Biographical Essay
*note: certain places and peoples' names have been censored* Essay topic: We are interested in learning more about you and the context in which
you have grown up, formed your aspirations and accomplished your academic successes. Please describe the factors and challenges that have most
shaped your personal life and aspirations. How have these factors caused you to grow? Coming to America was not easy for my parents, especially
considering the fact that I, less than a year old, was with them. We first lived in Michigan for two years and then moved to sunny California into a
one–bedroom apartment in Torrance. I grew up as a happy, carefree kid, oblivious to my parent's... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Slowly, my classes became easier and I did better from not worrying as much about grades. Grades are important in the sense that they serve as a
measure for how well a student does in the subject, but it doesn't demonstrate whether the student actually learned anything. A person should only
take classes that pertains to their interests, not because it looks good on their transcript. As a first generation immigrated adolescent, I have had to
face many challenges whether they are social, personal or academic. However, I have not let that hinder my progress in pursuing my goals of
wanting a better life and helping others. Instead they have slowly made me discover who I am as a person. When I look back on my life, I feel that
I have developed so much as an individual and established a strong set of moral that will continue to support me in the future. The foundation of
principles I build now will determine what kind of person I will become for the rest of my life.
*I'm so sorry to ask this, but could any readers please leave a comment on this essay? I would appreciate some criticism. If you thought it was
horrible, please tell me why and what I can do to improve this. I'm writing this essay for a scholarship program and need all the feedback I can get.

Biographical Criticism Of The Hobbit
Biographical Criticism J.R.R Tolkien, John Ronald Reuel, is a master fantasy writer, known best for his "Lord of the Rings" series as well as "The
Hobbit". His expertise and craft in the genre of make believe stemmed from his real world experiences. These experiences were found in the
landscapes he saw, his hobbies and studies, the various jobs he took, and the people who shaped him. All to create the awe inspiring world of
Middle–Earth and the adventure of "The Hobbit" that takes place within the realm. The first step towards his love of writing with other worlds was
the fascination of linguistics. At a young age, Tolkien, would see all sorts of interesting brand names and odd words which he picked up on, making
him entranced with others speech. The young teen began to master latin and greek and also learned german , which aided him in making his own
languages (Doughan, 2016). Because of these linguistics skills, Tolkien was able to deliver a masterful variety of different languages in the Hobbit like
Black Speech, and the dwarvish runes using the Anglo–Saxon language as inspiration. Another driver in Tolkien's inspiration for "The Hobbit" that
started at a young age is the various landscapes and scenes he was able to observe that stuck with him and was constantly being added to at a young
age. Tolkien was born on the 3rd of January in 1892 in South Africa, but after his father's death due to a serious fever, the young boy was moved to the

Biographical Summary Of Bram Stoker's Dracula
Biographical Summary
Abraham Stoker was born on November 8, 1847, in Clontarf, Ireland, although when his name was to appear on the front cover of the critically
acclaimed gothic horror novel, Dracula, fifty years later, he would have long since adopted an abbreviated version of his name, Bram. When
Stoker was born, he had two older siblings, and would later get into the habit of living with four younger ones. (Novels for Students 23). During his
formative years, he came down with a serious illness, and was confined to his bed for the first seven years of his life. He read a great many books in
the process of recovery, and his mother, Charlotte, often told him disturbing horror stories of sickness, particularly the ravaging effects of the cholera...

While in the company of Henry Irving, Stoker met with some intriguing people, one of which supplied him with Eastern European vampire lore. Over
the next several years, while he was working on Dracula, Stoker conducted a decent amount of research in order to make his literary masterpiece more
authentic. After its publication in 1897, Dracula was generally well–received, but it never earned much money within Stoker's lifetime. He failed at his
attempts to turn it into a theatre production, and the book was not adapted into successful films until over two decades later. After 1997, life for
Stoker and Irving started to go downhill. They lost Lyceum Theatre, and Henry Irving died in 1905. Stoker became gradually lamer and sicker
over the years, but he did not concede his writing career. His 1903 novel, The Jewel of Seven Stars, achieved popularity and success. He also wrote
The Lady of the Shroud, published in 1903, and Famous Imposters, published in 1910. The Lair of the White Worm was published in 1911 when
Stoker was very ill, and hence, this became one of his stranger novels. On April 20, 1912, Bram Stoker died, supposedly of general paresis, but his
legacy of Dracula lived on, well into the twenty–first century

surface and volume of a sphere and its circumscribing cylinder. Archimedes figured out how to find the volume of an object with irregular shape and
came up with the Archimedes principle. A crown had been made for King Hiero II and he wanted Archimedes to determine if the goldsmith had

