Describe the goals of the Helping Hand Spokesperson Program HH Spokespeople give brief (5 min.) presentations to local audiences about Helping Hand Center Target area Churches Describe the goals of the Helping Hand Spokesperson Program Each person gives 4presentations to different church groups
5. Why is this needed? To increase awareness about HH Center as a neighbor and our mission: HH Mission is To assist individuals with developmental disabilities achieve their highest levelsof independence.

Before you introduce yourself, think of the most memorable neighbor you’ve had. Write down a few words or key phrases that describe the person(s). Introduce yourself: name, township and neighbor description.Transition: Just as memorable neighbors have left impression on you, HH wants to leave a positive memorable impression on its neighbors
Facilitator of the session delivers a 5 min. presentation without using any slides or flipcharts. The presentation should cover:HH MissionHH Programs – at least 3 and their benefitsA personal storyWhere to get additional information or have your questions answered.
The end state or larger impact of the HH Spokesperson program is to have people feel:More comfortable who HH is and what HH doesLike they have a new neighbor in HHConsider HH as a place to volunteerThey should not feel that this presentation was or is a financial solicitation.

Review each tip and 1st demonstrate the incorrect way, then follow with the tip for success.Eye contact – one-to-one connection with all in the room. Sustain for 4 – 7 seconds or one complete thought.Voice – project for the size of the room, slow down (most people speed up when nervous), expressive intonation, no filler words!Stance – plant in one place and move with purpose only (change slides or flipchart, distribute materials)Gesture – use only to underscore the most important point, must be big to be seen, and natural as well.
An effective presentation should have:A strong opening to “hook” in the audience. Explaining “what’s in it for them” helps.A middle with 3 simple pointsA closing that leaves them feeling good.Please remember this is not a solicitation for funds!
Allow 5 – 6 minutes for preparation, and then ask for volunteers to give at least the opening 2 lines of their presentation
