Colonialism In India
Global distribution of material wealth is a significant ongoing debate in today's society.
Globalization along with social inequality was seen as a direct result of post–colonialism. While
some had benefitted from colonialism, others did not. Between two articles, it was proven that cities
who failed to benefit from colonialism can thrive due to citizens from beneficial countries. Migrants
along with the community were able to benefit financially and economically. Both articles used an
observation process for recording data. Finally, migrants in Panama engaged with locals, however,
westerners did not socialize with the citizens of India. In the first article presented A Postcolonial
Imagination? Westerners searching for Authenticity in India written by Mari Korpela it was
portrayed that Westerners who went to India were able to benefit financially, as well as the
communities in India itself. Similarly, like other countries, India was colonized by Britain. In
previous times during colonization, it was seen as the "white man's burden'' (Korpela 2010).
Colonialists lived separately from the people in Varanasi, India and did not want to be in the country
(Korpela 2010). However, the westerners who were staying in Varanasi simply stayed by choice.
Most westerners come from places such as the United States, Canada, and other European countries
( Korpela 2010). These countries were economically developed and were examples of countries who
benefited from colonialism and

In a Diesel–Electric train, the diesel motor drives an electrical DC generator with an electrical AC
alternator rectifier circuit whose yield gives force to the footing engines. There is no immediate
mechanical association between the motor and the wheels.
The essential parts of a diesel–electric train are diesel motor (prime mover), the fundamental

A Case Discussion On Eczema
A CASE DISCUSSION ON ECZEMAAbstract
Eczema is a form of dermatitis where inflammation of epidermis occurs. The exact cause of eczema
is not known. Although it is activated by the immune system and is related to allergic reactions, it is
not the same as other allergic reactions. Controlling eczema more effectively can make a radical
improvement to the patient 's quality of life. A case report of an 11–year–old male who has a severe
eczema presented with complaints of rashes, intense itchy and may scale and blisters has been
presented here.
Keyword: Eczema. Introduction
The word eczema comes from the Greek word ekzein meaning "to boil out"; word ek means "out",
while zema means boiling (Varanasi, 2000 in Hedge et.al, 2010). The exact cause of eczema is not
known. People with eczema do have the IgE antibodies (immunoglobulin E) produced by the
immune system as part of allergic reactions. Eczema can be a difficult and frustrating condition. The
psychological challenge faced by the patients of eczema is insurmountable. The natural human
desire to scratch an itchy rash just makes the condition worse.
In 2009 a study carried out by scientists at the University of Edinburgh concluded that the defects in
a particular gene known as the filaggrin gene are linked to a considerably amplified risk of
developing allergic disorders such as eczema, rhinitis, and asthma (Varanasi, 2000 in Hedge et.al,
2010). The typical locations of eczema include the face (scalp and around the eyes), the

Ganga River Essay
The Ganges River, which is popularly known by its own Hindu name–Ganga, is the symbol of
India's ancient culture and civilization. This river is the most sacred river in Hinduism. People
believe that taking a dip into the water of the Ganges will purify their souls from all committed sins
in the past, so they can go to heaven. The Ganges River flows from the top of the southern side of
the Himalayas in the state of Uttarakhand. In the article, "Ganges River," the author Jay Yett says,
"The Ganges River flows about 2,500 kilometers across the Gangetic Plain and through a coastal
delta in Bangladesh to empty into the Bay of Bengal." Not only does it provide water to India, but
also to Bangladesh. The major cities that rely on the water of the Ganges are Varanasi, Kolkata,
Haridwar, Allahabad, Patna, Kanpur, and Ghazipur. Today, this river is one of the most polluted
rivers in the world. According to the article, "Metal and Pesticide Pollution Scenario in Ganga River
System," Srikanta Samanta reports that there has been a huge increase in pollution compared to the
9,000 tons in 2009. Since then, she reveals that approximately 22,000 tons of pesticides have been
pumped into the river basin (Samanta 355). Each year, thousands of bodies are cremated on the
banks of the river, with many being disposed of directly into the river. Furthermore, unwanted
babies (i.e, unwanted girl children), cattle, and other animal bodies are also dumped into the river.
Observers can say that the

The Road To Awareness, By David Foster Wallace
The Road to Awareness The author David Foster Wallace gave the commencement speech at a
liberal arts college some years ago, which began with the parable of fish not knowing of the
existence of water. That speech delineates the value of a liberal arts education. In a word, that value
is awareness. Awareness means the freedom or ability to choose what to value, what to think about,
when our lives are really little more than routine. By breaking our routine, the road teaches
awareness in two important ways. The first way the road makes you aware is by forcing you to ask
questions. When you experience situations for the first time, questions arise. For example, when you
attend a full moon party on the bank of the Ganges river in Varanasi, you

Review of Hotel Surya of Varanasi
A serene haven located in the majestic and holy land of Varanasi, Hotel Surya is a three star
accommodation, famous for its top notch amenities and facilities. Located in the heart of the city, on
the Mall Road at S20/51 A 5, Varuna Bridge, the hotel is easily accessible from the Lal Bahadur
Shastri International Airport, being favorably located at a distance of around 20km. Further, the
hotel lies in the immediate vicinity of the Varanasi Junction Railway station, being situated at a
distance of around 5km.
The extremely convenient and justified pricing slabs of its deluxe and premium rooms make it all
the more attractive. The deluxe rooms are available for Rs.1800 per night while the tariff of
premium rooms is Rs.3, 000 per night. All the rooms have a scintillating view of the surrounding
gardens and Kaiser Palace.
The ideal time to visit the city would be with the onset of winters, that is, from October to March.
Although the temperature dips drastically, the cool winds are more pleasant than the hot bearing Sun
of the summers. It has its own comfortable indoor Canton Royale restaurant whose lip smacking
offerings span from Indian and Chinese specialties to Mexican and Italian cuisines. It also has an
outdoor MangiFerra Café, whose offerings include juice, smoothies and snacks. Its funky Sol Bar
acts as an added advantage which offers appetizers and drinks, giving the perfect ambience. In
addition, the hotel provides local shopping opportunities through its cute boutique

