Global News:
The dollar fell against the euro on Friday, after data showed U.S. employers hired fewer
workers than forecast in November, raising worries that U.S. growth is moderating and the
Federal Reserve may stop raising rates sooner than previously thought. Fed policymakers are
still widely expected to raise interest rates again at their Dec. 18-19 meeting, but the focus is
on how many rate hikes will follow in 2019.
Sterling fell on Friday and was headed for a fourth consecutive week of losses as British
Prime Minister Theresa May pressed ahead with plans for a parliamentary vote on her Brexit
deal despite warnings it could topple her government. Sterling’s near-term fate hangs on
whether May can win a majority for her Brexit deal in a vote on Dec. 11 that will define
Britain’s departure from the European Union scheduled for March. The Times newspaper
reported on Thursday that senior ministers were urging May to delay the vote for fear of a
rout but her spokesman has said it would go ahead as planned.
OPEC and its Russia-led allies agreed on Friday to slash oil production by more than the
market had expected despite pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump to reduce the price of crude. The producer club will curb
output from January by 0.8 million barrels per day versus October levels while non-OPEC allies contribute an additional 0.4 million
bpd of cuts, in a move to be reviewed at a meeting in April. Oil prices jumped about 5 percent to more than $63 a barrel as the
combined cut of 1.2 million bpd was larger than the minimum 1 million bpd that the market had expected.
Gold rose to near a five month peak on a weaker dollar and on expectation the pace of U.S interest rate hikes will slow down.
“Spot gold reached 1,244.32 per ounce.”

November 2018, a 14-per cent drop from the same period in 2017, when the total deals’

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on Tuesday signed a multi-
year $265-million loan agreement with the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO), seek-
ing to enhance the integration of renewable sources into the national power network and
advance corporate reforms within the company.
The United Arab Emirates economy will grow between 2.5 and 3 percent in 2018, before
rising to more than 3 percent in 2019, its economy minister, Sultan bin Saeed al-Mansouri,
told reporters on Wednesday. The latest projections are in line with forecasts made by the
International Monetary Fund, which said in October it expects the Arab world's second
biggest economy is likely to expand 2.9 percent this year and 3.7 percent next year.
Qatar announced on Monday it will leave the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting
Countries (OPEC) starting next January to focus on gas, and the United Arab Emir-
ates (UAE) described Doha’s decision as a reflection of the decline of its “role and influ-
ence”.
