Historically, a Postage stamp began as a piece of paper,
a receipt denoting a specific value, which was a token
of prepayment for postal service equivalent to its face
value.
Postage stamps perform multifarious roles of being
the paper ambassadors representing their country of
origin, to being brand images of their postal
administrations, promoters of the image of a nation ,
and , as collectables.

The three stamps comprising this series carry the theme of celebration of the touching the
nutritional, educational, recreational aspects of the CHILD WELFARE MOVEMENT. First of the
stamp was depicting a boy eating a Banana, the second stamp depicting a young girl writing on
a slate and the third one is toy horse.

The price of the stamp was 8 Paisa.
The stamp was created from a candid photograph
of an 8-year boy Shekhar Borker. The photograph
was selected from 10000 entries. Shekhar became
famous as 'Banana Boy' after the stamp was issued.
Until 1966, the Children's Day stamps were
created using a photograph.

5. Varanasi City: A Commemorative

The famous bathing and burning Ghats of Varanasi. Since the ancient times, Kashi or Varanasi
is considered to be the holiest of cities for Hindus who come to bathe in the sacred Ganga
River.
As a result, almost the entire city’s over 5 km of river banks have been converted into “Ghats”

The First Day Cover (FDC) on the bottom is inscribed
“Varanasi Shahar” (in Hindi) and “Varanasi City” (in
English) and shows the City of Varanasi as it has
grown along the Banks of the River Ganges or Ganga.

The city has not only maintained the religious and
cultural importance it has had since antiquity, but
vibrates with an underlying spiritual energy which

Earlier a postage stamp on Ghats of Varanasi was
released on 3rd October 1983.