Biographical Effects Of The Great Gatsby
Biographical effects in The Great Gatsby
F. Scott Fitzgerald lived during the Jazz age, much like his own experiences, Gatsby encountered ambitions, challenges and desires. Through the use of
important events in his own life, F. Scott Fitzgerald reflects his own ambitions such as a trying to find meaning in life Overcoming challenges that
arose with the Jazz age, such as the introduction of liquor, leading to addiction. And desires, including romances and fortune, through the main
character in his novel, The Great Gatsby.
Throughout F. Scott Fitzgerald's life, he struggled to find meaning. He eventually dropped out of Princeton as he was failing many of his classes,
which made him enlist in WW1. Unfortunately he was unable to achieve anything great while fighting overseas. In his novel, the character Jay
Gatsby is an accomplished war hero who even received awards for his bravery. contrast from Scott Fitzgerald, and represents his yearning for
achievement during the war, as Jay Gatsby reminisces with Nick, he flaunts his war achievements, '"I was promoted to be a major, and every major
allied government gave me a decoration–even montenegro... that's the one from Montenegro. 'Major Jay Gatsby' I read, 'For Valour
Extraordinary.'"(35) Gatsby clearly holds impressive titles, however Scott Fitzgerald possessed little opportunity for anything even remotely as
impressive. Jay Gatsby was given the opportunity to study at Oxford University after the war, in contrast to Scott Fitzgerald who dropped out of
Princeton University to fight in the war, to no avail. "It was an opportunity they gave to some of the officers after the Armistice," he continued. "We
could go to any of the universities in England or France."(71) Scott Fitzgerald's ambition for achievement through war or education are reflected
through Jay Gatsby. Scott Fitzgerald lived during the time of the Jazz age, one of the U.S.A's rowdiest time periods. As a result, he got into some bad
habits, including heavy drinking which would eventually become a major factor in the deterioration of his health, this was also during the 20's when

Biographical Analysis of John Mcwhorter

number of people, but there has never been anyone quite like John McWhorter. Upon reading the article "The Cosmopolitan Tongue: The
Universality of English" as published in the 2009 Fall edition of World Affairs, I found myself delighted by the mellow but powerful tone and the
writer who could use it with such ease. Here was a man with brains, consideration, and humor. Lost in my reveries about what McWhorter would be
like, I didn't quite realize that I had somehow dialed his office number until a deep voice filtered through the receiver. "Yes? McWhorter speaking."

These little considerate actions which I had noticed during the phone call and the three minutes I had met him, inspired me to ask if he had
always been so considerate. He looked surprised. "I have never thought myself considerate," he said slowly, "I am often told that I am too frank
with my words. Before I make my opinion on something, I look at it from all perspectives to check that it is perfectly reasonable and logical. But
once I make it, I say it without stopping to think if people who think otherwise will be hurt by my words." I protested. I had already known that he
was a considerate person just by reading his article; namely, the welcoming way with which he drew his readers in: "Most Americans pronounce
disgusting as "diss–kusting" with a k sound. (Try it–you probably do too.)" (McWhorter, 248) The tall man leaned back in the armchair and laughed.
"My dear friend, every writer is obligated to welcome his readers. Readers are the laziest species that ever drew breath, and if they don't feel
welcomed, they won't read. As for being patient in littler things–well, I don't know if this is very relevant or not, but I read five versions of the Talmud,
each one progressively harder, when I was in middle school. I'm pretty sure junior high was when my interest in Hebrew peaked. The Talmud was a
pretty good source of linguistic and cultural knowledge, and some of the moral standards made pretty logical sense, so I adopted them as my own." It

