Safety precautions in the clinic and laboratory.pptxMustafa Al-Ali
Safety precautions in the clinic and laboratory.
Mustafa al-ali, 48
Safety precautions in the clinic and laboratory
Safety precautions in the dental clinic and laboratory are crucial to protect both patients and dental healthcare professionals. Here are some key safety measures to consider:
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Hand Hygiene
Sterilization and Disinfection
Waste Management
Radiation Safety
Emergency Preparedness
Chemical Safety
Ergonomics
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Personal protective equipment (PPE) should be selected based on risk assessment and tasks to be performed.
These items are designed to provide a protective barrier during dental procedures and through the sterilization process. PPE must also be considered for patients as they enter the facility and provided to administrative staff who may be screening them upon arrival.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Gown
Dental Hygiene Care Professionals (DHCP) should wear protective clothing (eg, gowns, jackets) to prevent contamination of scrubs and to protect the skin from exposure to blood and bodily fluids.
Sleeves should be long enough to protect the forearms.
Protective clothing should be changed after use or when it becomes visibly soiled by blood or other bodily fluids.
DHCP should remove protective clothing before leaving the work area.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Eyewear/Face Shields
Protective Eyewear
DHCP should wear protective eyewear with solid side shields or a face shield during procedures likely to generate splashes or sprays of blood or bodily fluids or the spatter of debris. Reusable protective eyewear should be cleaned with soap and water, and when visibly soiled, disinfected between patients.
Personal eyeglasses are not considered PPE.
Protective eyewear should be provided to patients.
Face Shields
Face shields provide full-face coverage.
Must be worn with a face mask.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Gloves
DHCP should wear gloves to prevent contamination of their hands when touching mucous membranes, blood, saliva, or other potentially infectious materials and to reduce the likelihood that microorganisms on their hands will be transmitted to patients during patient care.
Gloves should be used for one patient only and discarded appropriately after use.
Hand hygiene should be performed prior to donning gloves and immediately after glove removal.
Hand Hygiene
Hand hygiene is extremely important to prevent the spread of the SARS CoV-2 virus. It also interrupts the transmission of other viruses and bacteria, thus reducing the overall burden of disease, Dental healthcare facilities should ensure that hand hygiene supplies are readily available in every patient care location.
Pre-washing considerations
Remove jewelry, ring, watches, or bracelets
Remove artificial nails if present.
Cover skin cuts, abrasions, breaks or cracks with waterproof adhesive dressings.
Use running water; avoid dipping or washing hands in a basin of standing water

Att ha kunder som pratar med varandra kommer att innebära att en hushållsrengörare med större sannolikhet kommer att ge ett bra jobb varje gång också, eftersom de vet att en dålig renhet för en klient kan få återverkningar med den andra! Sterilization and disinfection in prosthodonticsNishu Priya
Routinely dental care professionals are at an increased risk of crossinfection while treating patients. This occupational potential for disease transmission becomes evident initially when one realizes that most human microbial pathogens have been isolated from oral secretions. Because of repeated exposure to the microorganisms present in blood and saliva, the incidence of certain infectious diseases has been significantly higher among dental professionals than observed for the general population.

5th edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
(DSM-5) integrates alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence into a single
disorder called alcohol use disorder (AUD), with mild, moderate,
and severe subclassifications (American Psychiatric Association, 2013).
In the DSM-5, all types of substance abuse and dependence have been
combined into a single substance use disorder (SUD) on a continuum
from mild to severe. A diagnosis of AUD requires that at least two of
the 11 DSM-5 behaviors be present within a 12-month period (mild
AUD: 2–3 criteria; moderate AUD: 4–5 criteria; severe AUD: 6–11 criteria).
The four main behavioral effects of AUD are impaired control over
drinking, negative social consequences, risky use, and altered physiological
effects (tolerance, withdrawal). This chapter presents an overview
of the prevalence and harmful consequences of AUD in the U.S.,
the systemic nature of the disease, neurocircuitry and stages of AUD,
comorbidities, fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, genetic risk factors, and

We'll look at how he maintains his well-being. the health issues he has faced, and his approach to ageing .
Early Life and Career
Childhood and Athletic Beginnings
Tom Selleck was born on January 29, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan, and grew up in Sherman Oaks, California. From an early age, he was involved in sports, particularly basketball. which played a significant role in his physical development. His athletic pursuits continued into college. where he attended the University of Southern California (USC) on a basketball scholarship. This early involvement in sports laid a strong foundation for his physical health and disciplined lifestyle.
Transition to Acting
Selleck's transition from an athlete to an actor came with its physical demands. His first significant role in "Magnum P.I." required him to perform various stunts and maintain a fit appearance. This role, which he played from 1980 to 1988. necessitated a rigorous fitness routine to meet the show's demands. setting the stage for his long-term commitment to health and wellness.

