These tendencies are characterized
by perceiving rules as a source of comfort and security. There is also a preference for staying unseen
and unnoticed and a tendency to cover up my mistakes. There is also preoccupation with appearing
to be average and just like everyone else. Additionally there is a reduction in originality which is
very true for my behavior. These characteristics are also a bit contrary to my power and authoritarian
style but somehow I find myself being shy as well as authoritarian in certain situations. I would have
to say however that the conventional characteristic is one that I might have to disagree with because

Empathy In Counselling
Counselling is an activity whereby a person helps another one through verbal interaction. However
counselling should not be mistaken for advice giving, or an attempt to solve a person's problems.
Counsellors are expected to be professional, while at the same time possessing qualities essential in
creating an atmosphere of mutual trust and confidentiality with the client. A good relationship
between a counsellor and a client, ensures that at the end of the day, the therapy is successful.
Rogers (1951) strongly believes that the moment a client feels that the counsellor is on their side,
providing them with the comfort that they seek, they become more motivated to change. This
somehow highlights the importance of a positively established relationship between a counsellor and
a client. This essay will assess ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The outcome of the session will probably be negative. When a counsellor shows empathy towards a
client, it strengthens their relationship. Carl Rogers (1975) defined empathy as "being able to relate
with the client's ways of thinking and being able to express your understanding of what they are
experiencing, during counselling sessions". The whole point of showing empathy is so that the client
can feel that they are being understood and their feelings shared. Without this connection, clients
and counsellors will find it difficult to develop a successful relationship. As stated by Angus and
Hardtke (2006) "By showing empathy, the counsellor allows the client to reveal their personal
emotions and experiences". Which is the whole point of counselling, as people who seek help from
counsellors want to find something extra other than obtain sympathy that they usually get from their
families and friends while discussing their issues. According to Westra (2004) the moment a client
feels that they have bonded with a counsellor, their will to attain changes

Personal Narrative: My Feelings About Writing
My feelings about writing are something a teacher does not want to here. Personally I do not like to
write because I struggle at it just like reading. Another reason why I do not like writing is because it
is very time consuming and I do not have the patience. Writing takes many steps and processes to
have a good piece of work when I would rather skip them all too just a couple steps. When I am
trying to writing I feel like I so many ideas and topics to write about, but when time comes to write.

Personal And Professional Values
My personal and professional values play an important part in my life. I use these values in my
everyday life either it is at home or at work. My values are what define my goals and purpose in life,
allowing me to decide right from wrong. Having personal and professional values defines what my
character and help me to achieve is a Mental Health Counselor and be successful. I have chosen five
personal values that. Trustworthy is an important personal value to me it is not only being able to
follow through on plans, keeping information that is told to you in private, but it is when you keep
your word and following through with it. Also, being trustworthy you must honestly let the other
person know where you stand and how you are feeling. Intelligence as a personal value doesn't only
mean being able to acquire skills and obtaining knowledge to the highest degree it can also mean
being able to understand other people's emotional state and feelings, in the social situation being
able to adapt to my surroundings and being able to help people. Fairness and Equity are a personal
value I hold dear to me hear no matter the race, culture, or social background it is about treating
people fairly. I don't let my feeling and bias get in the way when I am getting to know someone and
making decisions without getting to know them I give everyone the same opportunities. Having
spirituality in my life shapes me into the person It makes me think twice about my actions, it also
gives me a purpose in life and an understanding of the fundamental basics of the universe and
someone higher than me gives me purpose in life. It also gives me instructions and guidance on how
to treat other human beings. Passion is a quality I think everyone should want at a value it is not
settling for doing something you dread when you are passionate about something you put all your
efforts into it and you want to achieve excellences. When you are passionate about something you
feel more energized and more motivated when you are doing something you enjoy. When you are
feeling happy and passionate you feel you want to accomplish more you want to be beyond

Constructivism is the only cognitive–behavioral theory I have used to influence my personal theory;
this is because it, "focuses on the interdependence of thinking, feeling, and behavior..." (Okun &
Kantrowitz, 2015, p. 152). Constructivism is also phenomenological being that, "it focuses on one's
subjective view of self, of others, and of the world" (Okun & Kantrowitz, 2015, p. 152). Like the
other theories and my own theory, Constructivism values a warm helping relationship, believes
people have free will, and evokes responsibility within the client. Without this theory, my personal
theory would be very affective, and as much as love the affective strategy, I need to address
behaviors and thoughts as well. The constructivism approach values all three of these equally, which
is why I like it so much and believe it is so effective. By incorporating this theory, I am also
considering but not focusing on the client's past, which impacts their present and future. In this
approach, the helper is empowering the client to make a positive change, which is the over goal for
me in this profession. If I can make a positive change in at least one clients life, I have done my

As a future IHP, it is important to be able to cope with stress and ensure that I do not burnout (Ross

Stress and Burnout:
Stress is understood as the way in which a person responds to the demands, both physical and
emotional, which have been placed on them. It is a reaction to change and stress can become more
apparent when the requirements a situation are greater than your ability to cope. Stress is a

I believe that I have gained valuable skills to reduce and manage stress (Olckers, Gibbs & Duncan

patients because of the need to make significant decisions. The resulting stress needs to be managed
constructively so that healthy relationships are maintained which are valuable to my career (Gibson,
Swarts and Sandenbergh 2:109).
In matric I learnt how important it is that you don't let stress negatively affect your life such as
causing depression and reduced concentration (Gibson, Swarts and Sandenbergh 2:106). I have
learnt how stress can develop into burnout and the consequences of this which have been outlined in
defining burnout. Knowing how to prevent burnout is critical in my career as a future IHP. Each day
of work will revolve around dealing with people's problems which can accumulate and cause
emotional strain (Ross & Deverell, 2004:304).
Knowledge of harmful implications of stress on well–being will affect my behaviours in the future
as I consciously work to eliminate these. I now understand that it is not healthy to repeatedly stay up
late to complete work because adequate sleep in critical to well–being (Ross & Deverell, 2004:308).

