Over The Many Years Pigs Have Developed And Evolved Into
Over the many years pigs have developed and evolved into what they are today, 30 differing species of exotic and wild hogs that we know today, all
around the planet. Wild pigs, even though not native to America still pose and ecological and economic risk to the nation. Feral swine, as descendants
from domestic pigs, still pose considerable challenges in population control efforts. (Ditch off 2007, P. 149) Through strict wildlife management plans,
monitoring and follow through actions, we can work to strike an advantageous balance with these invasive invertebrates. Feral Hogs also referred to as
there other classical names; feral swine, free roaming pigs, wild boar, wild hog, razorback, and its systematic Latin name, Sus scrofa are an ... Show

(Sleeman 2012) All of the initial Eurasian wild boars were released on fenced properties, later, some escaped there confinement, resulting in more wild
pigs throughout the environment. (Mayer and Brisbin, 2008). The life cycle of these animals entails many characteristics including disease, predation
and even mortality by means of hunters. The free roaming pig population of the U.S. is at an estimated 4 million. The reproductive strategy of wild hogs
predominantly in the southeastern U.S. is considered very aggressive with high frequencies, intervals and offspring.
Species Description Feral Hogs are a species that evolved in a relatively short period of time on the North American Continent. Even though there
genetics are very similar if in most cases are the same to domesticated swine, there are noticeable differences. Feral swine over the current
domesticated pig have will have blackish brown color, with grizzled guard hairs, a mane of hair , 8–16 cm long, running dorsally from the neck to the
backend, a straight heavily tufted tail, and ears covered with hair. (NSRL 2016) Even though the physical attributes of these wild boars differ greatly
from their counterparts, the characteristics of feral hogs are still very much varied, depending upon the breed of the ancestral stock. European wild
hogs and feral hogs interbreed readily, with traits of European wild hogs apparently being

The Jungle By Upton Sinclair Essay
Primary Source: "The Jungle" By Upton Sinclair
The Jungle by Upton Sinclair was written to expose the brutality faced by the workers in the meatpacking industry. Sinclair wanted to show people
what was really going on in the factory because few people were informed about these companies work conditions. He wanted to show the public that
meat was " diseased, rotten, and contaminated" (Willie)." This revelation shocked the, public which later led to the creation of the federal laws on food
and safety. Sinclair strongly shows the failure of capitalism in the meatpacking industry which he viewed as inhumane, destructive, unjust, brutal, and
violent (Willie)." Sinclair was an American writer born in Baltimore. He was struggling to live a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before Henry Ford adapted the automobile production, they had developed an assembly line. It worked more like a disassembly line because there
were 80 separate jobs in one line in the whole process of getting the meat ready. The immigrants did the most dangerous jobs, they worked in cold
weather in the winter and the hot dark room in the summer (Willie)." People have no idea what occurs in the canning room at Durham's. The chemists
advertise mushroom catsup. In reality, the men who made these don't even know what they look like. They would put animal 's body parts that humans
wouldn 't eat into the cans. " "De–vyled" ham was made out of the waste ends of smoked beef that was too small to be sliced by the machines; also
tripe, dyed with chemicals so, that it would not show white . Finally the hard cartilaginous gullets of beef, after the tongues, had been cut out"
(Sinclair)." mixing all these animal parts they created a new mixture which tasted like something, then sold it which would earn them a great amount
of wealth. They gave cows tuberculous to make them gain weight quickly. They were putting the horses in the canned food, later banned the practice
because the newspaper exposed them. Now it is against the law (Sinclair)." There were many interesting facts about peoples ' work conditions. Many
of the things they made were from dead bodies of animals.

Chapter Summary: A Brave New World
The monks came running into the kitchen in their nightshirts. Dom Bernard calmly issued orders. The four sitting at the table were ordered to stand.
Four of the monks sat at the table with the bread, cheese, and beer in front of them. The pounding and yelling continued. Dom Bernard ordered
CГ©dric and Dorian to take Saban and Elisaveta to the cellar. "There are several large barrels by the wine racks. CГ©dric you know where they are."
CГ©dric nodded. "The ones with the spigot were designed for hiding. They contain a small amount of wine below a floor, leaving the remainder of the
barrel empty. Hide in there and hold the lids tightly closed. Now go! I must open the door. Oh, and do not forget Saban's shoe. " Saban had his arm

Dom Bernard had the monks help the four climb out of the barrels. It took some time before they could walk without joint pain. Meanwhile, Dom
Bernard asked Dom Rombout what happened in the cellar. "Well Dom Bernard, while I was sitting at the table I overheard you say the visitors
were to hide in the barrels. When you and the soldier passed the kitchen, I followed you to the cellar with a candle in case you needed more light. I
stayed out of the way but saw the soldier put the glass on top of the barrel. After you and the soldiers went upstairs, I walked over to the barrel and
was reaching for the glass to take it upstairs to wash when the lid rose and the glass slid off and broke. The lid immediately closed and, well, you
know the rest." "So whoever was in the barrel opened the lid?" "Yes, it would seem so. They must not have known the glass was on top." Dom
Bernard put his hands on Dom Rombout's shoulders. "You saved us. Thank you." "The hand of God guided me. I am sure of it," said Dom Rombout

Pros And Cons Of Pork Barrel Reform
One day, in Arizona, the citizens wanted a law to change. They wanted to be able to wear suspenders so they asked to change a law. None of them
wanted a rider because they were scared that it would change the entire bill. Because of that, they prayed that the bill will become a law without any
riders. In the Congress, the incumbent did not like the law. Since a lot of people from the Congress looks up at the incumbent, they changed their
minds and did not accept the law. The bill then ends up as a pigeon hole. The incumbent then states: "If you want me to change my mind, you need to
add a pork barrel legislation." The citizens are very mad and decide to start lobbying. After a few months, they finally convince the members of the

A Day Keeps The Cancer Away
Death. It's probably one of the things we are most afraid of. We're scared of losing our loved ones. We're scared of leaving the ones we care most
about alone. Unfortunately, death isn't something that we can control. However, we can prolong it for as much as possible. We all know the
saying, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away", but what if I said, "Less bacon a day keeps the cancer away". If you aren't up to date, author, Jeffrey
Kluger, has recently released an article in TIME Magazine that ultimately talks about how bacon and other meats could be held responsible for
causing cancer, specifically colorectal cancer (2015). America's favorite breakfast food, bacon, seems to be a prime suspect in this case. However,
bacon isn't alone in this. Hot dogs and other red meats are under suspicion as well. So what can we do? Well, we could go cold–turkey, but that doesn't
solve anything. Instead, we need to be smarter about the decisions we make when eating our meat, in order for us to live a healthier lifestyle. Although
I'm in no position to tell you what you should do and shouldn't do, that doesn't mean I can't give you a couple of tips. Before going into detail about
what tips I can give you, first let's understand why we should be smarter about the meat we eat. According to Kluger, "In the case of processed meats,
the biggest risks are sodium nitrates, which are added to foods principally as preservatives. Once they enter the body, however, they form nitrosamines,