Comparing The Catholic Pilgrimage To St Peter's Basilica
Introduction:
Good morning everyone.
Today I want to talk to you about pilgrimage. I want to focus on two pilgrimages in particular; the
Hindu pilgrimage to the Indian city of Varanasi, and the Catholic pilgrimage to St Peter's Basilica in
Rome.
To quote Steve Branmn and Jim Rawls, "A pilgrimage is a journey inward as well as outward.
Pilgrims seek to strengthen and renew their faith through travel."
Therefore today I want to try and prove that the religious significance of a pilgrimage to St Peter's
Basilica and Varanasi are similar, as both serve the purpose of renewing faith through travel, and
also educating pilgrims on the history of their religion.
Body 1:
Both the Hindu pilgrimage to Varanasi, and the Catholic pilgrimage to ... Show more content on

The Basilica features many instances of an upside down cross. This represents St Peter's crucifixion
upside down, – he was crucified like this because he did not want to defame Jesus by dying in the
same way he did.
Another more prominent feature of the Basilica; the alter and the dome that sits above it represent
the holy trinity. The holy spirit being the dove that sits on the alter, the son being the cross that sits
on top of the alter, and the father being the top–most part of the dome.
Symbolism is also prominent in the Hindu pilgrimage to Varanasi. Temples located in the city are
each devoted to a god, or an aspect of Hinduism.
As I mentioned earlier, the The Kasha Vishwanath temple dedicated to Shiva. The Bharat Mata
temple is dedicated to 'mother India.'
The Durga Mata Temple was built in the 18th century for the Hindu Goddess Durga.
The two pilgrimages can be linked through their symbolism. Each pilgrimage includes symbolic
monuments that represent various aspects of their religion.
These symbols serve to provide pilgrims with knowledge of the tradition and some aspects of the
history regarding their

from the Navajo tribe. At the beginning of the novel she is conflicted by coming from a biracial
family where her mother is white and her father is Navajo. This conflict follows her all of the way to
college in choosing an Ivy League school. She later decides on a school known as Dartmouth
because of the fact that they had substantial amount of Native Americans than any other Ivy League
school. Alvord graduated from Dartmouth with a psychology and sociology degree but still had
aspirations to become a doctor. She returns to school at Stanford to study medicine, after fulfilling
her degree she made her way back to New Mexico near Gallup.
Alvord Practiced at Gallup Indian Medical Center where she stood out from her peers. She realized
that all of her peers are Anglos and she was the only Native American. Although she is Native
American she is not seen as such from her Native American Patients because of her modern medical
practices. Alvord felt conflicted for her Native American background by practicing western
medicine. She realizes that trust is the most difficult aspect when having Native American patients.
Since the doctors are mostly Anglos it is difficult to communicate to the Navajo patients. Alvord
realized this conflict and bridged the patient–physician gap by speaking Navajo and touching the
patients. Since Navajo's believe in touching, singing and feeling as a major

Living World Religion 1107
September 27th 20117 Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta: Setting in Motion the Wheel of Truth
Where does the scripture originate?
The religion that considers this text sacred is Buddhism.
Summary– Five monks were addressed at the deer park at isipatana near Varanasi while the blessed
one was staying there. He stated two extremes that don't need to be practiced; the addiction to
indulgence of sense pleasures, and the addiction to self–mortification finding them both unworthy
and unprofitable. Tathagata realized the middle path gives vision, knowledge, leads to calm, insight,
to enlightenment, and to Nibbana. To put simply there are Four Noble Truths are dukkha (suffering),

The Noble Truths can be explained as a lifecycle on the path to "nirvana." We hang on to
unsatisfying painful things (dukkha), Desire keeps us in samsara, the cycle of rebirth and dying
continuously, while still dealing with durkkha. The cycle can only be ended by attaining nirvana
(after rebirth dukkha won't be a temptation). This can be accomplished by following the eightfold
path, restraining oneself, demonstrating discipline, and practicing meditation. The twelve ways
(modes) are obtained by applying these three aspects to each of the Truths; The knowledge that it is
the Truth. The knowledge that a certain function regarding this Truth should be performed. The
knowledge that the function regarding this Truth has been performed. The blessed one also went on
to say if his knowledge of seeing things the way they really are weren't clear in the three aspects and
the twelve ways concerning the truths, he didn't claim to have achieved supreme enlightenment,
However, when his knowledge of seeing things the way they were was clear he achieved supreme
enlightenment. "And a

Coca Cola
Historically, many companies and corporations have received recognition for their growth and
success over time. However, although praised, discoveries of controversial issues lead consumers to
question various companies' ethics and operations. Coca–Cola, or simple coke, has existed for over
a century, originating in Atlanta, Georgia in 1892, and eventually expanding and providing drinks
internationally. Today, the company produces concentrate, which then sells to Coke licensed bottlers
internationally; and ultimately ending up sold to retail stores and vending machines for consumers to
purchase. Along with the regular "coke", the company has also been able to produce other cola

Aside from the government, the company's opportunities can also be controlled by private politics
such as protests, public criticism, interest groups as well as public sentiment towards the company.
(Baron p.31). The other factor that can affect opportunities is moral concerns, which Coke seems to
be going through this issue right now. Coke should formulate a policy that oversees the use of water
in India, which is the major concern of groups in private politics.
Interest groups that are in play from the surrounding villages in India include: anti–coke
nongovernmental activist groups, Varanasi–based activist, environmentalist, politicians, farmers and
the villagers that have created lives in surrounding areas. Leading from within these interest groups
is The Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board; a statutory organization entrusted to implement
Environmental Laws and rules within the jurisdiction of the state of Uttar Pradesh, India (UPPCB).
The Control Board had found that Coke violated a number of conditions of its license that had to do
with the use of water. The company had not yet obtained clearance for the extraction of groundwater
from the Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA), a government agency that monitors and
regulates the process in water–stressed areas (The economic Times). But Coke had some objections
to these accusations.
According to Coke, a Central

