As her, I've experience change in my life when I moved from the Dominican Republic at eighteen to Manhattan, New York. I perfectly understand the
struggle to get adjusted to a new culture that you don't feel welcome on. I came alone to this country, and I moved with my aunt family. They are
different to my nuclear family. They are materialistic, and they care a lot on appearances. My aunt family made me feel as a stranger because I'm not
like them.
Also, outside the house, I felt classified in a category due to my nationality. When I first enroll in college, the registration personnel assumed that I
would fail my English test because I'm Dominican. They were about to not give me a test and register me to a low English class, however, I spoke to
them to give me an opportunity and so they did, and I passed. Its hard when people not knowing you classify you by your nationality.

What Is The Biblical Values In The Hunchback Of Notre Dame
The Biblical Presence and Influence on the Movie Hunchback of Notre Dame
"But alas, if I have not maintained my victory, it is God's fault for not making man and the devil of equal strength" (Victor Hugo). In our lives, we are
always looking for someone to blame, someone to look after us, and someone to make us feel better. Quite often, that someone is God. In The
Hunchback of Notre Dame, the characters look to heaven and god for moments of crisis of happiness in their lives. The idea of heaven, sin, and
monsters are portrayed in many scenes in the movie. The Hunchback of Notre Dame specifically illustrates concepts from the bible through
rejection similar to that of christ, the hypocrisy of the Pharaohs, and basic biblical principles. "No face as hideous as my face was ever meant for
heaven's light. But suddenly an angel has smiled at me And kissed my cheek without a trace of fright. I dare to dream that she might even care for me
as I ring these bells tonight, my cold dark tower seems so bright" (HND). The hunchback of Notre Dame, Quasimodo, struggles to be accepted by his
society for a very long time. He was always an outcast in his society. People saw nothing in him, and failed to value him for his kind heart. He was
seen as a monster like creature, who would never encounter love. Jesus Christ, although not seen as hideous, was also rejected by members of his
society. Both Jesus and Quasimodo had kindness and love ot offer to the world. Jesus, who claimed he was the

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest Important Quotes
The quotes that moved the novel forward, and makes one think about the novel are the following: "Then from that eye, hitherto so dry and burning,
was seen to roll a big tear, which fell slowly down that deformed visage so long contracted by despair. Perhaps it was the first that the unfortunate
creature had ever shed." This is important because this quote happened right when Esmeralda gave Quasimodo the water. He has never had anyone be
so kind to him and it made him cry a tear of joy. "It was the first gratification of self–love that he had ever experienced. Until then he had encountered
nothing but humiliation, contempt for his condition, and disgust." This quote makes the reader realize that Quasimodo was being humiliated and

Analytical Essay On Edward Scissorhands
Edward Scissorhands Analytical Essay Edward Scissorhands explores how difficult it can be to fit in. To what extent do you agree? In the movie,
Edward Scissorhands, Tim Burton explores that it can be hard to fit in if you're different. He does this through the three different characters,
Edward, Peg and Esmeralda who all have their own reasons for not fitting. While Edward is classified as an outsider because of how he looks,
Esmeralda is classified as an outsider because of her beliefs and Peg is an outsider because of how she acts compared to the other townspeople who
are gossipy. As soon as Esmeralda is introduced the audience she is depicted as different from the other bright, colourful towns people. The audience

The first person who first meets Edward is Peg when she is going up to the mansion to sell her Avon cosmetics. He comes out of the shadows Peg
is shocked by his looks. "Oh my! What happened to you?" She asked shocked by his scissor hands. During this the camera shots of Edward are
mostly close ups on his face and hands point out his most unique and different features. Edward's clothes throughout the entire movie are tight,
black, leather which is very different to the bright colourful town's people's clothes and often these clothes made him stand out which set him apart
from the town's people. Edward isn't just set apart by film techniques, he is also very much an outsider to the towns who find him curious. This is
shown in a few situations. The main one is at the BBQ when George Monroe meets Edward and asks him to play cards. "Would you like that? The
only thing is you can't cut." George said making fun of Edward's differences, something he wouldn't do to a friend. While Edward and Esmeralda are
quite different from the town's people, Peg is one of them but struggles to fit in at times because of how she sees things and how she is more

Victor Hugo Research Paper
In the 1800s, Victor Hugo, a French author, wrote the book The Hunchback of Notre–Dame, which centred on the character Quasimodo. Quasimodo is
considered ugly and monstrous, with a hunchback and a wart that covers his eyes. He is also deaf. But why should his handicap matter? In the novel,
Hugo uses his disability as a tool to make him more pitiable despite his uncomfortable actions. The same disability can be found in many other classic
novels, such as Moby–Dick, by the American writer Herman Melville, or Carson McCullers's work in The Heart is a Lonely Hunter. In fact, deafness
is to be seen as a symbol of innocence and pureness in the literary world. However, in a less romanticised version of the loss of hearing that is real life,
not being able to hear is a very real problem many people have to deal with everyday. As a matter of fact, deafness is much... Show more content on