My Favorite Experience
We get to know the people around us, what their personality is like, what they like to do, how they live, how they smell, and what their food tastes
like off the ground. I personally enjoy the red, juicy meat which usually comes between two buns. While I try and talk to Sarah, my owner, my tongue
doesn't allow it. My day mostly consists of sitting, sleeping, chasing after the Gerald, the cat, waiting for Sarah to get home and sometimes I am able
to get into this metal can in the kitchen with multitudes of heavenly treats; however, there is this thing, it sits on the right side of the porch on the back
of the house, Sarah turns it on and she starts cooking. Horrible things come out of it; Smoke, fire, steaming hot objects, and worse Sarah even stands
near it.
Besides that disgusting object on the porch. Sarah's house is fantastic. Plenty of couches to sit on, Huge televisions, and plenty of places to go to the
bathroom. My favorite spot is right outside Sarah's room for two reasons. First, Sarah is usually there when she's home, and it's the furthest place from
the Gerald's lair. I only go to the bathroom there because I miss Sarah during the day.
It's a hot day inside Sarah's house. I sit in the living room in the first floor, to hide from the flaming hot object in the sky and to avoid Gerald. As I start
drifting into a restless nap. I hear a familiar voice. "Meow" says Gerald
"What did you say?" I ask. At first, I did not understand Gerald, it sounded like a chain of

Informative Speech About Oktoberfest
OUTLINE WORKSHEET: Speech to Inform From beer steins, to tractors, to a week's' worth of bad decisions. This is Oktoberfest. How unique a
festival it may be, you have to wonder where it all started. Believe it or not, but this festival has been an ongoing tradition for the last 200 years.
Started in the early 1800's it originates in Germany. This manic event has leaped across continents and has become a very engrossed tradition of the
United States. Oktoberfest might just look like a drunk friend get together from an outsider... and it is... but beyond the beer its history brings it a
whole new prospective, marking in a strong community, and breaking records as the largest international festival in the world. Oktoberfest is like a
fine beer, made with cautious precision, and aged appropriately, only to share with all your friends once finally ready to taste!
(Transition into body of speech)
II. Body
A. Main point #1 All fine beer is aged in a wooden barrel and kept in a deep dark cellar. Fermentation takes time, and in order to capture that defined
taste it has to have a history. Like a fine barrel of beer Oktoberfest has history and it all started roughly 200 years ago in the city of Munich.
According to "History in Context" it was the 12th of October 1810 and this guy known as Prince Ludwig of Bavaria got hitched to this gal, Princess
Therese of Saxony–Hildburghausen (say that ten times fast). Anyway these two thought they were so great they needed to have this giant

Food Inc. Summary Essay
Food Inc. opens in an American supermarket and draws attention to the unnatural nature of year–round tomatoes and boneless meat. It pulls aside the
curtain that is concealing the truth about food from the consumer. After the brief intro, the movie shifts its focus to the topic of fast food and its impact
on the meat industries. Fast food virtually started with McDonald's. When they decided to simplify their menu and hire employees that repeated one
task over and over for minimum wage, the result was the fast food phenomenon that swept the United States, and then the world. Today, McDonald's is
the largest purchaser of beef and potatoes in the United States, and is one of the largest purchasers of pork, chicken, tomatoes, and apples. Though ...

Corn is the number one grain used to feed animals for slaughter. Feeding cows corn instead of their natural diet lead to the unintentional creation of
157H7 E. coli, a deadly bacteria that can kill. The film reveals how food standards have dropped, with only 9,164 safety inspections from the FDA
each year as compared to over 50,000 in 1972. The food industry has become consolidated to the point of a few companies having a great deal of
power and influence via the government. The USDA is no longer able to shutdown plants with contaminated meat. A bill titled "Kevin's Law" had the
intent of changing that, but, after 6 years, the bill still has not been passed. Food companies have made some attempts to reduce E. coli by cleaning
their meats in an ammonia solution. However, unhealthy food is being subsidized and contributing to American obesity and the rise of type 2 diabetes
in adolescents. The film then travels to a hog processing plant that kills 32,000 hogs a day. They expose the strategy of the company to hire extremely
poor and illegal immigrants who can't afford to quit their jobs, despite problems with frequent infections of the hands and fingernails, a side effect of
poor sanitation standards. We then discover that it has been legal to patent life since the 1980s, and learn about the company Monsanto's round up
resistant soybean that now makes up 90% of the soybean market. Monsanto

1) Suppose that a peak harvest–season day involves 18,000 barrels of berries, 70% of them wet harvested, arriving uniformly over a twelve–hour period
from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and process initiates as soon as the first truck arrives.
a) At what time during the day, would the trucks start queuing up to upload?
Answer: – Trucks carrying wet berries will have to wait to unload during the day because the incoming arrival rate is 1050 is greater than processing
rate 600. The Trucks arriving with dry berries will not have to wait as processing is greater than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The predicted increase in the wet berries growth to 70% will increase the overtime issues as the dryer is the bottle neck in the process and wet berries
require going through this step.
There is also a secondary problem regarding grading of process berries. Half of the berries graded top quality is actually not top quality and do not
deserve extra premiums paid on the top quality berries. This is due to the inefficient quality assessment method.
The waiting of the Trucks can be reduced by adding an extra storage bin (converting the bins to be used for both wet and dry berries) to the system.
The other reason for the increased wait time is that the processing at the plant starts at 11:00 am whereas the trucks start delivering at 7:00am due to
which the trucks have to wait for a longer time. So the working shift should be change to 7:00 am instead of 11:00 am. This will effectively decrease
the wait time of the berries. This will also eliminate the need of adding the extra storage to the system as the process will start as soon as the deliveries
start eliminating the berry stock build up. Scheduling and holding capacities will not work if we cannot dry the berries. By adding two additional
driers, NCC will be able to dry 400 barrels per hour of wet berries decreasing the bottleneck.

The Ethics Of The Bridge
Ethics:
The bridge we have created is ethical in the sense that it has a dependable purpose relative to its location, and its uses. By implementing a floating
bridge, in a non–linear terrain in the city of Champong Chnnang it allows for effective, and efficient commute between two villages. This idea allows
for the saving of time and money, by not implementing a less efficient method of transportation and trade between the two villages. THIS ISN'T
GOOD ENOUGH, LET EDWARD ADD SHIT TO THIS TOO.
Sustainable Design:
The bridge has a very well designed 'sustainability' concept, relying on upcycled materials to complete the bridge. These upcycled materials consist of
the wood, the fishing net, the oil barrels and the plastic shielding for the barrels. These materials can be used for functional roles in the design, such
as platforms, floatation, safety lines across hand rails, and so on. The bridge's sustainability concept can be further supported by the ease of replacing
materials, and not throwing them in the bin. The materials such as wood, plastic and pieces of metallic bolts and nuts can be recycled and reused for
other purposed such as furniture, storage or completely recycled back into a molten form for the metallic objects.
Lifecycle Analysis:
Before
Wood: The wood used in the project will be locally sourced, to reserve costs of importation. The wood will start in the surrounding rainforests of the
lakes. After chopping down sufficient trees the wood will be cut into