Essay On Aurangzeb
Aurangzeb's religious policy is based on the Islamic theory of kinship. Aurangzeb was felt that he
had not only become greater than administer the empire in a better way, but also to protect and
strengthen particularly its Sunni Islam faith. He was a strict follower of the Sunni sect, to the extent
that he persecuted the members of the Shiite sect. In order to achieve its objective of strengthening
Islam, his father was imprisoned, he killed his brothers, he forced his son Akbar to revolt and have a
miserable life. He also forced the Rajputs, the Jat Sikhs and Marathas to revolt, destroyed the states
of Bijapur and Golconda and imposed political, economic and social disabilities of their Muslim

Comparing Judaism And Hinduism : Judaism Vs. Hinduism
Judaism and Hinduism
Michelle Zhang
Georgia Military College Judaism and Hinduism Judaism and Hinduism are two widely known and
oldest religions in the world. Both of these religions have sacred texts and laws that are still used
and followed today. Judaism and Hinduism both have social class systems that separate the higher
religious followers from the average person (Hutchinson, 2017a) (Levinson, 2017). Judaism is a
religion that is monotheistic, belief in one god (Hutchinson, 2017a). Those who practice the religion
of Hinduism can be considered a "monotheist, polytheist, or atheist" (Levinson, 2017). Judaism and
Hinduism share similar traits including celebrations and their followers being persecuted but have
different sacred locations that their followers visit, texts, and founders. Judaism was founded by a
wealthy leader named Abraham (Hutchinson, 2017b). Yahweh (God) appeared to Abraham and told
him that he would bless his people if they "obeyed and worshipped Him" (Hutchinson, 2017b). At
this time, the Hebrew people were polytheistic, meaning they believed in many different gods. Over
time, the Hebrews began to realize God would make a way for them every time they faced
hardships. This made them monotheistic, and they began to follow only the supreme God
(Hutchinson, 2017a). Hinduism was not founded by one specific person or people. Hindus have the
option to worship one god, many gods, or even none at all (Levinson, 2017). To Hindus, it is more
important to perform rituals and stay true to the old traditions that have been passed down from their
ancestors (Levinson, 2017). There are gods that Hindus worship, but only worshipping and not
keeping alive the old traditions means nothing.
Judaism and Hinduism have sacred texts and places for their religion. Judaism has the Torah, which
were teachings given to Moses who was a messenger of God (Hutchinson, 2017a). The Torah
includes the history of how the religion came to be and laws that the Jews should obey. The Jews'
sacred place is Jerusalem. After the Holocaust in World War II, "the United Nations created a
country just for Jews" ("Judaism," 2012). They felt this was needed after the mistreatment of the
Jews. Hinduism has sacred texts in two

The Ganges River Of India
The Ganges River in India is an important river system that provides water for personal use,
industry, and agriculture for well over half a million people. This river also serves a major role in the
region's cultural and religious practices. It is widely believed that this body of water is the Earthly
manifestation of the Hindu goddess Ganga. For thousands of years, people have believed that Ganga
can wash away a lifetime of sins and, therefore, no amount of pollution can harm her (Conway). As
a result of this belief, industrial, agricultural, and human waste are dumped into the river on a daily
basis.
Hindus also believe that bathing themselves in the water of the river will wash away all of their sins
and grant spiritual rewards such as "deliverance from sin and attainment of nirvana (Das)." Hindus
believe that to die on the banks of the Ganges is an "assurance of heavenly bliss and will grant
emancipation from the eternal cycle of birth and death (Das)." Due to this belief, millions of people
use the banks of the river for cremation and burial (BBC). Aside from religious ceremonies, poor
people who cannot afford to be cremated are wrapped in white muslin and placed in the river
(BBC). Following ceremonies, the ashes and dead bodies are dumped into the river. These religious
practices are believed to be a primary cause of the degraded water quality of the Ganges River near
Varanasi. If the quality of water continues to become even more degraded, a crucial part of the

The Importance Of The Urban Environment
The study through civilizations makes us realize the development of any profession. From ages,
urban policies are taught and practiced. Over the centuries, from an urge to find shelter... the growth
has been exploding metropolis of mankind. Urban policies and leadership is a manifestation of
many stages of evolution.
If we look at our recent past, cities of the 20th century were built on the basis of function,
rationality, technical innovation and changes in social structure; which have laid a foundation for
concentrated human population and habitats in the urban area. We thought we were making a great
progress in creating a better environment around us, but due to our neglecting urban policies and
lack of leadership, we are seeing crisis every day which is facing the global environment leading to
the loss of our culture.
While entering the 21st century we are realizing the after effects of the bad urban policies which are
resulting in abnormal weather, pollution of air, water and ground. Now in the present scenario, the
concept of economic development is looked upon as a policy which brings only momentary
prosperity and lacks the welfare of the public. I believe this is the time to change our consciousness
and take a step towards creating a better urban environment with efficient urban policies which
could cope up with the rapidly changing world.
As Richard Rogers said, "The only way forward if we are going to improve the quality of the
environment, is to get everybody

Butter is the transformed product of milk. So naturally all the nutrient properties present in milk
transfer to butter after its formation. According to the place, the availability of milk will differ. In
some place cows will be more in number and in some sheep will be. So each type of butter is having
its own importance. The properties which are explained by the great sages are also proven by
modern scientists. Butter contains many nutrients that protect against heart disease including
vitamins A, D, K2, and E, lecithin, iodine and selenium. A Medical Research Council survey
showed that men eating butter ran half the risk of developing heart disease as those using margarine.
The short– and medium–chain fatty acids in butter have strong anti–tumour effects. Conjugated
linoleic acid (CLA) in butter from grass–fed cows also gives excellent protection against cancer. The
Wulzen or "anti–stiffness" factor in raw butter and also Vitamin K2 in grass–fed butter, protect
against calcification of the joints as well as hardening of the arteries, cataracts and calcification of
the pineal gland. Calves fed pasteurized milk or skim milk develop joint stiffness and do not thrive.
Vitamins A, D and K2 in butter are essential for the proper absorption of calcium and phosphorus
and hence necessary for strong bones and teeth. Butter is a good source of iodine, in a highly
absorbable form.