Gloria Anzaldua How To Tame A Wild Tongue Summary
In "How to Tame a Wild Tongue," Gloria Anzaldua discloses her true feelings about societal and
cultural imbalances encountered by minorities by successfully utilizing pathos. Based on historical
context, Gloria Anzaldua was raised in the 1940s in the south where racial discrimination was more
prevalent than in most parts of the United States. She reveals that Latin Americans, in spite of their
distinct languages, are coerced to forgo their heritage and conform to Anglo society. Language,
which is taken for granted here in the United States, is fervently cherished by Anzaldua, expressing
"I am my language" (39). Anzaldua produces her argument by utilizing her past experiences as a
multicultural female living on the border between conflicting cultures and languages, and describes
how she and thousands of others are being looked down upon for being a minority and for speaking
their foreign tongues. Anzaldua opens her literary work with a narrative of the dentist where she
includes the quote, "And I think, how do you tame a wild tongue, train it to be quiet, how do you
bridle and saddle it?" (34) to introduce the concept of the wild tongue and how this idea applies to
her both literally and symbolically. The tongue, representing her linguistic traditions, is being
threatened by society who is pressuring her to forgo her culture. By incorporating a comparable and
connecting experience, Anzaldua strongly utilizes the rhetorical strategy of pathos because she
provides her readers with a perspective of a person who has experienced this "taming" of a "wild
tongue" firsthand, evoking a sense of empathy within her readers.
Being proud of one's culture and language can often diminish when immigrating to a new country,
but the author refuses the rejection of her culture, and most especially her tongue. She captivates the
audience by providing a personal experience of when she was attacked for correcting her name, "If
you want to be American, speak 'American.' If you don't like it, go back to Mexico where you
belong" (34). By including an anecdote packed with emotional stimuli, Anzaldua causes us to
experience empathy for her and other minorities who are regarded as outsiders in a place they call
"home." She

Abstract
For centuries psychologists and scientists have debated whether there was a nurture versus nature
aspect in how humans developed their ability to express emotion. A person's capability to express
emotion is thought to develop with your personality from birth to five years of age but others
believe that a person's genetic makeup forms your ability to show emotion. Scientists, especially

Introduction
Philosophers and psychologists identify emotion as something you gain through many experiences
you go through. There were many theories that were developed by scientist and psychologists
throughout the centuries that express their beliefs on how emotion is developed. Seventeenth–
century English philosopher John Locke described a young child 's mind as a "tabula rasa" (blank
slate) upon which the child 's experiences are recorded. A child at a young age can be easily
impacted or influenced by anything that is going on around them and the way instances are
perceived and responded to can affect the way the child is going to act in the future because there
isn't much. An eighteenth–century philosopher Jean–Jacques Rousseau also argued that "human
development was primarily a function of experience". He believed in the existence of a natural,
unspoiled state of humankind that is

This Way To The Gas versus On My First Son Essay
The short story, "This Way To The Gas, Ladies And Gentlemen" by Tadeusz Borowski and the poem
"On My First Son" by Ben Johnson, both deal with death. They are very different types of death and
are told in different ways but through some similar approaches, a similar feeling is portrayed to the
reader of each.
One of the first similarities of the two is that they are both told in the first person as well as being
personal accounts. Ben speaks, as himself, about the death of his son and Borowski tells of events at
a death camp that he was in during WWII. They both tell their stories through their own voices
which adds a lot to the experience of reading. It allows the reader to except just how real the story is.
Once the reader accepts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The realness and intimacy that the first–person voice gives us makes the reader more able to relate
and understand the feelings and ideas being expressed.
Both authors also set a mood with their writing to help the reader understand their feelings on the
deaths occurring around them. Borowski set a mood that showed the numbness he developed
surrounding death through his descriptions of the events occurring at the station. "The whip flies, the
woman screams, stumbles, and falls under the feet of the surging crowd. Behind her, a child cries in
a thin little voice 'Mamele!'–a very small girl with black tangled curls." (Borowski, 115) This quote
seems almost as though Borowski is writing a report about the incident. Actions are simply listed.
There is no obvious written feeling in it, even though what is being described is horrible. This shows
his numbness to sights of horror and death. Johnson uses mood to show his view on death, which is
much more sorrowful and passionate. "Farewell, thou child of my right hand, and joy; My sin was
too much hope of thee, loved boy." (Johnson, ln1–2) These lines clearly set a mood of grief. Its
expressed through the choice of words, like "Farewell", and phrases like "too much hope of thee,
loved boy".
There is one major difference surrounding death in the two pieces. Both authors have a different
outcome on the way they view deaths. Borowski only remains numb to deaths for a small time. By

My Personal Feelings of Self Worth Essay
People's self–esteem either high or low is shaped by their life experiences. I believe a person's self–
esteem begins to take shape at an early age, with their parents being a major influence. Kind,
positive, knowledgeable and caring parents help children create a positive self–image. Parents who
do not feel good about themselves or others, sometimes take it out on their childern by belittling
them or discouraging them. This leads the child down a path of self–doubt and eventually given the
right circumstances a lower self–esteem.

