K-C Internal Use Only
• Hometown: Evansville, IN
• School: Senior at Purdue University
• Graduating in December 2016
• Major: Electrical Engineering Technology
• 4th term with K-C
• Mentor: Mike Labhart
• Previous Terms
• 1st & 2nd terms at Berkeley Mills in
Hendersonville, NC
• 3rd term at Loudon, TN
K-C Internal Use Only
• Investigated DCS points using various tools such as
Integrity and point detailing
• Identified 55 definite bad DCS points that can be
deleted
• This doesn’t count the fifteen bad points that
are being repurposed (Cationic Promoter) and
bad points that are part of the TM2 TAD system
• Bad systems that were identified
• OBA Pumps (2102)
• Yellow Dye Pumps (6139)
• Black Dye Pumps (6140)
• RB Pumps (6142)
• Deflaker Discharge to Broke(1363)
• Resolver
• Cationic Promotor(being re-purposed for
DETAC)
K-C Internal Use Only
• Created a CBT on how to investigate potentially bad
DCS points
• The CBT can be used to teach technicians how to
navigate through the DCS
• Deleting unused or obsolete points frees up memory
for future installations and helps to prepare for the
controls upgrade in 2018
• Next Step: Technicians can be trained using the CBT
and the DCS will continue to be cleaned up.
K-C Internal Use Only
• Purpose is to prevent water from leaking through the
existing valve and into the pulper. This makes it more
difficult to control consistency
• Marked up electrical drawings for the installation
• Received quotes from Norman King and ESB for electrical
and mechanical install
• Norman King just needs to wire two inputs
• ESB needs to run air from the solenoid to the valve
• Determined the location of I/O for the ball valve
• Output (Solenoid) – D25, R2, S09
• Inputs (two proximity sensors located on the
valve) – D25, R2, S01
Next Step: The valve will be installed during the next
down on TM2

K-C Internal Use Only
• Originally, the goal was to fix the animation
problems with the Kentucky Wildcat graphic
meant to show when Broke was exceeding
expectations
• Once the animation problem was fixed, other
graphics were added to show when Broke was
meeting the target and when they were missing
the target.
• Additionally, the placement of three of the valve
and flow meter pairs was altered to more
accurately reflect where they are in the field.
Essentially, they were shown backwards in the
HMI screen originally

IN MEMORIAM
June 2016 – August 2016

K-C Internal Use Only
• The goal was to figure out how to set up the board
to display messages and display live values from
PLC42A
• Older versions of this board are installed on
converting machines HRT, MBFF, and MFT1
• Has never been used to communicate with a
Modicon PLC
• Currently have an active PLC connection over
Modbus/TCP
• Able to display messages in a particular order
• Next Step: Need to troubleshoot problems with
receiving correct live values from PLC42A
K-C Internal Use Only
• Goal was to figure out how to communicate with the Strapper
#1 SLC PLC and extract the .acd file in case the PLC failed.
• Determined that the 1747-PIC cables that were originally used
to program the SLC’s were obsolete
• PIC’s only work with operating systems older than
Windows XP SP2
• XP mode seems to be XP SP3
• After speaking with Rockwell Automation tech support, it was
determined that a new cable needed to be ordered.
• 1747-UICC13
• Driver can be configured in Windows 7 in RSLinx
STRAPPER #1
SLC 500
• Next Step: The new cable will be ordered and tested on arrival
K-C Internal Use Only
K-C Internal Use Only
• South Package Plant ECO document
• Assisted with troubleshooting problems with the level sensor above the CVA Pulper
K-C Internal Use Only
• Accepted full-time offer to work for K-C in Neenah starting
in January
• Research and Engineering
