2. PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The project is a first of its kind training program .
Introduced innovative and more effective rice-wheat farming techniques and
technologies to smallholder farmers.
Five districts of Punjab under consideration for the location.
Training farmers in the areas of resource conservation, water saving, plant
population management, improved harvesting and best crop management
practices in the rice and wheat cropping system.
3. PROJECT AIMS
System Productivity Innovative Rice Training (SPIRiT) project aims to improve
agricultural productivity, efficiency and livelihoods for 10,000 farmers and
1,200 agri-farm support persons.
To disseminate latest farming techniques knowledge to small farmers.
Make farmers aware of the latest technology that is available for use on field.
Improve the quality of yields once these techniques are implemented.
Improve and quantity and per acre yield from land.
To improve overall living standards of farmers in those areas.
4. PROJECT LEARNINGS
Use of visual aids to bridge up the language barrier.
Use of videos and pictures to explain the farming processes.
A through, exhaustive plan needs to be established before initiating any such
plans in future.
