The term cyberspace is most commonly used to represent social space
available for the public through information and communication
technologies. It was first used by William Gibson in 1984 in his novel
‘Neuromancer’. The main character of the book was able to connect to
network computers and enter an alternative social universe in order to
move around software.
Over the years it has become clear that cyberspace, although brings almost
unlimited technological possibilities to humans, may be dangerous and
therefore should be approached with caution.
The dangers of cyberspace are most obvious to adults when they begin to
observe children interacting with it. In cyberspace kids expose themselves
to information unsuitable for their age and to contacts with criminals and
other dangerous people. Their gullibility makes them an easy target for all
sorts of threats.

The word ‘fool’ describes a person whose actions are unwise or simply
stupid. We can say that the things such a person does are foolish.
Something unwise, stupid or not sensible can also be called ‘folly’. We can
say, for example, that it’s a folly to spend all our money at a casino, or that
it’s a folly to drive a car on the wrong side of the road.
The word ‘folly’ has a quite remarkable origin.
In the 18th
century it was a habit among rich land owners in Britain to build
beautiful, yet unnecessary, buildings to decorate their lands. They often
resembled old Greek temples, towers or monuments. These useless
constructions, which were made merely to decorate the landscape and had
no other use, were called ‘follies’.
