Kia Ora, Talofa and Welcome to Week 9 Term 2—two weeks until the end of
the term.
Colds, flu and bugs have set in these last two weeks. Attendance has been down due to these
“winter” illnesses - and teachers are no exception. Keep warm, and keep the bugs at home - but
please ensure you let the school know so absence can be recorded as “justified”.
EDUCATION REVIEW OFFICE:
Last week the ERO team were at school. At this point in time all that is allowed to be reported is
that they were very happy with how things are operating. The process now is: ERO write a draft
report, which is peer reviewed, sent to the Board of Trustees in approximately one month. The
Board discuss and reply. A final report is then presented for public viewing. This process can
take up to three months.
READING TOGETHER: Help your child read at home without the hassles.
The final session for this term is happening tonight, at the Invercargill Library, 5:15pm. Look for-
ward to seeing those involved at the library. We are currently working on a pamphlet for the next
round - date and information will come out at the start of Term 3.
SCHOOL CARPARK:
For all our new families who don’t realise how the car park works. In the afternoon the first few
spots are a no parking zone - signs on the fence - this is to allow the two after school care vans to
pick up students safely. We have up to 10 students, at times, heading off in these vans.
Please also be reminded that YOU must come into the school to collect your child - please do not
just wait in your car and expect the child to come to you. Our carpark is a busy carpark at the
end of the day - for safety reasons we do not allow students to run out the gate unless they are
with an adult. Thank you for your cooperation.
SHARING LEARNING WITH YOUR CHILD(REN):
It has been really great to see the children bringing items of interest from home around the current
linked learning inquiry - space and the solar system. It has also been great to hear that children
are going home and having discussions around what they are discovering. This is great interac-
tion and I know from wondering around the school the children are really interested and engaged
in this current learning context.
TERM 3 EVENTS:
Kapa Haka - practices have commenced for Polyfest. The students, as part of Maori Language
Learning, have helped create a cloak that celebrates who they are. They have been painting
symbols that represent their culture and Mrs Ferris and I will sew the cloak up in the holidays.
The PTA have set aside money to help pay for Kapa Haka uniforms - and, as a school, we want
your thoughts on what the Kapa Haka uniform should look like. During Term 3 we will be seeking
your thoughts.
ILT Sing Out - Miss Harris and the Choir have started their practices for this event - so book the
performance date into your diary: Tuesday, 8 September, Venue: Civic Theatre - information on
ticket sales will come out next term.
Until the next newsletter,

Information for Parents and Caregivers - provided from the Ministry
Of Education information sheet.
This newsletter:
What is PB4L School-Wide?
PB4L School-Wide is an evidence-based framework that looks at
behaviour and learning from a whole-of-school as well as an individ-
ual child perspective. It takes the approach that opportunities for
learning and achievement increase if:
The school environment is positive and supportive.
Expectations are consistently clear.
Children and young people are consistently taught de-
sired behaviours.
Children and young people are consistently acknowledge
for desired behaviours.
Children and young people are consistently responded to
in a fair and equitable way.
PB4L School-Wide take three to five years to put in place, but
once the planning is done, you’ll start to see small changes in
the way things work that will have big impact.

Focus : Key Competency Relating to Others Value : Understanding: Meaning How we play and learn together using my WITS Kia Ora, Talofa and Welcome to Week 9 Term 2—two weeks until the end of the term. Colds, flu and bugs have set in these last two weeks. Attendance has been down due to these “winter” illnesses - and teachers are no exception. Keep warm, and keep the bugs at home - but please ensure you let the school know so absence can be recorded as “justified”. EDUCATION REVIEW OFFICE: Last week the ERO team were at school. At this point in time all that is allowed to be reported is that they were very happy with how things are operating. The process now is: ERO write a draft report, which is peer reviewed, sent to the Board of Trustees in approximately one month. The Board discuss and reply. A final report is then presented for public viewing. This process can take up to three months. READING TOGETHER: Help your child read at home without the hassles. The final session for this term is happening tonight, at the Invercargill Library, 5:15pm. Look for- ward to seeing those involved at the library. We are currently working on a pamphlet for the next round - date and information will come out at the start of Term 3. SCHOOL CARPARK: For all our new families who don’t realise how the car park works. In the afternoon the first few spots are a no parking zone - signs on the fence - this is to allow the two after school care vans to pick up students safely. We have up to 10 students, at times, heading off in these vans. Please also be reminded that YOU must come into the school to collect your child - please do not just wait in your car and expect the child to come to you. Our carpark is a busy carpark at the end of the day - for safety reasons we do not allow students to run out the gate unless they are with an adult. Thank you for your cooperation. SHARING LEARNING WITH YOUR CHILD(REN): It has been really great to see the children bringing items of interest from home around the current linked learning inquiry - space and the solar system. It has also been great to hear that children are going home and having discussions around what they are discovering. This is great interac- tion and I know from wondering around the school the children are really interested and engaged in this current learning context. TERM 3 EVENTS: Kapa Haka - practices have commenced for Polyfest. The students, as part of Maori Language Learning, have helped create a cloak that celebrates who they are. They have been painting symbols that represent their culture and Mrs Ferris and I will sew the cloak up in the holidays. The PTA have set aside money to help pay for Kapa Haka uniforms - and, as a school, we want your thoughts on what the Kapa Haka uniform should look like. During Term 3 we will be seeking your thoughts. ILT Sing Out - Miss Harris and the Choir have started their practices for this event - so book the performance date into your diary: Tuesday, 8 September, Venue: Civic Theatre - information on ticket sales will come out next term. Until the next newsletter, Kia Kaha Andrea and Staff TISBURY
