8. Adventure film idea 1

banes family who also ran the local fisheries by the coast which have now gone into disrepair. Demi , the youngest of
the family wonders off into the backyard, a large forest shrouds the sky for miles , upon his adventure he finds an old
crypt with a coffin placed right n the middle. His curiosity peaks and he tries to force open the coffin to no avail. He
leaves and upon his first steps outside a crash echoes past him reverbing from the walls of the crypt and a crash of the
roof is heard, bricks flail n the air with a shrouded black figure disappearing along with them. Later that night a report of
20 dead construction workers is air saying they all had their blood drained from their necks, a knock at the door carries
itself through the empty halls , a figure doused in black and stained with red with a pale set face and black sunken eyes ,
the creature exclaims â I apollo banes am homeâ

pierces through Marcuse's wife's neck . Everyone freezes. In horror as the blood pools and paints the walls red. 3 figures
drenched in the black mist come into view the mask of a spider, a hawk, and in front brandishing a crossbow push forward
to the window as the family cower and watch in fear.

12. Existing Product
Going for shock value with the use of blood as the title which grabs the
viewer eyes along with the repeated use of the masked killers who
brandish the now iconic masks of the wolf, sheep and lamb. The use of the
bold red text also gives insight int the movies due to the clear use of the
blood and color red throughout the movie which we connect the thought
of a warning or bad events. By putting the main protagonist and hero
towards the front now battle scarred it also leans into the fact there's
going to action and violence and isnât a typical ghost or paranormal horror
but a slasher which is where the use of the red and blood works so well
along with the characters and set within the poster. The whole aesthetic
clearly pushes for the audience of horror/ slasher fans, but it also leaves it
up to interpretation and makes the viewer more likely to go watch it.
13. Existing Product
The area and colors used in the poster represent the overall tone and
atmosphere for the movie with its dark but also relatively light and
comedic moments along wit the tag ne âevery family has its demonsâ
shows and teases that there is something deeper and more sinister
about the family with âbarnabusâ being in the front standing out
aesthetically wise and physical appearance wise but some of the other
characters who may be more âmysteriousâ being in a bleached white
color and being placed more up front. With the small yet standing out ta
line âstrange is relativeâ also hints towards the family's mysterious and
uneasy nature.
14. Existing Product
The use of both suits in this clearly shows there will be some
form of duality and internal battle within spiderman and
peter himself due to the mirror image of himself but in the
black suit and with the tag line âthe battle withinâ emphasizes
this. The lighting is considerably darker on the black suits side
as it represents the âevilâ within due to the circumstances
that occur in the film and the guilt that builds up within peter
to cause him to become more violent but having the original
red and blue suit more within the forefront and with brighter
lighting shows that he wont allow it to corrupt him and his
responsibilities to do good for people which is going to pull
people in to see how he's going t overcome and battle himself
and the enemies he is going to have to face.
15. Existing Product
With the double page spread it has a clear
view of spiderman and the new suit which is
a large eye-catching feature especially for
spiderman fans as the suit is unique
compared to all the other suits that had
been seen on screens at that time, the
lighting and overall color scheme puts
emphasis on spiderman and the suit as its
the only place on the double page spread
with dynamic lighting of the city as the rest
is just on a black background. It is effective
this way as its largely eye-catching along
with all the information included there is a
small reel of scenes from the movie to keep
the reader more engaged to find out more.
16. Research Summary
⢠What have you learned from your research? â I have learned how to
overlay the layers and isolate them to add an effect to the
background, I also learnt how to make text pop better on my
background with glow and drop shadow to add depth and colour.
⢠What aspects of the research will you include within your on
work? â I will definitely be using the drop shadow and glow
around my text as I have a fairly dark/light colour scheme that will
need the text to stand out on.
19. Style sheet 1 â final
Font 1
I have picked this color palette as I feel it
encapsulates the aesthetics and
gloominess of the movie along with its
brighter and more lighthearted
moments throughout. The more drab
and washed-out colors really give that
sense of the overall environment and its
location of how the town has run into
disrepair and has a miserable aura.
Along with the two fonts as I feel they
tie into the look I used the âAlice in
wonderlandâ one mostly for stuff
directly related to the movie such as the
title tag line and I used the âSilomâ for
advertisement such as on the magazines
title and information.

