2. On the left NME have put a band index in order for readers to quickly
look at to see if there are any of their favourite artists/bands in order for
there to be a real interested in that specific issue of the magazine. At the
top they have used the same NME logo in order for their to be instant
realisation of representation that it presents to its readers. Typography has
been used in order to create a buzz about the magazine they are reading
and also create professionalism. NME has became so big that the name
has become a brand and using this typography will only help the
magazines popularity amongst consumers. In the middle is clearly a big
story in which NME have given an early taster for. I think this clever but I
do prefer the traditional multiple of images in the centre of the page to
represent many features. On the right is the features in the magazine and
of course this is typical of any magazine contents page. It gives little sub
headings of the band/artist/main news and then gives a little description
underneath in which I think is a good idea in order to create a much
bigger interest. Overall the layout looks really good and gives good
connotations of indie/alternative music in which I am looking at but also
keeping a good tone and colour scheme throughout.

3. At the top of the page „Kerrang‟ nice and simply put “Contents” in which I
think is quite quirky as audiences would clearly expect that to be the
contents page. It uses multiple images in which I prefer to represent the
many stories and gives the page a much more interesting look but its not
too over powering. These images all have page numbers which is
conventional for a contents page of any magazine but also a little
description with the images. Although it looks good, I think I am more
likely to go with NME‟s idea of descriptions under the story sub headings
as I feel it is easier for readers, especially as I am going for a younger
audience who want to get away from their work load. They have given a
clear representation of their rock theme and genre with the mise-en-scene
in the pictures but also the colour scheme used gives connotations of a rock
scene.

4. Again, we see very similar layout features involved with Q magazine like
there was with both Kerrang and NME. Although this contents page does
use multiple images, its almost as if they‟ve created an effect in which
they‟ve thrown the images on the page. This almost creates a magazine
attitude that they may be trying to get their readers to personalise
themselves with. There is also that conventional layout of features almost
being in a list down one side of a page. This looks neat and tidy and almost
seems as if it is something in which I have to include on my magazine in
order for it to look professional and meet the ideologies of a music
magazine to the audience. The top of the page is quite bear with the issue
number taking up the space, this is quite unique and may be a feature in
which they feel the consumers will constantly link with the magazine. It
also shows off the high status the institution has with the large amount of
issues that they have released.
