Kia Ora, Talofa and Hi to the last newsletter of Term 1 - and where has this term gone?
I would like to say a very big thank you to all the parents who have helped us at Splash Palace
over the past three weeks, especially in the changing rooms where we appreciate the fathers
who have been able to help in the boys area. We would especially like to thank Victoria Howden
for helping Joy Maheno in the pool with the swimming groups. Swimming has gone well with the
extra three sessions, this will mean that we will not be swimming in term 4.
School Houses - This week will see the introduction of Tisbury School Houses. This is where
students will be split into four family grouped school houses. In establishing family grouped
houses, the staff are promoting that “family” feel where strong relationships between the Juniors
and Seniors can develop. Two staff members will be responsible for each house along with Stu-
dent House Leaders - one year 6 and one year 5.
Houses can earn points throughout the year for class and playground behaviour. At the end of
each week these points will be added up and noted under a house shield. Points will also be
gained through school events, ie sports : athletics, cross country.
Students will be asked to help name their house - maybe you have some suggestions. Staff are
thinking along the lines of names that are relevant to the Tisbury District. More information
next term on how the houses are going.
Easter Raffle - thank you very much for all the contributions - we are going to have some great
prizes which will be drawn next Wednesday afternoon. Please remember to have all your raffle
tickets and hamper donations in by tomorrow.
ANZAC Service - during these last next two weeks, the students will be touching on the meaning
of ANZAC Day and the importance of remembering a piece of our history. As part of this, the
school will be having a very small ANZAC Service, where they will raise the NZ flag, place a
wreath, have a minute silence and sing a song This is to be held on Wednesday 16 April at
2:15pm. All parents and families are invited, it will be no more than 15 minutes. At the conclu-
sion the Easter Raffles will be drawn.
Term 2: Watch out for:
- The Arts - dance, drama, and music - are the major focus for our linked learning this term.
All students will be asked to enter a school based talent show, from here entries will be
chosen for the big “Tisbury’s Got Talent Show” - watch out for the details next term.
- The Tisbury School’s Cross Country - where students will be encouraged to dress up in
their house colours and gain points for their house through participating. Date to be
decided.
- Young Leaders Conference - Dunedin - 19 May - four year 6 students are attending.
- Life Education Truck - 29/30 May - Reinforcement of our Health Curriculum. Come along
and meet Harold and Teresa, the Classroom Teacher. For parents or families who have
never been or seen inside the Life Education Truck, Teresa would like to meet you on
Thursday, 29th May at 2:45pm. She and Harold love answering your questions and
sharing their truck.
- Student/Parent/Teacher Conferences - 3 / 4 June with Room 1’s 3rd and 5th June. On the
3rd and 4th students will go home at 12:00pm to allow for these conferences to happen. A
booking time sheet will come home early term 2 - please note these dates in your diary.
The school bus will run at 12:00 on both of these days.
- Southern Zone Cross Country - 6 June - more information about this next term.
- Southland Primary School’s Cross Country - 13th June.
- Tisbury’s Got Talent Show - Friday 27th June.
All in all another busy, but fun term ahead.
Take care, Kia Kaha Andrea and the Staff