24. Contingency
What can go wrong? What can you do if it does?
Files may be lost / photos Keep multiple of one just in case of a corruption or
accidental deletion as it could be important and may
seriously hinder me if I cant recover them but if I'm
not able too I can always retake them
Being stuck on how to develop my double page

Go into my planning and refer back to what I have
written and designed and see if it is fit for use and
may help me push my design further
25. Risk Assessment
What could be a risk to you, others or the
equipment?
How can you make sure that doesnât happen? What
will you do if it does?
Dropping equipment Pay attention to what I'm doing and what's around me
so I sure not to trip and drop equipment
Could be injured or hurt whilst taking pictures Just be wary of your surroundings and pay attention
People may not want to be in the picture Delete it and retake
26. Reflection
Double page spread
I feel like my double page spread is basic and
could use some work but has all the
fundamentals, I've added some extras to keep
the reader hooked and attracted visually with
such as the blue moon to visually attract but
also keeps it tied within the aesthetics of
vampires and myths. The layout is very much
more visual than reading based but is still
readable.
27. Reflection
Magazine cover
My magazine cover definitely has more to offer
visually and is a lo more engaging and gripping for the
reader with the small added details of the blood
dripping from the title which also indicates the tone
and will attract a more suitable target audience. The
inclusion of the exclusive interview gives it a more
realistic look and more gripping look for the reader to
engage with. I do feel like the background does have a
slight void feel too it and could of had more but it also
ties into the whole aesthetic and feel of the movie and
that month's issue.
28. Reflection
Poster
Out of the 3 forms of advertising I feel like the poster has the most
unique look as it includes a âreflectionâ or âshadowâ of the
characters self which ties into the title , the meaning of the movie
and the aesthetics as a whole. The tag line âcan you seen trust the
one in the mirrorâ is a metaphor and play on with the thin tat
vampires can not be seen in mirrors as âapollo Collinsâ is unwary
of himself and how the family is also in distrust with him at the
start. I used just a simple overlay technique to achieve this look
and it its effective and ties into the movie meaning wise.

