2. making music videos
research to support production
in researching how to make a music video, i found this super helpful
article with a step-by-step guide, which has helped support the
structure of my plan for the music video i will be filming later on this
term..
3. • choosing the right song consider copyright costs, a song that is consistent
with the style you prefer, ‘start small’, filming takes a long time, for every minute
of the video it could take up to 2-10 hours to shoot with support from a major
label.
• casting the film crew and getting equipment consider who needs to be
there; 1-3 camera men, actor(s), director, artist
• planning the shoot wasted time costs money, storyboards for each shot, make
sure the team understand the expectations in terms of lighting, filming, etc.
• filming on the shot day stay focused and stick to the plan, get several good
takes for each scene
• using stock footage be aware of copyright laws, however you can spice up
your video by adding stock footage.

4. • capturing live footage filming the artist playing live is a way to get some
great footage for your music video. Filming the band at a gig will mean you'll
be able to capture the live energy and interaction with the audience.
• editing / finishing software the judicious use of effects can set your video
apart.
• being creative a strong dose of originality will allow your video to connect
with thousands of people, regardless of your budget. On the flip side, don’t
overdo it. A simple idea, well executed, is always more effective than a
complex idea, done poorly.
• key takeaways avoid using excessive special effects and think about adding
sound effects.

7. chosen genre of music video
i prefer the experimental style of music video as i find it most
interesting! performative music videos are usually heavily invested into
by the record label behind the track, which we do not have for this
project. i also feel that narrative music videos can easily turn cheesy if
the acting performance isn't seamless. however i do feel it's important
to incorporate somewhat of a storyline behind the music video, to keep
the viewer engaged and understanding. i will now analyse 3 music
videos which i feel inspired by and that fit the experimental yet narrative
style..
8. my ideas..
• i want to keep my music video light hearted on the surface, but with deeper
meaning when analysed.
• i will have 4-6 friends portrayed in the video, two of the friends secretly dating
but worried that the others will judge her
• fun, upbeat tempo of a storyline established, bright colours, fish eye lens,
experimental angles and different locations
• more intimate side of their relationship portrayed at home
• flirtatious mood hidden amongst a friendship group
• ends with the couple kissing infant of their friends
