Many thanks to everyone who provided either a donation or sponsorship – the total raised was over
$1800 – this will go towards more mini ipads for across the school.
Speech Competition end of Term 2: Well done to everyone who participated in either retelling a story in
the Juniors, to the formal speech presentations in the Senior end of the school. It is not always easy to
stand up in front of a crowd, even when you know them, and speak. The top speeches were: Gefforey
Periam Yr6; Connor Newell and Ben Burnett Yr5. Two of these boys will be progressing to the next
round of the Southland Yr 5/6 Speech Competition on 20 August.
Information Booklet: Today an updated information booklet is being sent home. Changes:
Board of Trustees names and roles.
Behaviour Management Outlines. As part of our reflective practices, the staff have had to intro-
duce quite clear and specific steps when behaviour is of a serious, or on-going, nature please
refer to pages 5/6/7/8 for the updates. These were introduced in term 2 and have now being
formally adopted.
Medical Form – if you require the school to administer any medicine then you must give the school
permission to do so through filling out the medical form. This does not include inhalers, how-
ever, if your child has asthma and needs help then you must fill in the asthma action plan –
again, we cannot provide assistance without your permission.
Curriculum Learning for this term is – Taking Flight as a School. The learning has as its foundation the
Social Science curriculum of Identity, Culture and Organisation. The aim is for students to identify the
―culture‖ of Tisbury school through linking to their home and wider community cultures.
Student Progress in relation to maths, reading and writing. At the July Board meeting the staff presented
the interim data for progress on where students are heading within the above three areas. It is good to
see that the majority of our students are on track in maths and reading. However, we really need to fo-
cus on writing.
To help our student’s progress, there are some fundamentals skills that we need to develop. The top
priority is ensuring that students are writing for a purpose, thereby developing a positive attitude towards
writing. To help develop this purpose and positive attitude, students have started sharing their writing at
assembly and having it displayed in the library on the Writers Wall and having their writing published in
the school’s newsletter. In addition to this, staff are wanting students to take their writing home to share
with their families/whanau. Staff are currently working on providing some helpful feedback formats for
parents/whanau to use in responding to their child’s writing. It is hoped that once a fortnight students
will take their writing home to share – this will start in week three. Through developing a positive atti-
tude, it is hoped, along with other developing writing skills, our student’s progress will grow.
CYBER SAFTEY: We have an opportunity to help our students, families and staff to understand the need
for being safe when using the internet. John Parsons will be working with our 8 to 11 year olds on Mon-
day 16, September 9:00 to 11:30am. There is also an opportunity for parents to attend a parent even-
ing on Wednesday, 18th September 7 – 9pm. Venue: Waverley Park School. This evening will help you
understand some of the ―safety issues‖ that your children and your family face when interacting on so-
cial media. Feedback is that John is fantastic, and that you will be very surprised at what he has to say.
This evening is one you don’t want to miss out on - pencil it into your diary today.
Have a great fortnight – I will see you all soon Kia Kaha Andrea and Staff

Text Messages: If you are
not receiving text messages
from the school office it
could be because of a tech-
nical fault through eTap
(Student Management Sys-
tem). If you have a telecom
number (027) but are with
another provider (Vodafone)
then there lies the problem.
Currently being worked on.
2. .Give your child a purpose to write:
Write:
- lists – things I need to buy; games to play when I’m bored; things to do in
the weekends (cut these up and make a lucky dip box to draw from).
-write out recipes or instructions for other people to follow – especially if
the instructions are for an adult.
-keep a diary – especially if your doing something fun or different. Use
photos and post on the classroom blog page.
-cut out letters from magazines and old newspapers to make into messag-
es.
-display their writing to be proud of their work.
PMP : Our Perceptual Motor Programme – running every afternoon for
Room 4 and 5. We would like to invite parents/whanau to be part of this
programme and help our Teachers Aides (Jayne and Tania) run it.
Venue: Tisbury School Hall.

Tuesday / Thursday = Room 4
Please contact either Mrs Maheno or Miss Butson if you are able to support

Spare Clothes: Because of
the time of year students
are getting dirty wet clothes
when they play outside so it
might be a good idea to pop
an extra set of clothes in
their school bags so they
have something dry to
