Sampling
1. It is a process used in statistical analysis in which a
predetermined number of observations are taken from a large
population
2. TYPES OF SAMPLING
PROBABILITY SAMPLING
Samples are gathered in a
process that gives all
individual have equal chance
to be selected
NON-PROBABILITY
SAMPLING
Samples are gathered in a
process that does not give all
individuals in population
equal chance of being selected
5. PURPOSIVE SAMPLING
Known as selective, judgmental, or subjective
sampling
It’s a probability sample that is selected based on
characteristics of a population and the objective of the
study
6. TYPES OF PURPOSIVE SAMPLING
Homogenous
Typical case sampling
Maximum variation
Extreme Deviant case sampling
Critical case sampling
Total population sampling
Expert sampling
7. MERITS
Uses best available knowledge concerning the sample
subjects
Gives better control of significant variables
Sample groups data can be easily matched
Homogeneity of subjects used in the sample
8. DEMERITS
The reliability of the criterion is questionable
Knowledge of population is essential
There may be errors in classifying sample subjects
Unable to utilise the inferential parametric statistics
Unable to make generalization concerning total
population