3 berries should actually be graded No. 2B The installation of a berry grader would positively impact the cooperative's income, while negatively
impacting the farmers' income. With the current system, 450,000 bbls. of berries are paid a premium of 50 cents per bbl, yet when the berries are
used only about half of them are actually considered No. 3's (berries with the best color). So basically, the cooperative is paying a premium on
225,000 bbls. more than it should be, and that worked out to about $112,500 in 1970. It would cost the cooperative $10,000 to install a berry grader,
plus the cost of another full–time skilled operator, but it would still impact their income greatly. The farmers' would probably prefer that the
cooperative continue to grade the color using pictures as a guide, because they are being paid a 50 cent premium on about half of their No. 3 berries
that should actually be considered No. 2B. Calculations: 450,000 bbls. divided by 50% equals 225,000 bbls. 225,000 bbls. at 50 cent each is equal to
$112,500 per year Fixed cost: $10,000 for installation of berry grader 3. What is the impact of installing one new dryer? Two new dryers? п‚· Each

The Human Rights Of The United States
From the beginning of time the excessive desire for money and power of the few has led to stepping on and taking away the basic human rights of
the masses. From the slaves of the ancient days to the under paid of today. The working man has hungered not just to live pay check to pay check,
but to live comfortably after putting in a good days work. To be able to go to the hospital over work related and non–work related injuries without
spending the rest of their lives in debt. To work in decent conditions where the demand for speed and mass production is set at a reasonable pace. In the
meat industry it has been a century long war to win basic human rights. In the 1950's butchers and slaughterhouse workers made decent wages that
could support their families. Things shifted when companies started getting too big wanting larger and larger profits with lower and lower production
costs. The worker is then treated the same as the animal to be slaughtered. In order to affect change the working masses organized. Uniting under one
cause against the evil of corporate greed.
When cattle first came to America with the Europeans it was a simpler time. The cattle were set lose to graze in the forests and slaughtered as needed.
In the 1800's livestock started becoming more and more domesticated. They were breed, raised to work the fields, and sold or traded as needed with
the local community. As town populations grew larger so did the need for commercial butchers. Cows were slaughtered as

The Extreme Expansion Of The Meat Industry
Today the industries are now dominated by a handful of huge corporations that process most of the country's meat at several facilities across the
country. As of 2007, four huge companies controlled the processing of over 80% of the country's beef and three of these same companies process over
60% of the country's pork. Chicken processing provides over half the country's chicken supply and even the same situation exists for turkey meat. These
four major companies are Tyson, JBS, Cargill, and Smithfield Foods. As a result of all, meatpacking companies have become increasingly powerful,
while the government bodies that regulate them have done barely anything to keep them in line. The extreme expansion of the meat industry has

We do not want another family to have to suffer as our family did." Other diseases like Salmonella and Campylobacter can also be introduced. In
addition to these food safety risks, the use of hazardous machinery and sharp knives can injure workers when mistakes are made. This danger is
exacerbated by the increasingly rapid speeds at which workers are expected to slaughter and process animals. This can also cause AIDS and HIV
when they come in contact with our foods, if workers get injured while processing meats. The Federal health authorities have estimated that foodborne
diseases affect 1 in 6 Americans, which is over 48 million people. These diseases cause 128,000 hospitalizations and kill 3,000 Americans every year.

contamination are caused by the crowded conditions in which conventional food animals are raised, as well as the high speed at which meat is

plants slaughtered about 175 cattle an hour, but due to increased line speeds, today plants can slaughter as many as 400 cattle per hour. In order to

Red Meat Research Paper
crowleys.butchery.com.au – The Nutritional Values of Red Meat
Red meat is full of all sorts of nutrients that are beneficial for the growth and health of the human body. The definition of this meat at least in Australian
terms is the meat that comes from cattle, goat and sheep. It does not include meat from such animals as pigs, kangaroo, chickens, turkey and buffalo.
When you purchase red meat, you will notice that it contains lean or muscle tissue along with fat tissue, which can be both throughout the lean tissue as
marbling or around the outside of the particular cut of meat. A butcher typically trims off this excess fat to ensure the cut is as lean as possible.
Protein Content
The protein content of red meat ranges from 20g up to 36g per 100g, depending on whether it is raw or cooked. During the cooking processes, nutrients
in this meat become more concentrated, thus, the increase of protein per 100g of cooked red meat. In addition, this type of protein is more easily
digestible than certain vegetarian sources of protein are in the human body. Along with being such a rich source of protein, this meat's protein also
provides all the essential amino acids, namely lysine, methionine, threonine, tryptophan, phenylalanine, isoleucine, leucine and valine. ... Show more

Straight Line-Personal Narrative
Although, Straight Line was hurt, I refused to give up, I endlessly searched to locate a replacement horse. Thus came Princess, a buckskin mare
that I borrowed from an acquaintance of my sisters. My mother and I traveled to Goodland for a little test run and at the end of the day we hauled
her home. Thrilled is not a word I would use to describe the idea of running on her, but what choice did I have. I needed a horse, any horse to ride
at the finals, since Straight Line was no longer able to run. Princess and my personalities clashed, there is only room for one princess and I already
occupied that position. Trust me when I say that typically mares have bigger attitudes, than most teenage girls. Even though, I gave it my best shot,
considering my situation, we just could not find a rhythm together. Despite of my efforts, I knew it was going to be a long week as I unsaddled her
after the worst practice that I had ever had. Consequently, I remember walking to the barn from the arena and feeling the blood run down my leg
from clobbering the barrels. I had bruises, all up and down my legs, from plowing into barrels during our one and only practice. Finals were

Should Pork Processed Pork Be Banned?
Pork is processed by transporting the hogs to a slaughterhouse or pork packing plants, individuals are still able to process their own pork if they
would like but is not very common. In 2013 there were 606 of these USDA inspected slaughter houses for pork, with 12 of these plants making up
over half of the hogs slaughtered in a calendar year (Giamalva 2014, 22). The top 5 packing facilities of 2015 based on their estimated daily slaughter
capacity (determined by head per day) are: Smithfield (115,000), JBS (89,800), Tyson Foods (IBP) (80,950), Hormel (36,800), and Triumph Foods
(21,500) (U.S. Packing 2016). Pork processing can involve the before mentioned slaughter houses along with a firm that will further process the
carcass meat. Many of these large packing plants also double as companies that will further utilize the pork into a processed pork product. For
example Tyson Foods owns the brand name processed foods such as: Jimmy Dean, Hillshire Farm, Sara Lee, Ball Park, Bonici, and many more.
Hogs must be slaughtered to obtain a product from the animal; neither the milk nor fibers are collected from a hog, making their profit for human

The Effects Of The BP Oil Spill
The BP oil spill happened on April 10th at approximately 11:50 am of the year 2010. The BP oil spill is one of the largest spills in the history of
the U.S. and one of the largest unintentional spills in history. The oil in which was spilled was in the Gulf of Mexico. The spill did not only harm the
environment, but 11 lives were taken in total from the spill. It took 87 days to clean up most of the oil.
The minimum penalty was $1,100 per barrel, while the maximum was $3,000 per barrel. The total price paid for the minimum was $5.39 billion, and
the max was $14.7 billion. Although, some argued that the rate should have been as high as $4,300 per barrel. If that were the case, then it would
be $21.07 billion. The settlement amount that was eventually paid was at a lower amount of $18.7 billion. The percent of the maximum fine that
was paid was 89%. In order to get the percentage, you need to divide 18.7 billion by 21.07 billion and that equals 0.887, then round it to 89. Then,
when you want to get the final amount, you have to add the highest and lowest terms and divide by two. So as the equations go, it would be $21.07
billion + $18.7 billion = $39.77 billion / 2 = $19.9 billion. The mid–range to the final amount of $18.7 billion, is $19.9 billion.
The price of the settlement at $18.7 billion was in fact too low. If you look at the number of people and animals affected by the spill, it is justified
asking for a higher amount from BP oil company. Taking into consideration

