1. Introduction to Literature
Unit 4: Make a Creative Argument Inspired by Satire and Irony
Task 1: Choose a topic you would like to write a creative (ironic?
satirical?) argument about.
Add information about your selection to the wiki. This will allow the
instructor to approve your selection and assist you in brainstorming.
Also, your classmates will get to see the variety of topics as they
brainstorm for ideas, too.
Task 2: Draft an essay using tools of irony and satire to make an argument about your topic.
If you’d like, you can take inspiration from one of our mentor texts and modify its structure or
approach to become your own.
Task 3: Present and lead a discussion about your draft and how to improve it. Your
presentation and discussion, which should last around 10 minutes, should include a spirited,
expressive reading of a full draft of your piece.
The goal of this presentation is to test and continue to develop the approach, development, and
language of your project. You should bring a draft to read during your presentation and
demonstrate that you prepared to lead this portion of the class with your group.
Task 4: Revise your argument to a polished final product of at least 500 words. As you revise,
watch out for these pitfalls:
Please follow MLA guidelines to format the appearance of the
paper.
No sources are required, but if you use a source, cite it
informally in the text.
Proofread carefully.