RESULTS: Overall life span (LS) was 2252.1±1742.5 days and cumulative 5-year survival (5YS) reached 73.2%, 10 years – 64.8%, 20 years – 42.5%. 513 LCP lived more than 5 years (LS=3124.6±1525.6 days), 148 LCP – more than 10 years (LS=5054.4±1504.1 days).199 LCP died because of LC (LS=562.7±374.5 days). 5YS of LCP after bi/lobectomies was significantly superior in comparison with LCP after pneumonectomies (78.1% vs.63.7%, P=0.00001 by log-rank test). AT significantly improved 5YS (66.3% vs. 34.8%) (P=0.00000 by log-rank test) only for LCP with N1-2. Cox modeling displayed that 5YS of LCP significantly depended on: phase transition (PT) early-invasive LC in terms of synergetics, PT N0—N12, cell ratio factors (ratio between cancer cells- CC and blood cells subpopulations), G1-3, histology, glucose, AT, blood cell circuit, prothrombin index, heparin tolerance, recalcification time (P=0.000-0.038). Neural networks, genetic algorithm selection and bootstrap simulation revealed relationships between 5YS and PT early-invasive LC (rank=1), PT N0—N12 (rank=2), thrombocytes/CC (3), erythrocytes/CC (4), eosinophils/CC (5), healthy cells/CC (6), lymphocytes/CC (7), segmented neutrophils/CC (8), stick neutrophils/CC (9), monocytes/CC (10); leucocytes/CC (11). Correct prediction of 5YS was 100% by neural networks computing (area under ROC curve=1.0; error=0.0).
CONCLUSIONS: 5YS of LCP after radical procedures significantly depended on: 1) PT early-invasive cancer; 2) PT N0--N12; 3) cell ratio factors; 4) blood cell circuit; 5) biochemical factors; 6) hemostasis system; 7) AT; 8) LC characteristics; 9) LC cell dynamics; 10) surgery type: lobectomy/pneumonectomy; 11) anthropometric data. Optimal diagnosis and treatment strategies for LC are: 1) screening and early detection of LC; 2) availability of experienced thoracic surgeons because of complexity of radical procedures; 3) aggressive en block surgery and adequate lymph node dissection for completeness; 4) precise prediction; 5) adjuvant chemoimmunoradiotherapy for LCP with unfavorable prognosis.

Disinfection and Sanitization Tips Against COVID-19:
Apart from maintaining hygiene and following the prevention tips given above, one
can also carry out the process of disinfection and sanitization to reduce the chances
of contracting the COVID-19 virus. Here are a few tips:
1. For CLINICS and HOSPITALS, one should consider decontaminating
entrance lobbies, escalators, elevators, corridors and staircases, security
guard booths, etc… Mop these surfaces using 1% sodium hypochlorite or
phenolic disinfectants for this purpose.
2. Metallic surfaces should be cleaned with 70% alcoholic solutions. These
surfaces may include security locks, keys, machines, etc…
3. Areas that are touched frequently should be cleaned at least twice a day.
These areas may include elevator call buttons, intercom systems,
tabletops, chair handles, dispensing machines, handrails/handles, etc…
Dip a cloth in 1% sodium hypochlorite and wipe the area.
Additionally, consider installing a sanitizing station for visitors. It is advised that
surroundings should be disinfected as frequently as possible. Proper protection
should be used while handling chemicals and while disinfecting the surroundings.

With invasive procedures, there's contact between a patient's mucous membranes or sterile
tissue and a surgical instrument or medical device. A significant risk of these types of
procedures is introducing pathogenic microbes, potentially resulting in infection. When you
don't properly disinfect or sterilize medical equipment, it increases the risk of infection due to
the breach of host barriers.
Some benefits of sterilizing medical equipment include:
1. It eliminates pus, blood, foreign particles and dirt left behind that could lead to
dangerous complications for the next patient requiring surgery where the medical
practitioner uses the instrument.
2. It decreases bioburden -- the number of non-sterilized bacteria living on a surface.
3. It prevents the corrosion of expensive and highly precise tools that have delicate
pivots and hinges.
4. It removes the breeding ground for the surviving germs.
5. It ensures the safe transport of equipment needing to be packed and assembled for
sterilization or disinfection.
Sterilization and disinfection, when properly used, can ensure the safe use of non-invasive and
invasive medical devices.
How to Sterilize Medical Equipment
1. Cleaning: Cleaning must always come before high-level sterilization or disinfection.
2. Disinfecting: This is the second step and can involve using liquid chemicals are used
to kill non-spore forming bacteria.
3. Sterilizing: You can employ several methods of sterilization to kill disease-causing
microorganisms and eradicate transmissible agents, like bacteria and spores.
The level of sterilization or disinfection is dependent on how you intend to use the objects.
Whether equipment requires high-level sterilization, low-level disinfection or high-level
disinfection depends on where it falls in these three categories:
1. Critical objects: An example includes surgical instruments that come in contact with
sterile tissue.

2. Semicritical objects: An example includes endoscopes that come in contact with
mucous membranes.
3. Noncritical objects: An example includes stethoscopes that come in contact with only
intact skin.
You must consider the benefits and disadvantages of specific techniques when choosing a
sterilization or disinfection process. When you adhere to these recommendations, you should
improve sterilization and disinfection practices in hospitals and other healthcare facilities,
thereby decreasing infections linked with contaminated patient-care objects.