If that was not enough to deal with, I also have red hair and freckles so I was constantly teased about
my appearance. All this contributed to my own lack of self–confidence and a feeling that I was not
as good as my peers.
These are some experiences that have shaped my self–esteem. I do not portend to make excuses for
myself; I only want to illustrate that you can let these experiences either motivate you or de–
motivate you, the choice is always yours. I let these life experiences de–motivate until I came to the
realization that you should not let others determine your fate or what you can achieve.
Years ago I read a passage in a book by: "Louise L. Hay" she said; every morning you can get up
and look in the mirror and decide what kind of day you are going to have." The beauty of it is, you
can get up the following morning and decide all over again. This is a powerful statement, letting us
know we have the power to control our feelings and shape our outlook on life. If you are telling
yourself positive things, it will help you build a positive self–esteem.

The Consequence-Undoing Sanity By Louis Uchitelle
In Psychology Today, research has shown that the more roles people fill, the more sources of self–
esteem they have. Meaningful work has long been one of the most important ways to feel good
about oneself. With either no work environment at all or an unhealthy one, a person's self–esteem
can go down tremendously. The hard–working community must face the terrifying fact that their
identity is so highly linked to their job. Failure to maintain a job or fulfill a days' worth of work
connects with their personal emotions which then can result in low self–esteem, self–loathing, or
depression.
Having a job that meets personal satisfaction can boost one's self–esteem but when this job is taken
away, feelings start to change. The article "The Consequence–Undoing Sanity" by Louis Uchitelle,
describes a slump that many people in our country are currently in. It shows one individual's
struggle after being laid off from a job. Erin, Stacy's husband, lost all feeling when he was laid off
from his job that he started right out of college, his wife somehow thought he lost part of his
identity. Stacy describes in the article, "I think the layoff destroyed his self–esteem" (Uchitelle 342).
Having low esteem can truly impact one's life just like it has with Erin. Erin is impacted by the
depressed feelings of losing his job that his work ethics have changed, and he is not putting in his
full effort. Uchitelle expressed how Erin's wife feels about her husband's change in demeanor, "She

Review Of Twelve Steps To A Compassionate Life By Karen...
Compassion means to endure with other person, to put ourselves in somebody's else shoes. It is a
feeling of empathy, which in other words is to feel someone's pain as though if it were our own. The
book "Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life" by Karen Armstrong, discusses a set of different steps
people should follow in order to be compassionate. Armstrong emphasizes in the importance of
compassion in the world. The world is surrounded with problems that we do not know how to solve
and by being compassionate to one another we can create a compassionate and peaceful world.
Every person in this earth has the possibility to be compassionate to others and this includes treating

As stated before, some of the steps to take into consideration are steps one and three, which are to
learn more about compassion and to have compassion for ourselves. Nevertheless, step seven, how
little we know is another of the crucial steps to create a change in our value system. This step
consists of understanding that we are not always right. There are a lot of problems that need to be
solved in our lives therefore we must examine our ideas by understanding how little we know. It is a
good and important beginning because people are able to listen to one another. Thinking e know it
all only blocks our knowledge and immediately pushes us backwards. Thinking we know more than
other people only creates a feeling of superiority. Giving people the opportunity to speak their
thought while listening to them, leads to respect for others and respect for ourselves, which is a
wonderful opportunity. Armstrong refers to this step as a step that helps people to become wiser. For
instance, Armstrong said that a person might think they know something when they don't, and
someone that does not know it or even think they know it have a higher possibility of becoming
wiser (p. 99). They are more likely to become wiser because they are open minded where as the
other person is blocking all the other ideas because he thinks he is superior to

