19 August – Teacher Only Day – all teachers attending a workshop on writing – remember no students to
be at school this day – or they will be here on their own.!
20 August – Round two of the Southland Speech Competition – we have two representatives taking part
– good luck to both of you.
22/23 August – Dance Workshops for students in the school’s library – this is to tie in with our integrat-
ed unit. Miss Searle has organized Jemma Robertson from Robertson School of Dance to work with our
students and share some dance steps.
CYBER SAFTEY: We have an opportunity to help our students, families and staff to understand the need
for being safe when using the internet. John Parsons will be working with our 8 to 11 year olds on Mon-
day 23, September 9:00 to 11:30am. There is also an opportunity for parents to attend a parent even-
ing on Wednesday, 18th September 7 – 9pm. Venue: Waverley Park School. This evening will help you
understand some of the ―safety issues‖ that your children and your family face when interacting on so-
cial media. Feedback is that John is fantastic, and that you will be very surprised at what he has to say.
This evening is one you don’t want to miss out on - pencil it into your diary today – see the flyer.
ATTENDANCE: Yesterday I attended a Ministry of Education workshop on the ―new integrated attendance
service‖. The service’s aim is ―for every student to attend and engage school every day, and on time‖.
The service will allow the MOE to monitor unjustified absences and lateness. Lateness is one of the are-
as that they are really wanting to address – as advised before 10 minutes every morning adds up to 50
minutes a week, students miss out on ―setting the scene‖ for the day, no basic fact or phonic practice,
and because they are late they disrupt the class who have already commenced their work finding out
what they are supposed to do. Lateness also becomes a habit which carries on in life . As a school we
want to help to ensure your child is on time and that we do not need to put reports through to the Minis-
try of Education. If you are having trouble at home getting your child out the door on time, please speak
to the classroom teacher or myself. As a staff we will be monitoring lateness – even five minutes – over
the remainder of the term, we will be looking for trends and patterns.
MOFFAT CUP – a BIG thank you to the parents who helped with this event – as with all events, without
parent support it is really difficult to run them. Miss Searle is including a note asking for parent support
for the Soccer Tournament, which Tisbury School is running for the Southern Zones Schools, in October –
please consider helping us out as the staff can’t be in all places, ie taking teams and running the event.
10 YEARS SERVICE - In our last survey many people commented on the fantastic friendly and helpful
service in the school’s office – well this is down to Mrs Mary Forsythe – who is one of the longest mem-
bers of staff reaching 10 years working at Tisbury School last Monday – well done and congratulations
on this great achievement.
STUDENTS WRITING – Watch out for your child’s writing – to help engage you with your child’s writing,
the staff will be sending students writing home, on a rotational basis – 5 per week. Staff are asking that
students share their writing with you – it may be in a draft or published format – and we ask that you
provide some feedback to your child. Included with their writing will be a feedback sheet with two state-
ments to help you provide feedback. In your child’s communication book is a sheet providing some ex-
amples of how you can complete the statements. If you have any questions about the writing, please
contact your child’s classroom teacher.
AROUND SCHOOL THIS FORTNIGHT:
DREAMWEAVER – all students enjoyed the storytelling by the Dreamweaver on Monday.
SCHOOL LEADERS ASSEMBLY— 2 Year 13 students from both Sthld Girls High and Sthld Boys High at-
tended our assembly last week and talked to our students about the importance of reading etc. This is
part of being involved with Duffy Books in Homes.
