1. Vice Presidents’ Student Advisory Board (VPSAB)
Reports to Vice President of Student Affairs, Howard Spearman, and the Provost,
Turina Bakken.
VPSAB is a forum for students to discuss issues and to share feedback and advice on
aspects of their experience at Madison College.
The student members of this board will be asked to recommend, encourage and
evaluate programs, and policies that support student learning and student social
environments, as well as advise the Provost and Vice President of Student Affairs on
organization and priorities of programs.
The students on the board also will engage in training and participate, when necessary,
on Conduct Review Board and Academic Appeals Board hearings. It is our intent that
the members of this board be individuals that reflect the diversity of our student body.

SUBJECT: Request for focus items on student success
Every year, the college reevaluates its approach to student success. To do so, we need to
understand what issues students face that stand between them and successful completion of
coursework and degrees. In the past, we have studied issues such as mental health,
transportation, food security, childcare, advising, and support for veterans. We are sure that
every year, these issues persist and new ones arise.
The college would like to better understand these issues and their causes, effects, and possible
solutions. We are asking you for some direction from a student-centered perspective.
The administration thinks that your group’s perspective will be beneficial in deciding the next
steps. Please research the topic broadly, possibly including current Madison College policies
and services and policies at other institutions. Gather feedback from a variety of students. Do
your best to represent a wide variety of perspectives in developing your ideas.
We request your report in writing by December 18, 2019.