Raging Bull Vs. The Social Network
Raging Bull is a 1980 biographical sports film about boxer Jake LaMotta, directed by Martin Scorsese. The Social Network is a 2010 biographical
film about Mark Zuckerberg and the creation of Facebook, directed by David Fincher. This essay will be an analysis and a comparison of the two
films that seeks to answer the questions: How do the films communicate messages to the viewer? What messages do the communicate? And finally
should films of the biopic genre be viewed as biographical, or should they be viewed as creative works that are not reflective of the people that they
portray?
Before beginning the analytical portion, first a more philosophical discussion about film as an art form. Film is an art form that is experienced by its
receiver over its duration, in that way it is similar to music, and is different from a static art form like paintings. This matters because it alters the way
in which its effect is had on its receiver – the audience. The film is a sequence of shots usually coupled with audio, and the narrative film tells a story.
The story may be delivered sequentially or not, and this choice has implications on how viewers will react. These choices are considered as a part of
film form, choices can also be made about the individual scenes, frames, and sounds as well – which are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Biographical Essay: Women's Suffrage
Biographical Essay In 1850, a suffrage leader stated, "The moment we begin to fear the opinions of others and hesitate to tell the truth that is in us,
and from motives of policy are silent when we should speak, the divine floods of light and life no longer flows into our soul" (Stanton). Equality
between men and women was not present in the 1800's. On June 1848, women's suffrage was being noticed and the Seneca Falls Convention occurred.
Elizabeth Cady Stanton alongside with Lucretia Mott started the convention to begin the seventy year struggle to have the right to vote. Elizabeth

Stanton, who was an abolitionist just like Elizabeth. From the marriage, Elizabeth was able to encounter Lucretia Mott at an Anti–Slavery convention,
who was a Quaker minister, feminist, and abolitionist. As Elizabeth was raising a family, she was still determined to fight for women's right. Elizabeth
wanted to fight for the right to vote, gender–neutral divorce laws, the right to refuse a husband, increased economic opportunities, and as well as, the
right to serve on jury. In 1848, Elizabeth felt like the next step to gain focus on the current issues for women, there needed to be a public discussion and
protest, thus the Seneca Falls Convention was created. Three hundred women including Elizabeth and Lucretia Mott gathered at Seneca Falls, New
York for the first national women's right convention. The Seneca FallsDeclaration of Sentiments was created at the convention; its purpose was to
demand moral rights to women. The Seneca Falls Declaration of Sentiments states, "We hold these truths to be self–evident; that all men and women
are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights... women do feel themselves aggrieved, oppressed, and
fraudulently deprived of their most sacred rights, we insist that they have immediate admission to all the rights and privileges which belong to them as
citizens of these United States" (National Park). The Declaration of Sentiment was the starting step for women's right. Elizabeth Cady Stanton
continued her work towards the goals of correct women's rights. She spent her whole life fighting for suffrage and the moral rights towards women.
Elizabeth wrote several books like, The Women's Bible and The History of Women's Suffrage. Elizabeth Cady Stanton died on October 26, 1902 in
New York. Elizabeth started the steps for women to be "equal" to men and without those steps she started, women rights wouldn't be what it

One Crazy Summer: Biographical Criticism
I used to think biographical criticism was false. I use to believe it was wrong to look into the authors like an try to connect the bits and pieces
together, to assume their writing was a reflection to their lives, almost like a mirror. When I decided to turn against what i thought and look into
how they might connect i made a discovery. Not only do the characters in the story connect to the author's life, but even objects or buildings can
serve a huge purpose. When i read the book One Crazy Summer by Rita Williams Garcia this summer i didn't see the book for anything more than
a great story with a powerful lesson. But after i read some of Rita's biography i saw that she based some of her characters and situations from the
book. For instance according to the biography of Rita Williams Garcia by Rutgers students; Susan Pais, Phyllis Brown, and Ann Gartner it states "My
mother, Mrs. Essie, is perhaps the grand figure in my life, mainly because she frightened me, made me laugh, and loved to paint things in weird

staunch support for the defense of Israel, and the annihilation of ISIL.
Major Ideas.
Broadly defined, neo–conservativism advocates the assertive promotion of democracy and US national interests through military supremacy and
interventionist foreign policy. It places the United States as the overseer of international peace. With this in mind, Mr. Kristol promotes three major
concepts. First, American internationalism, also referred to as "exceptionalism," is the belief that America's mission goes beyond policing to provide a
model for the rest of the world. Mr. Kristol advances his argument by pointing to Presidents Truman, Kennedy, and Regan. Common to all was the
belief that the security and survival of the United States