Why We Should Eat Pork
It seems clear that, there are various different reasons why we consume pork and many people would feel that all these reasons are enough to justify
and explain its consumption. This could be down to the nutritional value of the meat, the idea that if we didn't eat pigs then they wouldn't exist in the
first place and the philosophical views on the consumption of meat in the first place. However, my research has also shown that there are many
reasons why people feel we should not eat pork. The next section of my essay will look into the arguments against the consumptions of pork and the
reasons for this view.
Why we should not eat pork

The researchers also found that it's possible to train pigs and teach them different talents, such as jumping hoops, bowing and playing video games as
well as being able to learn routines quickly. Many other scientists have also shown that pigs are highly intelligent, for example , 'We have shown that
pigs share a number of cognitive capacities with other highly intelligent species such as dogs, chimpanzees, elephants, dolphins, and even humans, '
said neuroscientist Lori Marino of Emory University . It was also discovered that pigs can understand basic symbolic language and learn multiple
signs for actions as well as placing coloured pig–shaped blocks in the correct coloured holes on a wooden board. They found that the pig can do this
using its mouth and on its own. The Discovery News has also reported that, 'pigs have complex social networks, with them often learning from one
another and cooperating together.'
Lastly, researchers in the Netherlands carried out an experiment to understand the behaviours of pigs in more depth. The experiment went as follows:
pigs were placed in 16 groups of six, two of the pigs in each of the groups were trained to expect either happiness or distress. This was done by
playing them music and either rewarding them with a treat such as chocolate raisins, or putting them in a stressful situation, such as keeping them in
isolation in a small pen. After that, untrained pigs were added to a

Oil Shortages And Its Effects
Oil Shortages and its Effects Oil is considered as one of the most important chemical substances on earth that have greatly affected our lives. For
the past years, countries have been using oil extensively since it has a lot of benefits and many uses. Oil has been used a lot in the past years,
whether people were using it for personal uses such as for their cars or transportation companies using it for the sake of their vehicles. There are two
types of oil conventional oil and synthetic oil, each type has its different uses. Conventional oil is a mixture of mainly pentanes and heavier
hydrocarbons that are extracted from an underground reservoir and liquid at atmospheric pressure and temperature, this allows the oil to flow through
a pipeline without processing. Conventional oil can be used for many things, but one of the most important uses is for a vehicle. Synthetic oil is a
lubricant made up from chemical compounds which are artificial. Synthetic oil is also used for vehicles. For the past years countries have been using
conventional oil extensively and soon the world will have supply shortages of oil which will have many negative effects on our lives. Some of the
effects include increased debt defaults, rising interest rates, rising unemployment, disruption of exporting oil, more recession to happen, and drop in
market value of bonds. Conventional oil has been used a lot in the past decades and for many reasons, unfortunately the world is running out of

How The Pig Farming Industry Affects Our Environment
The hog farming industry has always been one of controversy when it comes to its effects on the environment, and with the green house gas emissions
a pig farm produces and the spread of disease through swine this is with good reason. Although the truth is that the industry has come a very long way
in the past 50 years in regards to its sustainability. Thepig farming industry as a whole has been able to reduce its overall environmental impact and
natural resources use by 50% in the past 50 years according to a study done by Garth Boyd a well known researcher on environmental footprints
(Boyd). Even with the improvements made by the pig farming industry there is still a need for change and major improvement in sustainable practices.
First I will discuss how the pig farming industry effects our environment. Although it is true a pig farm needs water and land to operate, the use of
those natural resources is not the major problem with pig farms. It is what goes in the air that is of concern. The pig manure and the decomposition
of the manure over time release three major gases of concern, methane, ammonia, and hydrogen sulfide. There are other gaseous compounds that may
be emitted from decomposing manure but these three are the principal gases in emissions. The level of emissions released by a farm will vary based
on the amount of manure being managed as well as the type of manure management system the farm has in place. Flush pit with lagoon, deep pig with

Pork : A Central Role Diet And Culture Of The Chinese The...
Pork plays a central role in diet and culture of the Chinese–the world's largest consumers of pork. In Chinese, and Cantonese specifically in my case, no
distinction is made between the word "meat" and "pork"–they are one and the same. As the Chinese's socioeconomic status continues to rise, so does
their demand for meat. To adapt to the ever growing demand, China's meat industry has changed a lot in the past few decades. From a state of rationing
the limited supply of meat to only urban citizens, China has now become the largest meat–producing country in the world. Prior to 2007, China had
been able to maintain self–sufficiency in pork production; however, since 2007, China's pork imports have had an annual growth rate of 150%. The
Chinese's growing appetite for pork and other meat products has affected the Chinese agricultural community greatly, with the shift from the traditional
small–scale farmer to the mass production of swine by large corporations. The effects of the Chinese appetite for pork is not contained within China's
borders; China's shift to dependency on pork imports have implications for international trade. China is no longer self–sufficient when it comes to pork,
and while it may not be easy to support a fifth of the world's population on less than ten percent of the world's arable land, it is only a matter of time
before the world will be unable to support the Chinese's insatiable appetite for pork. Meat consumption has risen with the rise of people's

The Virus Is Contagious And Mutate
The ASF virus is highly contagious and spreads rapidly in pig populations through direct and indirect contact. This virus can persist for long periods in
pig products and the environment, and may be endemic in feral or wild suids and in Ornithodoros ticks. Isolates of ASFV vary in virulence; some
strains are highly pathogenic, resulting in almost 100% mortality while others are low–virulence or asymptomatic isolates that can be difficult to
diagnose [1].

Discovery of the disease

Once endemic in the Iberian Peninsula, ASFV was successfully eradicated from the European Union (EU) at the end of the 1990s after a prolonged 30
year effort. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even North American swine herds are at elevated risk of accidental or deliberate ASFV introduction from its widespread occurrence in Eastern Europe.
Unlike most trans–boundary viral infections, there is no vaccine available against ASFV. Consequently, detection and elimination of infected animals
(surveillance) combined with quarantine, pig movement controls and high herd bio–security are the only methods to control and eradicate ASF [3].
This approach is costly and often prohibitively expensive for food–insecure and developing countries affected by the disease, increasing the probability
of ASF becoming endemic in those regions. African swine fever virus control is further complicated by its complex ecology and transmission
epidemiology. In addition to infection by direct and indirect (fomite) contact among confined domestic swine, wild suids, and feral domestic hogs, soft
bodied ticks (Genus Ornithodoros) can transmit ASF and serve as virus reservoirs. Many wild boars in Russia and the Caucasus have been infected by
ASF since 2007, and there is evidence that some pigs may become carriers [4] The Ornithodoros tick vector is also present in this region. However, the
roles played by wild boars, feral swine and tick vectors in ASFV eco–epidemiology and transmission in the Caucasus are unknown at this time.