Personal Experience On Microcultures

  • 1. Personal Experience on Microcultures Most of my feelings I have towards microcultures are all based of personal experiences. I think everyone always has some sort of feelings that come to mind when they see or interact with a certain microculture and I am no exception. When it comes to rich people, I feel annoyed, envy, and optimistic. I sometimes wish I had a lot of money and that feeling makes me optimistic about my future. I think rich people are greedy because even though they have a lot of money already, all they want is more. I also think rich people often believe they are superior to others because of their money. They think because they are rich that they are above everyone else. These feelings and opinions come from personal experiences I have dealt with before. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I had a friend who told me stories of his family living in a car, eating only rice and bread for days but when I did not have money for lunch, he always offered a dollar. That right there is someone who cares more about others than himself. This happen multiple times it was not just one time thing. To me poor people offer help to others than some rich people. Towards African American people I feel frightened, sorry, and easy going. I never mess with African American people because I feel they could instantly beat me up if they wanted to, so I try not to insult them in any way. Also black people get so much hate and criticism that I sometimes feel sorry for them and some of the stuff they have to deal with. I think African American people are sore losers and aggressive. When they start losing in sports especially football and basketball, some start trash talking and playing dirty. In high school when I played with some of friends in basketball versus 5 black people, they started pushing us, slapping our arms when we shoot, calling fouls when nothing even happened just because they were losing. I think that anyone hates to lose, but black people get angrier than most people and start resorting to violence as the answer. This does not happen every single time but when it occurs multiple times you start to judge by those experiences. When it comes to Asians, I feel at ease, annoyed, and fear. • 5. Self Reflection Paper 1) Emotions are feelings or thoughts that are hard to express to family or loved ones, the actual taught definition of the word emotions is "Emotions are processes shaped by physiology, perceptions and social experience." (Lecture 3, Slide 3). When thinking about all the emotions an individual could have, two emotions that are difficult for me to express would be sadness and affection. When experiencing emotions from someone else it's difficult for me to handle grief and anger, due to certain situation I personal had to deal with and situations I seen people around me dealing with. When looking back at my notes, lecture two, slide six has taught me how that there are major influences on us and that determines the relationships we have with ... Telling myself that everything is going to be okay and that feeling this emotion isn't the end of the world is something natural and calming treatment I end up doing mentally. d) Some indirect ways that I express the emotion of sadness is by making sure that the topic that are sad are talked about and shared upon a group of friends or family member another way I show sadness is when someone is going through a rough time involving something personal, I try to connect on that individual's level. Showing feelings that are out of your comfort is a good way to over come an emotion. e) I would strongly like to change the way the emotion of sadness makes me feel, I want to be able to express sadness and not be a closed off person no matter who im showing the emotion towards. In another class discussion, the class shared countless stories about their past and how they got to where they are today and the part that really touched my heart was when my classmates were sharing the struggles that came along the way, and hearing their story and not being to react using sadness was unbreakable. 1a) For my other emotion that is difficult ... The Human Emotions and Experiences expressed in "The Whipping" and "My Papa's Waltz" "The Whipping" and "My Papa's Waltz" both deal with critical and serious issues that lie within the human mind. The issues being compared can be viewed as abusive, emotional or confusion. The reader can possibly be drawn by the poet to experience their own memories, emotions, and experiences in similar situations. These childhood memories can easily be revisited as adults and their life experiences can be viewed differently as they enter into adulthood. Both pleasant and unpleasant memories stay with a person throughout his or her lifetime. In each of these poems the poet expresses similar situations in his own journey through his eyes as a ... The child becomes unhappy and saddened when the playfulness is abruptly ended and he is forced to go to bed as stated "Then waltzed me off to bed/ Still Clinging to your shirt." (lines 15–16). The third area being discussed is the confusion expressed in "The Whipping" by the child running from his mother who is trying to give him a whipping. The child is being chased uncontrollably like an animal in the woods as stated in the second stanza: Wildly he crashed through elephant– ears, pleads in dusty zinnias, while she in spite of crippling fat pursues and corners him.(lines 5–8) The child is trying to escape and figure out why he is in trouble and why he has is so fearful of his mother. A similar circumstance unfolds in "My Papa's Waltz" where the child desires attention and acceptance by the parent. The small boy enjoys spending time with his father and clings to him for attention as they waltz around the kitchen before heading to bed. The small child's only focus is on his father and the joy he is experiencing. In conclusion, "The Whipping" and "My Papa's Waltz" both share similarities in their topics as the ... Whether we are aware of it, or not, every media source will use multiple persuading elements to create different emotions or attitudes towards the information being presented. Three documentaries are guilty of using persuasive techniques similar to various media outlets. The Dropbox, a documentary directed by Brian Ivie, explains how a controversial invention, which allows mother to anonymously drop off their unwanted babies, is impacting a small community in South Korea. Blackfish is produced by Gabriela Cowperthwaite, and it shows the harsh treatment of Orcas who live in captivity and perform shows for entertainment. Finally, in Race to Nowhere, Vicki Abeles displays how children are becoming overworked and overscheduled by their schools. Each one of these documentaries use the rhetorical tool of pathos in order to make the audience feel a sense of displeasure towards those in authority. Ivie, the director of The Dropbox, uses a ... Every director produced a feeling of displeasure by their choices of media. The selected testimonies and visuals generated an emotional tie between the audience and the documentary, which produced these feelings of discontent. States Of Feelings Through Collaboration Or Series States of Feelings through Collaboration or Series Everyone has feeling whether they show them or not, and they have a great impact on how, what and why we create art. However, how much of our emotions are shown through our facial expressions? How well can another read those expressions versus how well can we read that same person's of state of emotion through their art. None the less anger may result in strong gestural painting. Addition to anger any strong emotion can come through in whatever we create. History shows us that great works can come from a highly agitated state of emotion. What is the juxtaposition between the feeling in the photograph and the