Kia Ora, Talofa and Welcome to Week 7 Term 2 - this leaves two weeks remaining for
this term.
Term holidays: School Finishes Friday, 4th July and Term 3 Commences, Monday, 21
July. The year just seems to be flying by.
Friday Wheels: I have had a couple of parents ask about this. I draw your attention to
the School’s Information Booklet (which is sent home with each new enrolment, and every
family received an up to date version at the beginning of the year) Page 7 - Friday
Wheels. Children are allowed to bring a scooter or skateboard to school only on a Fri-
day. They must have appropriate safety gear, ie helmet, knee or arm pads (for scooters).
The only children allowed to use the scooters are the children who own them. If you
have any questions please talk to your child’s classroom teacher.
Attendance and Lateness: As advised in the last newsletter, the school is having a real
focus on working with families who are continually arriving late or not advising the school
of a justified absence. Part of the School’s responsibility is keeping families aware of the
school times and attendance/lateness trends. The school is legally obliged to have 5
hours contact time (teaching time). For Tisbury School, to align with bus times, our start
time for learning is 8:45am. If a student is not in class ready for learning at 8:45, as
this is when the roll is taken, then they are deemed to be late. As from next week, a re-
port will be sent home advising you if your child has been late. The report shows quite
clearly the day(s) within the week. If there is a continued pattern, then these reports will
be forwarded to the Attendance Service for follow up. Staff appreciate that there are the
occasional times when things just don’t go right in the morning, (even I had that flat tyre
this week), however, it is the continually late trends that are of concern. If a child is late,
10 minutes every morning (ie 8:55), that equates to 50 minutes a week - this time can
cover, handwriting, basic fact practice, oral language components - all of which are im-
portant to your child’s overall learning outcomes. Please talk to your child’s teacher if you
have any questions.
Tisburys’ Got Talent: Last week saw each classroom share their finalists for selection to
the “Big Talent Show - Friday, 27th June”. What a great effort from all the acts that pre-
sented. It is not easy getting up in front of an audience (106 students plus 20 parents).
So well done for taking that “Risk”. The acts going through are listed on next page. We
wish them all the best for the big show.
Changes in the Junior Cloakbay: Over the past two weeks the Junior Cloak Bay has
been changed. Students in Oreti, Mataura and Awarua Rooms now hang their bags out
the front of their classrooms. Access to their classrooms are from the front of the school.
Students still have access to the toilets through the internal and external doors. Students
will be able to go into their classroom if the weather is “terrible” before 8:30am. The
teachers of the above rooms, ask that parents wait for their children at the blue seats
where their bags are now hanging. The cloak bay is going to be used as a teaching
space for small groups or one on one work. The reason behind this change is that the
school is very tight for space and the teachers aides are often looking for spaces to work.
We will see how this goes. The senior cloak bay remains as is.
Have a great weekend. The last newsletter for this term will be Thursday, 3 July.
