How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages

  1. 1. How  did  you  use  new  media   technologies  in  the  construc4on  and   research,  planning  and  evalua4on   stages?   Meaghan  Barron-‐Cutts
  2. 2. Camera   In  the  produc4on  of  ‘Radioac4ve’  we  used  two  Panasonic  HD  cameras  to  film  the  video  itself  and  to   capture  the  interviews  with  our  target  audience.  The  fact  that  we  had  two  cameras  served  as  a   great  purpose,  especially  during  the  crea4on  of  the  music  video.  This  is  because  we  were  able  to   save  4me  by  not  reshoo4ng  any  shots,  we  got  the  same  shot  but  from  two  different  angles.  In  the   close  up  shot  of  Sophie  and  I  directly  facing  the  camera,  with  the  mirror  ball  effect,  we  originally   shot  it  from  the  leG  as  well,  however,  that  shot  didn’t  look  as  effect  as  we  hoped,  and  so  we  had  a   back  up  shot  that  we  were  able  to  use.  Despite  the  shot  not  looking  as  good  as  we  thought,  we   were  s4ll  able  to  use  our  edi4ng  skills  to  not  waste  the  shot,  and  used  it  to  fill  any  gaps  within  the   video.  This  shot,  when  the  dust  falls,  didn’t  look  as  effec4ve  as  we  thought  it  would,  as  the  amount   of  dust  coming  down  didn’t  look  sufficient  enough.  To  solve  this  problem  we  added  the  effect  of   ‘mirror  balling’.     We  also  gained  knowledge  on  how  to  use  the  zoom  and  focus  tool  on  the  camera,  for  example,  on  the   shot  of  my  eye,  we  were  able  to  focus  well  on  my  face  to  get  the  full  effect  of  my  pupils  dila4ng  and   in  result,  making  the  visuals  of  the  video  more  effec4ve.   We  took  photos  for  our  blogs  on  our  Iphone’s,  it  was  quick  and  easy.  All  we  had  to  do  was  send  an  email   to  ourselves  so  that  we  could  then  save  the  aOachment  onto  our  devices,  ready  to  be  uploaded   onto  our  blogs.
  3. 3. Edi4ng   We  edited  our  video  on  Final  Cut  Pro.  It  was  easy  to  use  as  we  could   access  it  whenever  we  wanted  as  it  was  on  our  Macs,  allowing  us  to   edit  in  our  own  4me,  outside  of  lessons.  By  doing  so  we  gave   ourselves  more  4me  to  create  the  digipak  and  magazine  advert.  On   Final  Cut  Pro  we  had  more  freedom  to  add  effects,  unlike  Sony   Vegas  9.0,  which  we  were  previously  going  to  use.  We  could   effec4vely  crop  shots,  such  as  the  flag  shot,  and  s4ll  make  the  shot   look  fairly  HD.  During  the  edi4ng  process  we  also  added  a   satura4on  effect  onto  every  single  shot  to  bring  out  the  colours   within  the  paint  and  dust  even  more,  adding  to  the  aeste4cally   pleasing  look  and  capturing  the  audiences  aOen4on  even  more.   We  even  used  Final  Cut  Pro  to  cut  and  crop  clips  from  our  audience   research,  allowing  us  to  rid  of  any  inappropriate  comments  or  ones   that  served  no  purpose.
  4. 4. Photoshop   We  used  Photoshop  to  create  an  effec4ve  digipak  and   magazine  advert.  It  allowed  us  to  play  around  with   certain  effects,  such  as  the  pixelate,  mosaic,  blur,  drop   shadow,  and  the  sharpen  tool.  Each  tool  served  as  an   important  purpose,  for  example,  the  drop  shadow   emphasised  the  text  and  helped  it  stand  out  next  to   the  bold  image  on  the  digipak  and  advert.  Photoshop   was  extremely  useful  as  we  were  able  to  create   mul4ple  layers,  one  for  text  and  one  for  images.  The   layers  helped  us  organise  what  we  were  doing  and   made  the  process  ten  4mes  easier.
  5. 5. Social  networking   We  used  sites  such  as  Facebook,  TwiOer,  Instagram,  and  Gmail   to  keep  in  contact  and  share  our  work  with  our  friends  and   other  people  on  the  internet.  We  used  Facebook  to  contact   all  our  friends  that  got  involved  in  starring  in  our  video.  We   were  able  to  easily  communicate  and  plan  where  and  when   it  was  and  what  they  needed  to  bring.  We  used  these  sites   to  gain  interest  in  the  video,  for  example  we  put  some   bloopers  onto  Instagram.  We  could  also  share  the  links  to   survey’s  we’d  made  on  Survey  Monkey  and  presenta4ons   on  Prezi.  We  used  these  sites  before  and  aGer  the  making   of  the  music  video,  we  asked  people  for  feedback  on  our   ideas,  the  final  video,  and  the  ad  and  digipak.
  6. 6. Survey  Monkey   Survey  Monkey  was  used  to  construct   professional  looking  surveys  that  were  easily   accessible  to  our  target  audience.  Our  surveys   could  be  shared  on  things  like  Facebook  and   TwiOer,  allowing  us  to  provide  our  audience   with  an  easy  and  quick  way  to  help  us  with   research.
  7. 7. Prezi   Prezi  allowed  me  to  create  professional  looking   presenta4ons  easily  and  efficiently.  It  was   used  for  audience  feedback  as  it  is  a  piece  of   technology  that  is  interac4ve,  for  example,   gathering  all  the  informa4on  together,  and   doing  my  evalua4on  ques4ons.  I  also  used  it   to  evaluate  music  videos,  videos  that  gave  me   inspira4on  and  ideas  for  our  final  video  and   easily  placed  it  onto  my  blog  using  the   ‘embed’  code.
  8. 8. Slideshare   Slideshare  was  extremely  useful  when  analysing   music  videos  and  answering  my  evalua4on   ques4ons.  Like  Prezi,  it  gives  your  work  a   professional  look  and  allows  you  to  easily  put   it  onto  Blogger  due  to  the  ‘embed’  code.
  9. 9. YouTube   YouTube  allowed  us  to  share  our  work  with  the   internet  and  do  so  easily.  Again,  the  ‘embed’   op4on  made  it  easy  to  put  videos  onto  our   blogs,  including  the  professional  ones  being   analysed,  as  well  as  our  own.  YouTube  also   allows  you  to  share  videos  onto  Facebook,   TwiOer,  and  via  email  by  the  click  of  a  buOon,   helping  us  communicate  with  each  other  and   our  audience.
  10. 10. Blogger   Finally,  Blogger  has  helped  immensely  as  it   allows  you  to  embed  videos,  Prezi’s,   SlideShare’s,  images,  and  all  sorts  and  organise   it  in  a  professional,  appealing  way.  I  have  used   it  throughout  the  whole  course  and  have   enjoyed  crea4ng  my  blog.  Blogger  allows  me   to  create  a  folder  or  file  of  all  my  A2  work,   making  it  easier  for  me  and  our  audience  to   view  and  interact  with.