title. If we observe the color pallets used in the examples we can see that they inspire melancholy in the audience. Color can be pivotal when expressing your state of feelings. How much do our deeper emotions drive our creations and do we ever hold back for fear of repercussions from our audience? Are you willing to put raw emotion out there for others to judge? How would you feel about sharing that with someone else? Collaborating on a piece that is deeply involved with your feelings. Would you feel safe to express your state of feeling through a work with another. Art evokes strong feelings in those that perceive it. When we look at art our state of feeling changes depending on what you see. Feelings are a fluid experience, constantly changing throughout the day. What would happen if you recorded your state of feeling over a period of time? The picture to the left is of the National Geographic's Girl with the Green Eyes. • 25. The Process Of A Counselling Relationships The process involved in establishing a counselling relationships includes many factors to ensure that a client feels safe and comfortable with a counsellor to explore his or her feelings with them. The counsellor must offer a clean, uncluttered, protected environment with no distractions and is safe from others hearing the conversations, and greet the client in a friendly welcoming manner. The room which the counselling takes place can have a great influence on the relationship so make sure it is welcoming and relaxing. The counsellor must build rapport with the client for the client to trust them and allow free flow of information. Rapport is the sense of connecting with someone. It is something that builds up over time by showing the client they can trust the counsellor and made to feel comfortable. As a counsellor/client relationship, although not friends it is important to highlight common interests between them, be empathetic and develop understanding. The client will unconsciously notice similarities and start to feel in tune with the counsellor. To build rapport with a client a counsellor can – – Offer a clean, uncluttered, safe–environment with no interruptions or distractions – Revise key notes before and after session to remember issues, names of partner etc., (forgetting things like this that are important to the client can damage the relationship) – Remain in a professional manner regardless of issue or behaviour – Don't be judgemental as rapport can be effected ... • 29. The Importance Of Personal Counseling In Nursing A patient on the nursing unit had a right knee replacement, and the patient is post–operative day two. The patient did not complain of pain, but the staff could tell that the patient was in pain because the patient would grimace when she was moved. The patient's sister was also present at the bedside, and the sister would answer for the patient majority of the times. After the sister left in the afternoon, the patient's own personality started to shine, and a better relationship was gained with the patient because she was able to express her own needs. This event was a significant event in the ways of knowing because the patient had a quiet voice when the sister was present, but when the sister left, the patient developed her own voice. Personal knowing is important in this situation because it allows nurses to actually listen to what the patient is saying to develop a therapeutic relationship with the patient (Fawcett, Watson, Neuman, Walker, & Fitzpatrick, 2001). Overall, the therapeutic relationship was not completely built until after the patient's sister left, and the patient's own voice was heard. During this situation, feelings were mutual because the patient was becoming frustrated with the sister because the sister was not allowing the patient to be her true self. There was a gut feeling by the nurses that the sister was overbearing to the sister because she would not let the patient answer for herself most of the time, so the nurses decided that it would ... • 33. Peer Couseling Refleciton Paper Coming from prior experience of having to go to counseling as a teenager, being a client in a peer counseling was acceptable and familiar. The experience within the session in class was sufficient enough to help deal with a particular problem I had been going through and wanted to search for a possible resolution or change towards the problem for the near future. Though I did not know the helper personally, I had known the helper through another sports team, and being friends within the class helped with being comfortable talking about an issue within my own respective sport. Going into the session being both athletes at the University of Maryland was comforting due to understanding where we both were coming from. The helper concentrated working through each of the different skills through the 3–stage model learned throughout the entire semester to help with my particular issue within the training staff. I noticed her help and focus of wanting to guide through my initial emotions of the situation, moving towards providing advice and insight about the problem, and lastly providing possible recommendations and solutions towards confronting the issue at hand. It felt good and promising receiving possible solutions on how to work through the problem for any future issues relating towards the initial problem. Listening to the helper coming from a different perspective on the issue helped see from a new perspective outside my own opinions about the problem and understanding the ... • 37. Analysis Of The Poem ' Rich 's ' Diving Into The Wreck ' RICH: 1. If you were asked to paraphrase "what happens" in the poem, what would you say? What does it mean to dive into the wreck? Taking Adrienne Rich's "Diving into the Wreck" at face value, one may literally summarize the poem by stating that an individual, hearing stories about a wrecked ship, decided to dive down to the fabled ship alone to see it for themselves and found it. However, reading between the lines, one may also feel that the poem is more than just an adventure for the narrator, but rather a personal journey as well. At the beginning of the poem, the narrator describes hearing about the wreck and preparing to visit it alone, descending the ladder and entering the water below. However, the narrator seems to feel apprehensive and a bit fearful, referring to their scuba– suit as "body–armor" (Rich 5) and describing the growing foreboding feeling as the water gets darker. But these feelings soon vanish, for the narrator comes upon the wreck, captivated by the ship's figurehead who is forever trapped at the bottom of the ocean. However, at this point in time, the narrator seems to have a sort of epiphany while engrossed by the image of the ship that is a bit difficult to describe. The narrator states, "I am she: I am he" (Rich 77) in reference to the figureheads after traveling into the ship's hold, eventually emerging from their adventure as a different person who now identifies with the forgotten, damaged, and lost articles of the ship (which may also relate ... The people around that child, and all of the surroundings really leave a huge impact on him or her. Therefore, the most important person in the classroom, the teacher, can thoroughly influence students. Teacher's can change students' lives for the better and evolve them to excel in many fields of not only academics, but also everyday life. This is precisely what the author, Nicholas Gage admitted to experience in his article "The Teacher Who Changed My Life". Gage writes about the tough childhood he faced as a new orphan that emigrated from his homeland, Greece, to the United States of America. His English teacher, Miss Hurd, was a great influence on him. She brought boundless, fantastic opportunities to Gage that later allowed him to taste the beautiful flavors of success in which he devoured. In his article, the author opts for