While sensorineural deafness can be the result of tiny hair cells being damaged, this can also occur when the auditory nerve is damaged (Better
Hearing Institute, n.d.). Sensorineural deafness changes the ability of hearing faint sound and reduce the intensity of sound, creating difficulties for
the person suffers from it to understand others (hearcom, n.d.). The causes of sensorineural deafness may vary, the exposure to loud noises, aging,
medicines, illnesses, head trauma, or malformation in the structure of the inner ear are all potential causes (Better Hearing Institute, n.d.). Genetic
also play as a role in the cause of sensorineural deafness. While sensorineural hearing loss is irreversible, researchers have found a way to help the
patients to be able to hear better. Through a cochlear implant, an electronic device that replaces the function of the damaged inner ear and provide
sound signal to the brain, people who suffer from sensorineural hearing loss would be able to hear (cochlear,

Because the family belongs to an extremely small ethnic group, Esmeralda and her family may be suffering from discrimination in hiring practices or

3. What do you need to know about her cultural values/beliefs that may affect the delivery of social services? (Hint: **Consider specific cultural
issues discussed in class. **) Be specific. Why is it important to know this information as her caseworker? How will you obtain that information?
3. Differences in values and beliefs define a person's choice for mental and physical health care. "Because health care is a cultural construct, arising
from beliefs about the nature of disease and the human body, cultural issues are actually central in the delivery of health services treatment and
preventive interventions" (Office of Minority Health, 2005, p. 6). It is important to acknowledge that Esmeralda fits into two categories of minority
because Esmeralda is a Latina. It is important to know that Hispanic women are less likely to make full use of many social services even when they
are provided to them. Hispanics normally are family oriented and that means Esmeralda will probably want to involve her family in any treatment

Afro-Ecuadorian Research
In Afro–Ecuadorian communities throughout Ecuador, the focus of intercultural education programs materialized in many initiatives in the educational
communities. At the school level, Afro–Ecuadorian policy leaders established two instructional institutions as the pioneers of ethno–educational studies
in Ecuador: These are the Simon Bolivar University masters program in Afro–Andina studies in Quito and the high school program at the Colegio
Nacional in the Cho Mira Valley region. There purpose was to foment scholarly research of the discourse of Afro–Ecuadorian educational experiences
throughout the country. Leaders also developed similar initiatives at the primary level as well (Johnson, 2014)..

In the first workshop, Garcia used riddles as a pedagogical tool to show how oral tradition has, "produced and reproduced knowledge specific to the
region of Esmeraldas" (Johnson, 2014). Johnson (2014) provides an example of one such riddle where he ask listeners to guess an object by citing
the following riddle: "Heaven above, heaven below, indispensable for food and good for curing sickness." At the end of the riddle, Garcia cited that
the answer to the riddle was indeed the coconut–A fruit that holds significance in the province of Esmeraldas as it a staple in the diet of the locals
(Johnson, 2014). However, the significance of the coconut in the region is not merely limited to diet; the people of Esmeraldas also use coconuts to
keep repel mosquitoes, repair canoes, and cure sickness. Therefore, the riddle posed by Garcia in the workshop, formed on the collective knowledge of
the Esmeraldas community, is meant to educate listeners on the significance of the coconut within the economic and cultural structure of the region
and how oral tradition has maintained Afro–Ecuadorians awareness of this resource throughout colonialism to the present(Johnson, 2014). Thus, Garcia
in this workshop uses this simple riddle to repudiate principles of the traditional educational model in Ecuador that perpetuate the notion that
Afro–Ecuadorians have contributed little or nothing to the

The Influence Of Television In Television
Television is a platform in which nowadays everyone has some type of interaction with. With television people are exposed to movies, shows, news,
cartoons, music, etc. In today's society television has become the main source of information, but most people view television as a means for
entertainment (Mitu, 2011). For some people television might be the first platform where they are exposed to a new subject. This exposure might
leave its viewers with positive or negative feelings towards a subject. According to Mitu (2011) television has the power to influence or change
people's attitudes, behaviors, and feelings towards a certain subject. A topic that is portrayed in television isdisability, the screen provides its audience
with a unique point of view. Examples of disabilities reflected on television can be seen on movies such as The Hunchback of Notre Dame released in
1996, At First Sight (1999), and the TV show The Good Doctor aired in 2017. These movies are representation of how various disabilities are
portrayed through the screen and the way in which people react to and deal with the differences that these people experience. The Hunchback of Notre
Dame movie tells the story of Quasimodo a deformed man who also has a hunchback, and since he was a baby he has spent his life away from society.
Quasimodo is afraid of how people will react when they see him. Frollo the person responsible of taking care of Quasimodo has made him believe that

she let her feelings lead. Leaning into his embrace she let her own hands tug at his tunic. She removed her own shirt and hip scarf. Taking his
trembling hands in her own soft brown ones, she guided him and showed him how to touch her. From there, any remaining clothes were removed
and they found comfort in each other's embrace. It was a pleasurable experience for both, his sweet inexperience was exactly what she had needed