Essay on Analysis of Stille's Ganges' Next Life
Bathing in the Ganges is a religious tradition that is an integral part of daily life in India. It
represents a purification of the soul, as Stille states, "...[A] river that, because of its divine origin, is
pure and purifies all those faithful who immerse themselves in her," (598). However, presently, there
exists a dilemma that threatens the survival of this tradition: the poor condition of the river. The
river is polluted with "raw sewage, human and industrial waste, the charred remains of bodies, and
animal carcasses" (598). In the Ganges' Next Life, Alexander Stille contrasts traditional and modern
values. Traditional Hindu values, yet somewhat primitive, reflect thousands of years of experience
and practice. Modern values, on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Nevertheless, he recognizes that environmental safety and other modern ideals cannot be avoided.
Demonstrating his acceptance of technology's ubiquity, Mishra says, "These things–satellite

and expands, the disparity between the two ideals becomes increasingly noticeable and unavoidable.
Although modern and traditional values are very distinct, they have already begun to merge in many
aspects of Indian life. For example, television, a relatively new technology, has been adapted for the
traditional purpose of worshipping. Indian families set up television sets on altars and worship
before them when viewing religious films. At a glance, this practice appears to be sacrilegious and
almost sinful. However, they are not worshipping the technology, but rather utilizing the technology
to worship their gods. Also, when celebrating the wedding anniversary of the gods Shiva and
Parvati, Indians decorate shrines with flashing electric lights pulsing disco music. In the

Symbolization Of Rani
FICTIONALIZATION OF HISTORY IN JAYASREE MISRA'S NOVEL RANI
Abstract: The famous Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi is often celebrated as icon of our freedom struggle,
symbol of bravery and a beacon of light. We have idolized her as a goddess– a role model for
women, rarely trying to examine and even deliberately ignoring her human aspect. The novel traces
all the historical events in Rani's life which form the skeletal framework of the manuscript but it
goes beyond that to fill in the flesh and blood through the emotional turmoil and experiences of its
characters. The present paper analyzes the mix of history with fiction in the novel Rani.

Spirituality And Mysticism In Varanasi
'Banaras is older than history, older than tradition, older even than legend, and looks twice as old as

Benaras, Kashi or Varanasi, whatever it may be called, this city has been enthralling people from far
and wide, since ages. The spirituality and mysticism of Varanasi, epitomizes everything Indian in a
different and better way than many other cities. Though it is considered as one of the oldest living
cities of the world, yet it presents an incomparable blend of tradition and modernism existing side

Differences Of Hinduism And Hinduism
Hinduism is one big family of beliefs that unites the worship of many gods with a belief in a single
divine reality. Hinduism does not have an identifiable founder nor a structure in place to defend it
and spread its guidance, or a creed to steady its beliefs. At first many of its teachings and scriptures
were passed down orally but eventually, were written down for all to cherish. In Christianity we find
that Jesus is the originator of this religion, and is purely a missionary religion. Traveling and
branching out to as many people as possible to spread the teachings of Jesus Christ. Also, in similar
sense there are many denominations within the religion that have different teachings but all usually
lead to the same result, reaching heaven and living eternally with Christ himself.
Hinduism has many deities that are worshipped. Depending on what type of deity you worship
depends on one's own personality or age. The most common deities prayed to would be the three in
the Trimurti. Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva and represent the forces of creation, preservation, and
destruction. Brahma is the god of creation and often depicted as having four faces looking in all
directions and eight arms holding symbols of power. Vishnu is the god of preserving the universe
and is often depicted as having four arms holding symbols of power and usually wears a tall crown.
Shiva is the god of destruction but also recreation. Shiva could be the most misunderstood god in
Hinduism because most people

How Does Samsara Contribute To The Pollution Of The Ganges...
The Ganges River is the most holy and most polluted river in India. Everyday the river is filled with
waste, oil, and even dead bodies. The pollution of the river has drastically increased over the last
fifteen years. The Ganges River runs through one of the most sacred Hindu cities in India also
known as Varanasi. In Hinduism, rivers are known to be "worshiped for embodying the divine,
creative, female energy that generate the universe". This explains why Hindus feel the need to bathe
and throw ashes or valuables into the river. There are certain ideas in the religion that affect the
abuse of the river. The Hindu concepts of samsara and Brahman are possible contributors to the
pollution of the Ganges River, whereas karma is a potential solution. ... Show more content on

Contrary to popular belief, karma literally means action. Hindus want good karma so that they will
proceed in a better state for the next life in hope of eventually reaching moksha. The idea that doing
good will help a Hindu reach their ultimate goal is what could inspire them to clean the river.
Although, Hindus cannot simply do a good deed such as cleaning a river to have good karma. One
must perform a kindly act selflessly opposed to just doing it to better themselves. If more Hindus
selflessly helped clean the Ganges River, then the massive environmental problem could possibly be
diminished. The Ganges River in India is in the unfortunate state of pollution today because of the
Hindu beliefs of samsara and Brahman, but karma could be a possible fix to the problem. If Hindus
realize the cause of their actions and also how they can help solve the dilemma, it could change the
condition of the beloved and holy river

