Beginning in first grade, students have access
to computer technology.
In the elementary grades, computer
instruction centers on teaching basic
familiarity with computers, essential
keyboarding skills, and computer projects that
are integrated with core classroom instruction.
 In the junior and senior high program, computer
instruction builds upon the skills gained in the lower
grades by bringing the application of computer
technology to real world situations.
 Computer ethics, computers in society and business,
computer systems, word processing, spreadsheets,
database management, and multimedia authoring
are some of the units covered.
 Training in effective instructional strategies is critical
 Distance education courses should be carefully
 Adequate support systems must be in place to provide
the distant learner
 Visualization of ideas and concepts is critical
 Distance education or distance learning is a mode of
delivering education and instruction, often on an
individual basis, to students who are physical present in
a traditional setting such as a classroom. Distance
learning provides “access to learning when the source of
information and the learners are separated by time and
distance, or both”.
 Eminent historian Frederick Jackson Turner ran the
correspondence program of the University of Wisconsin
in the late 1800s.
 Telemedicine refers to medicine at distance, and telelaw
refers to law at a distance
 Research on the effectiveness of distance education
clearly shows that students who learn at distance do not
learn any worse, or any better, than traditional students.
Telemedicine is defined as medicine at a distance
Telemedicine was originally created as a way to treat
patients who were located in remote places, far away from
local health facilities or in areas of with shortages of
medical professionals.
While telemedicine is still used today to address these
problems, it’s increasingly becoming a tool for convenient
medical care.
Today’s connected patient wants to waste less time in
the waiting room at the doctor, and get immediate care for
minor but urgent conditions when they need it.
 Fundamental characteristics of distance education is the separation
of the students and their teachers.
 Educators are using technology to increase access of the distance
learner to the local classroom
 Distance education is a dramatic idea
 It is designed to be a successful and mainstream approach
 It is being used in telecommunications technologies in an exciting
emerging field

  • 8. Telemedicine is defined as medicine at a distance Telemedicine was originally created as a way to treat patients who were located in remote places, far away from local health facilities or in areas of with shortages of medical professionals. While telemedicine is still used today to address these problems, it’s increasingly becoming a tool for convenient medical care. Today’s connected patient wants to waste less time in the waiting room at the doctor, and get immediate care for minor but urgent conditions when they need it.