Analysis Of ' I Was A Puerto Rican, By Esmeralda Santiago
Question 1 – Foreshadowing
"I push my cart away, toward the apples and pears of my adulthood, their nearly seedless ripeness predictable and bittersweet." This quote, and entire
prologue, are taken from the memoir When I was a Puerto Rican, by Esmeralda Santiago and they foreshadow that her whole life is changed, just like
the fruit she eats and that are in her life. Santiago life is totally turned around in this memoir and the prologue shows that. The author "weaves"
foreshadowing into the memoir by showing us how her life changed dramatically and once she came to the United States everything was different, just
like fruit here in the United States and in Puerto Rico. The author uses the technique of foreshadowing to give something to look forward to in her story
and build suspense and anticipation.
Santiago used foreshadowing to show that her life changed and that it changed a lot. Her life is foreshadowed that it will change and that she lets her
past go. Leaving her past in the past and moving on with her present and future. Santiago's life was horrible growing up. Her parents did not always
get along, their home was not always safe, clean, and good for her and her family, they were always moving, etc. After they moved to New York, a
couple years later, her life was changed. She was offered an acting role and then later on went to Harvard with a scholarship. As you can see, she left
her past in the past and went on with her amazing new life. When I was a Puerto

She struggled with not letting go of too much of her origins and not becoming too much "Americanized". Her mother tried to instill in her that even
though they were not any longer living in Puerto Rico the Puerto Rico should always live in her. In the book, Jamie, one of the guys who worked as
an actor with Negi in Buda, mentioned something that was very important and that I think every Puerto Rican or anyone from another ethnicity
deals with. He said that Puerto Ricans that live in New York have to be more Puerto Rican than those living in Puerto Rico so as to keep the culture
alive in them and in New York. This statement, it think summarizes what all people of different ethnicity have to deal with when they go to a
foreign land and have to learn a new culture. This is why I decided to reflect on the different roles my mother has undertaken in comparison to Negi
Negi's mom and me. I found that many of their roles were not very similar to those of Negi or Negi's mom. This could be because they lived in
different times.
My mother has many roles. She is a mother to four, a wife, a sister to five, a Pentecostal Christian, a member to a church, a friend to many, and a
grandmother of one. She is even a housekeeper much of the time, a cook most of the time also. Sort of similar to Negi's mom who was a mother of

Complex Moralities (the Hunchback of Notre Dame)
Jessie Harrington Complex Moralities According to Aristotle, for a writer to create an interesting character it must be morally complex, meaning it
must consist of not only good or bad morals, but both. Victor Hugo's The Hunchback of Notre Dame has a few examples of this trait in its main
characters. Claude Frollo, the priest, shows moral complexity, as he is the novel's antagonist but is also very compassionate in his feelings toward
Esmeralda. Phoebus, who is a nobleman, a soldier, and the captain of the King's archers, is also one to cheat on his fiance, Fleur–de–Lys de
Gondelaurier, and later ignore his chance to save Esmeralda during her execution. Quasimodo is another quality example of moral... Show more content

For example after he was whipped for an hour all he asked for was water. Everyone listening to him laughed at him but Esmeralda gave him water.
This is ironic because the reason that he was being whipped was because he attacked Esmeralda, yet she was the only one to show him sympathy
and give him water. Quasimodo was so touched by her kind gesture that "from that eye, hitherto so dry and burning, was seen to roll a big tear,
which fell slowly down that deformed visage so long contracted by despair" (Hugo 322). From then on Quasimodo became very loyal to Esmeralda.
Though this is true, he turns on Frollo, the man who raised him and took him in when he had no one, because he is responsible for Esmeralda's death.
During Esmeralda's hanging he couldn't bare the rage, he "took a few steps back from the archdeacon, and then, rushing at him furiously, with his two
huge hands, he struck the priest's back and pushed Dom Claude into the abyss over which he had been leaning" (Hugo 300). Though his morals may
not have been commendable, his heart and intentions are genuine. Frollo's bad decisions and confusing feelings, Phoebus's corrupt loyalty but heroic
stature, and Quasimodo's twisted priorities but kind heart reflect true imperfection of the human spirit. Victor Hugo used Aristotle's methods of giving
a character moral complexity to make the reader more

Frank was 9 years old so he was smarter than before thus why this death was brilliantly constructed. The reason Frank killed Esmeralda is because
he needed to create 'balance' by killing a 'women' as he has killed 2 'men'. 'I ought to redress the balance at least slightly. My cousin was simply the
easiest and most obvious target. Despite his need to create balance that predatory behavior is also what's driven frank to kill Esmeralda. In the wild
the predator would go for the 'easiest and most obvious target'. This predatory illustration of Frank is disturbing. Like Paul the reader sympathizes with
Esmeralda as she too is young, naГЇve and innocent. Frank is also fond of Esmeralda. His justification of her death like Paul is disturbing as he truly
believes in his beliefs to commit these disturbing actions. Again by this Banks satires religion for their strong beliefs leading them to actions he
would deem to be foolish. Each death is described thoroughly, which is disturbing as the amount of detail added makes the death somewhat
humorous to the reader. When Frank describes his first victim the reader is on franks side as Blyth is presented to a horrible character. However that
changes when he describes Paul's death making the reader against franks. This carries on with Esmeralda who is another innocent victim. Despite the

