NARI conducted a SRI training program consisting of on station and farm trials with the farmers in the north bank region.The practicing farmers fields’ were photographed and taken to the television for other farmers to see.Later the farmers attended a farmer conference to share their results with their fellow farmers.Many farmers accepted that traditional spacing of leads plants to fight over space, food and area.
Areas under cultivation were managed by - Individuals and groups- Conduct seed multiplication programs in all districts
NARI and extensionlinkages( training of extension staff) conducted on station andon farm trails with the farmersand extension staff to improve agronomic practices
Perspectives: Implementing SRI willincrease the area under cultivation, the processing and the commercialization of the rice crop. Improved seed quality and agronomic practices will reduce hunger in the future
Way forward:-Increase farmer knowledge about the potential and use of SRI practices -Improve farmer processing skills