History And Origins Of Swine
History/Background The history of swine or pigs is very long. It can be traced to fossils dating back 40 million years, or to the Biblical creation.
Depending on who is telling the story, the history is bound to differ. Since pigs were first domesticated and production spread throughout the world,
a great deal has changed in the industry. People have gone from raising a few pigs in their yard for the family to survive the winter to huge
commercial farms which are specialized in farrowing or finishing. The Swine industry has grown immensely and become quite concentrated, whether
this is a good or bad thing is once again up to the bias of the narrator. Pigs date back 40 million years to fossils according to Pork checkoff, however as

There were a number of pigs that escaped as Hernando's herd grew upwards to 700 head, those that escaped became wild pigs, which are very likely
the ancestors of today's feral or razorback pigs. Pig production spread quickly through the colonies. They were introduced to New Mexico in 1600
by Hernando Cortes, and Jamestown in Virgina in 1607 by Sir Walter Raleigh. By the close of the 17th century, the average farmer had four or five
pigs which he raised to supply salt pork and bacon for his own family. It wasn't until after the Revolutionary War that pioneers header west, taking their
pigs with them and growing the American herd. Packing plants began to spring up in major cities. (Pork Checkoff, 2009–2011).
Changes in the Structure of the U.S. Pork Industry The United States has made a significant shift in swine production during the past two decades. The
countryside used to be filled with small operations that raised hogs and crops. However, the industry has become much more concentrated among large
operations. Single phase operations are much more prominent and replaced most of the farrow–to–finish operations. Between 1992 and 2004 the
number of hog farms fell by more than 70%, yet the hog inventory remained stable as the average operation grew from 945 head in 1992 to 4,646 in
2004 (Key & McBride, 2007). Small family farmer operations could not compete with the commercial farms. "In less than

Fashion Keg Parties
Physics is used in everyday activities even when the typical college kid is taking a break from class by attending a bonfire or a house party to blow off
steam. Yes, I'm talking about those good ol' fashion keg parties that everyone seems to believe are the general college night out. You see, physics is at
work from the first beer can opened to the last keg stand before the blackout, but it is also acting when the keg is tapped.
Kegs come in many shapes and sizes and there are no real measurements as far as weight and amount of alcohol. That means that the physics of all
kegs can be different. From lifting one to rolling it to having the ability to balance on your arms above it, some kegs are just easier to commit
adolescent indecencies then others. Still all kegs are basically the same in the way of how they work.
There is one opening on the top of the keg and a hose that runs to the bottom of the keg called the "spear." There is also a self–closing valve that has
enough tension to hold itself against the unpressured fluid in the barrel of alcohol. This in some cases will have another hose coming off of it with a
spigot or could just have a normal spout from which the contents will run until the pressure is relieved or the valve is physically closed. When the tap
is inserted into the keg and pumped in pushes air or other gases of your choice into the keg putting the contents under pressure. Depending on the gas
used and the amount of fluid in the keg you may need to drink

In his article "Boss Hog: The Dark Side of America's Top Pork Producer," (Rolling Stone Magazine, December 14, 2006) Jeff Teitz reports that not
only are millions upon millions of pigs being abused and slaughtered each year by America's largest pork producer, but, in turn, the waste produced by
those pigs is polluting, destroying, and even killing others. Teitz begins by revealing that Smithfield Foods, the world's most profitable pork processor,
killed 27 million hogs last year, which is roughly equivalent to the entire human populations of America's thirty–two largest cities. As Teitz delves
deeper into statistics, he explains that more fecal matter is produced from half a million pigs at one Smithfield subsidiary than the 1.5 million ... Show

The stench of the hog waste is so foul that workers may quit working in a hog house and still reek months later. The smell even causes some people to
collapse, Teitz explains.
Teitz reveals that Joseph Luter III, the chairman of Smithfield Foods, took over his father's business and became so successful that he began to
purchase other meat–producing factories and dominated the market in pork production. Teitz states that Luter's company began producing ungodly
amounts of hog waste, which gets dumped into the nation's water. During 1997, Smithfield violated the Clean Water Actand was fined over $12
million, which was less than one–percent of the company's annual sales.
Teitz explains that the pig waste is not only toxic to humans, but other creatures as well. Over 4 million fish died in 2003 as a result of pig–waste
runoff, but Teitz claims that spills are a minor problem in comparison to Pfiesteria piscicida, which is a microbe that has killed a billion fish and left
dozens of fishermen delusional and damaged their brains and lungs after breathing in the filthy air.
Teitz asserts that Smithfield would become bankrupt if the hog–waste problem was completely solved because there is too much waste to contain.
Smithfield has invested $20 million into turning some of its pig waste into an alternative fuel. As Teitz explains, Luter was not very fond of U.S.
regulators forcing his company to spend money on treating its vile hog waste, so he purchased one of Poland's

and only one is needed for the dry berries. This leaves two available to process wet berries, which at the rate of 1,050 bbls./hr. only need one as well.
We assume that one dryer can only process either bulk or bagged berries and not both at the same time. That is, one dryer can process 150 bbls./hr. of
bagged berries or 200 bbls./hr. of bulk berries. With three drying units this gives an output rate of 150, 200, 300, 400, 450, or 600 bbls./hr. If we use the
figures from Table B in the case we can find that 81.7% of the berries are bulk and the remaining 18.3% berries are to be bagged. At the 1,050 bbls.
/hr. rate for 12 hours (12,600 bbls. total) this corresponds to 10,294.2 bbls. bulk and 2,305.8 bbls. bagged. We also know that the bagged berries
can be picked up at any time during 24 hours and it is thus advantageous to process bulk berries first during the day and then process bagged berries
after hours. We also assume that berries prepared for baggin may also be used for bulk. Using the aforementioned assumptions, we can see that with
three dryers we can process the bulk berries at a rate of 600 bbls./hr. and then switch to processing bagged berries at a rate of 450 bbls./hr.
Using these rates we can find out how long trucks have to wait before they can empty their contents into a dumpster. When analyzing the waiting time of

depicts a "reassuring image" that happens to be "an image of the past" (Wheeler). However, in today's legislature, people like Mr. Smith are rare due
to the fact that a politician's primary goal is re–election. The good of the people may come as another intention of a politician, but it is always

wealth can have in the government. The system is designed so that things such as pork barreling can pass and sometimes need to pass in order for a

short–term approval from their district and gets them a future vote. This is a method of maintaining their career, and is something they are in some

Pork Barreling Essay
Pork barrel legislations is a daily occurrence in American government. Howard Scarrow showcases this in his May 6th column in The Village Times
Herald, "Our bacon, their park." His example of the recently proposed highway bill is a blatant exposure of pork barrel legislation. He indicates many
causes of this distributive politics that would lead to legislation such as the highway bill. Pork barrel legislation allows for a congressman to appeal to
his constituents by adding on seemingly small projects that would benefit his district, to a larger bill. This small portion of the legislation is usually
overlooked and passed along with the main part of the bill. In a way distributive politics is a sneaky way for congressmen to "bring home ... Show more

