3. secondary academic research
on music videos..
a music video is a short film that integrates a song with imagery, and is
produced for promotional or artistic purposes. Modern music videos
are primarily made and used as a marketing device intended to
promote the sale of music recordings.
4. last year..
lessons i learned
last year my focus was on making a short film, despite the big jump to a different
project and the world of music videos, i learned some valuable lessons which are
still applicable to this year. one being communication. i was soon to realise at the
short film shoot with the 3 boys last year that i had not made it clear enough what
i was aiming for, performance wise. in this project i will ensure to keep everybody
involved in the loop and on the same page. another lesson i learned the hard way
was the importance of tripods! or at least a steady hand. i was able to somewhat
compensate for the shakiness in the editing process later on, however the raw
footage was extremely hard to watch due to the instability
5. background research
although the origins of music videos
began with “musical short films” that first
appeared in the 1920s, they really came
into prominence in the 1980s when MTV
created their channel around the medium
and it changed how we received our
music. Instead of just listening we now
had a medium for “viewing” music.
Indeed, it revolutionised the music
industry. As with most things that change
our cultural landscape, the very first
musical artist that launched the music
video era has arguably been forgotten.