movie. This paper discusses about the difference and similarity about the book and the movie.
The context behind the novel was affected by the political and historical tendencies during the 19th century. Hugo expresses about the political
liberty and the Notre Dame Cathedral because it symbolizes the cultural and political center of Paris. Victor Hugo says that the Cathedral was "a
transitional edifice" and "the work of ages". The Cathedral symbolizes the changes made by the time; new things replace the old things. The
Hunchback of Notre Dame was published with the aim to save the medieval architecture from the Cathedral. The book is about the Notre Dame
Cathedral located in Paris, how the Cathedral was a medieval design but it got destroy and was replaced by modern design. ... Show more content on

It is odd that Disney would go for such a dark story to make this movie. Besides that Disney did a wonderful job with Victor Hugo's classic novel.
Disney turned this novel completely around without loosing its story line. In the book we see as Victor Hugo tries to show people how old things,
which are, suppose to represent new things are replacing the culture. On the other hand we have the movie, which is trying to show kids not to
discriminate others for their appearance or beliefs. They made this possible by showing that no matter how people might look; they are always possible

Esmeralda By Alice Parker Summary
Esmeralda's Response Throughout the years studies have shown a tremendous decreases in children's physical activities. According to article 1,
Alice Parker states, "Obesity shows no signs of slowing, and the reasons why it is widespread can be faced to an increasingly sedentary lifestyle that
keeps people inactive, and eating more hours of the day' (Parker 4). Obesity has increased drastically over the years. Obesity counters many different
age groups but a big percentage of obesity counters teens. Lack of exercise is the cause of this. Exercise comes with many different benefits that help
many different people but benefit teens most. Exercise maintains good physical health, excellent body health, and also mental health. Now in days,
most teens aren't as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Parker's research showed that children of the ages 6–19 gradually increased the lack of exercise they do every year. With this being said, teens are
supposed to get an hour of exercise in everyday to maintain a healthy body. By the way teens live now, there are no possible ways for them to put
in the amount of exercise needed. In this situation, the lifestyle teens live now only cause for one benefit, obesity. Teens rather lay in bed eating than
going out for a run. In a similar matter, body health is also as equally important as physical health. Subsequently, body health plays a big role in
everyone's life but a bigger role in teens life. This is because teens are going through many changes during their years. Crazy hormones and
uncontrollable physical appearance changes to the body. Fitness helps bring down all that body chaos to a level where everyone can adjust to.
According to Dan Brennan, "Regular exercise reduces the amount of stress hormones in the body" (Brennan 6). Having stress hormones reduced makes
time for more relaxation. Also stated by Dan Brennan, "Exercise also boosts circulation and the delivery of nutrients to the skin, helping detoxify the
body by removing toxins"(Brennan

Representations Of Queer Characters In Esmeralda De Noche Vos
As one of the most visibly queer characters in Esmeralda de noche vienes, Tito Vasconcelos' multiple appearances throughout the film can represent
how queer identity is represented in Mexican society. Vasconcelos is nameless throughout the entire film, as we see him show up in multiple spaces,
portraying different characters. He appears through various expressions, those ranging from appearing as a feminine woman to a highly macho
charro–showing that queerness quietly exists everywhere in Mexican society. The characters' Vasconcelos plays range from a contrast between male
and female identity and even sometimes to be in between. Although he has many roles in this film, he is often left in the background, without a
speaking role or an introduction. Yet, Vasconcelos' invisibility to other characters in the film, and his strong presence to the viewer offers the audience
a peek into how queerness is taken and handled in Mexico.
In one instance that shows the characters outright neglect over Vasconcelos, follows the conversation the judge has with Esmeralda about her
relationship with a closeted gay man– Jorge Luis. It is later revealed that regardless of his gay identity, Esmeralda has sexual relations with Jorge Luis.
The judge proceeds to ask her if she is afraid of getting AIDS, to which she replies that they always take precautionary measures. As the judge is
interrogating her with a series of questions, of how sex works in that relationship the camera pans out to

