How did you use media technology in construction, research and planning and evaluation?

 The use of media technology was vital throughout the entire process of planning, constructing
and evaluating our media product due to the fact that the various different technologies gave us
access to certain features that we thought were necessary in order to make the product a
success. From the beginning we used technology such as programmes including YouTube and
other video sharing platforms in order to gain a wider knowledge of what was expected of us
due to the fact that we needed to gain as much knowledge as possible before beginning the
planning process. For example, during the research and planning stages of the process we used
previously made music videos as guidelines to assist us in planning the narrative and the various
shots we were going to use within the product.

 Through the advantage of knowing what was available to us from the start meant that we were
able to plan a narrative which took into account the post editing touches which resulted in us
being able to film the shots smoothly and also with a degree of confidence. We undertook a
practice filming shoot during the construction of the music video to identify of there were any
gaps that needed filling in within the construction and if the shots that we had planned to film
during the filming would render themselves as successful shots in terms of there ability to link the
narrative together or oppose it by making the narrative seem unclear leading the audience to
receive the negotiated response. The limitations of the first practice shoot were identified when
reviewing the footage, it was clear to us that the footage was filmed in the wrong angle which
meant that it would need re-filming in order to successfully flow together.

 During the construction sequence of the music video we primarily used the use of physical media
technology such through using methods as using a tri-pod in order to catch all of the sequences
in a balanced frame, and an iPhone 6S which obtained the best camera available to us at the
time. The tri-pods steady angle meant that we were able to film the tracking and reverse tracking
shots with relative ease which meant that the rest of the construction could be sped up increasing
our time efficiency. The low-key lighting within the construction was achieved through
experimentation as we adjusted the different settings of light as they were all connected through
one panel which meant that we had to flip a switch every couple of minutes in order to achieve
the same consistency throughout the footage.

 One of the biggest advantages to us was the use of Final Cut Pro X which gave us the ability to
utilize an array of effects such as slow motion and the ken burns effect along with a number of
transitions including fade to colour which meant that we could increase the level of
professionalism and give a greater sense of realism throughout. As we uploaded the footage
onto the software we noticed that in order to fit the footage in time with the track we had to
drastically reduce the duration of one of the shots which meant that some of the shots needed to
be removed in order to allow for this. We identified the shots that caused the narrative to be
unclear and resulted back to filming additional shorter clips where we could fit into the software’s
timeline without interrupting any of the sequences. We realised that when we filmed the tracking
shots that we would need to slot them into the exact position so that the lip sync would align
perfectly with the lyric being sung.
