Global News:
The dollar rose against the euro on Friday, boosted by technical factors after the single
currency hit key resistance levels, even as the greenback’s outlook remained bleak amid
cautious signals from the Federal Reserve about further rate hikes. This week’s Fed
minutes, which underscored the U.S. central bank’s flexibility on monetary policy,
triggered dollar selling that lifted the euro as high as $1.1581 and propelled it past a 100-
day moving average for the first time in three months. Markets, however, are pricing in
no further rate hikes by the Fed this year .
The pound jumped on Friday on growing expectations that Britain will seek to delay its
scheduled departure date from the European Union.A denial by Prime Minister Theresa
May’s spokeswoman of a newspaper report knocked sterling off highs but it remained
up on the day, with analysts citing a growing sense among some investors that Britain
will not be leaving the EU on March 29. Two of the biggest donors to the Brexit
campaign told Reuters they now believe the project they championed will eventually be
abandoned by the government, underlining the uncertainty about what will happen
after March 29.
Gold prices rose on Thursday as growing expectations that the U.S. Federal Reserve will
pause its rate tightening cycle this year and an impasse between U.S. President Donald
Trump and Democrats on funding for a border wall weighed on the dollar. Spot gold was
up 0.2 percent at $1,295.85 per ounce, hovering near Friday's peak of $1,298.42 - a level
last seen in mid-June.

Jordanian Prime Minister Omar Al-Razzaz said Friday the World Bank agreed to offer USD 1.2
billion loan for Jordan to help reschedule its debts and improve investment in the public and
private sectors. This is the largest easy term loan from the World Bank to the Kingdom of
Jordan," Petra quoted the Prime Minister as saying.
Once again, the housing sector finds itself in an unfavourable situation, as the Jordan
Housing Developers Association (JHDA) finalised its 2018 statistics last week to find a 13 per
cent overall decline in trade volume compared with 2017, and a 25 per cent drop compared
with 2016. “The sector has been steadily collapsing and I am afraid it is going to hit rock
bottom in 2019,” President of JHDA Zuhair Omari said.
Jordan’s economy is expected to grow by 2.3 per cent in 2019 and witness a slight increase
in 2020 and 2021, according to a World Bank report. In its “2019 Global Economic Prospects”
report, the World Bank indicated that Jordan’s economy is expected to achieve a growth
rate of 2.4 per cent in 2020 and 2.7 per cent in 2021.The bank’s forecast for this year is close
to the projections of the Ministry of Finance, which estimates that the Kingom’s economy
would grow by 2.5 per cent in 2020 and 2.7 per cent in 2021
Saudi Aramco will issue bonds which will probably be in the 10 billion range, Saudi Arabia’s
energy minister .Khalid al-Falih, speaking at a conference in Abu Dhabi, did not specify the
currency of the planned debt issuance but last week he said at an event in Riyadh that the
bonds - which would be Aramco’s debut in the international debt markets - are likely to be
denominated in U.S. dollars. The Saudi oil giant will issue the bonds in the second quarter
of this year.
Egypt plans to issue $2 billion worth of Japanese yen denominated bonds in the coming
week, two government sources said. Proceeds from the issue of so-called Samurai bonds
will be used to repay debts of state oil company Egyptian General Petroleum Corp (EGPC)