Discussion: The aim of the experiment was to be using filtration techniques to help craft a makeshift
water filter. The hypothesis for the experiment was that the dirty water containing dirt, rocks, trash
and chemicals would all be separated by three fine screens, activated charcoal, sand, and tissue. This
would keep out the unwanted materials and eventually filter into purified water. The makeshift filter
was crafted with a soda bottle, funnel, fine screen, activated charcoal, sand, containers, paper towels
and a bottle cap. The soda bottle was cut in half and the bottle cap was closed with a paper towel

Pump Breastmilk At Work By Lakshmi Varanasi Summary
The article "Frontier Airlines Pilots Sue Over No Accommodations to Pump Breastmilk at Work" by
Lakshmi Varanasi talks about four female Frontier pilots and a woman named Angela Ames. Each of
these people were pregnant working women that just needed a place to pump their breastmilk or a
place to sit down to rest. Their companies denied them a place to pump or sit down; which then
resulted in them being in extreme pain and having medical problems.
The four Frontier pilots were filing discrimination charges against their employer for failing to
provide accommodations related to pregnancy and breastfeeding. There were no lactation rooms or

But as I kept reading I learned even with the Affordable Care Act there is many loopholes
companies can go through depending on the size of the firm and type of employee. These women
were stripped of their rights; therefore, proper laws should be put in place to avoid situations like
these ever again. It was disheartening to read how these women were treated by their workplace.
Women are the ones who bring life into this world, they create a human being inside their body.
Pregnancy which any woman who has been pregnant would know is not easy, it's painful, tiring, and
sometimes almost unbearable. We should be doing everything we can to make sure a woman who is
pregnant is comfortable. It's so simple to make one designated place for women to pump their
breastmilk. If a pregnant woman needs to rest she has every right to take a break, she's carrying
around another person inside her. Also, when a woman is pregnant her body is changing drastically
and it's uncomfortable for them. The loopholes that companies can go through should be abolished,
there needs to be a set strict law on accommodations for pregnant/breastfeeding women. Lastly it's
not fair for a woman who's pregnant to have to take a leave of absence before her due date and for it
to be unpaid. When they go on maternity leave they should

Hindus used these practices as a way to reflect on the stories of the gods such as Shiva and how they
protected the earth and helped the people. For instance, how the text describes Shiva using his hair
to break Ganga's fall so she wouldn't destroy the earth as she fell. Kamal writes, "Shiva again
intervened, catching the falling river in a lock of his matter hair where she wandered for years until
the energy of her fall was spent. She trickled out gently, purifying and fructifying the earth. The

Critical Importance of Attending a Large-scale Religious...
Throughout a Hindu renouncer's life, attending large–scale religious events are incredibly important.
For some, it gives them a chance to market themselves to the public and gather more followers. For
others it's about the religious experience that comes with the journey. Either way these events give
renouncer a break from their normal routine and they gather with other renouncers to share worldly
views or criticize each other's actions. The Kumbh Mela and Yatras are two of many large–scale
religious events that renouncers utilize for personal and religious gain.
Every three years on a twelve–year cycle, Hindus gather at the Ganges River for a religious festival.
The festival is called the Kumbh Mela, and it draws crowds of over thirty million people at the
banks of the Ganges. Everyone gathers in large numbers because they believe that long ago, four
drops from the nectar of immortality spilled from a pitcher (kumbh) in the heavens while the Gods
battled demons in a twelve–day fight. The drops of nectar fell in four locations around India near the
Ganges River. During this twelve–year cycle, the nectar of immortality is believed to flow into the
Ganges, which is why so many people show up. Believers come to this festival to praise the gods
and also hope to wash away their sins in the Ganges. Throughout the course of the Kumbh Mela,

Spiritual Uplift by Taking a Pilgrimage to Asia Essay
Needing Spiritual Upliftment? Three Pilgrimage Sites to Visit in Asia
Feeling there is something amiss in your religious/spiritual life? Wondering how you can relieve the
stress, rediscover your faith and attain spiritual nourishment? Looking to strengthen your religious
devotion? Then this calls for you to travel to some of Asia's pilgrimage sites.
If you are adhering to a certain faith, it could be one of those that have its roots in Asia. The
continent is the birthplace to three monotheist faiths: Judaism, Christianity and Islam (all three in the
Middle East). It is also home to Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism (in the Indian
subcontinent). Confucianism and Taoism long existed in China, and Shintoism is deeply rooted in
Japan. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Mashhad (Khorasan Razavi, Iran)
If Jerusalem is the holiest city for the Jews, then Mashhad in Iran is the holiest to the Shiite
Muslims. Literally meaning "the burning place of the martyr", Mashhad is the site of martyrdom of
one of the most revered figures in Shia Islam. The Imam Reza shrine (a complex housing the
martyr's mausoleum) was later built in his honor. The shrine is one of the many shrines that Shiite
Muslims visit for pilgrimage.
Mashhad is easily accessible through air travel, with domestic trips to and from Tehran and other
cities and international trips to and from countries including Bahrain, UAE, Kuwait and Saudi
Arabia.
Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh, India)
Varanasi is to Hinduism as Jerusalem is to the Jews. A city along the famed Ganges River of India,
Varanasi is the main center of pilgrimage for Hindus from all over the world who come to pray and
bath in the Ganges every year. Devout Hindus believe that by bathing or cleansing themselves in the
waters of Ganges at Varanasi, they can be absolved of their sins and attain higher birth status at
reincarnation, thus driving many Hindus to come to the area for their final journey in life. True to its
Hindu religiosity, the city hosts a number of religious festivals every year, most importantly the
Maha Shivratri, a feast dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Varanasi is also holy to the

