3. Reasons to do a romance
film opening:
•
•
•
•
•
It’s my favourite genre.
It connects with the audience on a personal level.
It can tag on the audience’s heartstrings
Romance and love is a big part of everyday life.
There’s different ways in which love and romance can be
portrayed –
unconditional, family, friends, hobbies, partners etc.
• Romance storylines are usually very detailed and have a
sense of realism.
• Target audience would be mainly females which would
make it easier to connect to them.
• It’s different to people’s choices.
4. Idea 1

Girl of a young age feels out of place and doesn’t fit in with society. She doesn’t have
many friends because she’s seen as different.
She has a guy best friend whose been there with her from the start. He’s always fancied
her but hasn’t had to courage to tell her.
They do everything together – shopping, eating out, watching movies, go to prom
together etc.
Boy tries to tell girl that he likes her at prom. Girl doesn’t think she feels the same. Boy
storms off and leaves in his car. Gets into accident and get badly injured.
Girl gets a phonecall and discovers the boy lying in hospital. She’s upset and wishes she
would’ve told him the same. He later dies in hospital and she is left lifeless.
She begins to hurt herself because she thinks it’s her fault for his death. She becomes in
a bad state.
A new guy moves in next door to the girl and starts talking to her and finding more
about her.
They hang out and he sees her scars. He asks what happened and she explains. He then
tries to help her out and support her as much as he can. They fall for each other and
eventually settle down. She still visits her best friend’s grave every week to make sure
he’s okay.
5. Idea 2
• The story of how a woman fell in love with her husband and
the tragedy she faced.
• Old woman reminiscing the memories that the two had
together.
• Flashbacks of these memories.
• Insight into the woman’s life when she was young.
• The struggles they face during the war and being deployed
from the children and family.
• Some use of getting the memories to be brought up with the
storyline – i.e. messages that he sent her.
7. Reasons to do a horror
film opening:
• The storylines can be very interesting.
• Scaring the audience means you’ve achieved
your goal.
• Fairly easy to do a horror – conventions are
easily recognisable.
• Use of different equipment i.e. hand held
cameras or weapons to make it look realistic.
• Huge variety of different ideas to base the
storyline on.
8. Idea 1
• Serial killer in a small town.
• He seeks revenge on those who have done wrong for the town.
• He wears a special outfit and has a voice modifier in order to hide
his identity.
• He breaks into the victim’s houses using a advanced piece of
equipment.
• Scene with a woman who slept with her sister’s husband – was on
the news.
• He goes to her house when she’s sleeping and breaks in.
• He hurts his victims all the same way – cuts their throats with a
knife and writes on the wall with her blood – ‘You have failed my
town’.
• Police try to capture him but he keeps killing.
9. Idea 2
• Mental patient escapes from a mental institution and starts to go
crazy. He goes to his ex wife’s house and begins to sing a lullaby as
she’s sleeping. He rocks back and forth on the rocking chair and
continues to sing the song – ‘1,2 he’s coming for you. 3,4 you better
lock the door’.
• Kills his ex wife and then goes on a rampage.
• He starts making science experiments that kill the victim slowly so
they can feel the pain. He vandalises people’s water systems and
puts the liquid that he’s created in the system and kills his victims.
• He makes a variety of different things – liquids, poison, bombs etc
• He gets executed but before he dies he says ‘the mall will be
bombed soon. You have one hour to stop it. Good luck’ and laughs
as they start to panic an execute him.
11. Reasons to do a action
film opening:
• It goes at a fast pace which makes the overall
appearance of the film more gripping.
• It’s an interesting genre to do because there are
different types of actions i.e. shooting scene, foot
chase or car chase.
• Can be quite intense and therefore attracts the
audience.
• Makes them want to know what happens in the
end i.e. see if the baddie gets his karma.
• Potential storylines could make for a good
opening performance.
12. Idea 1
•
•
•
•
•

•
•
foot chase between the police and a woman. Woman is a secret detective.
Bullets are fired at her as she’s trying to get away. She fires some back while
trying to get away.
They run into a tunnel and the lights go off.
The lights come back on and the police are still giving chase but the woman
has gone.
She’s later found to be part of a drug scandal and becomes most wanted.
People are after her in order to find the the drugs and arrest her. She kills a
few people and is captured by a baddie who tortures her into telling him. They
then leave her there with a bodyguard while they go to the location. She beats
up the bodyguard and sets off t the location.
She gets there as they’re loading up the drugs and takes a few for herself. She
puts them in her car and then rings the police.
She tells them that the drugs are there and they come and arrest the people
there.
She drives off as she looks at the baddie who stares at her driving into the
distance.
13. Idea 2
• Wife is kidnapped from their house. The husband receives a letter from
the kidnapper when he gets home to see his wife gone.
• The letter reads ‘let’s play a special game. Follow my instructions and your
wife won’t be hurt. Every time you fail, we hurt her. She’s depending on
you, don’t mess this up’.
• Husband panics and calls police and they try to investigate but can’t do
anything to help.
• He decides to find her himself after the kidnapper gives him a cue on
where to start ‘People never die. They are only ever buried alive’. He
heads to the crem where a man is waiting to shoot him. The husband
instead kills them and starts to get angry.
• He investigates who the guy was and gets an insight.
• Fight scene – he gets some info from his friend about a closed and
abandoned warehouse. He goes in and bullets are fired. The kidnapper
and his gang flee and he gives chase.
• Gang are killed and wife is returned, battered and bruised.
