No jumper is a podcast / interview YouTube channel in which adam22 (the host)
brings in artists on the come up in for interviews to get a more in depth look at how
and why they make music. The setup for the podcast is very simple as it is just a
camera sat on a bipod in a way you can see the whole table and all of the people
including the extras if they are there. This means its easy for anyone to produce and
doesn’t have a high skill level for entry, editing it wouldn't be hard too as it may only
need a few cuts depending on what's said, the length or if there is periods that aren’t
interesting. The style of the podcast is much more face to face with one another and
in an interview style.
The techniques being used for the podcast are very simple as the entire video is
made with just a camera, bipod, host and the guests. There is very simple editing if
any as most of these podcast interviews are raw and uncut which makes it feel as
though the viewer is getting everything and nothing is held back. Even from my own
experience making a podcast is simple the main thing needed is a interesting
interviewee.
The no jumper podcast is mostly interviews and is known for it, they do also have
other content, but it is mostly focused the artist and their music career, drama, life
etc. but with this it shows I would need a comfortable environment for the
interviewee and have the camera set up correctly to capture the location and the
artist in full.
Hot ones is a podcast which is also in a interview style but with varying and popular
guests like celebrity's or music artists etc. It is produced up to higher standard with
multiple camera angles of each person and a wide angle to capture both people, it
could be made by anyone but maybe not up to the same standard as hot ones has a
big team and is a large and well-known channel by now due to the scale of the
celebrities that have been hosted such as Steve-o , Gordon Ramsay, lil yachty etc.
The unique and stand out factor for hot ones is the challenge involved, which is the
progressively hotter wings that they eat whist the presenter Sean Evans asks the
host questions about their life, career and personal life. There is a very laid-back
start, and it progressively gets more intense as the heat picks up making it also more
intensity for the viewer keeping them tied in on the screen. The show is being made
on YouTube as that is the biggest sharing platform for videos giving it the largest
reach to an audience. The methods used are close-ups, wide angles and also having
a minimalist look which keep the focus on the interview and challenge. From
personal experience these three methos work very well together as it keep the
viewer tied into what is being presented.
The content mostly does revolve around the interview and the challenge working as
one and gradually getting more intense with more personal questions which in turn
keeps the viewer hooked as they want to get to know their favourite celebrity's a bit
more and want to dee their reaction to the hot wings.
The Theo von podcast : this past weekend is a much more light-hearted and comedic take on a
podcast as he himself is a comedian and his interviewees range from music artist, celebrity's,
psychologist etc. It's produced like most podcasts with a slightly better quality with it having
one wide angle camera for a shot of both people with and two close-up cameras for each
person, microphones are also given to make audio quality better also. It’s a simple set-up
making it accessible for anyone to make just depends on who they can interview and if
contacts are available. It also fills the niche of darker comedy too as Theo is known to have
some dark humour broadening his reach for audience.
This past weekend defiantly has a closer to the audience feel as the relationships between
Theo and the guests are usually strong and he has reoccurring guests just to catch up with
them and to give the audience a catch up with him making it feel inclusive but also welcoming
with the humour and jokes shared back and forth. The set also ties into this as it has a very
home feel and looks like it is done in a spare room with artwork in the background and other
household decorations such as plants and a medal belt. It also caters towards a more mature
audience due to some of the content and darker humour but could be enjoyed by multiple
ages as comedy has no boundaries. The same methods are used in here as the others with the
close ups on each individual and a wide shot, but I think this is a common occurrence because
it works the best and is a tried-and-true method. The This weekend podcast is a mix of
interviews and a podcast as some of the guests are reoccurring which I would consider more
of a podcast but with new guests I would consider that an interview as Theo is getting to know
the guest as we do to.
The masked gorilla podcast is like no jumper but on a smaller scale as it is interviews but with
strictly underground artists who aren't on the come-up fully but are getting traction and a
bigger audience. It's produced with only one wide camera angle of both the host and guests,
but it does have some sections cut out in which they turn into smaller videos for people who
may only want to know a specific detail. Yet again anyone could produce this especially this
style as it focuses on the underground scene specifically meaning you could interview any new
/ underground artist with a bit of traction. This also gives the podcast a niche of the
underground rap scene which is usually has a dedicated audience giving the masked gorilla
podcast a unique and dedicated audience.
The masked gorilla is done in a very raw and basic style which works in its favour as it feels
more raw and real with it only being one angle and just a raw uncut interview for 30 – 60
minuets, with this though I feel it is defiantly more appropriate and targeted towards a younger
audience as that is what the underground scene is mostly occupied by and especially the artist
the host interviews are more targeted towards a younger audience.
The masked gorilla podcast is made with only one camera with a wide angle shot of both the
host and guest which makes it simpler and raw and from experience it does make it easier but
maybe feels less involving for the audience.
The masked gorilla podcast mostly focused on interviews of underground artists that are
starting to make some traction but not as much as the ones who may be on no jumper giving
them a platform to talk and humanise them more.
The cufboys show is a podcast that is mostly with the two hosts and then occasionally a
guest interview or just a guest to join them giving them a bit more diversity on what they
can talk about. It's produced by the two friends who use one camera with a wide angle of
the full table. And like all the others this could be made by anyone especially this one as it
could just be you and a friend. The style of the cufboys podcast is very relatable and
welcoming as it is just two friends talking about trending topics in music, clothes, news etc
or even interviewing some upcoming artists too. Id does cater towards a broader audience
as it doesn’t just focus on interviews and could be watched by anyone as you can pick and
choose what type of episode you want to watch. They also sometimes decorate the studio
depending on the occasion making it feel more real and lived in rather than just a studio
and along with the tv which they usually have something playing on I the background.
The cufboys show podcast is made by the two hosts who are friends and one camera with a
wide angle of the whole table to get everything in frame making it a simple set up and easy
to do process.
In the cufboys show there is a mixture of content as they don’t just do interviews, they also
do episodes that are just the two of them talking about topics, doing challenges etc which
gives them a lot of good variety for their viewers to choose from, but when they do
interviews, its usually upcoming artists such as ekkstacy which they interviewed not long
ago.
Research summary:
• Have a welcoming environment
• Multiple angles for cameras
• Multiple cameras
• Microphones
• Have extra content to keep the viewer intrigued (challenge, small performance, footage of shows)

