I have a great wife and 3 lovely kidson top of that I have my own business and I keep inventing communities, so I have to balance my time with many family with time I don’t see them. Doing pair presentations with my son allows me to fuse work & life
when we go to conferences in other countries like Bulgaria, I can take a plane and that is not a thing that I normally do, on holidays or other moments in my life.
It’s not always easy to teach thing about life. By showing what my work life is about I also teach Joppe some life lessons. I choose this picture because for his 10 birthday I asked the ALE2012 audience to give Joppe some Life Lessons about being a teenager.
sometimes when I do a presentation I can skip part of a schoolday and that is also cool because school is not my favourite activity
Part of why I like PairCoaching talks, is that different presenters focus on different stuff. During the preparation for this talk, I was surprised that the first post-it’s I made where on the person stuff and Joppe wrote about professional things.
What is also good on a presentation with two, is that when you forget something, you have always someone with you to support you and that makes it easier to do a good presentation
Passion, I am a passionate person when I work or talk about my work. It’s a passion that my children hardly see. By working together Joppe now saw how much time I invest on details like selecting and sizing pictures. (or even rehearsing)
I’m now doing these presentation with my father for a longtime, but that does not mean I will step into my father shoes later…
When I do presentations at conferences, I leave my family behind and more important, my wife is the strong women keeping the family going. By doing this pair presentation with Joppe,
it’s easier for my wife when I leave her behind with 2 instead of 3 children.
For me it’s also funny that I’m usually (but not always) the youngest speaker because that makes me special.
As a child, I was curious what my parents did, they could not really explain., by doing something together Joppe understand and it’s way more fun then explaining what I do.
It’s also easier for me, to do a presentation at a conference then at school, because at school you get these boring points and the stress
The first presentation I practised with Joppe, did not work. At first I assumed it was his English. Big EGO mistake, the flow was wrong, by working together we figured out the right flow.
(because) when we do a presentation with 2 we can have a dialog,
and that is a nicer way for a presentation
Parents and teenagers, that stands for lots of discusions. In our case, I’m pretty ok with Joppe’s taste in music, yep my favorite music, he finds boring, instead of discussing what to play on spotify, we had something else to do…
I meet famous people like santa-claus, I mean Tom Gilb,
papa: but what’s the difference anyway… ;-) And I also met the most famous tennis player in Belgium Kim Clijsters.
The video’s of my presentations are always more viewed when Joppe joins me, actually conferences should be happy too, they are usually the most viewed presentation of the conference.
I ‘m faster bored alone when I sit in a cauch looking at TV then when
I’m with someone because it’s funnier to travel and speak with my father that
Going to conferences in other countries, means a lot of dead time trainrides, waiting for planes, planes. Time that we turn into we-time and work life fusion…
And last but not least,
evertime when we do a presentation we go to a sauna and a pool.
That is our favorite we-time