Examples Of Foreshadowing In Esmeralda Santiago
The quote "I push my cart away, toward the apples and pears of my adulthood, their nearly seedless ripeness predictable and bittersweet.",
foreshadows the life of Esmeralda as young child and how she grows into young adult taking on responsibilities and the hardships that are involved
with it. This quote also tells the readers that her adulthood is rapidly approaching and she will soon leave behind what she has loved for so long and
become a new woman experiencing a new adventure. Throughout the book, it is relevant that the use of foreshadowing is used. One of the many ways
Santiago does this the short poems written in the beginning of each chapter, they can give a reader an idea of the what the chapters will be about and
the thoughts... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Esmeralda Santiago did an outstanding job creating multiple themes that brought the book all together and gave it a deeper meaning. One theme
that I felt occurred the most often throughout the book was coming of age. But it seemed to be more than that, what I discovered that one theme
was the development of a young girl to a woman, and also truths being revealed about yourself and finding out who you are as a person. The author
depicts this theme throughout the book my telling us readers what Esmeralda, Negi, was thinking about a certain situation and how she felt about
it. The author also does a great job of incorporating this theme in the memoir by showing at the end of the book how much Negi has gone through
and how she has learned and grown from the experience. The characters and settings that are in the book are used to develop the theme by creating
events in the settings that the characters, Esmeralda and her family, have to assess, react, and learn and develop from what happened. This is
what, to me made the book so interesting and added to depth to what the author was trying to say. The theme in the book has definitely impacted
me in some way. It made me realize that there are going to be difficult times in my life, but you can conquer them with persistence and passion.
Also if you are perceived as small, weak, helpless, prove everyone wrong and show them what you can do. Be the best that you can be and that is all
you can do in life. By doing so I feel as long as I try my best and never let anything get me down, I can do

When I Was Puerto Rican Character Analysis
When I Was Puerto Rican is a memoir detailing the author Esmeralda Santiago's life, which began in her native home of Puerto Rico. Macun, a rural
barrio is where she spends the beginning of her childhood, exploring and living off the land. As the novel progresses she constantly moves from place
to place in Puerto Rico because of her parents rocky relationship. Towards the end of the novel as she's getting older her mother decides that it is time
to make the border crossing and move to New York Cityin search of a new and better life for her family. Throughout the novel When I Was Puerto
Rican, coming of age is a resounding factor and her budding maturity helps her to overcome the struggles that she and her family go through in
Puerto Rico as well as during the border crossing and the life that follows. "I push my cart away, towards the apples and pears of my adulthood,
their nearly seedless ripeness predictable and bittersweet" (p. 4), the novel begins with Esmeralda as an adult inspecting a guava at a store in New
York, bringing back memories of her childhood. While reminiscing on her childhood she also refers to the predictability and boringness that comes
with growing into adulthood. The story of her childhood begins in a shack made of tin where her father Pablo, mother Ramona, her two younger
sisters and she live. They live in the barrio of Macun, where she enjoys the freedom and simplicity of life in the countryside, she also takes advantage

Cornell's Esmeralda Case Study
(WEN) – Two weeks ago President Donald Trump signed an executive order to support immigration enforcement and punish local governments that
don't comply with federal authorities. This includes potentially taking away funding for any city that deems itself a sanctuary city.
Back in 2012 President Obama granted protection to immigrants whose families illegally brought them the to United States as children. But many
students are worried about what comes next, as the Trump Administration decides their fate.

Esmeralda's transition from rural Puerto Rico to Brooklyn, New York was a difficult adjustment. Esmeralda was now placed in an unfamiliar
environment. She longed to be at home (in Puerto Rico), where she could feel the grass beneath her feet and the warm air touches her skin, instead, of
the concrete jungle that she is now living in. At first, Brooklyn was a difficult adjustment. However, due to her strong upbringing, independent nature,
and determination Esmeralda was able to navigate this part of her life beautifully. In her narrative, Esmeralda never spoke toracism or racial tension in
Puerto Rico. On the other hand, the environment in New York was totally different. She quickly learned about racial disparity, prejudge, and racism.

The Sad Theme of the Hunchback of Notre Dame
Is always a happy ending? The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a book by Victor Hugo written in 1831. Victor Hugo was born in Besancon, France on
February 26, 1802. The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a French Romantic/Gothic genre book. Hunchback of Notre Dame involves around Quasimodo a
hunchback. The Hunchback of Notre Dame has many different themes. I believe one of the biggest theme is you shouldn't judge based on appearances.
The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a very sad book, but with it being sad there are many great themes such as judgment, and topics like characters,
setting, and plot. Judgment based on appearance is a big theme in The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Quasimodo is very kind hearted, but others
otherwise because his appearance. Quasimodo is described by having "a huge head, bristling with red hair; between his shoulders an enormous hump,
a counterpart perceptible in front; a system of the thighs and legs so strangely astray that they could touch each other only at the knees, and, viewed
from the front, resembled the crescents of two scythes joined by the handles; large feet, monstrous hands" (33). Because of his appearance people treat
him like a monster a terrible, ugly human being, But this isn't true at all Quasimodo is shown to have a sweet personality. Then we have Claude Frollo
the antagonist. Claude is a priest, so you'd think he's a good person, but you are very wrong. Claude is the reason Quasimodo commits violent acts as
Quasimodo does what his father

knew this. He didn't want her marrying a husband a moving away like his sisters did; so he would keep her inside when he could and beat her when
he catches her talking to boys or "acting up." Sally wanted out, and she'd do anything leave. I think Esmeralda says this because she saw what

Throughout his life Frollo tells Quasimodo outright that he is "deformed" and "ugly" and that he should be "grateful" that it is Frollo alone who can