Biographical Narrative: Thomas Jefferson
The Declaration of Independence is a symbol of the birth of this nation, but also of the constant struggle to achieve its ideals. Ideals like "Life, Liberty
and the Pursuit of Happiness", the unalienable rights of the United States. The document also states that "it's the right of the people to abolish it and
institute a new government" whenever the government becomes destructive of the unalienable rights. I think it's safe to say that Thomas Jefferson
didn't just intend for the document to be read for the people to follow through with its words. However there is no mention of slavery or black people,
or even women for that matter, on this primitive statement on the equal rights of man, and it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He believed they should be continually pushed westward, which makes me wonder what he believes should happen when they hit the pacific.
Thomas Jefferson created a policy which ended all foreign trade. Jefferson's embargo caused an 80% decrease in exports and massive unemployment
soon followed. It was so awful, that people were literally starving. This is perhaps the only time in the US where people were forced into starvation
solely because of a government policy. Jefferson obsessed over this embargo. The attempt to stop all smuggling of exports and imports became so
insistent that people were searched, arrested, and imprisoned without any arrest warrants. Boats, carts, and even individuals on the roads were subject
to these unconstitutional searches and arrests. Thomas jefferson contradicted himself constantly. He is who wrote the foundation of this country
molding its future with his words. It is no wonder that nowadays unalienable rights are violated, because not even the man who wrote them down had
the audacity of following through with what the document stated.
Jefferson was not scared to use lawsuits against people he didn't like. When newspapers would write unfavorable (and usually true) things about him,
he would attempt to sue for libel. In society today many are told they are not allowed to speak their minds and state their opinion whenever it is not

Example Of A Biographical Essay
In my church's charity event, I stand behind a microphone and a music stand. My ears hear clamorous noises. I am waiting for what seems like an
eternity. To my left, I hear high–pitched vocal warm–ups. To my right I hear blasting and loud eruptions from the tuning of instruments that vibrate the
stage. At a distance I hear low beats and piercing crashes, with occasional hums and heels of bass. Finally, it is time to start. I cough a little to prepare
my voice. The whole ensemble sits in silence, observing and anticipating. I see the rhythm of the director's hands moving in a beat to give us singers the
tempo. All at once, an army of voices starts singing in harmony. On my left, I hear a perfect euphony of high–pitched and low–pitched singing. ... Show

Singing and music has followed me throughout my life. Not so soon after, I began to embark on an expedition of music.Music notes fascinate me
in an artistic sense. While I perform songs, I also figure out how the arrangements of various music notes compose the song's melody. To me, it's
not just singing something for the sake of singing. I feel a connection to my heart when the lyrics I perform are deep and personal. I feel dominant
when I stand on the stage, facing a crowd, ready to give it my all. Singing for me it is not just a hobby, and not something I just do when I am
bored. Singing a way to loosen up my heart, to stop stressing, and to just go with the flow. There is something so satisfying about singing my heart

Biographical Appropriate To Edgar Allan Poe
Is A Biographical Approach Appropriate to Edgar Allan Poe A biographical approach is relevant to Poe's work for many reasons. First of all, a
biographical approach is taking the author's life and experiences into consideration to help interpret his work. For example, motifs that Poe uses in
his stories relate to his own life. Poe did indeed drink due to his depression and this did not help him keeping a job. In "Hop Frog" the King forced
Hop Frog to drink wine. In The Mask of the Red Death it read "there was wine." The most frequent motif in Poe's work is death. Poe's biological
mother and wife both died in his lifetime. Also both his mother and wife died from tuberculosis which is a disease in the lungs. Tuberculosis was not

Faulkner grew up in Oxford, Mississippi where he remained except for brief trips to New Orleans, some youthful wanderings, and a few years in the
Royal Air Force. After a promising start as a student, Faulkner began to lose interest and to do poorly in school when he entered his teens. It was at
this time that he began to write poetry and short stories. In high school, he was more interested in sports and extracurricular activities than in his
studies. The pattern of his writing's was based upon what he saw in Oxford or remembered from his childhood; or scraps of family tradition, or in
stories told by men in overalls, squatting on their heels while they passed around a fruit jar of corn liquor. All of his stories can be linked together
to tell one big story of how he saw his family life, and how time has changed the South. The characters in most of his stories reflect upon real life
people whom he shared his love for as a child and as an adult.
As a young boy, Faulkner would go hunting with friends. One of his favorite places to go was The Mississippi Delta. These hunting grounds provided
a background for some of William Faulkner's stories (Watkins 25). During his outings with another hunters, Faulkner would often sit and listen to the

