NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
2. Jose Rizal
through his writings and reform
agenda supported the Enlightenment
Ideas and himself proposed an
intellectual revolution of which the
Filipino people must educate
themselves on the concept and
exercise of freedom
3. • Role- Jose Rizal’s ideas inspired
the Filipinos of his time to fight
and demand a stop to the abuses,
discrimination and inequalities
suffered by the Philippines under
Spanish Rule.
4. • Significance- Jose Rizal’s ideas are still
followed until today. His ideas on
individual liberty, social progress,
tolerance, scientific knowledge,
constitutional government, and
separation of church and state are
mentioned in the 1987 Philippine
Constitution and other laws applied in
Philippines society.
5. Isabelo de los Reyes
• introduced and actualized socialist
ideas as that of Karl Marx and others
by establishing the Philippine’s first
labor union and promoting labor
rights. He also contributed in the
study of native culture, beliefs, and
traditions.
6. • Role- By compiling riddles, proverbs, folklore
from Ilocos Zambales and Malabon, Isabelo de
los Reyes started one of the earliest studies on
Philippine anthropology (study of native
culture, traditions and beliefs). His
compilations served as one of the backbones
of Philippine anthropology. Moreover, his
social Ideas pointed the injustices, hypocrisies,
and the real motives of Spanish and American
Colonizers
7. • Significance- Isabelo de los Reyes’ Social Ideas
contributed to the spread and interest in
Philippine Anthropology. His compilations
served as an example to those who wish to
explore anthropology in the Philippines. Being
a patriot, his writings also included articles
against Spanish and American injustices gave
awareness to his fellow Filipinos during that
time.
8. Apolinario Mabini
Mabini’s political philosophy contributed
in the formation of being a Filipino citizen,
on goodness and capability of the human
nature to developed God-given talents.
Mabini combined the Enlightenment ideas
with the people’s religious orientation as
characteristic of the Filipino.
9. • Role- Apolinario Mabini is regarded as
the brains of the Philippine revolutionary
government. His social ideas and writings
about citizenship, governance,
constitution made him the legal
consultant of the Revolutionary
Government led by President Emilio
Aguinaldo.
10. • Significance- Apolinario Mabini’s social ideas
are still relevant until today. He emphasized
being a good citizen by treating your
countryman as more than a neighbour and
that the government must make decisions
based on reason. Moreover, our God-given
talents must be developed in order to be
successful in life.
11. Sikolohiyang Pilipino
• The Sikolohiyang Pilipino of Virgilio
Enriquez seeks to indigenized
psychology based on the experiences
and social realities of Filipinos. The
approach identified 12 values as part
of building national identity of the
Filipino.
12. • Role- Sikolohiyang Pilipino serves as
a specific field in Psychology that
focuses on the context and
experience of the Filipino people. By
using the lens of a Filipino,
psychologists can better understand
the mindset of the Filipino people.
13. • Significance- Sikolohiyang Pilipino is a primary
example on how effective indigenization or
contextualization is in studying the Filipino
mindset and society. It shows us that we can
understand more about Philippine society if
we view it through the lens of a Filipino.
14. Pantayong Pananaw
• Pantayong Pananaw of Zeus Salazar focuses
on how history is to be rewritten in the
perspective of Filipino language and interpret
cultural, societal realities and historical
narration intended for the Filipino people.
15. • Role- Pantayong Pananaw helped to spread
the movement of using the Filipino language
and perspective in writing our own history.
Since Philippine history is often written using
the perspective of foreigners and foreign
events, Pantayong pananaw serves as a new
lens in writing our history as Filipinos.
16. • Significance- Pantayong Pananaw
emphasized the idea that
Philippine History should be
written in the Filipino language to
make it more understandable and
relatable to the Filipino people.