narrative writing where he expresses his personal encounters and experiences that eventually shaped him into becoming the man he is today. He appeals to readers by narrating his story with emotion. Also, he cunningly tries to oblige readers to side with his own political conceptions. By expressing ... Now, I am going to identify essential personal learning outcomes from those events and will include personal awareness of strengths and weaknesses. Among the different models of reflection, I will use the Gibbs model of reflection which entails six stages such as description, feelings, evaluation, analysis, conclusion, action plan. Description In the past six weeks while I was on placement, I was able to critically reflect on my performance on a weekly basis. I was able to pin–point my own practises that breached the infection control protocol such as forgetting to put–on gloves when I administered intramuscular injection as well as not wearing the personal protective equipment when entering into the room for a contact precaution patient. Some situations not only gave me an opportunity to learn from others but also to seek feedback to improve my communication skills especially in providing health education to indigenous patients. Lastly, there were instances that my critical thinking was challenged and I was able to prevent an event that could endanger a patient's life by advocating for the patient. Feelings In every situation I have met, there was always a positive and some negative emotions. In The Giver, by Lois Lowry there is a community run by a chief elder and a committee of elders that create rules forcing many to take medication that keeps away feelings and relationships with others in the community. There is a lot of evidence in the text that talks about, lack of emotion, lack of choices, and lessons that will not be learned throughout life without the choices of love and having relationships. Therefore children entering puberty should not take medication to keep away feelings with another person. Children entering puberty should not take medication to keep away feelings in order to prevent loss or lack of emotion. I am approaching this journal entry in hoping I can make sense out of group and my feelings. After last session, I felt angry, misunderstood, disconnected, and untrusting of one of the leaders. After this session I feel the same, but towards both of the leaders because I felt like the other leader picked up where the first left off. I have never felt so uncomfortable with a facilitator, leader, or therapist in my 40 years of both group and individual therapy. With that said; I was impressed when one of the leaders spoke to her point of view and feelings about last week's session openly and honestly. By her doing this, it opened up empathy and compassion in my heart for her. The other leader continued to humanize both leaders by talking about their group experience together and tried to bring our group into a realm of reflection about pain and its connection to growth. Each member shared on this topic, even though it changed frequently, as I sat by and actively listened to each individual share with no intention of sharing anything that would rock the boat because I am tired of being singled out in the group. Twenty five minutes before the end of the meeting, one of the leaders (the one I don't usually have an issue with) stated that we were going to talk to Alan now. I am usually in complete control of my emotions, but to my embarrassment, I lost control of them and I cannot seem to regain control. At first, I felt shocked, when the media released the name of the shooter, I felt like someone had punched me in the stomach. I thought there was no way it could be the same person, there was no way it could be my former co–worker and friend's brother. Turns out it was. I am heartbroken for the marines who were murdered and their families who have been so heinously, irrevocably altered, but I am also heartbroken for my friend and her family. I feel guilty for the last sentiment, in light of everything, but I can help but be heartbroken for them as well. I have decided to use the self–care activity of meditation to try to process my feelings and regain some emotional control. Right now, I am in a very bad mental and emotional state; I hope that his activity will help. The meditation was extremely difficult, but I feel like I am in a better emotional state. I felt the need to lie down, so I lay on my couch and tried to meditate. It lasted a little over twenty minutes. Jack claimed that he was fit for the role of leadership several times during the early chapters of the book. Golding stated that it was between Ralph and Jack who would lead and that Jack believed he should be chosen saying, " 'I ought to be chief,' said Jack with simple arrogance, "because I'm chapter and head boy. I can sing a C charp." (22). This is where Jack lists all the reasons that he is the best selection of a chief over Ralph, he wanted to persuade the rest of the boys for their vote. Challenges Faced By Employees And Their Personal Feelings There are many challenges that supervisors face but over the years I have learned that the most import challenges are the employees and their personal feelings. Many employees have a problem balancing home and work because of the current impact of societal and demographic trends. Employees have a tendency to come to work with attitudes and take it out on the other employees. As the Program Manager at MCIA, the first thing I had to do was to be able to deal with the different personalities on a day to day basis because no matter what, as the supervisor you are always in the middle of any incident. Whether it is the perfect employee or the troubled employee your responsibility is to keep things moving on the job. Other challenges that a supervisor face are ensuring that your employees understand your expectations, establishing a positive relationship, delegating work, keeping your employees motivated, determining ways to reward employees with company guidelines and by me having a solid relationship with my manager. An employee will respect you if you set your expectations from the very beginning. The first thing I did as a supervisor was to get the position description for each employee, ensure they had a copy, read it, understood it, and set up a one on one meeting to discuss their position and my expectations. The position description contained specific duties that can lead into the expectations. If one of the duties is that you need experience in performing tasks and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 82. The Idea Of Art By Dorothy Allison The idea of art being a unique interpretation of what an artist's feels towards a particular thing has always been a given when talking about art. However, where is the line drawn on what art truly is and what it means to its audience? To do this, the idea of what art means must be applied to the idea of what art is. In Dorothy Allison's This is Our World, the author touches on points of what art is and what it means to its viewers. These points and supporting stories point to the idea that art is subjective, personal, and provocative. This allows Allison to draw her conclusion that arts purpose is to depict the deeper meaning into situations and incidents that occur in our world. In Dorothy Allison's journal, one can see how the author effectively conveys the ideas of art being personal and subjective, but fails at detailing how art can be subjective. One idea that Allison points to throughout her essay is that art is subjective, stating that every person sees art differently. While doing this she adds her ideas of what art should be, indicating that art is meant to tell a story and tell the reality of a situation. For example, Allison references a memory of her friend Jackie criticizing her black and white photos; which in Allison eyes captures the