Colonialism In India

  • 1. Colonialism In India Global distribution of material wealth is a significant ongoing debate in today's society. Globalization along with social inequality was seen as a direct result of post–colonialism. While some had benefitted from colonialism, others did not. Between two articles, it was proven that cities who failed to benefit from colonialism can thrive due to citizens from beneficial countries. Migrants along with the community were able to benefit financially and economically. Both articles used an observation process for recording data. Finally, migrants in Panama engaged with locals, however, westerners did not socialize with the citizens of India. In the first article presented A Postcolonial Imagination? Westerners searching for Authenticity in India written by Mari Korpela it was portrayed that Westerners who went to India were able to benefit financially, as well as the communities in India itself. Similarly, like other countries, India was colonized by Britain. In previous times during colonization, it was seen as the "white man's burden'' (Korpela 2010). Colonialists lived separately from the people in Varanasi, India and did not want to be in the country (Korpela 2010). However, the westerners who were staying in Varanasi simply stayed by choice. Most westerners come from places such as the United States, Canada, and other European countries ( Korpela 2010). These countries were economically developed and were examples of countries who benefited from colonialism and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. A Case Discussion On Eczema A CASE DISCUSSION ON ECZEMAAbstract Eczema is a form of dermatitis where inflammation of epidermis occurs. The exact cause of eczema is not known. Although it is activated by the immune system and is related to allergic reactions, it is not the same as other allergic reactions. Controlling eczema more effectively can make a radical improvement to the patient 's quality of life. A case report of an 11–year–old male who has a severe eczema presented with complaints of rashes, intense itchy and may scale and blisters has been presented here. Keyword: Eczema. Introduction The word eczema comes from the Greek word ekzein meaning "to boil out"; word ek means "out", while zema means boiling (Varanasi, 2000 in Hedge et.al, 2010). The exact cause of eczema is not known. People with eczema do have the IgE antibodies (immunoglobulin E) produced by the immune system as part of allergic reactions. Eczema can be a difficult and frustrating condition. The psychological challenge faced by the patients of eczema is insurmountable. The natural human desire to scratch an itchy rash just makes the condition worse. In 2009 a study carried out by scientists at the University of Edinburgh concluded that the defects in a particular gene known as the filaggrin gene are linked to a considerably amplified risk of developing allergic disorders such as eczema, rhinitis, and asthma (Varanasi, 2000 in Hedge et.al, 2010). The typical locations of eczema include the face (scalp and around the eyes), the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Ganga River Essay The Ganges River, which is popularly known by its own Hindu name–Ganga, is the symbol of India's ancient culture and civilization. This river is the most sacred river in Hinduism. People believe that taking a dip into the water of the Ganges will purify their souls from all committed sins in the past, so they can go to heaven. The Ganges River flows from the top of the southern side of the Himalayas in the state of Uttarakhand. In the article, "Ganges River," the author Jay Yett says, "The Ganges River flows about 2,500 kilometers across the Gangetic Plain and through a coastal delta in Bangladesh to empty into the Bay of Bengal." Not only does it provide water to India, but also to Bangladesh. The major cities that rely on the water of the Ganges are Varanasi, Kolkata, Haridwar, Allahabad, Patna, Kanpur, and Ghazipur. Today, this river is one of the most polluted rivers in the world. According to the article, "Metal and Pesticide Pollution Scenario in Ganga River System," Srikanta Samanta reports that there has been a huge increase in pollution compared to the 9,000 tons in 2009. Since then, she reveals that approximately 22,000 tons of pesticides have been pumped into the river basin (Samanta 355). Each year, thousands of bodies are cremated on the banks of the river, with many being disposed of directly into the river. Furthermore, unwanted babies (i.e, unwanted girl children), cattle, and other animal bodies are also dumped into the river. Observers can say that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. The Road To Awareness, By David Foster Wallace The Road to Awareness The author David Foster Wallace gave the commencement speech at a liberal arts college some years ago, which began with the parable of fish not knowing of the existence of water. That speech delineates the value of a liberal arts education. In a word, that value is awareness. Awareness means the freedom or ability to choose what to value, what to think about, when our lives are really little more than routine. By breaking our routine, the road teaches awareness in two important ways. The first way the road makes you aware is by forcing you to ask questions. When you experience situations for the first time, questions arise. For example, when you attend a full moon party on the bank of the Ganges river in Varanasi, you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. Comparing The Catholic Pilgrimage To St Peter's Basilica Introduction: Good morning everyone. Today I want to talk to you about pilgrimage. I want to focus on two pilgrimages in particular; the Hindu pilgrimage to the Indian city of Varanasi, and the Catholic pilgrimage to St Peter's Basilica in Rome. To quote Steve Branmn and Jim Rawls, "A pilgrimage is a journey inward as well as outward. Pilgrims seek to strengthen and renew their faith through travel." Therefore today I want to try and prove that the religious significance of a pilgrimage to St Peter's Basilica and Varanasi are similar, as both serve the purpose of renewing faith through travel, and also educating pilgrims on the history of their religion. Body 1: Both the Hindu pilgrimage to Varanasi, and the Catholic pilgrimage to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Basilica features many instances of an upside down cross. This represents St Peter's crucifixion upside down, – he was crucified like this because he did not want to defame Jesus by dying in the same way he did. Another more prominent feature of the Basilica; the alter and the dome that sits above it represent the holy trinity. The holy spirit being the dove that sits on the alter, the son being the cross that sits on top of the alter, and the father being the top–most part of the dome. Symbolism is also prominent in the Hindu pilgrimage to Varanasi. Temples located in the city are each devoted to a god, or an aspect of Hinduism. As I mentioned earlier, the The Kasha Vishwanath temple dedicated to Shiva. The Bharat Mata temple is dedicated to 'mother India.' The Durga Mata Temple was built in the 18th century for the Hindu Goddess Durga. The two pilgrimages can be linked through their symbolism. Each pilgrimage includes symbolic monuments that represent various aspects of their religion.