36. Idea generation
⢠My main idea for a game is a pixel art 2d side-scroller action platform game
with some arena type gameplay too. It would have mostly melee combat but
also have some ranged combat such as projectile curses as the playable
character is a vampire. I also thought of possibly adding finisher to enemy to
gain back more health, points, energy etc. depending on the type of enemy
you do the finisher to as I would include ranged enemy's, melee enemy's and
heavy alternates of both and possibly some flying enemies.
⢠My other idea as for a first-person perspective of the same idea but give It a
grittier and more realistic look rather than he cartoonish nature of the 2d
pixel style.
38. Zelda â a link to the past
⢠3d pixel action adventure/ Zelda - a
3d person action adventure usually
has a camera behind the main
character as the main view but also
consists f typically a hero who
traverses through vast levels gaining
gems, exp etc then you must fight.
Boss to get to the next area.
⢠I took most of my inspiration from
Zelda for its HUD and the layout
design as its very clean and concise
with how it is setup. I believe the
minimal and clean design is a better
approach to make it clear to the
player and easier for myself to make.
39. Call of Duty
⢠First-person shooter/ call of duty â a first person shooter is a
genre of Video game that is viewed from the
player/characters perspective , it follows the players âeyesâ
and their actions with titles such as âCall of Dutyâ becoming
widespread to the general public as a series.
⢠I took inspiration from this as I was possibly going to have a
first-person perspective to my game with a more gritty,
realistic tone and colour scheme. I also took some inspiration
form the character designs specifically in black ops 2 as they
have a slightly more futuristic but still militaristic look.
40. Dracula
⢠Side scroller/ Dracula - A side-scrolling video game, is a game in which is viewed
from a side-view camera angle, and the screen follows the player as they move left
or right and up and down depending on the complexity of the levels. Bram strokers
âDraculaâ was released in 1993 for Sega Drive/Genesis, Nintendo Entertainment
System, Super NES, Game Boy, Master System, Sega CD, Game Gear, MS-DOS and
Amiga games consoles. It has a collection of platform, combat and action for the
gameplay but each release on other consoles seemed to have slight differences.
⢠It has also given me lots of inspiration on wat colour scheme I would want with the
drab yet stand out colours and is one of the main inspirations for the gameplay and
look of my game. I also found the character design appealing and has given me ideas
for some of the npcs and enemies.
⢠The MS-DOS version is largely different as I take a first-person shooter perspective
and has a Hud unlike the console versions and it even has an inventory storge at the
bottom of the screen.
41. Castlevania Castlevania â it is a side scroller , gothic horror action-
adventure video game and series about vampire hunters. It
has been released on various platforms old and modern
including mobiles, comics , animated tv series and multiple
spin offs. The later game castlevania II: Simon's quest
introduced rpg elements and exploration then in 2010
castlevania: lords of shadow was released which was a 3d
action-adventure reboot of the series. The hud is a much
clearer design on the later 3d games with a clear hp bar
and mp bar which stands for âmind pointsâ and are for the
use of magic and spells. The hud even has a hear and the
exact amount of health the player has to make it clearer.
44. Game Summary
A quick summary of the game.
You are a vampire who is awakened out of your coffin by a child called demi who soon runs away in your acquittance, you
traverse through a large wooded area and come across a group of people disrespecting a grave yard, which becomes the first
fight arena you face and they are swiftly taken care of and drained of their blood as you haven't drank in three centuryâs, as you
continue forth you meet the family of the boy âdemiâ and soon realise these are distant relations of your family as they live in
your old manor. This where you learn your name as apollo Collins, you o through the town but soon buil a reputation as te
body's are found on the news due to mavis Blair a witch and ex lover and have to fight towns people, military personell, ultiple
bosses then finally mavis as the final boss.
â Some Bullet Points with Unique Features
â Ranged and melee combat.
â Dark, gritty, violent tone to contrast the art style.
â Special powerups such as: bloodlust, increases damage for a short duration, haste: increases move speed, cursed sigils:
increases rate at which you can fire curses and projectiles with unlimited ammo for short duration, Blood drain: drains all
blood of enemy's within a close proximity and goes towards health.
â Must consume blood of enemy's to regain health and must drain spirits of enemy's to regain curse projectiles quicker.
45. Game Overview
Theme / Setting / Genre
Show some example images or similar games / movies / books / TV shows with similar themes.
Core Gameplay Mechanics
Point to other games that this is similar to.
Games such as castlevania and Bram strokers
Dracula as they both have the traditional side
scroller look and mechanics with castlevania being
slightly more complex with it having a wider move
set and mor additions added in further instalments
such as a 3d rpg aspect in some of the much later
games. With my game being set in a gothic, gloomy
but also contrasting version of the 80s with it still
including the bright and colorful nature of that era
in certain levels as I intend on including largely
contrasting areas throughout my game.
46. Story and Gameplay
Story
The hills gathered a shroud of clouds as young demi Collins walks amongst the trees and comes across an old
graveyard with one coffin in an old cobble-built structure and chains accompanying the coffin, with a rock he
hesitantly bashes off the chains and wedges open the coffin before he can react a black mist figure flashes from the
coffin through the roof and sprints back home, but with a glimpse of the figure as it lands. A vampire.
These would be told through short cut scenes, but the in-game dialogue would just be told by text boxes with the head
of who ever is talking next to it.

