2. • Distributors have the jobof selling and marketing a media product
(film, game, music video) all of the way through its production up to
its release.
• This might include, posters, radioand TV adverts and merchandises,
as well as encorporating augmented reality.
• Normally, a large scale Hollywood production takesbetween 2 and 4
years to produce, from the intial idea to its DVD release.
• This means that alot of hard work and planning is needed on the
distributors part.
3. • The Distribution process is a long and often difficult process to
complete successfully, so the distributor must be chosen carefully, in
order to meet the film makers expectations.
• Normally, the most important stage of distribution is the stage just
before release, when the majority of adverts are being aired, to
encourage people to view the film at the cinema.
4. • A Film distributor must work with the film production company in
order to produce a set of release plans, detailing how the film will be
reeleased and how the audience will be targeted.
• This can include overcoming any competition form similar, rival films
that are being released at a similatr time.
• The most important part of the release plans is the type of cinema
release, which i will discuss on the next slide.
5. • Saturation Screening - The film is released at a large number of
cinemas across the country and many copies of the film are made, so
it can be planned on multiple screens at each cinema. This is usually
used by large Hollywood films.
• Specialised Screening - A film is released at only a few cinemas, but
thenis expanded to more cinemas across the cpuntry.
• Platform screening - The film only has one or two prints made and
may only be shown in one or two cinemas in the country (often in its
home town) - this would be the most apporpriate type for our film.
6. • Film4 is a distribution company, based in England, run by Channel 4.
• It was established in 1982, and has recently (2009) been affiliated
with the distribution of award winning film "Slumdog Millionaire".
• Unfortuantely, Film4's funding has recently been cut and it has
struggled to release as many films over the last year or so, although
we feel that this would not be a problem with the distribution of our
media product
7. • We find that film4 is a well known distribution company on a global
scale. by having such a easily recognisable image people can clearly
see that whatever is being shown is being represented by film4
themselves.
• We used film4 because it’s a low budget independent company,
however due to being accessible all time through free view channels,
it’s a very popular way of watching movies.
