2. Initial Responses and Idea Generation
Log your initial thoughts regarding the set brief in this document
What stories could you use? How do you feel about the different potential
formats? What are the positives about this project? What could be some difficult
aspects? Etc
Use the format on this document to guide this response – some are set as a
question on one slide, but you should look to add further slides as necessary
3. Which stories have you researched and looked
as potential starting points?
• Taken lots of inspiration from urban legends from the internet and creepypastas
such as : scp foundation , eyeless jack , the rake and even video games such as
silent hill 2 and even the ost from it , resident evil 4 along with its ost also. These
all tie into the eerie slightly more than human feel to the entities that exist within
them and build tension and character within its own ambience. Even some analog
horror and args on the internet have become starting points on ideas.
4. Which research into existing products has been the
most useful? Includes examples and explanations
• Most likely the creepypastas and online horror stories such as analog horror that is
on YouTube as these have been around for years and have moulded my perspective
and tastes to what I like in the turn giving me plenty of examples to use and only
needing some research for extra details. Examples are as such ; the Mandela
catalogue, the walten files , petscop, eyeless jack , the rake etc.
5. Which production format [drama, narration,
etc] do you feel fits your idea best and why?
• A narration approach would fit for my ideas as a drama wouldn’t be able to capture
the uneasiness and discomfort as a narration would also a lot of my subject material
is far from reality and is based of things that aren’t real or humanely possible a lot of
the time which gives it more fear as it has a room for the fear of the unknown and
unexplainable.
6. Which story have you settled on and why?
• My story is going to consist of old news broadcasts, home footage, old instructional
tapes and will most likely be a form of analog horror about creatures which manifest
in your dreams into reality. It gives me a wide range of options with narration sfx
and just general sfx with it allowing me to explore any sounds that have a eerie ,
atmospheric and possibly gore aura to them to encapsulate the horror and overall
feel of the tapes. I may section them up into different “tapes” of phone calls,
peoples experiences and instructional tapes.
7. If you had to sell your story quickly, what is the
title and the logline?
• The broadcasts wont stop, they keep playing warning tapes for an
anomalous threat, it keeps repeating “there will be a knock at the door, do
not open it”. I cant sleep, it wont stop knocking.
8. What ideas have you had for sound effects,
narration and storytelling?
• I want to give a feeling of old late 80s - early 90s media mostly things like
the news and vhs and a mix of human narration and auto generated vocals
and narration will be used to add to the eerie and unsettling atmosphere. If
this is not possible id want to keep an overall same feel but maybe for a
slasher horror story.
9. Initial feelings…how do you feel about the
project currently?
• I feel excited to try a format where I can express my creativity for the things
I enjoy and to explore a new route of showing it. Im mostly worried for the
difficulty depending on what I do as it could be a challenge to do the more
analog horror approach.
10. What other research do you think you need to
do?
• Definitely more on my cast and who I will be using to help me even though
I believe I know who will be and more research into analog horror as a
whole to really understand it.
Editor's Notes
Think about creative and technical elements, it could be you like the idea of evoking a sense of place or you have the perfect person in mind as a narrator? Or are you keen to start writing a story and take it from there? Ideas and development are personal, try and get across where your idea is and what has got you to that point.
Add as many slides as needed from the work you did on Urban Legends, York Ghost stories and other inspirations you have considered. Which story have you gravitated toward and why?
Think about why this idea rather than any other…is it because it has the best scope for sfx, narration, etc. Reasons can be personal, but you need explain them.
A logline is a one sentence description or summary of the audio story. Loglines distill the important elements of your script/story—main character, setup, central conflict, antagonist—into a clear, concise teaser. The goal is to write a logline so enticing that it hooks the listener into your idea

Consider pros and cons here, what are you excited about, what is a worry…
This could be audio recording, post-production, getting cast/narrator, etc…it might be just organising your idea into a workable project…