stories of the people within them, making it art (Allison). In this moment one can see how one form of art can be seen as nothing more than a common object depending on perception. Another example of this is how in the 21st ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This quite clearly connects with J.D Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye and William Shakespeare's Othello because they both have similarities based on the realism of the characters in terms of psychology. Two different books written by different authors, at different time's and both books that portray two different plots have one unique similarity. Both the central protagonists, Holden and Othello, show realistic human characteristics and emotions which makes them both equally realistic characters in terms of psychology. Although Holden and Othello have many differences from each other such as age, lifestyle, profession, and the society they live in, this understandable make them quite diverse however, in terms of psychology, both major characters that play vital roles and both characters who are the protagonists depict human characteristics and emotions which makes them both realistic characters. When characters share things, and do things that are relatable to the audience, it makes the audience connected with the characters which results in catharsis and thus, the realism in the characters are experienced in the audience through the relatability and connection. A good relationship between a counsellor and a client, ensures that at the end of the day, the therapy is successful. The whole point of showing empathy is so that the client can feel that they are being understood and their feelings shared. Without this connection, clients and counsellors will find it difficult to develop a successful relationship. The constructivism approach values all three of these equally, which is why I like it so much and believe it is so effective. By incorporating this theory, I am also considering but not focusing on the client's past, which impacts their present and future. In this approach, the helper is empowering the client to make a positive change, which is the over goal for me in this profession. If I can make a positive change in at least one clients life, I have done my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Along with a thorough understanding of what stress and burnout is, I will use a personal past experience to explain how I will develop stress–management strategies and implement them in my behaviour. Stress and Burnout: Stress is understood as the way in which a person responds to the demands, both physical and emotional, which have been placed on them. It is a reaction to change and stress can become more apparent when the requirements a situation are greater than your ability to cope. Stress is a subjective response. The resulting stress needs to be managed constructively so that healthy relationships are maintained which are valuable to my career (Gibson, Swarts and Sandenbergh 2:109). In matric I learnt how important it is that you don't let stress negatively affect your life such as causing depression and reduced concentration (Gibson, Swarts and Sandenbergh 2:106). I have learnt how stress can develop into burnout and the consequences of this which have been outlined in defining burnout. Knowing how to prevent burnout is critical in my career as a future IHP. Each day of work will revolve around dealing with people's problems which can accumulate and cause emotional strain (Ross & Deverell, 2004:304). • 126. Gloria Anzaldua How To Tame A Wild Tongue Summary In "How to Tame a Wild Tongue," Gloria Anzaldua discloses her true feelings about societal and cultural imbalances encountered by minorities by successfully utilizing pathos. Based on historical context, Gloria Anzaldua was raised in the 1940s in the south where racial discrimination was more prevalent than in most parts of the United States. She reveals that Latin Americans, in spite of their distinct languages, are coerced to forgo their heritage and conform to Anglo society. Language, which is taken for granted here in the United States, is fervently cherished by Anzaldua, expressing "I am my language" (39). Anzaldua produces her argument by utilizing her past experiences as a multicultural female living on the border between conflicting cultures and languages, and describes how she and thousands of others are being looked down upon for being a minority and for speaking their foreign tongues. Anzaldua opens her literary work with a narrative of the dentist where she includes the quote, "And I think, how do you tame a wild tongue, train it to be quiet, how do you bridle and saddle it?" (34) to introduce the concept of the wild tongue and how this idea applies to her both literally and symbolically. The tongue, representing her linguistic traditions, is being threatened by society who is pressuring her to forgo her culture. By incorporating a comparable and connecting experience, Anzaldua strongly utilizes the rhetorical strategy of pathos because she provides her readers with a perspective of a person who has experienced this "taming" of a "wild tongue" firsthand, evoking a sense of empathy within her readers. Being proud of one's culture and language can often diminish when immigrating to a new country, but the author refuses the rejection of her culture, and most especially her tongue. She captivates the audience by providing a personal experience of when she was attacked for correcting her name, "If you want to be American, speak 'American.' If you don't like it, go back to Mexico where you belong" (34). By including an anecdote packed with emotional stimuli, Anzaldua causes us to experience empathy for her and other minorities who are regarded as outsiders in a place they call "home." She ... By; Getahun Seyoum Psychology Springbrook April 2015 Jones 3469 words Abstract For centuries psychologists and scientists have debated whether there was a nurture versus nature aspect in how humans developed their ability to express emotion. A person's capability to express emotion is thought to develop with your personality from birth to five years of age but others believe that a person's genetic makeup forms your ability to show emotion. Body: 19th century theorists..........................................................................................4 conclusion......................................................................................................1 Work cited.....................................................................................................11 Introduction Philosophers and psychologists identify emotion as something you gain through many experiences you go through. There were many theories that were developed by scientist and psychologists throughout the centuries that express their beliefs on how emotion is developed. Seventeenth– century English philosopher John Locke described a young child 's mind as a "tabula rasa" (blank slate) upon which the child 's experiences are recorded. A child at a young age can be easily impacted or influenced by anything that is going on around them and the way instances are perceived and responded to can affect the way the child is going to act in the future because there isn't much. An eighteenth–century philosopher Jean–Jacques Rousseau also argued that "human development was primarily a function of experience". He believed in the existence of a natural, unspoiled state of humankind that is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 135. This Way To The Gas versus On My First Son Essay The short story, "This Way To The Gas, Ladies And Gentlemen" by Tadeusz Borowski and the poem "On My First Son" by Ben Johnson, both deal with death. They are very different types of death and are told in different ways but through some similar approaches, a similar feeling is portrayed to the reader of each. One of the first similarities of the two is that they are both told in the first person as well as being personal accounts. Ben speaks, as himself, about the death of his son and Borowski tells of events at a death camp that he was in during WWII. They both tell their stories through their own voices which adds a lot to the experience of reading. It allows the reader to except just how real the story is. Once the reader accepts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The realness and intimacy that the first–person voice gives us makes the reader more able to relate and understand the feelings and ideas being expressed. Both authors also set a mood with their writing to help the reader understand their feelings on the deaths occurring around them. Borowski set a mood that showed the numbness he developed surrounding death through his descriptions of the events occurring at the station. "The whip flies, the woman screams, stumbles, and falls under the feet of the surging crowd. Behind her, a child cries in a thin little voice 'Mamele!'