With this in mind, Frollo comes across not only Quasimodo's villainous caretaker and surrogate of society but rather a representation of our inner
demons. He is the voice inside our head telling us that we are not good enough, that we are not worthy while ultimately bringing forth our darkest
insecurities preventing us from seeing anything apart from our personal monstrosities. This is a very telling aspect of human nature in the sense that
we can be overly critical of ourselves – more so than others – although thoughts such as these do not originate at birth and carry forward to
adolescence and so forth, but instead are mainly driven by man made social construct imposed by our peers that influence our feelings such as these.
Today's society looks for a perfect representation with every human being and reject the ones who do not fit this profile. This network of social ideas
that we hold today were not just created yesterday either, but rather have been a recurring throughout most humanities lifespan. People like Quasimodo
have been subjugated long before Disney released The Hunchback of Notre Dame. One of the earliest, and perhaps most tragic well–documented cases
of disfigurement comes from the life of Joseph Merrick, better known as "The

Is Quasimodo In All The Illusion Faded
"All the illusion faded" (58). In this part of the novel, Gringoire is watching Esmeralda among the crowd and is as mesmerized as everyone else.
However, when one of her braids comes undone and a feather falls from within it Gringoire is quickly snapped out of his trance at the realization
that she is a gypsy. This enforces the idea that social classes played a significant role in everyday life and determined social interactions. While
Gringoire is a poor poet that barely has enough money to support himself, even he looks down on Esmeralda as gypsies were frequently accused of
witchcraft and sorcery. While the illusion faded, Gringoire still cannot help but be enchanted by her as does most of the crowd. "Indeed, Quasimodo,
one–eyed, hunchbacked, and bow–legged could hardly be considered anything more than an almost" (143). Hugo describes Quasimodo's appearance
with the most vivid detail which includes "tetrahedron nose, that horseshoe mouth, the small left eye obscured" (46). His description continues to
describe Quasimodo's obsession with the bells and love for Notre Dame. The significance of this quote is in how it ties Quasimodo's appearance to his