Pork barrel legislation is a way for congressmen to show their voters what great projects they can get funded and use those programs to get reelected.
Distributive politics has flourished in American government because of legislative processes in Congress. Pet projects like those in the highway
bill are possible in American government. James Madison said that America did not need to worry about factions because in such a large country
there would be so many factions that they would cancel each other out. What Madison did not anticipate was that these factions would work
together to further their own agendas. A sort of "I'll vote for your part of the bill if you vote for mine." Passing legislation is such a long and
complicated process that can be simplified if the bill just passes. So if every congressmen has a part of the bill that benefits his district, the bill
will be easier to pass. Committees are put together so that the work in congress can be split up. This results in many bills being passed strictly based
on pork barrel issues. No one opposes anything because to rework a bill is too much work. And why vote down a bill when your district will benefit
from it being passed.
The consequences of federal pork barreling are today's public opinions of Congress. Voters express a sixty percent approval rating of their own personal
representatives. However, voters opinion of Congress as a

The Relationship Between Porcine And Human Cysticercosis
Some of the other risk factors are linked to both porcine and human cysticercosis. According to Bhutta et al (2012) ,Garrett et al (2015) and Assana
et al (2010), low level hygiene environment such as dirty contaminated soil and lack of latrine may rise opportunities to access Taeniid ova because
dirty soil can increase the possibility of exposure to taeniid ova for both human and pig and taeniid ova can flow to water resource like wells in rainy
season.
Certainly, according to many of these articles including WHO, the installment of a large number of latrines can control the risk factor because it can
prevent the contamination(WHO 2015), However, there is the article reporting that public(community) latrine can bring weaker effect and all ... Show

Interestingly, more than 10 members decreased the risk in the result. Although Mwape infer this is because such large size family cannot consumepork
frequently due to the costs, a stronger evidence would be necessary to prove this. Therefore,a more large–scale observation such as cohort study is
highly recommendable to identify the necessity of latrines in the future.
Each of the resources examines other risk factors why such transmission situation between pig and human occur from various points of view in detail.
Carabin et al(2015) and Edia–Asukeet al(2014) maintain that the older people, the higher infection rate it is. They infer that the frequency of the
exposure is related to the infection. Interestingly, the change point analysis which determine the number of people with active infections
(cysticercosis)increases from at 30 years old in Zambia. This result is quite younger than the result in Ecuador under the same analysis (Mwape et al,
2015). This result could imply that sub–saharan Africa is at higher risk for T. solium infection than Latin America.
As an interesting site as a possible risk factor, slaughterhouse situations are referred in some articles. For example, in Nigeria, there is an existing
abattoir law to do proper management. However, various problem is identified from the actual situations. Especially, unregistered and private home pig
slaughter slabs may cause more

  • 1. Over The Many Years Pigs Have Developed And Evolved Into Over the many years pigs have developed and evolved into what they are today, 30 differing species of exotic and wild hogs that we know today, all around the planet. Wild pigs, even though not native to America still pose and ecological and economic risk to the nation. Feral swine, as descendants from domestic pigs, still pose considerable challenges in population control efforts. (Ditch off 2007, P. 149) Through strict wildlife management plans, monitoring and follow through actions, we can work to strike an advantageous balance with these invasive invertebrates. (Sleeman 2012) All of the initial Eurasian wild boars were released on fenced properties, later, some escaped there confinement, resulting in more wild pigs throughout the environment. The free roaming pig population of the U.S. is at an estimated 4 million. The reproductive strategy of wild hogs predominantly in the southeastern U.S. is considered very aggressive with high frequencies, intervals and offspring. Species Description Feral Hogs are a species that evolved in a relatively short period of time on the North American Continent. Even though there genetics are very similar if in most cases are the same to domesticated swine, there are noticeable differences. Feral swine over the current domesticated pig have will have blackish brown color, with grizzled guard hairs, a mane of hair , 8–16 cm long, running dorsally from the neck to the backend, a straight heavily tufted tail, and ears covered with hair. (NSRL 2016) Even though the physical attributes of these wild boars differ greatly from their counterparts, the characteristics of feral hogs are still very much varied, depending upon the breed of the ancestral stock. Unfortunately, death isn't something that we can control. However, we can prolong it for as much as possible. We all know the saying, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away", but what if I said, "Less bacon a day keeps the cancer away". If you aren't up to date, author, Jeffrey Kluger, has recently released an article in TIME Magazine that ultimately talks about how bacon and other meats could be held responsible for causing cancer, specifically colorectal cancer (2015). America's favorite breakfast food, bacon, seems to be a prime suspect in this case. However, bacon isn't alone in this. Hot dogs and other red meats are under suspicion as well. So what can we do? Well, we could go cold–turkey, but that doesn't solve anything. Instead, we need to be smarter about the decisions we make when eating our meat, in order for us to live a healthier lifestyle. Although I'm in no position to tell you what you should do and shouldn't do, that doesn't mean I can't give you a couple of tips. Before going into detail about what tips I can give you, first let's understand why we should be smarter about the meat we eat. According to Kluger, "In the case of processed meats, the biggest risks are sodium nitrates, which are added to foods principally as preservatives. Once they enter the body, however, they form nitrosamines, chemical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I personally enjoy the red, juicy meat which usually comes between two buns. While I try and talk to Sarah, my owner, my tongue doesn't allow it. My day mostly consists of sitting, sleeping, chasing after the Gerald, the cat, waiting for Sarah to get home and sometimes I am able to get into this metal can in the kitchen with multitudes of heavenly treats; however, there is this thing, it sits on the right side of the porch on the back of the house, Sarah turns it on and she starts cooking. Horrible things come out of it; Smoke, fire, steaming hot objects, and worse Sarah even stands near it. Besides that disgusting object on the porch. Sarah's house is fantastic. Plenty of couches to sit on, Huge televisions, and plenty of places to go to the bathroom. My favorite spot is right outside Sarah's room for two reasons. First, Sarah is usually there when she's home, and it's the furthest place from the Gerald's lair. I only go to the bathroom there because I miss Sarah during the day. It's a hot day inside Sarah's house. I sit in the living room in the first floor, to hide from the flaming hot object in the sky and to avoid Gerald. As I start drifting into a restless nap. It pulls aside the curtain that is concealing the truth about food from the consumer. After the brief intro, the movie shifts its focus to the topic of fast food and its impact on the meat industries. Fast food virtually started with McDonald's. When they decided to simplify their menu and hire employees that repeated one task over and over for minimum wage, the result was the fast food phenomenon that swept the United States, and then the world. Today, McDonald's is the largest purchaser of beef and potatoes in the United States, and is one of the largest purchasers of pork, chicken, tomatoes, and apples. Though ... The food industry has become consolidated to the point of a few companies having a great deal of power and influence via the government. The USDA is no longer able to shutdown plants with contaminated meat. A bill titled "Kevin's Law" had the intent of changing that, but, after 6 years, the bill still has not been passed. Food companies have made some attempts to reduce E. coli by cleaning their meats in an ammonia solution. However, unhealthy food is being subsidized and contributing to American obesity and the rise of type 2 diabetes in adolescents. The film then travels to a hog processing plant that kills 32,000 hogs a day. They expose the strategy of the company to hire extremely poor and illegal immigrants who can't afford to quit their jobs, despite problems with frequent infections of the hands and fingernails, a side effect of poor sanitation standards. The predicted increase in the wet berries growth to 70% will increase the overtime issues as the dryer is the bottle neck in the process and wet berries require going through this step. There is also a secondary problem regarding grading of process berries. Half of the berries graded top quality is actually not top quality and do not deserve extra premiums paid on the top quality berries. This is due to the inefficient quality assessment method. The waiting of the Trucks can be reduced by adding an extra storage bin (converting the bins to be used for both wet and dry berries) to the system. The other reason for the increased wait time is that the processing at the plant starts at 11:00 am whereas the trucks start delivering at 7:00am due to which the trucks have to wait for a longer time. So the working shift should be change to 7:00 am instead of 11:00 am. This will effectively decrease the wait time of the berries. This will also eliminate the need of adding the extra storage to the system as the process will start as soon as the deliveries start eliminating the berry stock build up. Scheduling and holding capacities will not work if we cannot dry the berries. By adding two additional driers, NCC will be able to dry 400 barrels per hour of wet berries decreasing the bottleneck.