Biographical Summary
Jonathan Swift was born in the land of Dublin, Ireland on November 30th, 1667. Swift was born to English parents, Jonathan and Abigale Swift.
Unfortunately, Swift's father passed away before his son's birth. At the age of three, Swift was raised by his late father's family.
He attended Kilkenny Grammar School with fellow student William Congreve, who would later become a dramatist. From there, Swift moved on
to attend Trinity College in Dublin and Hart Hall in Oxford. Swift would acquire his MA from both school in a span of six years (Mossner). In
1698, Swift moved to England to be Sir William Temple's secretary at Moor Park in Surrey. At Moor Park, Swift met a young, nine year old girl
name Esther Johnson. He called her "Stella". Swift started off as Stella's tutor, and they would become "lifelong" friends. Some people have been led
to believe that in 1716, Jonathan Swift and Stella Johnson were married; however, there is no evidence to prove such accusations. Swift left
Temple's aid in 1694 but shortly returned two years later. In the two years that he was away from Moor Park, Swift was part of the "Anglican
division of the Irish church" in Dublin (Dewald). Upon his return in 1696 a new path for his future was soon to be discovered. Swift started as an
editor of Temple 's letters and then began to write his first works. Both works, The Tale of a Tub and The Battle of the Books, were eventually
published in 1704 (Dewald). These works are just the

In the film, someone asked Harvey to help boycott the beer company Coors from the bars and they were successfully because other people trusted
Harvey and were willing to help him. In the end Harvey knows they would return the favor if he ever needed it. Its political tactics like these that
helped Harvey successfully start a movement for gay and lesbian rights. Another bigger tactic was towards the end of the movie Milk was
discussing with Mayor George Moscone of the issue of reinstating Dan White as city supervisor and Harvey threatened Moscone by telling him
that he would lose the gay community's' support in his next election. It goes to show that Harvey Milk has a great amount of power. He was able
to persuade the Mayor Moscone's decision because he know that the support of the gay community and Harvey's influence was huge so losing that
would mean he would potentially lose the election. However, being gay and being the first to challenge the social norms of what society views as
the right way created many problems for Harvey Milk and the gay community. One consequence he faced as a politician is the threats he received on
his life. In the film he received a drawing of his genitals being cut off but he used that drawing as a motivation to keep up his work. Despite the
threats, he knew other gay people were in harsher conditions and did not want young gays to go through what he experienced. Another consequence he
faced as a politician was he had to

Biographical Interpretation Essay
Many people view poems and other pieces of writing in different ways, there is no wrong or right way to interpret a work of someone, it merely
your point of view; your opinions. In Sylvia Plath's poem "Daddy", many could say that it was a about a hard relationship she had with her father, but
how do we know? It could be about her father, husband, strong authority figure, or even God. But, as I read "Daddy" I got the strong sense that it was
mostly about her father. The poem suggests that she had either an unhealthy relationship with him or she was angry with him for leaving her. In the
poem, Plath says "I have always been scared of you" (41); I view this as she may not have had the best relationship with him. Maybe he was abusive or
mean. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"Daddy" is a poem where Plath expressed her most personal feelings about her father and ultimately her husband also. In the poem, when Plath writes
"And then I knew what to do. / I made a model of you, / A man in black with a Meinkampf look." (63–65). It suggests that she possibly actually went
to her father's grave and maybe she tried to dig up her father's bones to prove to her that he was really dead. Or, possibly these lines mean that she
married someone who was a lot like him. She married someone who she could look at every day and who reminds her of her father. But, if this poem
is about her sad relationship with him, why would she want to be reminded of him every day? This only makes me come to the conclusion that she did
not have a horrible relationship with him, she was just angry with him for leaving her, for dying. As you can tell there can be many different
interpretations for Sylvia Plath's poem "Daddy". I believe that this poem is about Sylvia, who is angry with her father for dying and leaving her
behind, who wants to express her feelings towards this in a poem. She writes deep, dark, meaningful, thoughts on her emotions and her actions to get
back to him. I think that this poem is very unique in the way that she describes her life in the poem; she goes from when he died to when she was
thirty, and along the way uses many analogies to describe her feelings. She also uses many symbolic phrases that could

