1. ABILITY AND WILLINGNESS
1. Ability ( Kemampuan) umumnya menggunakan kata “CAN” artinya dapat.
Can digunakan untuk menyatakan kemampuan seseorang dalam melakukan sesuatu.
Adapun bentuk negative dari ‘can’ adalah cannot , penulisannya harus disambung tanpa spasi
Antara can dan not dapat disingkat menjadi “can’t”
Examples:
+ : she can speak several languages
+ : I can play the guitar
+ : He can swim like a fish
+ : They can dance very well
- : You can’t lift a big stone
- : He can’t speak Arabic
- : Anita can’t sing a keroncong song
? : Can you run fast ? Yes, I can
? : Can you play chess? No, I can’t
? : Can she cook soup? Yes, she can
2. Willingness ( kemauan/kesediaan) umumnya menngunakan kata “WILL” artinya mau/ bersedia.
Will digunakan untuk menyatakan kesediaan seseorang dalam melakukan sesuatu.
Bentuk negative dari will adalah will not dapat disingkat “won’t”
Examples:
+ : I will go to Supermarket.
+ : She will com to my house
+ : Mr. Arman will teach English in our class
- : They won’t play football in the school yard.
- : Tuti won’t drink ice tea
- : My parents won’t buy a motor-cycle for me
? : Will your brother go to school with me? Yes, he will
? : Will Andini play the piano? No, she won’t
? ? Will the teacher play badminton with you? No, he/she won’t

Rian : No, I can’t, but I can sing.

Harly : No, I can’t. I can only play the guitar.
