Cardozo Middle School
2016-2017 School Year
7th Grade Social Studies
Cary Collins/ Teacher
Welcome To Jackson
Public School District
• Educational philosophy is to instill cultural
values and modeling them in students.
• My philosophy also includes influencing
students academically, socially and morally.
• I need to teach children what I have learned
throughout my school years and influence
obtaining a College
• Education is one of the best achievements.
• My educational philosophy is making sure that
students are eager to learn and are well
prepared for instruction.
•
• In my classroom, I consistently incorporate
different types of instructional techniques to
meet the needs of diverse learners.
• The value within educational philosophy will
always be to promote and produce good
character in students, as well as for them to
always learn regardless of the challenges ahead.
My Philosophy of Education
• Welcome students to your classroom.
• This course is designed to enrich students’
knowledge of History (social studies). The
curriculum used provides content necessary to
build a basic foundation in the subject.
• In addition to the goals, you are required to
use critical thinking, creativity, practice and
imagination to learn the content.
• History learning requires commitment on your
part.
• Organization and a positive attitude are also
very helpful.
Welcome Students!
Rules
• Enter class on time and prepared to work.
• Be in your assigned seat before the tardy bell rings.
• Bring all required materials to class.
• Follow directions the first time they are given.
• Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
• Do not bring cell phones or other electronic devices not
by the students’ JPS handbook.
Consequences
• Warning, teacher conference!
• Parent Contact!
• Teacher detention!
• Referral to principal!
Classroom Rules and Consequences
• Students are required to attend class at
their scheduled time.
• Cutting class will result in referral to the
administrator.
• Time on task, which includes being
present, is essential for making good
grades.
Attendance Policy
• Students are to enter the classroom
quietly and in dress code.
• Go directly to your desk and take
out your materials.
• Take out homework and turn it in.
• Sit quietly, review notes, and be
prepared for instruction to begin.
• Once the teacher begins lecturing,
pay close attention and take notes.
The Start of Class
• It is the students responsibility to ask
for makeup work upon returning
from absences.
• Excused absences, tardies, or
dismissals will be allowed to earn
100% credit if work is completed
within five days.
• Make-up tests will be given before
school, between 7:00-8:00 am unless
instructed otherwise.
• If you should have questions about
the make-up work, wait until the end
of class to ask.
Makeup Policy
In order to asses students understanding of units taught, students will be given
weekly quizzes, chapter/objective tests, classwork, homework and projects.
Rubrics will be used in the grading of assigned projects.
Grading Rubric
• 100-90 A Excellent
• 89-80 B Above Average
• 79-70 C Average
• 69-60 D Below Average
• 59-0 F Failing
The final grade will be determined by averaging the four term grades.
Course Evaluation Policy
• Homework will be assigned
daily.
• Homework is due at the
beginning of each class.
• Homework must be placed in
the daily assignment basket.
• Homework will be 30% of
your final grade.
Homework
• There is absolutely no talking
during exams.
• If you need anything from the
teacher, simply raise your hand
and wait to be addressed.
• If your eyes are wandering, the
teacher will assume you are
cheating and you will receive a
zero.
• You are to remain quiet until all
exams are completed.
• Quizzes will be administered by
the instructor and at the
instructor’s discretion.
Test/Quiz Expectations
• I strictly enforced JPS Dress Code
Policy.
• Students must only wear uniform
colors as required by the students’
policy, unless school/teacher notify
otherwise.
• Shirts must be tucked in and pants
pulled to the waist.
• Female skirts must be to the knee or
below, not higher.
• Males CANNOT wear earrings or
oversized jewelry.
Dress Code
• Please do not hesitate to ask
questions?
• I welcome all questions pertaining to
content.
• If you have questions please raise your
hand and wait to be acknowledge?
• Do not ask questions or speak out of
turn.
• I demand that the utmost attention be
given to instruction from me and to
directions that may be associated to
the assignment.
Asking Questions
• If we need to leave the classroom for
any reason, I will dismiss you by
columns.
• As you leave the classroom, you are to
line up along the wall outside the
classroom.
• When everyone is lined up and silent,
we will begin walking where we need to
go.
• Do not talk, play, or get out of line!
Behavior in the Hallways
• My restroom policy is VERY strictly
enforced.
• Students are expected to use the
restroom before classes start,
between change of classes, or
during lunch.
• DO NOT interrupt instruction to go
the restroom!
• If you have a medical condition,
bring a medical note?
Restroom Policy
• I am FAITHFUL!
• I wonder when will The Lord come back for his
people.
• I hear brilliance when I speak!
• I see a strong man in the mirror!
• I want to accomplish my current goals.
• I am worthy of receiving BLESSINGS from my
Heavenly Father.
• I pretend all is well around my students during bad
moments.
• I feel it when I hurt too, but it will not let it get the
best of me.
“I AM… ”
• I touch lives of students in a positive way.
• I worry too; however, I always remember to let
The Lord handle my worries.
• I cry tears of joy sometimes.
• I am working hard on my life’s goals for my
family and I.
• I understand that sometimes The Heavenly
Father wants us to take paths different than
our own.
• I say positive and truthful things to help
people.
• I dream, pray, then go for it!