Biographical Criticism In The Bear By William Faulkner
"He had listened to it for years: the long legend of corncribs rifled, of shoats and grown pigs and even calves carried bodily into the woods and
devoured" (Faulkner 152). The story that was given for the leadership project was The Bear by William Faulkner and is being looked at through
the biographical criticism lens. The author, William was alive from September 25th, 1897 to July 6th, 1962, he spent most of his life down in the
South and "came from an old southern family" (nobelprize.org). William was born and raised in Albany, Mississippi by a slave named Caroline Barr
from the time he was born to the time he left his house. Due to him being raised in the South and having Caroline raise him, influenced many of his
stories and political opinions on race. The bear in the story and Sam Fathers both represent people and unreachable yet desired things in William
Faulkner's life.
Sam Fathers is based on Caroline Barr from William's life. Sam Fathers symbolizes Caroline Barr in the author's life. Caroline Barr, a slave, "she
raised him from birth until the day he left home and was fundamental for his development", she was also the one to teach William the differences
between right and wrong. In the story, Sam Fathers is teaching the boy fundamental and well needed tasks at the time, an example of this is him
teaching the boy how to shoot and hold a gun by informing him that "[he wants him] to learn how to [shoot]" (Faulkner 152). The simple comparison is

5.On February 11, 1963, just under a month after she published The Bell Jar, Sylvia Plath committed suicide ("Sylvia Plath Biography").
Sylvia Plath and Esther Greenwood are two very similar people: Both women worked as a guest editor the summer before they attempted to take their
life through similar means and both eventually recovered after treatment in a mental health facility. The tone of her final novel is one of depression
and sadness which stems from the fact that Sylvia Plath wrote it while she was deeply depressed after the departure of her husband. The events in The