47. Levels
Details about how many levels.
10 , as the levels will have multiple arenas and platform sections
How levels will vary.
Each level will have its own unique battles and arenas, some enemy models may be reused but will vary from each
arena. Some levels may be more platform orientated and some may be more combat based.
An example of a beginner level.
Would be a small section of platforming at the beginning to get you used to the mechanics then an area of dummy's
to introduce you to the melee combat then the ranged combat, after this there would be a small arena battle with
some basic low level enemies.
An example of a complex level.
The final level foe example would be a boss fight against your main enemy, Mavis Blair who is a witch but would have
multiple forms the first would be her normal human form with normal attacks her second phase would be where she
starts to crack and begins to have an overall faster move and combat set and her last form would be her true final
form where se becomes a cracked doll like being wit higher damage and faster move set wit new deadlier ranged and
melee attacks.
Games usually start easy as the player learns the game, getting a bit more difficult until the player faces off against a
nerve-wracking âboss fightâ or âchallenge gateâ, then down to a bit easier again to let players relax.
48. Assets
â Use this space to show the assets that you have made.
â If they are animated, then embed those animations on to your blog. They wonât work if you embed them here.
â Assets could be character designs and animations, environments, power ups, enemies, game over screens. Make
as much as you can, to get across how your game will look and play.
50. Research
⢠My research helped me narrow down the overall look and feel for my game id say the biggest
strengths and help came from the image and game design rather than the mechanics such as the
designs, architecture and layout of the maps on castlevania and Bram strokers Dracula mostly. I
feel if I spent more time honing in on what I really wanted to do when I was dong research I
wouldnât have used my time researching up fps games as I didnât know what I wanted to make
back then but couldâve given me more knowledge and help towards my final product if I had
focused my research more into my direction.
51. Planning
⢠It let me envision what I wanted to do fairly clearly with the whole horror, mystical, atmospheric
feel to the game and the feel of the characters but it could have also been more fleshed out and
fuller as I felt it did lack same details and did slightly hinder my animations as to not having a
completely clear picture of what I wanted at the start.
52. Time Management
⢠I think I did fairly well with my time but definitely couldâve done better if I had more time as it
took me a while to truly understand what I wanted to go for and achieve, with more time I
wouldâve liked to do a running animation of my character through one of my levels and possibly
so platforming and even some simple melee and ranged combat if I had extra time. I couldâve
managed my time a lot better from the start but with the work I got done in that time I feel like I
did and managed ok.
53. Technical Qualities
My animation is simple technically as it is only a flame flickering and a light pulsating on my map and for my
character I had them grin with their fangs coming out and blood appearing around their mouth and face as
they blink but even with this, I feel It is effective on setting the tone and mood of the game as a whole, the
surroundings and maps and the character itself giving them an eerie and sinister edge to them even before
knowing their motives. And all my audio was made on beep box which was better than a foley as it captured
that retro feel better than any foley could.
54. Aesthetic Qualities
I feel like m art style and aesthetics of my game are pleasing for the audience
intended with the overall dark, mystical, horror and ambient themes. The color
palette also ties well into the overall aesthetics and feels of the maps and arenas,
with the standout features being obvious as they are usually highly contrasting the
mostly gloomy and dull background making it more eye catching even though it
carry's the same principals throughout it still manages to keep it unique and fresh.
the things closest to my game I feel are castlevania and Bram strokers Dracula,
even though the styles are different aesthetically they have their similarities with
the platforming aspects, some of the architecture and scenery and combat by
using spells and melee combat. I feel the main difference is mostly t castlevania
with the color palette and overall scheme as you are a vampire, but you donât
hunt people or other vampires but just fight to survive and is also me gory and
brutal than castlevania and Dracula.
55. Aural Qualities
I made my sounds and music appeal towards the settings and aesthetics of my game, and I believe it
captures the eerie, haunting but also same what upbeat feeling of old 8-bit retro arena games and horror
games. I would improve it b maybe adding more sound effects such as t fire crackling on just ambient
sounds to in the background to add to that horror, eerie feel that I was going for. I also wouldâve liked to
have had multiple variations of the same song too add different melodies and differences throughout the
trck so it isnât just all the same throughout.
56. Audience Appeal
Largely the horror aspects of my project appeal to my target audience but also the use of mythical creatures
and monsters such as the vampires, witches, spells and hexes. The layout and settings of the levels have
also been catered towards that gothic mythical horror background with places like graveyards, castles,
churches etc. with unnatural structures and aesthetics. It also has a large appeal to retro gamers due to the
gameplay mechanics, arenas, combat mechanics and overall aesthetics.
57. Overall strengths and weaknesses of the final
package.
I feel it achieves what its going for with the whole retro, horror, atmospheric and mythical feel and gives a clear
vision a show of how the game would be if it was fully fleshed out and finished with fully designed characters and
maps but I also feel if I had more time I couldâve added a lot more detail with the characters and maps and just
make more overall to fully flesh out the concept of what I wanted with maybe some enemy designs an more
designs of the main character and multiple maps.
