My Nepal Festival
Splash. One second I could feel my body touching the surface of the water and the next second I
was completely immersed in it. I went so deep I could feel the water pressure. Was I going to die?
I moved my hands and feet vigorously as if a shark was chasing me. I wanted to get out, breathe a
gulp of air and feel the air. I wanted to cry. With my eyes still closed and my heart beating rapidly
all I did was shout, "help me, help me" but no one came. I was sure there were around 5 people
out there who were supposed to save us. And even though I was there, shouting for help with all
my might, no one approached me. I slowly opened my eyes and tada, there I was floating in the
river (uI forgot I had air jacket on for safety) shouting for help and stamping my hand in the water.
They must have thought I was crazy. Well, it was a beautiful, sunny morning. We were all having
breakfast. As usual I was having toast with yak butter and sugar and I was talking with my Indian
friend who came to visit us on her holiday. We were comparing the food, culture and language of
Nepal and India. Even though most of the expressions, food, festivals, of both the countries are

The music of India is a mosaic of different genres and levels of sophistication. At one extreme,
classical music is performed in the urban concert halls for purely artistic reasons, and at the other,
many kinds of functional rural music accompany life–cycle and agricultural rites. In between are

The origins of classical music can be traced to the Natya Shastra, a Sanskrit treatise on drama, which

My Favourite Festivals In My Family
My family along with other Nepalese celebrate innumerable big festivals where food is one of the
main rituals. Dashain, Tihar, Holi are some of the big festivals in Nepal and during Tihar (my
favorite festivals among all), my family makes special meals like Chini roti (made of soaked rice,
sugar, ghee), Nepali authentic meal (dal, bhat, masu) , sel roti (made of soaked rice, sugar, ghee,
soda, milk, cashews) and other several foods. These festivals are like Christmas and
Thanksgiving for us. The festivals and food have direct associations and are very significant to
make the occasion more delightful. Every member of the family tries to gather during this occasion
to celebrate. During this big event, we are unlimited just to foods, but we can see small kids
playing with firecrackers and kites, whereas old playing cards and drinking games. Unfortunately, I
was unable to be with my family for the 3rd time this year.
Most of the special foods that my family prepare during the occasions are made of rice flour,
wheat flour, coconuts, cashews, and milk. We even make our homemade sweet from milk.
Nowadays, whenever I visit an Indian store, I look for these sweets so that I can buy them. If I
have the option to choose any dishes, I will definitely choose sweets made from milk. I even tried

My excitement was almost palpable as I drove past Lake Okeechobee, watching sunlight bounce
reflectively off the massive body of water. My 6 best friends and I were moments away from
entering into the majestic festival land. Entering the festival grounds, we where bursting with
excitement and energy, partly because we were sitting still in a cramped car for 2 hours. The car
was moving only several inches per minute, but as the car took covered more territory, so did my
eagerness. There were only a couple of feet distancing our car from the next; everyone else was as
enthusiastic as I. I saw smiles and excitement and heard electronic music in the background, all
while sitting and waiting in a vehicle. It can to my realization that this was the first time I was
surrounded by a whole spectrum of unique people. Some attendees looked like they had just stepped

beat of the music and we all suffered from the humid, swampy, hot weather.