I perfectly understand the struggle to get adjusted to a new culture that you don't feel welcome on. I came alone to this country, and I moved with my aunt family. They are different to my nuclear family. They are materialistic, and they care a lot on appearances. My aunt family made me feel as a stranger because I'm not like them. Also, outside the house, I felt classified in a category due to my nationality. When I first enroll in college, the registration personnel assumed that I would fail my English test because I'm Dominican. They were about to not give me a test and register me to a low English class, however, I spoke to them to give me an opportunity and so they did, and I passed. • 2. What Is The Biblical Values In The Hunchback Of Notre Dame The Biblical Presence and Influence on the Movie Hunchback of Notre Dame "But alas, if I have not maintained my victory, it is God's fault for not making man and the devil of equal strength" (Victor Hugo). In our lives, we are always looking for someone to blame, someone to look after us, and someone to make us feel better. Quite often, that someone is God. In The Hunchback of Notre Dame, the characters look to heaven and god for moments of crisis of happiness in their lives. The idea of heaven, sin, and monsters are portrayed in many scenes in the movie. The Hunchback of Notre Dame specifically illustrates concepts from the bible through rejection similar to that of christ, the hypocrisy of the Pharaohs, and basic biblical principles. "No face as hideous as my face was ever meant for heaven's light. But suddenly an angel has smiled at me And kissed my cheek without a trace of fright. I dare to dream that she might even care for me as I ring these bells tonight, my cold dark tower seems so bright" (HND). The hunchback of Notre Dame, Quasimodo, struggles to be accepted by his society for a very long time. He was always an outcast in his society. People saw nothing in him, and failed to value him for his kind heart. He was seen as a monster like creature, who would never encounter love. Jesus Christ, although not seen as hideous, was also rejected by members of his society. Both Jesus and Quasimodo had kindness and love ot offer to the world. Jesus, who claimed he was the ... One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest Important Quotes The quotes that moved the novel forward, and makes one think about the novel are the following: "Then from that eye, hitherto so dry and burning, was seen to roll a big tear, which fell slowly down that deformed visage so long contracted by despair. Perhaps it was the first that the unfortunate creature had ever shed." This is important because this quote happened right when Esmeralda gave Quasimodo the water. He has never had anyone be so kind to him and it made him cry a tear of joy. "It was the first gratification of self–love that he had ever experienced. Until then he had encountered nothing but humiliation, contempt for his condition, and disgust." This quote makes the reader realize that Quasimodo was being humiliated and laughed at ... • 4. Analytical Essay On Edward Scissorhands Edward Scissorhands Analytical Essay Edward Scissorhands explores how difficult it can be to fit in. To what extent do you agree? In the movie, Edward Scissorhands, Tim Burton explores that it can be hard to fit in if you're different. He does this through the three different characters, Edward, Peg and Esmeralda who all have their own reasons for not fitting. While Edward is classified as an outsider because of how he looks, Esmeralda is classified as an outsider because of her beliefs and Peg is an outsider because of how she acts compared to the other townspeople who are gossipy. As soon as Esmeralda is introduced the audience she is depicted as different from the other bright, colourful towns people. The audience first meets Esmeralda... He comes out of the shadows Peg is shocked by his looks. "Oh my! What happened to you?" She asked shocked by his scissor hands. During this the camera shots of Edward are mostly close ups on his face and hands point out his most unique and different features. Edward's clothes throughout the entire movie are tight, black, leather which is very different to the bright colourful town's people's clothes and often these clothes made him stand out which set him apart from the town's people. Edward isn't just set apart by film techniques, he is also very much an outsider to the towns who find him curious. This is shown in a few situations. The main one is at the BBQ when George Monroe meets Edward and asks him to play cards. "Would you like that? The only thing is you can't cut." George said making fun of Edward's differences, something he wouldn't do to a friend. While Edward and Esmeralda are quite different from the town's people, Peg is one of them but struggles to fit in at times because of how she sees things and how she is more ... • 5. Victor Hugo Research Paper In the 1800s, Victor Hugo, a French author, wrote the book The Hunchback of Notre–Dame, which centred on the character Quasimodo. Quasimodo is considered ugly and monstrous, with a hunchback and a wart that covers his eyes. He is also deaf. But why should his handicap matter? In the novel, Hugo uses his disability as a tool to make him more pitiable despite his uncomfortable actions. The same disability can be found in many other classic novels, such as Moby–Dick, by the American writer Herman Melville, or Carson McCullers's work in The Heart is a Lonely Hunter. In fact, deafness is to be seen as a symbol of innocence and pureness in the literary world. However, in a less romanticised version of the loss of hearing that is real life, not being able to hear is a very real problem many people have to deal with everyday. As a matter of fact, deafness is much... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While sensorineural deafness can be the result of tiny hair cells being damaged, this can also occur when the auditory nerve is damaged (Better Hearing Institute, n.d.). Sensorineural deafness changes the ability of hearing faint sound and reduce the intensity of sound, creating difficulties for the person suffers from it to understand others (hearcom, n.d.). The causes of sensorineural deafness may vary, the exposure to loud noises, aging, medicines, illnesses, head trauma, or malformation in the structure of the inner ear are all potential causes (Better Hearing Institute, n.d.). Genetic also play as a role in the cause of sensorineural deafness. While sensorineural hearing loss is irreversible, researchers have found a way to help the patients to be able to hear better. Through a cochlear implant, an electronic device that replaces the function of the damaged inner ear and provide sound signal to the brain, people who suffer from sensorineural hearing loss would be able to hear (cochlear, ... In the first workshop, Garcia used riddles as a pedagogical tool to show how oral tradition has, "produced and reproduced knowledge specific to the region of Esmeraldas" (Johnson, 2014). Johnson (2014) provides an example of one such riddle where he ask listeners to guess an object by citing the following riddle: "Heaven above, heaven below, indispensable for food and good for curing sickness." At the end of the riddle, Garcia cited that the answer to the riddle was indeed the coconut–A fruit that holds significance in the province of Esmeraldas as it a staple in the diet of the locals (Johnson, 2014). However, the significance of the coconut in the region is not merely limited to diet; the people of Esmeraldas also use coconuts to keep repel mosquitoes, repair canoes, and cure sickness. Therefore, the riddle posed by Garcia in the workshop, formed on the collective knowledge of the Esmeraldas community, is meant to educate listeners on the significance of the coconut within the economic and cultural structure of the region and how oral tradition has maintained Afro–Ecuadorians awareness of this resource throughout colonialism to the present(Johnson, 2014). Thus, Garcia in this workshop uses this simple riddle to repudiate principles of the traditional educational model in Ecuador that perpetuate the notion that Afro–Ecuadorians have contributed little or nothing