By implementing a floating bridge, in a non–linear terrain in the city of Champong Chnnang it allows for effective, and efficient commute between two villages. This idea allows for the saving of time and money, by not implementing a less efficient method of transportation and trade between the two villages. THIS ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH, LET EDWARD ADD SHIT TO THIS TOO. Sustainable Design: The bridge has a very well designed 'sustainability' concept, relying on upcycled materials to complete the bridge. These upcycled materials consist of the wood, the fishing net, the oil barrels and the plastic shielding for the barrels. These materials can be used for functional roles in the design, such as platforms, floatation, safety lines across hand rails, and so on. The bridge's sustainability concept can be further supported by the ease of replacing materials, and not throwing them in the bin. The materials such as wood, plastic and pieces of metallic bolts and nuts can be recycled and reused for other purposed such as furniture, storage or completely recycled back into a molten form for the metallic objects. The definition of this meat at least in Australian terms is the meat that comes from cattle, goat and sheep. It does not include meat from such animals as pigs, kangaroo, chickens, turkey and buffalo. When you purchase red meat, you will notice that it contains lean or muscle tissue along with fat tissue, which can be both throughout the lean tissue as marbling or around the outside of the particular cut of meat. A butcher typically trims off this excess fat to ensure the cut is as lean as possible. Protein Content The protein content of red meat ranges from 20g up to 36g per 100g, depending on whether it is raw or cooked. During the cooking processes, nutrients in this meat become more concentrated, thus, the increase of protein per 100g of cooked red meat. Pork is processed by transporting the hogs to a slaughterhouse or pork packing plants, individuals are still able to process their own pork if they would like but is not very common. In 2013 there were 606 of these USDA inspected slaughter houses for pork, with 12 of these plants making up over half of the hogs slaughtered in a calendar year (Giamalva 2014, 22). The top 5 packing facilities of 2015 based on their estimated daily slaughter capacity (determined by head per day) are: Smithfield (115,000), JBS (89,800), Tyson Foods (IBP) (80,950), Hormel (36,800), and Triumph Foods (21,500) (U.S. Packing 2016). Pork processing can involve the before mentioned slaughter houses along with a firm that will further process the carcass meat. Many of these large packing plants also double as companies that will further utilize the pork into a processed pork product. For example Tyson Foods owns the brand name processed foods such as: Jimmy Dean, Hillshire Farm, Sara Lee, Ball Park, Bonici, and many more. The BP oil spill is one of the largest spills in the history of the U.S. and one of the largest unintentional spills in history. The oil in which was spilled was in the Gulf of Mexico. The spill did not only harm the environment, but 11 lives were taken in total from the spill. It took 87 days to clean up most of the oil. The minimum penalty was $1,100 per barrel, while the maximum was $3,000 per barrel. The total price paid for the minimum was $5.39 billion, and the max was $14.7 billion. Although, some argued that the rate should have been as high as $4,300 per barrel. If that were the case, then it would be $21.07 billion. The settlement amount that was eventually paid was at a lower amount of $18.7 billion. The percent of the maximum fine that was paid was 89%. In order to get the percentage, you need to divide 18.7 billion by 21.07 billion and that equals 0.887, then round it to 89. Then, when you want to get the final amount, you have to add the highest and lowest terms and divide by two. So as the equations go, it would be $21.07 billion + $18.7 billion = $39.77 billion / 2 = $19.9 billion. The mid–range to the final amount of $18.7 billion, is $19.9 billion. The price of the settlement at $18.7 billion was in fact too low. If you look at the number of people and animals affected by the spill, it is justified asking for a higher amount from BP oil company. Taking into consideration ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For the past years, countries have been using oil extensively since it has a lot of benefits and many uses. Oil has been used a lot in the past years, whether people were using it for personal uses such as for their cars or transportation companies using it for the sake of their vehicles. Conventional oil is a mixture of mainly pentanes and heavier hydrocarbons that are extracted from an underground reservoir and liquid at atmospheric pressure and temperature, this allows the oil to flow through a pipeline without processing. Conventional oil can be used for many things, but one of the most important uses is for a vehicle. Synthetic oil is a lubricant made up from chemical compounds which are artificial. Although the truth is that the industry has come a very long way in the past 50 years in regards to its sustainability. Thepig farming industry as a whole has been able to reduce its overall environmental impact and natural resources use by 50% in the past 50 years according to a study done by Garth Boyd a well known researcher on environmental footprints (Boyd). Even with the improvements made by the pig farming industry there is still a need for change and major improvement in sustainable practices. First I will discuss how the pig farming industry effects our environment. Although it is true a pig farm needs water and land to operate, the use of those natural resources is not the major problem with pig farms. It is what goes in the air that is of concern. The pig manure and the decomposition of the manure over time release three major gases of concern, methane, ammonia, and hydrogen sulfide. There are other gaseous compounds that may be emitted from decomposing manure but these three are the principal gases in emissions. • 26. Pork : A Central Role Diet And Culture Of The Chinese The... Pork plays a central role in diet and culture of the Chinese–the world's largest consumers of pork. In Chinese, and Cantonese specifically in my case, no distinction is made between the word "meat" and "pork"–they are one and the same. As the Chinese's socioeconomic status continues to rise, so does their demand for meat. To adapt to the ever growing demand, China's meat industry has changed a lot in the past few decades. From a state of rationing the limited supply of meat to only urban citizens, China has now become the largest meat–producing country in the world. Prior to 2007, China had been able to maintain self–sufficiency in pork production; however, since 2007, China's pork imports have had an annual growth rate of 150%. The Chinese's growing appetite for pork and other meat products has affected the Chinese agricultural community greatly, with the shift from the traditional small–scale farmer to the mass production of swine by large corporations. The effects of the Chinese appetite for pork is not contained within China's borders; China's shift to dependency on pork imports have implications for international trade. China is no longer self–sufficient when it comes to pork, and while it may not be easy to support a fifth of the world's population on less than ten percent of the world's arable land, it is only a matter of time before the world will be unable to support the Chinese's insatiable appetite for pork. Unlike most trans–boundary viral infections, there is no vaccine available against ASFV. Consequently, detection and elimination of infected animals (surveillance) combined with quarantine, pig movement controls and high herd bio–security are the only methods to control and eradicate ASF [3]. This approach is costly and often prohibitively expensive for food–insecure and developing countries affected by the disease, increasing the probability of ASF becoming endemic in those regions. African swine fever virus control is further complicated by its complex ecology and transmission epidemiology. In addition to infection by direct and indirect (fomite) contact among confined domestic swine, wild suids, and feral