5. PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION – I BELIEVE…
• All high school students have the ability to learn when
given the opportunity and environment to facilitate
learning.
• Students should take responsibility for their academic
careers. (If you do not care about the work you turn in,
why should I worry about your grade?)
• Even students who are not confident in their abilities can
obtain excellent grades as long as they take advantage of
the support offered by the teacher.
6. ATTENDANCE AND TARDY POLICY
• Regular attendance and punctuality is a must! Students
who have been absent should obtain an absentee slip
from the office on their next day present.
• Students MUST BE PRESENT at the sound of the late
bell. There will be a 5 minute grace period, after which the
student will have to comply to the discipline plan.
Students over 15 minutes late will be put on a cut slip and
sent to the office if they do not bring a pass.
7. DISCIPLINE PLAN
• 1st Offense: 2 Page Art History Essay
• 2nd Offense: 5 Page Art History Essay
• 3rd Offense: 7 page Art History Essay and Parent Contact
• 4th Offense: Office Referral
• Grades will be on hold until essays are returned.
• Student may receive more pages depending upon the
offense.
8. GRADING SCALE
Grading Scale:
A 90-100
B 80-89
C 70-79
D 60-69
F Below 60
Homework (10%) and Quizzes (30%) will count as 40% of your overall
grade.
Projects (30%) and Tests (30%) will count as 60% of your overall grade.
9. GRADING RUBRIC
You will be graded based on your ability to grasp the concepts,
follow directions, and overall craftsmanship. I am aware not
everyone has the ability to draw or paint well, but everyone has
the ability to try. If you make an effort and ask for help when you
struggle you will do well.
4- Directions followed, full concept understood, craftsmanship is
excellent.
3- Directions followed, basic concept understood, decent
craftsmanship.
2- Directions partly followed, concept understanding developing,
craftsmanship could improve.
1- Directions not followed, lack of understanding in concept, poor
craftsmanship.
Points will be added or deducted based on which rating (1-4) you
get in each category.

11. MAKE-UP WORK POLICY
• It is your responsibility to collect your make-up work right after
you’ve missed a class. Unless other arrangements have been
made, all make-up work (INCLUDING TESTS) must be completed
and turned in within one week of the absence.
• When you’ve missed a day of class, the assignment that was due
the day you were absent is automatically due the day you return to
class!
• If you’ve known about an assignment or due date ahead of time,
being absent the day BEFORE the due date does not give you extra
time to turn it in.
• If you are absent for a school-excused reason (i.e., field trips,
sports), it is still your responsibility to collect the work ahead of
time and turn it in on the correct due date.
12. LATE WORK POLICY
It is important that you complete all of your work by
the day it is due. Exceptions to this will be made only if
the student talks with me privately and this is not a habit.
All late assignments are subject to points being deducted
at the teacher’s discretion, depending on the type of
assignment.
13. ELECTRONICS POLICY
Per school policy, electronic devices are generally
not permitted in class and will be confiscated. This
includes cell phones, iPods and MP3 players, laptops
,and cameras. Exceptions can be made only by the
consent of the teacher.
14. BASIC CLASSROOM RULES
• Leaving during class is generally not permitted. Take care of
locker visits, restroom and drink needs, etc. between classes.
• If you need to go to the restroom, inform me and I will call the
office to have you escorted.
• BE RESPECTFUL! I expect you to respect your classmates as
well as my classroom and me.
• Absolutely NO food or drinks in the classroom! (Ever drink
paint water on accident? I have, hence the rule.)
• Students need to be prepared to learn every day. This includes
having all required materials ready, and having homework and
projects completed.
16. WHO AM I?
I am Shelby Lane, a 2011 graduate of Mendenhall High
School, 2013 graduate of Copiah Lincoln Community
College, and 2015 graduate of the University of Southern
Mississippi. I have an Associate’s in Fine Arts and a
Bachelor’s in Interdisciplinary Studies (concentrations on
fine arts and computer science). I enjoy all forms of art
and hope to help you all find an appreciation for the arts. I
hope you enjoy all of the projects we will do, and
hopefully you won’t find my art history jokes too corny!
