Remote Working 'An Important Priority'
The desire of workers to become increasingly mobile is something that
cannot be ignored, experts have been stating.
One reason for this is that it does more than just provide flexibility in the

2. Researchers from the University of Melbourne studied the activities of
28 workers – 25 hybrid teleworkers and three non-teleworkers –
employed by six organisations in the Australian city. It found that
employers who provided the IT means to enable people to work
"seamlessly" gained from the greater wellbeing of their staff.
Lecturer in knowledge management at the university Dr Rachel Bosua
said: "Wellbeing has a positive influence on an individual’s drive and
approach to work which contributes to individual productivity."

3. The capacity to work remotely enables workers to be more productive
despite the apparent temptations to do less while out of the office and
beyond the scrutiny of managers. It noted there is an importance for
people to be self-motivated, but also pinpointed various productivity
benefits. One respondent explained: "Without question I am more
productive when I telework. There is no need to commute to the office
every day, so on telework days I actually get more work done."
Ms Bosua concluded that "99 per cent" of staff do not want to work
away from the office all the time, but noted many value being able to do
so for a couple of days each week.

4. The research stated that Australia is in fact one of the countries at the
lower end of the scale when it comes to remote working. The report
said only 17 per cent of the workforce would be operating this way by
2016, compared with 43 per cent in the US.
This increasing desire of workers to be able to flexible and divide their
time between the office, home and other locations is a growing
phenomenon, Tech Radar has noted.

5. It quoted Canon's European document scanning solutions director
Sean Suematsu as saying the company's Office Insights Report has
shown this pattern.