domestic hogs, soft bodied ticks (Genus Ornithodoros) can transmit ASF and serve as virus reservoirs. Many wild boars in Russia and the Caucasus have been infected by ASF since 2007, and there is evidence that some pigs may become carriers [4] The Ornithodoros tick vector is also present in this region. However, the roles played by wild boars, feral swine and tick vectors in ASFV eco–epidemiology and transmission in the Caucasus are unknown at this time. Humans are not ... • 29. History And Origins Of Swine History/Background The history of swine or pigs is very long. It can be traced to fossils dating back 40 million years, or to the Biblical creation. Depending on who is telling the story, the history is bound to differ. Since pigs were first domesticated and production spread throughout the world, a great deal has changed in the industry. People have gone from raising a few pigs in their yard for the family to survive the winter to huge commercial farms which are specialized in farrowing or finishing. The Swine industry has grown immensely and become quite concentrated, whether this is a good or bad thing is once again up to the bias of the narrator. There were a number of pigs that escaped as Hernando's herd grew upwards to 700 head, those that escaped became wild pigs, which are very likely the ancestors of today's feral or razorback pigs. Pig production spread quickly through the colonies. They were introduced to New Mexico in 1600 by Hernando Cortes, and Jamestown in Virgina in 1607 by Sir Walter Raleigh. By the close of the 17th century, the average farmer had four or five pigs which he raised to supply salt pork and bacon for his own family. It wasn't until after the Revolutionary War that pioneers header west, taking their pigs with them and growing the American herd. Packing plants began to spring up in major cities. (Pork Checkoff, 2009–2011). Changes in the Structure of the U.S. Pork Industry The United States has made a significant shift in swine production during the past two decades. The countryside used to be filled with small operations that raised hogs and crops. However, the industry has become much more concentrated among large operations. Single phase operations are much more prominent and replaced most of the farrow–to–finish operations. Between 1992 and 2004 the number of hog farms fell by more than 70%, yet the hog inventory remained stable as the average operation grew from 945 head in 1992 to 4,646 in 2004 (Key & McBride, 2007). Yes, I'm talking about those good ol' fashion keg parties that everyone seems to believe are the general college night out. You see, physics is at work from the first beer can opened to the last keg stand before the blackout, but it is also acting when the keg is tapped. Kegs come in many shapes and sizes and there are no real measurements as far as weight and amount of alcohol. That means that the physics of all kegs can be different. From lifting one to rolling it to having the ability to balance on your arms above it, some kegs are just easier to commit adolescent indecencies then others. Still all kegs are basically the same in the way of how they work. There is one opening on the top of the keg and a hose that runs to the bottom of the keg called the "spear." There is also a self–closing valve that has enough tension to hold itself against the unpressured fluid in the barrel of alcohol. This in some cases will have another hose coming off of it with a spigot or could just have a normal spout from which the contents will run until the pressure is relieved or the valve is physically closed. When the tap is inserted into the keg and pumped in pushes air or other gases of your choice into the keg putting the contents under pressure. In his article "Boss Hog: The Dark Side of America's Top Pork Producer," (Rolling Stone Magazine, December 14, 2006) Jeff Teitz reports that not only are millions upon millions of pigs being abused and slaughtered each year by America's largest pork producer, but, in turn, the waste produced by those pigs is polluting, destroying, and even killing others. Teitz begins by revealing that Smithfield Foods, the world's most profitable pork processor, killed 27 million hogs last year, which is roughly equivalent to the entire human populations of America's thirty–two largest cities. As Teitz delves deeper into statistics, he explains that more fecal matter is produced from half a million pigs at one Smithfield subsidiary than the 1.5 million ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The stench of the hog waste is so foul that workers may quit working in a hog house and still reek months later. The smell even causes some people to collapse, Teitz explains. Teitz reveals that Joseph Luter III, the chairman of Smithfield Foods, took over his father's business and became so successful that he began to purchase other meat–producing factories and dominated the market in pork production. Teitz states that Luter's company began producing ungodly amounts of hog waste, which gets dumped into the nation's water. During 1997, Smithfield violated the Clean Water Actand was fined over $12 million, which was less than one–percent of the company's annual sales. Teitz explains that the pig waste is not only toxic to humans, but other creatures as well. Over 4 million fish died in 2003 as a result of pig–waste runoff, but Teitz claims that spills are a minor problem in comparison to Pfiesteria piscicida, which is a microbe that has killed a billion fish and left dozens of fishermen delusional and damaged their brains and lungs after breathing in the filthy air. Teitz asserts that Smithfield would become bankrupt if the hog–waste problem was completely solved because there is too much waste to contain. Smithfield has invested $20 million into turning some of its pig waste into an alternative fuel. As Teitz explains, Luter was not very fond of U.S. regulators forcing his company to spend money on treating its vile hog waste, so he purchased one of Poland's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We assume that one dryer can only process either bulk or bagged berries and not both at the same time. That is, one dryer can process 150 bbls./hr. of bagged berries or 200 bbls./hr. of bulk berries. With three drying units this gives an output rate of 150, 200, 300, 400, 450, or 600 bbls./hr. If we use the figures from Table B in the case we can find that 81.7% of the berries are bulk and the remaining 18.3% berries are to be bagged. At the 1,050 bbls. /hr. rate for 12 hours (12,600 bbls. total) this corresponds to 10,294.2 bbls. bulk and 2,305.8 bbls. bagged. We also know that the bagged berries can be picked up at any time during 24 hours and it is thus advantageous to process bulk berries first during the day and then process bagged berries after hours. We also assume that berries prepared for baggin may also be used for bulk. Using the aforementioned assumptions, we can see that with three dryers we can process the bulk berries at a rate of 600 bbls./hr. and then switch to processing bagged berries at a rate of 450 bbls./hr.

He indicates many causes of this distributive politics that would lead to legislation such as the highway bill. Pork barrel legislation allows for a congressman to appeal to his constituents by adding on seemingly small projects that would benefit his district, to a larger bill. Distributive politics has flourished in American government because of legislative processes in Congress. Pet projects like those in the highway bill are possible in American government. James Madison said that America did not need to worry about factions because in such a large country there would be so many factions that they would cancel each other out. What Madison did not anticipate was that these factions would work together to further their own agendas. A sort of "I'll vote for your part of the bill if you vote for mine." Passing legislation is such a long and complicated process that can be simplified if the bill just passes. So if every congressmen has a part of the bill that benefits his district, the bill will be easier to pass. Committees are put together so that the work in congress can be split up. This results in many bills being passed strictly based on pork barrel issues. No one opposes anything because to rework a bill is too much work.
