2. Computer Hardware
The physical equipment & components which enable
computer software to run in the computer system is called
computer hardware.
Hardware is one that is tangible.
It is the collection of physical elements that constitute a
computer system.
Computer hardware refers to the physical parts or
components of a computer.
3. Computer Hardware includes
Keyboard
Mouse
Joysticks
MICR
OCR
OMR
Light Pen
These are the examples of Input device. It is device which
accepts instructions and data in a form understandable to
human beings, converts it into machine readable form and
transmit to the memory unit of the computer.
4. Keyboard
A type of input device operated by depressing alphanumeric keys.
A keyboard is a type writer style device which uses an arrangement of
buttons or keys, to act as mechanical levers or electronic switches.
A standard keyboard has 100 keys, each key sends different signals to the
CPU. Standard Keyboard Layout has 100 keys arranged in five groups
There are 6 different keys in Keyboard. They are –
1. Alphanumeric Keys 4. Function Keys
2. Modifier Keys 5. Cursor - Management Keys
3. Numeric Keypad 6. Special Purpose Key
5. Mouse
A mouse is an input device that one can move around on a flat surface
(usually on a desk or keyboard tray) and controls the pointer (also called a
mouse pointer)
How to use mouse:
Clicking
Double – Clicking
Dragging

A joystick is an input device consisting of a stick that pivots on
a base and reports its angle or direction to the device it is
controlling.
Joystick, also known as the control column.
Joysticks are often used to control video games, and usually
have one or more push – buttons whose state can also be read
by the computer.
A popular variation of the joystick used on modern video game
consoles is the analog stick.

mechanical or electronic conversion of scanned images of
handwritten, typewritten or printed text into machine –
encoded text.
OMR Software (Optical Mark Recognition) is the process of
capturing human – marked data from document forms such as
surveys and tests.
MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Reader) is a character
recognition technology used primarily by the banking industry
to facilitate the processing and clearance of cheques and other
documents.
8. Light Pen
A light pen is a computer input device in the form of a light –
sensitive wand used in conjunction with a computer’s CRT
(Cathode Ray Tube) display.
It allows the user to point to displayed objects or draw on the
screen in a similar way to a touch screen but with greater
positional accuracy.
