and is the one phrase that will draw

phrase appeals to the target
audience as its what they can relate
to. Especially as they refer to a boy
band this is a perfect selling point for
the magazine.
Datelines
The dateline here is written quite small to
make it short and snappy and not look very
long which is quite different to what other
magazines do. It’s to inform any consumers
what the issue date is of the magazine that
they are purchasing i.e. if it’s old or if it’s
new.

girly which show that this fits in with
the target audience that this
magazine is aimed at.
Footer
This is where the additional information goes and where
the least important information goes that is just added as
extras to make the magazine look good.
Price/Barcode
It also has the cost of the magazine next to the barcode which tells the customer how much the
magazine will cost to purchase and it’s very important to have the price on the magazines. There
is also a barcode which is the unique code of the magazine. All of these are placed near the
bottom and are placed here as it is typical for the barcode to be placed somewhere at the bottom
with the issue date and price next to it.

Double Page Spread
Background colour
The background colour of
this double page spread is
dark pink combined with
red which are the colours
you would expect to see in
this type of magazine with
a young target audience as
these colours symbolise
love and romance which is
what young teenage girls
want with boys from this
type of boy band.
Main Image
The main image of this double page spread is an A4 picture of the boy band ‘One Direction’ as it tilted in the
middle across both pages. The image is very clear and has the theme of Autumn/Winter going on as they are all
wrapped up in layers and hats. For anyone who is not familiar with the boy band to help them it has the names
of them all by them in the image which is very useful. The names where written have a pink background behind
them which shows that they are using the most popular colour of there target market which they know will
appeal to the target audience the most. Also as the image is very big this drags all the attention on them and the
consumer reading this will not get bored or distracted.
6. Three elements that connect the 3 different parts
of the magazine are the date, as on every page
the date if there from where it was written or
published. The style of writing also how they
make some parts of it very big so it stands out
from the rest e.g. headings and drop cap. The
colour scheme also as they are quite laid back but
still grab your attention are out there.
7. Background of Top of the Pops
Top of the Pops is a monthly publication published
by Immediate Magazine Company. It features
information about the music charts. It is a
supplementary magazine for the TV show ‘Top of the
Pops’ which has closed down in 2006. The magazine
was launched in February 1995 and it is mainly famous
for giving girl group ’The Spice Girls’ their nicknames. It
was created as it was originally marketed as the missing
gap link between Smash Hits and NME. It’s format
gradually changed from targeting the music industry
and shifted to mainly focus on young girls.
8. House Style
House Style in another word for consistency and this
magazine shows a lot of consistency. It has kept the
colour scheme from the front on the magazine to the end
the same using the colours: pink, purple, white and red as
these are the colours which apply to the target audience
the most. It also kept the genre of music the celebrities
on the front cover the same through out the magazine
which is pop and all the artists that are on the magazine
and are in the magazine throughout are based around
this genre. The size of the front for the text has also
stayed the same for the main and most detailed bits of
information in this magazine.