The religion that considers this text sacred is Buddhism. Summary– Five monks were addressed at the deer park at isipatana near Varanasi while the blessed one was staying there. He stated two extremes that don't need to be practiced; the addiction to indulgence of sense pleasures, and the addiction to self–mortification finding them both unworthy and unprofitable. Tathagata realized the middle path gives vision, knowledge, leads to calm, insight, to enlightenment, and to Nibbana. The Noble Truths can be explained as a lifecycle on the path to "nirvana." We hang on to unsatisfying painful things (dukkha), Desire keeps us in samsara, the cycle of rebirth and dying continuously, while still dealing with durkkha. The cycle can only be ended by attaining nirvana (after rebirth dukkha won't be a temptation). This can be accomplished by following the eightfold path, restraining oneself, demonstrating discipline, and practicing meditation. The twelve ways (modes) are obtained by applying these three aspects to each of the Truths; The knowledge that it is the Truth. The knowledge that a certain function regarding this Truth should be performed. The knowledge that the function regarding this Truth has been performed. The blessed one also went on to say if his knowledge of seeing things the way they really are weren't clear in the three aspects and the twelve ways concerning the truths, he didn't claim to have achieved supreme enlightenment, However, when his knowledge of seeing things the way they were was clear he achieved supreme enlightenment. Coca–Cola, or simple coke, has existed for over a century, originating in Atlanta, Georgia in 1892, and eventually expanding and providing drinks internationally. Today, the company produces concentrate, which then sells to Coke licensed bottlers internationally; and ultimately ending up sold to retail stores and vending machines for consumers to purchase. Aside from the government, the company's opportunities can also be controlled by private politics such as protests, public criticism, interest groups as well as public sentiment towards the company. (Baron p.31). The other factor that can affect opportunities is moral concerns, which Coke seems to be going through this issue right now. Coke should formulate a policy that oversees the use of water in India, which is the major concern of groups in private politics. Interest groups that are in play from the surrounding villages in India include: anti–coke nongovernmental activist groups, Varanasi–based activist, environmentalist, politicians, farmers and the villagers that have created lives in surrounding areas. Leading from within these interest groups is The Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board; a statutory organization entrusted to implement Environmental Laws and rules within the jurisdiction of the state of Uttar Pradesh, India (UPPCB). The Control Board had found that Coke violated a number of conditions of its license that had to do with the use of water. The company had not yet obtained clearance for the extraction of groundwater from the Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA), a government agency that monitors and regulates the process in water–stressed areas (The economic Times). Aurangzeb was felt that he had not only become greater than administer the empire in a better way, but also to protect and strengthen particularly its Sunni Islam faith. In order to achieve its objective of strengthening Islam, his father was imprisoned, he killed his brothers, he forced his son Akbar to revolt and have a miserable life. He also forced the Rajputs, the Jat Sikhs and Marathas to revolt, destroyed the states of Bijapur and Golconda and imposed political, economic and social disabilities of their Muslim subjects in order to convert them to Islam. • 68. Comparing Judaism And Hinduism : Judaism Vs. Hinduism Judaism and Hinduism Michelle Zhang Georgia Military College Judaism and Hinduism Judaism and Hinduism are two widely known and oldest religions in the world. Both of these religions have sacred texts and laws that are still used and followed today. Judaism and Hinduism both have social class systems that separate the higher religious followers from the average person (Hutchinson, 2017a) (Levinson, 2017). Judaism is a religion that is monotheistic, belief in one god (Hutchinson, 2017a). Those who practice the religion of Hinduism can be considered a "monotheist, polytheist, or atheist" (Levinson, 2017). Judaism and Hinduism share similar traits including celebrations and their followers being persecuted but have different sacred locations that their followers visit, texts, and founders. Judaism was founded by a wealthy leader named Abraham (Hutchinson, 2017b). Yahweh (God) appeared to Abraham and told him that he would bless his people if they "obeyed and worshipped Him" (Hutchinson, 2017b). At this time, the Hebrew people were polytheistic, meaning they believed in many different gods. Over time, the Hebrews began to realize God would make a way for them every time they faced hardships. This made them monotheistic, and they began to follow only the supreme God (Hutchinson, 2017a). Hinduism was not founded by one specific person or people. Hindus have the option to worship one god, many gods, or even none at all (Levinson, 2017). To Hindus, it is more important to perform rituals and stay true to the old traditions that have been passed down from their ancestors (Levinson, 2017). There are gods that Hindus worship, but only worshipping and not keeping alive the old traditions means nothing. Judaism and Hinduism have sacred texts and places for their religion. Judaism has the Torah, which were teachings given to Moses who was a messenger of God (Hutchinson, 2017a). The Torah includes the history of how the religion came to be and laws that the Jews should obey. The Jews' sacred place is Jerusalem. After the Holocaust in World War II, "the United Nations created a country just for Jews" ("Judaism," 2012). They felt this was needed after the mistreatment of the Jews. • 81. The Ganges River Of India The Ganges River in India is an important river system that provides water for personal use, industry, and agriculture for well over half a million people. This river also serves a major role in the region's cultural and religious practices. It is widely believed that this body of water is the Earthly manifestation of the Hindu goddess Ganga. For thousands of years, people have believed that Ganga can wash away a lifetime of sins and, therefore, no amount of pollution can harm her (Conway). As a result of this belief, industrial, agricultural, and human waste are dumped into the river on a daily basis. Hindus also believe that bathing themselves in the water of the river will wash away all of their sins and grant spiritual rewards such as "deliverance from sin and attainment of nirvana (Das)." Hindus believe that to die on the banks of the Ganges is an "assurance of heavenly bliss and will grant emancipation from the eternal cycle of birth and death (Das)." Due to this belief, millions of people use the banks of the river for cremation and burial (BBC). Aside from religious ceremonies, poor people who cannot afford to be cremated are wrapped in white muslin and placed in the river (BBC). Following ceremonies, the ashes and dead bodies are dumped into the river. These religious practices are believed to be a primary cause of the degraded water quality of the Ganges River near Varanasi. Over the centuries, from an urge to find shelter... the growth has been exploding metropolis of mankind. Urban policies and leadership is a manifestation of many stages of evolution. If we look at our recent past, cities of the 20th century were built on the basis of function, rationality, technical