3. Sanitizing and Sterilizing is different from each other.
Sanitizing means you're killing some micro-organisms, but not all of them.
While sterilizing means you're killling all of the micro-organisms. In this sense,
the process of sterilization is better than the former. In doing these processes,
several cleaning materials are needed such as disinfectant and antiseptic.
Disinfectant is much stronger than antiseptic and is used mostly
on non-living surfaces while antiseptic is often applied on
skin surfaces (Adriano & Guardian, n.d.).
4. Preparing the Equipments for Sanitation
a. Read the directions on the label of the disinfectant.
b. Mix and measure the disinfectant based on the right ratio as what the label says.
c. Apply some disinfectant on a cleaning cloth and the wife the surface of the equipment.
d. Dry the equipment by wiping its surface using a paper towel.
e. All the solutions and used towels must be disposed properly.
Preparing the Metal Implements for Sterilization
a. To remove any debris and residue, soak the implements on a hot soapy water solution.
b. Rinse thoroughly.
c. Make a 70% to 90% alcohol solution and place the implements in it for 20 minutes.
d. After 20 minutes, remove them from the alcohol solution and dry them by wiping and
putting them in a dry sterilizer.
5. Preparing the Sanitizing Jar
a. Clean the jar using disinfectant and dry it by wiping.
b. Put a thin layer of sterile cotton at the bottom of the jar.
c. Take the implements from the dry sanitizer and put them in the jar.
d. Fill jar with 70% to 90% alcohol solution to cover cutting edges and
tips of orangewood sticks.