Tracing Life's Challenges

  • 1. Biographical Essay *note: certain places and peoples' names have been censored* Essay topic: We are interested in learning more about you and the context in which you have grown up, formed your aspirations and accomplished your academic successes. Please describe the factors and challenges that have most shaped your personal life and aspirations. How have these factors caused you to grow? Coming to America was not easy for my parents, especially considering the fact that I, less than a year old, was with them. We first lived in Michigan for two years and then moved to sunny California into a one–bedroom apartment in Torrance. I grew up as a happy, carefree kid, oblivious to my parent's... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Slowly, my classes became easier and I did better from not worrying as much about grades. Grades are important in the sense that they serve as a measure for how well a student does in the subject, but it doesn't demonstrate whether the student actually learned anything. A person should only take classes that pertains to their interests, not because it looks good on their transcript. As a first generation immigrated adolescent, I have had to face many challenges whether they are social, personal or academic. However, I have not let that hinder my progress in pursuing my goals of wanting a better life and helping others. Instead they have slowly made me discover who I am as a person. When I look back on my life, I feel that I have developed so much as an individual and established a strong set of moral that will continue to support me in the future. The foundation of principles I build now will determine what kind of person I will become for the rest of my life. *I'm so sorry to ask this, but could any readers please leave a comment on this essay? I would appreciate some criticism. If you thought it was horrible, please tell me why and what I can do to improve this. I'm writing this essay for a scholarship program and need all the feedback I can get. Thank ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Biographical Criticism Of The Hobbit Biographical Criticism J.R.R Tolkien, John Ronald Reuel, is a master fantasy writer, known best for his "Lord of the Rings" series as well as "The Hobbit". His expertise and craft in the genre of make believe stemmed from his real world experiences. These experiences were found in the landscapes he saw, his hobbies and studies, the various jobs he took, and the people who shaped him. All to create the awe inspiring world of Middle–Earth and the adventure of "The Hobbit" that takes place within the realm. The first step towards his love of writing with other worlds was the fascination of linguistics. At a young age, Tolkien, would see all sorts of interesting brand names and odd words which he picked up on, making him entranced with others speech. The young teen began to master latin and greek and also learned german , which aided him in making his own languages (Doughan, 2016). Because of these linguistics skills, Tolkien was able to deliver a masterful variety of different languages in the Hobbit like Black Speech, and the dwarvish runes using the Anglo–Saxon language as inspiration. Another driver in Tolkien's inspiration for "The Hobbit" that started at a young age is the various landscapes and scenes he was able to observe that stuck with him and was constantly being added to at a young age. Tolkien was born on the 3rd of January in 1892 in South Africa, but after his father's death due to a serious fever, the young boy was moved to the West Midlands in ... • 5. Biographical Summary Of Bram Stoker's Dracula Biographical Summary Abraham Stoker was born on November 8, 1847, in Clontarf, Ireland, although when his name was to appear on the front cover of the critically acclaimed gothic horror novel, Dracula, fifty years later, he would have long since adopted an abbreviated version of his name, Bram. When Stoker was born, he had two older siblings, and would later get into the habit of living with four younger ones. (Novels for Students 23). During his formative years, he came down with a serious illness, and was confined to his bed for the first seven years of his life. He read a great many books in the process of recovery, and his mother, Charlotte, often told him disturbing horror stories of sickness, particularly the ravaging effects of the cholera... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While in the company of Henry Irving, Stoker met with some intriguing people, one of which supplied him with Eastern European vampire lore. Over the next several years, while he was working on Dracula, Stoker conducted a decent amount of research in order to make his literary masterpiece more authentic. After its publication in 1897, Dracula was generally well–received, but it never earned much money within Stoker's lifetime. He failed at his attempts to turn it into a theatre production, and the book was not adapted into successful films until over two decades later. After 1997, life for Stoker and Irving started to go downhill. They lost Lyceum Theatre, and Henry Irving died in 1905. Stoker became gradually lamer and sicker over the years, but he did not concede his writing career. His 1903 novel, The Jewel of Seven Stars, achieved popularity and success. He also wrote The Lady of the Shroud, published in 1903, and Famous Imposters, published in 1910. The Lair of the White Worm was published in 1911 when Stoker was very ill, and hence, this became one of his stranger novels. On April 20, 1912, Bram Stoker died, supposedly of general paresis, but his legacy of Dracula lived on, well into the twenty–first century ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Scott Fitzgerald reflects his own ambitions such as a trying to find meaning in life Overcoming challenges that arose with the Jazz age, such as the introduction of liquor, leading to addiction. Upon reading the article "The Cosmopolitan Tongue: The Universality of English" as published in the 2009 Fall edition of World Affairs, I found myself delighted by the mellow but powerful tone and the writer who could use it with such ease. Here was a man with brains, consideration, and humor. These little considerate actions which I had noticed during the phone call and the three minutes I had met him, inspired me to ask if he had always been so considerate. He looked surprised. "I have never thought myself considerate," he said slowly, "I am often told that I am too frank with my words. Before I make my opinion on something, I look at it from all perspectives to check that it is perfectly reasonable and logical. But once I make it, I say it without stopping to think if people who think otherwise will be hurt by my words." I protested. I had already known that he was a considerate person just by reading his article; namely, the welcoming way with which he drew his readers in: "Most Americans pronounce disgusting as "diss–kusting" with a k sound. (Try it–you probably do too.)" (McWhorter, 248) The tall man leaned back in the armchair and laughed. "My dear friend, every writer is obligated to welcome his readers. Readers are the laziest species that ever drew breath, and if they don't feel welcomed, they won't read. As for being patient in littler things–well, I don't know if this is very relevant or not, but I read five versions of the Talmud, each one progressively harder, when I was in middle school. The