Juan Ponce de Leon was a Spanish conquistador who went on many expeditions to Florida around the late 15th century and early 16th century. Ponce
de Leon started his exploration in joining Christopher Columbus on his second voyage to the Americas in 1493. They landed in Hispaniola and found a
settlement to be destroyed and the sailors to be murdered. Columbus enforced a forced–labor policy and made the Natives rebuild the settlement and

For my final culture project, I decided to take a trip to the beautiful island of Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico is a commonwealth of the United States,
therefore, passports are not needed when traveling to and from the island. It is located in the northeastern Caribbean Sea and sits east of the Dominican
Republic and West if the U.S. Virgin Islands. Spanish is the primary language inPuerto Rico, however, most Puerto Ricans almost speak English.
These two languages are both official languages of Puerto Rico. In fact, Puerto Rico actually translates into Rich Port in English and has a
population of 3,674,209. It is also home to one of the longest zip lines in the world, La Bestia. It allows the rider to soar in the air over 4,745 feet of
terrain. The 2.5km cable also enables the rider to reach a speed up to 93.20 miles per hour. Therefore, I chose Puerto Rico to embark on a new exciting
adventure. According to Delta Airlines, the airfare from Charlotte Douglas International Airport to Luis Munoz International Airport, round trip, will
cost approximately $1,232. This includes first class seating, premium entertainment, personalized service, primary check–in, and premium food &

While at Hispaniola, I would have been able to see how settlements and colonies would be set up in the different regions, depending on the different
geography and climate of each region. Settlements and colonies are the start of civilizations, and I would've been able to see the growing of the

Although Juan Ponce De Leon's date of birth isn't certain he was most likely born in 1474, he was born into a noble Spanish family and he was
the son of a military hero. Juan Ponce De Leon was born in Santervas De Campos in Castilla which is now known as Spain. In his youth he spent
his time working as a Page for a Spanish Knight. As a Page he cleaned his Knights clothing, cared for his weapons and tended to his horses. In
return he was taught a code of honor and learned the way in which he could be expected to behave as a knight. As an adult he moved to Cadiz and
became a Squire, he was taught to hunt and handle weapons such as swords and Spanish guns that looked like rifles. Because of this he was recruited
to fight against the Moors in Granada from 1487 to 1492. Nevertheless he was considered of a person without importance when he took his first
expedition in 1493 on Christopher Columbus's second voyage to the new world. This voyage started in the harbor of Cadiz and led to the Canary
Islands, which is where the last touch of land was had before amassing the large body of water that is the Atlantic which eventually led to Espanola.
