Blue Bustamante
The first scene that I chose is when George got fired in his job in japan and he’s is in need of job.
His friend, Roger, also got fired but got a new job immediately in a TV station as a Production
Assistant. He persuades George to take the double position of Blue Force because he has a
masculine type of body. George doesn’t want to take the job but because he was being wooed
and he has no job, he took the role. I can say that this scene is Reinforcement Theory because
George doesn’t like the idea because he doesn’t have acting skills but through Roger’s
persuasion and reinforcement that it is better than being jobless, his mindset was changed and he
accepted the role. The second scene is when Jun said that Blue will be replaced by Purple Force.
George asked why they are going to pull out Blue because he started liking the role when he
learned that his son liked that character. I can say that this scene is Attribution Theory because
George never stopped asking reasons why are they going to pull out the character of Blue. He
seeks explanation to that certain phenomenon to satisfy his curiosity about the sudden decision to
pull out Blue Force’s character. The third is when they are shooting for the last scene, wherein
Blue will die. But because he really wants to outlive the character of Blue, he didn’t follow the
script; instead, he fought for the life of Blue because he doesn’t want his son to be sad. But then,
the producer got mad at him because it took several takes to kill Blue. He got fired but his
director commended him for the stunts so he recommended him to be in another show. This
scene is Elaboration theory because George used his peripheral route in making decision. He
didn’t think of what is going to happen but he still did it for the happiness of his son.
Kabisera
The first scene is during dinner time, when the whole family, including Ana’s fiancé talks about
the wedding of Ana. Andres doesn’t like his daughter Ana to get married because he is the head
of the family and he should be obeyed because of that. This scene is Elaboration Likelihood
because Andres used his peripheral route in this decision. The cue that lead him use this route is
authority (Because I said so). The second scene is when Andres and his wife were talking about
the drugs that he got from the ocean. His wife was in doubt because they might get caught
because that’s illegal. Andres insisted that it will make their dreams come true; selling the drugs
will help them to be rich. Because of that, his wife agreed with his decision. This is
Reinforcement Theory because Andres gave a new idea to his wife through persuasion that
selling the drugs will make their lives better. The third scene is when Andres, his best friend
were having their drinking session. They were talking about their past experiences and how did
they became best friends. They started reminiscing many memories that confirmed their
friendship to be strong. The theory for this scene is Social Penetration Theory because as time
2. goes by, they knew each other very well and they surpassed many trials in life. Through this
trials and after a long time together, it strengthen their relationship.
Shift
The first scene that I chose is when Estela and Trevor were waiting for a cab and she said her
real personality to Trevor. They were getting to know each other at that stage because their Team
Leader asked Trevor to befriend her for hopes that she will be better in work. This scene is
Uncertainty Reduction Theory, as they share bits of information about themselves, they become
more comfortable with each other and they became close eventually. The second scene is when
one of their officemates said that Trevor was blooming and that maybe he’s in love. Estela then
asked him if there was something that he wasn’t saying to her and then he said that he met the
man of his dreams. Estela got shocked because she was already falling for him but said that she
was mad because he didn’t tell that her that he met someone. This scene is Interpersonal
Deception Theory because even though the two of them were really close, there are still things
that you can’t tell to anyone, even to your best friends. The last scene is when Kevin confessed
that he liked Estela but she refused, saying that she loves someone but doesn’t love her back. She
also pointed that if he courted her before, then maybe they could be together nut Kevin has a
girlfriend back then. She friendzoned him, saying that she liked him, but as a friend only. This
scene is Reinforcement Theory, because Estela said things that will change Kevin’s idea of
loving her. Through those words, she reinforced the fact that they were just friends and that
loving her will just ruin the friendship.
2. Ganito Kami Noon, Paano Kayo Ngayon?
The message of this movie is about who is the real Filipino. I think that is the main topic of the
movie, which is about who is the true Filipinos. As the story progress, it shows how the
Spaniards and Americans change the perspectives of the Filipinos about who are the real
Filipinos. As I have observed in the movie, according to the Filipinos, you are not considered as
one of them if you weren’t born and raised in the country. According to the Spaniards, they are
the real Filipinos. But at the end of the movie, Kulas implied that the real Filipinos are the ones
who love the country more than anyone else. It doesn’t matter who you are but if you love the
country, you are considered as a Filipino. The movie also shows how your social status can
affect the way other people are treating you. If you are poor, you are not a Filipino and
considered as an Indio; If you are rich and you confide with the Spaniards, you are respectable
and a true Filipino. The movie represents the Filipinos are foreigner to their own country. During
that time, Filipinos were always regarded as Indios especially if you are only poor. You cannot
be considered as a true Filipino unless you became rich and you confide with the colonizers. In
the story, Kulas wasn’t considered as a Filipino until Padre Gil Corcuera gave him a big amount
of money, a dividend of his tobacco shares and a big house in exchange for bringing his son back
to him. People always look down at him because he is not educated and he came from the
mountains. The theory that I think is very evident in the film is the Reinforcement Theory.
During the course of the movie, it shows how Filipinos can be easily wooed by the foreigners.
Because of the promises of the colonizers, Filipinos easily changed their minds and believes to
whatever the colonizers will say to them. Because of the colonizers, Filipinos since then were
brain washed about many things and up until now, we are still being reinforced to change our
perspectives and culture by many foreign countries.