Social Network is a 2010 biographical film about Mark Zuckerberg and the creation of Facebook, directed by David Fincher. This essay will be an analysis and a comparison of the two films that seeks to answer the questions: How do the films communicate messages to the viewer? What messages do the communicate? And finally should films of the biopic genre be viewed as biographical, or should they be viewed as creative works that are not reflective of the people that they portray? Before beginning the analytical portion, first a more philosophical discussion about film as an art form. Film is an art form that is experienced by its receiver over its duration, in that way it is similar to music, and is different from a static art form like paintings. This matters because it alters the way in which its effect is had on its receiver – the audience. The film is a sequence of shots usually coupled with audio, and the narrative film tells a story. The story may be delivered sequentially or not, and this choice has implications on how viewers will react. In 1848, Elizabeth felt like the next step to gain focus on the current issues for women, there needed to be a public discussion and protest, thus the Seneca Falls Convention was created. Three hundred women including Elizabeth and Lucretia Mott gathered at Seneca Falls, New York for the first national women's right convention. The Seneca FallsDeclaration of Sentiments was created at the convention; its purpose was to demand moral rights to women. The Seneca Falls Declaration of Sentiments states, "We hold these truths to be self–evident; that all men and women are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights... women do feel themselves aggrieved, oppressed, and fraudulently deprived of their most sacred rights, we insist that they have immediate admission to all the rights and privileges which belong to them as citizens of these United States" (National Park). I use to believe it was wrong to look into the authors like an try to connect the bits and pieces together, to assume their writing was a reflection to their lives, almost like a mirror. When I decided to turn against what i thought and look into how they might connect i made a discovery. Not only do the characters in the story connect to the author's life, but even objects or buildings can serve a huge purpose. When i read the book One Crazy Summer by Rita Williams Garcia this summer i didn't see the book for anything more than a great story with a powerful lesson. But after i read some of Rita's biography i saw that she based some of her characters and situations from the book. Jefferson obsessed over this embargo. The attempt to stop all smuggling of exports and imports became so insistent that people were searched, arrested, and imprisoned without any arrest warrants. Boats, carts, and even individuals on the roads were subject to these unconstitutional searches and arrests. Thomas jefferson contradicted himself constantly. He is who wrote the foundation of this country molding its future with his words. It is no wonder that nowadays unalienable rights are violated, because not even the man who wrote them down had the audacity of following through with what the document stated. Dan White, a city supervisor, assassinated Milk along with the mayor at the time George Moscone. Harvey Milk's journey to become a member of the board was a difficult one. In the film, someone asked Harvey to help boycott the beer company Coors from the bars and they were successfully because other people trusted Harvey and were willing to help him. In the end Harvey knows they would return the favor if he ever needed it. Its political tactics like these that helped Harvey successfully start a movement for gay and lesbian rights. Another bigger tactic was towards the end of the movie Milk was discussing with Mayor George Moscone of the issue of reinstating Dan White as city supervisor and Harvey threatened Moscone by telling him that he would lose the gay community's' support in his next election. It goes to show that Harvey Milk has a great amount of power. He was able to persuade the Mayor Moscone's decision because he know that the support of the gay community and Harvey's influence was huge so losing that would mean he would potentially lose the election. However, being gay and being the first to challenge the social norms of what society views as the right way created many problems for Harvey Milk and the gay community. One consequence he faced as a politician is the threats he received on his life. In the film he received a drawing of his genitals being cut off but he used that drawing as a motivation to keep up his work. Despite the threats, he knew other gay people were in harsher conditions and did not want young gays to go through what he experienced. Another consequence he faced as a politician was he had to ... • 35. Biographical Interpretation Essay Many people view poems and other pieces of writing in different ways, there is no wrong or right way to interpret a work of someone, it merely your point of view; your opinions. In Sylvia Plath's poem "Daddy", many could say that it was a about a hard relationship she had with her father, but how do we know? It could be about her father, husband, strong authority figure, or even God. But, as I read "Daddy" I got the strong sense that it was mostly about her father. The poem suggests that she had either an unhealthy relationship with him or she was angry with him for leaving her. In the poem, Plath says "I have always been scared of you" (41); I view this as she may not have had the best relationship with him. Maybe he was abusive or mean. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Daddy" is a poem where Plath expressed her most personal feelings about her father and ultimately her husband also. In the poem, when Plath writes "And then I knew what to do. / I made a model of you, / A man in black with a Meinkampf look." (63–65). It suggests that she possibly actually went to her father's grave and maybe she tried to dig up her father's bones to prove to her that he was really dead. Or, possibly these lines mean that she married someone who was a lot like him. She married someone who she could look at every day and who reminds her of her father. But, if this poem is about her sad relationship with him, why would she want to be reminded of him every day? This only makes me come to the conclusion that she did not have a horrible relationship with him, she was just angry with him for leaving her, for dying. As you can tell there can be many different interpretations for Sylvia Plath's poem "Daddy". I believe that this poem is about Sylvia, who is angry with her father for dying and leaving her behind, who wants to express her feelings towards this in a poem. She writes deep, dark, meaningful, thoughts on her emotions and her actions to get back to him. I think that this poem is very unique in the way that she describes her life in the poem; she goes from when he died to when she was thirty, and along the way uses many analogies to describe her feelings. She also uses many symbolic phrases that could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She told us she found a new way of finding her car when she forgot where she parked. She proceeded to sound the car alarm in the parking garage until we located the vehicle. We got a few strange looks and Marshall and I were completely embarrassed, yet she could not have cared less.