innovation and changes in social structure; which have laid a foundation for concentrated human population and habitats in the urban area. We thought we were making a great progress in creating a better environment around us, but due to our neglecting urban policies and lack of leadership, we are seeing crisis every day which is facing the global environment leading to the loss of our culture. While entering the 21st century we are realizing the after effects of the bad urban policies which are resulting in abnormal weather, pollution of air, water and ground. Now in the present scenario, the concept of economic development is looked upon as a policy which brings only momentary prosperity and lacks the welfare of the public. Symbolization Of Rani FICTIONALIZATION OF HISTORY IN JAYASREE MISRA'S NOVEL RANI Abstract: The famous Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi is often celebrated as icon of our freedom struggle, symbol of bravery and a beacon of light. We have idolized her as a goddess– a role model for women, rarely trying to examine and even deliberately ignoring her human aspect. The novel traces all the historical events in Rani's life which form the skeletal framework of the manuscript but it goes beyond that to fill in the flesh and blood through the emotional turmoil and experiences of its characters. Also, in similar sense there are many denominations within the religion that have different teachings but all usually lead to the same result, reaching heaven and living eternally with Christ himself. Hinduism has many deities that are worshipped. Depending on what type of deity you worship depends on one's own personality or age. • 125. How Does Samsara Contribute To The Pollution Of The Ganges... The Ganges River is the most holy and most polluted river in India. Everyday the river is filled with waste, oil, and even dead bodies. The pollution of the river has drastically increased over the last fifteen years. The Ganges River runs through one of the most sacred Hindu cities in India also known as Varanasi. In Hinduism, rivers are known to be "worshiped for embodying the divine, creative, female energy that generate the universe". This explains why Hindus feel the need to bathe and throw ashes or valuables into the river. There are certain ideas in the religion that affect the abuse of the river. The Hindu concepts of samsara and Brahman are possible contributors to the pollution of the Ganges River, whereas karma is a potential solution. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Contrary to popular belief, karma literally means action. Hindus want good karma so that they will proceed in a better state for the next life in hope of eventually reaching moksha. The idea that doing good will help a Hindu reach their ultimate goal is what could inspire them to clean the river. Although, Hindus cannot simply do a good deed such as cleaning a river to have good karma. One must perform a kindly act selflessly opposed to just doing it to better themselves. If more Hindus selflessly helped clean the Ganges River, then the massive environmental problem could possibly be diminished. The Ganges River in India is in the unfortunate state of pollution today because of the Hindu beliefs of samsara and Brahman, but karma could be a possible fix to the problem. If Hindus realize the cause of their actions and also how they can help solve the dilemma, it could change the condition of the beloved and holy river ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The hypothesis for the experiment was that the dirty water containing dirt, rocks, trash and chemicals would all be separated by three fine screens, activated charcoal, sand, and tissue. This would keep out the unwanted materials and eventually filter into purified water. The makeshift filter was crafted with a soda bottle, funnel, fine screen, activated charcoal, sand, containers, paper towels and a bottle cap. The soda bottle was cut in half and the bottle cap was closed with a paper towel under the bottle cap with some tissue sticking out. Sand was poured in the bottle cap side, then a fine screen was put over, then activated charcoal and another fine screen with a huge funnel put in to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The dirty water was poured in and turned from brown to light yellow. The results were almost similar as the screen separated the large materials, the activated charcoal significantly cleaned the water, the sand strained some materials and the paper towel made the water drip and filtered some microscopic particles. Although it was expected to turn into clean water, it instead went to a light yellow colour. The experiment had some difficulties where the filter couldn't stand by itself, so a ring stand had to support the filter. Then there was another problem with a counterweight, so a number of weights had to be placed on the ring stand in order to keep the makeshift water filter from falling. Another problem was that as the water went through the fine screens they had kept on falling ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pump Breastmilk At Work By Lakshmi Varanasi Summary The article "Frontier Airlines Pilots Sue Over No Accommodations to Pump Breastmilk at Work" by Lakshmi Varanasi talks about four female Frontier pilots and a woman named Angela Ames. Each of these people were pregnant working women that just needed a place to pump their breastmilk or a place to sit down to rest. Their companies denied them a place to pump or sit down; which then resulted in them being in extreme pain and having medical problems. The four Frontier pilots were filing discrimination charges against their employer for failing to provide accommodations related to pregnancy and breastfeeding. There were no lactation rooms or dedicated breaks, which resulted in them developing mastitis and losing their milk supply prematurely. On ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But as I kept reading I learned even with the Affordable Care Act there is many loopholes companies can go through depending on the size of the firm and type of employee. These women were stripped of their rights; therefore, proper laws should be put in place to avoid situations like these ever again. It was disheartening to read how these women were treated by their workplace. Women are the ones who bring life into this world, they create a human being inside their body. Pregnancy which any woman who has been pregnant would know is not easy, it's painful, tiring, and sometimes almost unbearable. We should be doing everything we can to make sure a woman who is pregnant is comfortable. It's so simple to make one designated place for women to pump their breastmilk. If a pregnant woman needs to rest she has every right to take a break, she's carrying around another person inside her. Also, when a woman is pregnant her body is changing drastically and it's uncomfortable for them. The loopholes that companies can go through should be abolished, there needs to be a set strict law on accommodations for pregnant/breastfeeding women. Lastly it's not fair for a woman who's pregnant to have to take a leave of absence before her due date and for it to be unpaid. When they go on maternity leave they should ... The drops of nectar fell in four locations around India near the Ganges River. During this twelve–year cycle, the nectar of immortality is believed to flow into the Ganges, which is why so many people show up. Believers come to this festival to praise the gods and also hope to wash away their sins in the Ganges. Throughout the course of the Kumbh Mela, over 120 million people will make the trip out to the Ganges and the festival can last up to 55 days. At this time, many renouncers and ...
