2. WHAT IS IT ???
Atrial septal defect (ASD) is a congenital heart defect in which
blood flows between the atria (upper chambers) of the heart.
Normally, the atria are separated by a dividing wall, the interatrial
septum.
Congenital heart defect (CHD), also known as a
congenital heart anomaly or congenital heart
disease, is a problem in the structure of the heart.
• The ASD is an illness that affects kids.
• It is found in the atria (heart).
• As you know, the “wall” that separes the atrium is called septum.

4. SYMPTOMS
Symptoms that do occur may begin at
any time after birth through childhood.
They can include:
1.Difficulty breathing (dyspnea)
2.Frequent respiratory infections in children
3.Feeling the heart beat palpitations in adults
4.Shortness of breath with activity
5. DEFECTS:
• Blood from both atria mixes
• It can produce other heart illnesses such as
stroke or lung illnesses.

7. SOLUTIONS
• If the hole is small, it can close on its own.
• If it is big, you should go to the cardiology
pediatrician.
8. CURIOSITIES:
• It is more common in girls than in boys.
• If you have this illness your heart produces a
murmur.
• In adults the hole is 6 mm
• In kids is 4 mm
• 1 of 1000 babies are born with ASD
