3. Research
The strengths of my research is that I was able to find existing product
which have a similar story line and genre to my product, this helped me to
come up with ideas for my advertisement as I was able to see what colour
schemes, fonts, and image placements they used which helped me to
understand how to make my advertisement fit with my trailer and genre as
they will all use dark colours and big fonts with multiple images and the
main character being in the centre. This would help me to get the design
right to match everything else and also help me to make it look professional
as there were many different was that I could advertise it to math. My
weaknesses with research was my audience research. With the survey I
created to help me with my project to tell me what people do and don’t
like with the genre I went for, half of my audience of people who took the
survey didn’t give helpful answers, so I was left with 2-3 people who
actually helped me to understand what not to add into my trailer. I also
struggled to find audience research off of the internet that was based
around the genre and theme I was using for my trailer. To improve on this I
could have asked more people to take my survey to get better and more
reliable answers to help me when it came to working on my final product.
This would help me to know what to put into my trailer which would get
more people to like it and watch it.
4. Planning
The strengths of my planning is that when I was making my storyboard I
had a clear idea of my shots, locations, props and camera angles that I
wanted to use for my trailer, I also had strengths when creating my shot
list and identifying which shots are more sufficient and important
compared to others. This helped me because it gave me a clear plan and
helped me to decide where my locations of filming would be, it also gave
me a chance to look back at it when filming to remind and guide me of
what else I need to film and also what audio I needed to collect while I
was gaining footage. My weaknesses of planning was my Pre-Production
assessment. This was one of my weaknesses as I struggled to think of all of
the locations that I would be filming in, the props I would need, and the
risks that could happen when I am filming my trailer. I could have planned
ahead to make sure I had a clearer idea of where I wanted my locations
and what I would like to use as props. This would have helped me as it
would give me more to write about and also write in detail of why I chose
them locations and why I need certain props for my trailer.
5. Time Management
I managed my time well with each aspect of my FMP. I completed my
project on time, I would've liked to have more time as my trailer
didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to, I would have liked it to be
longer and have better effects, I also would have liked to film more
footage for it as I didn’t like certain shots, I used for my trailer I
would have liked more people to help and use as cast, but I was
unable to get anybody else to help. I would also been able to add
more effects to make my work look more professional. If I did have
more time, I would have filmed more footage, recorded more audio,
used better props. I would have spent more time editing to make my
work look the best it possibly could, which I did manage to do with
the amount of time I had but it could look better with more time.
6. Technical Qualities
A similarity with these images is the use
of props and editing images onto the
objects. The props used are dangerous to
show that the trailers are both horror
films or thriller films
The text on both images give off a chilling
feeling showing that neither of the films
are happy and relaxing but instead
suspenseful and dark.
Both images use the colour red to represent
blood and torture which also show that it will
be based as a dark film and a horror/thriller
genre.
The facial expressions shown in the images
clearly show who the main characters are
and if they are in fact scared or evil and
shows who the bad person is and the person
who is trying to stay alive.
7. Aesthetic
Qualities
I think my work looks good with the
time I had to produce it. With the
techniques I used when editing I
believe I have a wide variety of
creative traits throughout the trailer. I
would improve the look of some shots
that I created when editing by adding
more techniques and transitions
throughout the trailer to make it look
its best. The strengths I had was some
of the transitions I used like overlaying
shots and changing the speed on each
one to make them over-lap each other,
some weaknesses I had was with the
brightness on certain shots compared
to others as they were filmed at
different locations at different times
so the colour and the lighting was
different for each piece of footage
that I recorded.
8. Audience Appeal
With the survey that I created
and the responses I got back
from it, I didn’t use many
jump scares throughout the
trailer but instead I made it
suspenseful with the footage
that I filmed and edited.
Specific parts of my trailer
that may appeal to my
audience would be the
techniques I used such as
overlaying on both my
advertisement images and
trailer as it shows a range of
skill for both.
10. Feedback 1
What did you like about the
product?
It was thrilling and suspenseful, I
enjoyed the shots that were used.
What improvements could have
been made to the product?
The trailer could have been longer
with other shots. Also adding
more audio would have helped
Aswell.
11. Feedback 2
What did you like about the
product?
The text carries the trailer
throughout and helps the
audience to understand what
is happening.
What improvements could have
been made to the product?
Footage could have been shot
in other places instead of the
same place. Also using a wider
range of camera angles.
12. Feedback 3
What did you like about the product?
I enjoyed the techniques that
were used at some point in the
trailer.
What improvements could have been
made to the product?
Could have used more people
to help and a wider cast to film
so that you didn’t have to
record yourself.
13. Peer Feedback Summary
What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
I agree that I could have filmed in various other
locations and used a wide cast to help me film
what I needed for my trailer.
What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
I disagree that I could have used a wider range of
camera angles as I did use a variety of them
throughout my trailer and advertisement.
14. Peer Feedback Summary
What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
I also agree that my trailer could have been
longer and also using longer pieces of footage
throughout.
What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
I disagree that I could have added more audio to
my trailer, if it was longer then I would have
added more but with the length that it was I
think that I used enough audio throughout.