It's produced by the two friends who use one camera with a wide angle of the full table. And like all the others this could be made by anyone especially this one as it could just be you and a friend. The style of the cufboys podcast is very relatable and welcoming as it is just two friends talking about trending topics in music, clothes, news etc or even interviewing some upcoming artists too. Id does cater towards a broader audience as it doesn’t just focus on interviews and could be watched by anyone as you can pick and choose what type of episode you want to watch. They also sometimes decorate the studio depending on the occasion making it feel more real and lived in rather than just a studio and along with the tv which they usually have something playing on I the background. The cufboys show podcast is made by the two hosts who are friends and one camera with a wide angle of the whole table to get everything in frame making it a simple set up and easy to do process. In the cufboys show there is a mixture of content as they don’t just do interviews, they also do episodes that are just the two of them talking about topics, doing challenges etc which gives them a lot of good variety for their viewers to choose from, but when they do interviews, its usually upcoming artists such as ekkstacy which they interviewed not long ago.

Editor's Notes

  1. Context affects what is produced, how it is produced and who can produce it. Technology is part of the context. Early fanzines were hand made because there was no InDesign or Photoshop. Web-series simply didn’t exist because the web didn’t exist. People who don’t have access to jobs in mainstream media, to become journalists or editors, might produce work independently of that system. People who don’t see themselves or their interests being represented in mainstream media, might produce something that represents them or their social group. The political situation will influence what someone decides to make. The cultural situation will influence what people make. Every media text is a product of its environment, just like people. Style: The way in which something is said, done, expressed, or performed. The combination of distinctive features of literary or artistic expression, execution, or performance  characterizing a particular person, group, school, or era. For example, a podcast could be two people talking, it could be interviews and a voice over, it could just be a recording of a teaching session… how it is done, is the style. Techniques: How are these things being made? What methods are being used? Find out and also use your own experience. For example, is a fanzine being hand written or word processed? How do people making a web series set up their shooting spaces? The more you can find out about technique, the more you can get ideas for your own work. Content: The material, including text and images, that constitutes a publication or document. What is actually in this product? Break it down. Is it interviews, monologues, reviews, instructions… Identify the different types of content in the items you research, to help your own ideas.