to the ... With television people are exposed to movies, shows, news, cartoons, music, etc. In today's society television has become the main source of information, but most people view television as a means for entertainment (Mitu, 2011). For some people television might be the first platform where they are exposed to a new subject. This exposure might leave its viewers with positive or negative feelings towards a subject. According to Mitu (2011) television has the power to influence or change people's attitudes, behaviors, and feelings towards a certain subject. Examples of disabilities reflected on television can be seen on movies such as The Hunchback of Notre Dame released in 1996, At First Sight (1999), and the TV show The Good Doctor aired in 2017. These movies are representation of how various disabilities are portrayed through the screen and the way in which people react to and deal with the differences that these people experience. The Hunchback of Notre Dame movie tells the story of Quasimodo a deformed man who also has a hunchback, and since he was a baby he has spent his life away from society. • 10. Analysis Of ' I Was A Puerto Rican, By Esmeralda Santiago Question 1 – Foreshadowing "I push my cart away, toward the apples and pears of my adulthood, their nearly seedless ripeness predictable and bittersweet." This quote, and entire prologue, are taken from the memoir When I was a Puerto Rican, by Esmeralda Santiago and they foreshadow that her whole life is changed, just like the fruit she eats and that are in her life. Santiago life is totally turned around in this memoir and the prologue shows that. The author "weaves" foreshadowing into the memoir by showing us how her life changed dramatically and once she came to the United States everything was different, just like fruit here in the United States and in Puerto Rico. The author uses the technique of foreshadowing to give something to look forward to in her story and build suspense and anticipation. Santiago used foreshadowing to show that her life changed and that it changed a lot. Her life is foreshadowed that it will change and that she lets her past go. Leaving her past in the past and moving on with her present and future. Santiago's life was horrible growing up. Her parents did not always get along, their home was not always safe, clean, and good for her and her family, they were always moving, etc. After they moved to New York, a couple years later, her life was changed. She was offered an acting role and then later on went to Harvard with a scholarship. As you can see, she left her past in the past and went on with her amazing new life. When I was a Puerto ... He said that Puerto Ricans that live in New York have to be more Puerto Rican than those living in Puerto Rico so as to keep the culture alive in them and in New York. This statement, it think summarizes what all people of different ethnicity have to deal with when they go to a foreign land and have to learn a new culture. This is why I decided to reflect on the different roles my mother has undertaken in comparison to Negi Negi's mom and me. I found that many of their roles were not very similar to those of Negi or Negi's mom. This could be because they lived in different times. My mother has many roles. She is a mother to four, a wife, a sister to five, a Pentecostal Christian, a member to a church, a friend to many, and a grandmother of one. • 14. Complex Moralities (the Hunchback of Notre Dame) Jessie Harrington Complex Moralities According to Aristotle, for a writer to create an interesting character it must be morally complex, meaning it must consist of not only good or bad morals, but both. Victor Hugo's The Hunchback of Notre Dame has a few examples of this trait in its main characters. Claude Frollo, the priest, shows moral complexity, as he is the novel's antagonist but is also very compassionate in his feelings toward Esmeralda. Phoebus, who is a nobleman, a soldier, and the captain of the King's archers, is also one to cheat on his fiance, Fleur–de–Lys de Gondelaurier, and later ignore his chance to save Esmeralda during her execution. Everyone listening to him laughed at him but Esmeralda gave him water. This is ironic because the reason that he was being whipped was because he attacked Esmeralda, yet she was the only one to show him sympathy and give him water. Quasimodo was so touched by her kind gesture that "from that eye, hitherto so dry and burning, was seen to roll a big tear, which fell slowly down that deformed visage so long contracted by despair" (Hugo 322). From then on Quasimodo became very loyal to Esmeralda. Though this is true, he turns on Frollo, the man who raised him and took him in when he had no one, because he is responsible for Esmeralda's death. During Esmeralda's hanging he couldn't bare the rage, he "took a few steps back from the archdeacon, and then, rushing at him furiously, with his two huge hands, he struck the priest's back and pushed Dom Claude into the abyss over which he had been leaning" (Hugo 300). Though his morals may not have been commendable, his heart and intentions are genuine. Frollo's bad decisions and confusing feelings, Phoebus's corrupt loyalty but heroic stature, and Quasimodo's twisted priorities but kind heart reflect true imperfection of the human spirit. Frank was 9 years old so he was smarter than before thus why this death was brilliantly constructed. The reason Frank killed Esmeralda is because he needed to create 'balance' by killing a 'women' as he has killed 2 'men'. 'I ought to redress the balance at least slightly. My cousin was simply the easiest and most obvious target. Despite his need to create balance that predatory behavior is also what's driven frank to kill Esmeralda. In the wild the predator would go for the 'easiest and most obvious target'. This predatory illustration of Frank is disturbing. Like Paul the reader sympathizes with Esmeralda as she too is young, naГЇve and innocent. Frank is also fond of Esmeralda. His justification of her death like Paul is disturbing as he truly believes in his beliefs to commit these disturbing actions. Again by this Banks satires religion for their strong beliefs leading them to actions he would deem to be foolish. Each death is described thoroughly, which is disturbing as the amount of detail added makes the death somewhat humorous to the reader. When Frank describes his first victim the reader is on franks side as Blyth is presented to a horrible character. However that changes when he describes Paul's death making the reader against franks. This carries on with Esmeralda who is another innocent victim. Despite the negative changes of what the reader views of frank some may enjoy the way he disposes his ... Vasconcelos is nameless throughout the entire film, as we see him show up in multiple spaces, portraying different characters. He appears through various expressions, those ranging from appearing as a feminine woman to a highly macho charro–showing that queerness quietly exists everywhere in Mexican society. The characters' Vasconcelos plays range from a contrast between male and female identity and even sometimes to be in between. The author depicts this theme throughout the book my telling us readers what Esmeralda, Negi, was thinking about a certain situation and how she felt about it. The author also does a great job of incorporating this theme in the memoir by showing at the end of the book how much Negi has gone through and how she has learned and grown from the experience. The characters and settings that are in the book are used to develop the theme by creating events in the settings that the characters, Esmeralda and her family, have to assess, react, and learn and develop from what happened. This is what, to me made the book so interesting and added to depth to what the author was trying to say. The theme in the book has definitely impacted me in some way. It made me realize that there are going to be difficult times in my life, but you can conquer them with persistence and passion. The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a very sad book, but with it being sad there are many great themes such as judgment, and topics like characters, setting, and plot.