–a very small girl with black tangled curls." (Borowski, 115) This quote seems almost as though Borowski is writing a report about the incident. Actions are simply listed. There is no obvious written feeling in it, even though what is being described is horrible. This shows his numbness to sights of horror and death. Johnson uses mood to show his view on death, which is much more sorrowful and passionate. "Farewell, thou child of my right hand, and joy; My sin was too much hope of thee, loved boy." (Johnson, ln1–2) These lines clearly set a mood of grief. Its expressed through the choice of words, like "Farewell", and phrases like "too much hope of thee, loved boy". There is one major difference surrounding death in the two pieces. Both authors have a different outcome on the way they view deaths. Borowski only remains numb to deaths for a small time. • 139. My Personal Feelings of Self Worth Essay People's self–esteem either high or low is shaped by their life experiences. I believe a person's self– esteem begins to take shape at an early age, with their parents being a major influence. Kind, positive, knowledgeable and caring parents help children create a positive self–image. Parents who do not feel good about themselves or others, sometimes take it out on their childern by belittling them or discouraging them. This leads the child down a path of self–doubt and eventually given the right circumstances a lower self–esteem. My parents where very overprotective which sounds good on the surface, but this caused me to feel unequal to my peers since my parents would not let me play sports or even go on a field trip one time because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If that was not enough to deal with, I also have red hair and freckles so I was constantly teased about my appearance. All this contributed to my own lack of self–confidence and a feeling that I was not as good as my peers. These are some experiences that have shaped my self–esteem. I do not portend to make excuses for myself; I only want to illustrate that you can let these experiences either motivate you or de– motivate you, the choice is always yours. I let these life experiences de–motivate until I came to the realization that you should not let others determine your fate or what you can achieve. Years ago I read a passage in a book by: "Louise L. Hay" she said; every morning you can get up and look in the mirror and decide what kind of day you are going to have." The beauty of it is, you can get up the following morning and decide all over again. This is a powerful statement, letting us know we have the power to control our feelings and shape our outlook on life. If you are telling yourself positive things, it will help you build a positive self–esteem. Example: Not long ago a golfer on the PGA Tour, was having trouble with his putting, he was losing confidence, it was starting to effect his whole game and his self–esteem since even the TV Announcers, where talking about his putting troubles. He choose to start telling himself that he was a great putter of the golf ball and in a short ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 143. The Consequence-Undoing Sanity By Louis Uchitelle In Psychology Today, research has shown that the more roles people fill, the more sources of self– esteem they have. Meaningful work has long been one of the most important ways to feel good about oneself. With either no work environment at all or an unhealthy one, a person's self–esteem can go down tremendously. The hard–working community must face the terrifying fact that their identity is so highly linked to their job. Failure to maintain a job or fulfill a days' worth of work connects with their personal emotions which then can result in low self–esteem, self–loathing, or depression. Having a job that meets personal satisfaction can boost one's self–esteem but when this job is taken away, feelings start to change. The article "The Consequence–Undoing Sanity" by Louis Uchitelle, describes a slump that many people in our country are currently in. It shows one individual's struggle after being laid off from a job. Erin, Stacy's husband, lost all feeling when he was laid off from his job that he started right out of college, his wife somehow thought he lost part of his identity. Stacy describes in the article, "I think the layoff destroyed his self–esteem" (Uchitelle 342). Having low esteem can truly impact one's life just like it has with Erin. Erin is impacted by the depressed feelings of losing his job that his work ethics have changed, and he is not putting in his full effort. Uchitelle expressed how Erin's wife feels about her husband's change in demeanor, "She doubted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is a feeling of empathy, which in other words is to feel someone's pain as though if it were our own. The book "Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life" by Karen Armstrong, discusses a set of different steps people should follow in order to be compassionate. Armstrong emphasizes in the importance of compassion in the world. The world is surrounded with problems that we do not know how to solve and by being compassionate to one another we can create a compassionate and peaceful world. Every person in this earth has the possibility to be compassionate to others and this includes treating each other a they wish to be treated, which in most cases is with dignity, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As stated before, some of the steps to take into consideration are steps one and three, which are to learn more about compassion and to have compassion for ourselves. Nevertheless, step seven, how little we know is another of the crucial steps to create a change in our value system. This step consists of understanding that we are not always right. There are a lot of problems that need to be solved in our lives therefore we must examine our ideas by understanding how little we know. It is a good and important beginning because people are able to listen to one another. Thinking e know it all only blocks our knowledge and immediately pushes us backwards. Thinking we know more than other people only creates a feeling of superiority. Giving people the opportunity to speak their thought while listening to them, leads to respect for others and respect for ourselves, which is a wonderful opportunity. Armstrong refers to this step as a step that helps people to become wiser. For instance, Armstrong said that a person might think they know something when they don't, and someone that does not know it or even think they know it have a higher possibility of becoming wiser (p. 99). They are more likely to become wiser because they are open minded where as the other person is blocking all the other ideas because he thinks he is superior to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
